Falling For The Fun-Guy

Rate this book
A spicy romantic comedy full of fungi, feelings, and one very problematic cat.

Marissa Glade loves a lot of things in her

Her cat, Will Furrell, Commissioner of Chaos, Esq (she has the adoption certificate to prove it). Her sister, Juneybee, a.k.a. her ride-or-die. Her job as a lawyer (especially making opposing witnesses squirm). And her apartment, because nothing beats that city view.

Things she absolutely does not love?

Her chronic illness. Training for a marathon she regrets signing up for. And Mason freaking Shaw. He’s hot. He’s smug. He’s made her cry—twice.
He calls her “princess” but not in any of the ways that the best book boyfriends do!. He told her to quit training for her race. He photographs mushrooms and slime mold like it’s high art.

But the universe keeps shoving him in her face—and annoyingly, he starts to grow on her. Like mold. Sexy, infuriating mold.

Falling for the Fun-Guy is a slow-burn, laugh-out-loud romcom about stubborn independence, found family, chronic illness, and learning to let someone in—even if they do smell like your favorite memories.

Messy. Spicy. Heartfelt. Weird.
Just like life.

Since I know the author, you already know it’s going to be 5 stars from me! The attention to detail in this is adorable… letters, menus, chapter headers that flip like a little movie, so friggin’ cute! Loved seeing chronic pain and autoimmune struggles represented, and the intense emotions that come with them. You’ve got mushrooms, a group of hotties, super-spice, a cat causing chaos, and something between enemies-to-lovers and insta-love. Basically, a fun time with the Fun Guy! 🍄❤️‍🔥

This is one of my favourite books that B. Mackenzie has written!

B.Mackenzie has come flying out of the gate with this super cute rom-com filled with banter, passion and showing how chronic illness can impact someone.

And, funnily enough the cat somehow becomes a main character, stealing the hearts of readers every time.

Mason, the grumpy IT guy who made me want to smack and hug at the same time, and Marissa, the strong lawyer with a chronic illness who I wanted to wrap in a blanket and protect… and that cat. 😂

“Not everyone is cut out for a life of watching that.”
“I love her”
Ughhhhhh 😭😭😭

There are so many amazing gems in this book that I highly HIGHLY recommend you grab if you want to feel all the feels.
P.S. the insurance investigation at the end was just amazing along with more notes from that troublemaking cat 😂😂

ARC READ: B. Has become one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style and how you get to really picture everything without it being too much.
This book is so freaking cute. Will Furrell 😂 🐈 is so awesome. I love Marissa, she really is a sweetheart and a strong FC which is something I’m noticing in B’s books, these strong FC’s but also able to be vulnerable. And Mason…. I loved, strong, grumpy/turned sweet, caring, dominant, with a filthy mouth 🤭 and I was all for it, dude was the whole package. And loved his friends and how supportive they are of each other and the banter between them all. And the spice in this was 🥵 again the perfect amount. I literally just loved everything about this book.

Marissa is a no-nonsense lawyer, struggling with a crazy cat, a marathon she definitely shouldn't have signed up for, and a chronic illness. Everything gets a little bit harder when she crosses paths with Mason and he's an absolute jerk to her. She keeps crossing paths with him and his friend group until her apartment burns down and they become unlikely roommates.

I really wanted to love this one. Canadian authors are always a first-grab for me, and I adore hyping up their work. Unfortunately I just couldn't connect with the writing style of this author. The amount of detail included really bogged down the story. We had extensive information about what people are wearing, step-by-step of basic tasks, and so much minute detail that had no impact on the story whatsoever that I just couldn't understand why it was included. At one point an image of an entire detailed menu is included in the middle of a scene where they sit to eat dinner at an event. I absolutely appreciate the focus and dedication the author put into making the menu, however it seemed like an odd use of time for something that didn't have an impact on anything, and wasn't referenced again in the story.

I also couldn't fit the characters into their careers. She was a lawyer that almost never showed up to her job. He was a tech genius of a massive company he owned, and he rarely worked or left the house, he just went into his home office to code sometimes. Then we have conflicts of his previous work and an ex which fade from being resolved. As well as between her and a judge who always ruled against her, but we never see her in court on page again. It made it feel as though the author had multiple directions they wanted to take the book and dropped them as they changed direction, without ever really going back and tying them off. It also felt odd to make multiple male characters show their interest in female leads by being horrendously cruel to them. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the "men are mean out of attraction" trope.

Once the leads became intimate the plot really took a back seat to constant hookup scenes. Although they were written well and were genuinely great, the story did really just fall into mainly those scenes in the second half. From there the third act breakup was constantly looming, and I was kind of surprised that it was resolved immediately with a time jump, and then another huge time jump into the future before the book abruptly ends.

Overall this book was interesting and if you focus mainly on the romance and not the excessive details and background plot, it's pretty adorable. It just wasn't for me.

I loved loved loved this story of Marissa and Mason!Their chemistry was great and Will Furell's constant fluffy chaos made this a great rom com. Also the spicy scenes were very sexy and 🔥 🔥 🔥. There were a few inconsistencies in the story, specifically a broken cell phone and then 2 pages later while still in the location of breaking the cell he was talking on his cell. But I still really enjoyed the book.

4.5 star rating, thanks to Epic Book Pr and B. Mckenzie for an advanced copy for my honest review.

Will Furrell is the star of the show! Thank God for the hellion cat and his comedic relief when things got super terse between Marissa and Mason. And ultimately, it was Will Furrell who brought them back to each other after six weeks!

Warning!⚠️ If you're not a fan of the third-act break up, don't read this! Marissa honestly has to work through her chronic illness and the impact it has on her life before she and Mason can officially become a real couple. I hate HATE DOUBLE HATE!😡 that the author had to include the break-up scene, but at the same time it makes so much sense with Marissa's character flaw. It's not hidden; you can see it coming from the very start of their "situationship", but that doesn't make it hurt any less!😭

Mason is the book boyfriend we ALL want! The attention to details! The perseverance! The attitude! The "Daddy Mason" vibes in the bedroom!🥵 Can I just clone him a few times and distrbute his copies to the entire BookTok community?

This is the kind of book that gets traditional publishing deals! I'm super grateful to Epica Book PR and B. Mackenzie for the chance to read it! The story, the characters, the writing, the plot, the comedic relief... It's all there, and I will most definitely read anything else this author releases!🥰

Falling for the Fun Guy was an unexpected joy! I found this book on bookstagram and was intrigued. I knew I had to get my hands on it! Marissa is a lawyer dealing with an autoimmune disease. But her disease is not her identity; she is determined to run a marathon. What she did not plan on was Mason, who she bumps into and keeps bumping into and not on good terms. Mason is a computer coder who helps build firewalls for companies all over the world. When Mason meets Marissa for the first time, he is taken by surprise and therefore doesn't put his best foot forward. Rather he seems to keep putting his foot in his mouth. This doesn't stop him from reaching out and his friends becoming friends with her and her sister, June. I loved this book so so much! First, I must mention Will Furrell! This cat is a hellion, but an absolute gem. After all, he helped build and rebuild their relationship. Second, Marissa and Mason had amazing chemistry and banter from the beginning! I laughed and giggled, and kicked my feet in joy over them. And when the spice hit, it was so worth it.. AND incredibly HOT 🔥 🥵 🌶. Let's just say, Mason has a way with words! Third, I loved Marissa's and Mason's individual journeys of self-discovery. They became better because they knew each other. Lastly, June, Issac, Carter, Kai, and Eli were amazing side characters. They had some great one liners and they also were so incredibly caring and supportive of their friends. I really want them to have a happily ever after.

I liked it. It was definitely a 3am sign up because I thought the punny title was funny. I just felt like it was all very surface level. The relationship between Marissa and Mason didn't feel deep to me. They didn’t really talk about things…or date…she moved in and then had a chronic illness flare up…and then Mason decides he loves her right after they did it for the first time, at the end of her flare up. Her cat was the highlight of the book lol But all this is SUBJECT TO ME AND HOW IT READ TO ME

This was such a fun read. Mason is A grumpy turned sweet, caring, filthy mouthed guy that can never say the right thing around his obsession--Marissa. Marissa is a brilliant, sweet woman who caught the attention of Mason. I loved everything about this book, from the banter between Mason and his friends & Mason and Marissa, to how they have their own little family together, the attention to details, the storylines, Mason’s internal dialogue (mental notes), sexy scenes, everything! And you can’t forget the famous Will Furrell, he was such an amazing character added. But be warned, the heartbreak is heart shattering!!! I almost cried, unlike in Little Villain where I balled my eyes out. But I can’t wait for Kai’s story!!! Trouble!

1 ⭐️ Star

Marissa seems to have a lot going on in her life: signing up for a marathon, being a civil suits lawyer, a chronic illness, a troublesome and chaotic cat... and a man who just won't give up his pursuit of her after she feigns disinterest.

Think Ross and Rachel vibes without the on again and off again for years on end.

Maybe I'm being too critical, but as someone who has worked in the Canadian Justice system, Marissa being a lawyer and never showing up to work yet has gotten so far in her career seems unrealistic. She's not Michael Ross, which is also unrealistic. I have seen time and time again how women in that field had to work ten times harder and many become quite stone cold. The character qualities of Marissa didn't fit her job title. Marissa, her firm, and another firm also seem to break lawyer ethics and and codes which could disbar them.

Mason is... he's there. He owns a tech company and seems to know front end and backend computing like the back of his hand which seems unrealistic, normally someone only fully understands one or the other. He also never seems to show up to work and hates working with people.

I found it so difficult to get into the story and just enjoy it because the devil is in the details and there were so many unnecessary details and the ones that I wanted just weren't there. The amount of unresolved issues and plot holes along with lack of research really bothered me and took me out of the story too often for me to enjoy the story.

I truly do not care if the table cloths at some event were embroidered but I would like to know how her home is her dream home but somehow Mason's home is also her dream home and how Marissa would want to be with someone who cannot take no for an answer (this isn't cute, it's a form of coercion).

This wasn't for me, personally. I wanted to enjoy it because the author is incredibly sweet and I want to support local creators but the writing style and storytelling didn't make me want to dive into the story.

3.5/5 ⭐️ eARC REVIEW ⭐️

First of all I would like to thank B. Mackenzie for this exciting eARC, it is truly an incredible honor to be able to review this book!!

Now for those of you who thought you were getting into a nice innocent book with a cute enemies to lovers story, fooled by what seemed like an innocuous nerdy mushroom man…. OH BOY ARE YOU IN FOR A SURPRISE. The spice level is high, the room is steamy, the pot is boiling, and man does it get descriptive. If you are someone who is very into hearing the naughty details and don’t mind a little slow burn (yes it does require a little patience ladies) this is honestly the perfect brain candy for you. I unfortunately did not particularly enjoy that part, I do consider myself more of the innocent type who prefers to lean more into the romantic side rather than the spicy side, I’ve come to learn that the hard way…which is why I deducted some rating points. Now this is my first B. Mackenzie book, so I haven’t never been exposed to her writing style but I must say, it certainly has me intrigued and wanting to read more of her books.

So what else is in the book?
- The Star of the Show: Will Furrell and we can’t forget about the last few pages that recount the events preceding his menacing activities.

- No toxic-jealous mates: honestly the dynamic between all of the characters seemed too good to be true, but honestly it was nice to see the author steering clear of the cliche “best friend” known to wreak havoc in the mcs relationship.

- Established careers: everyone really seems to have their lives under control, and it gave me motivation to continue studying for my licensing exam!

- Major sexual tension and possessive behavior: not much more to add to that one, you either like it or you don’t, and if you do you’re in the right place

All in all, this was a great read to take me out of my reading slump. I’ve been scared to read books outside of the romantasy genre, because I’ve been sucked in deep.. but this book gave me hope!

Holy mushrooms, this book wrecked me in the best way. I could’ve inhaled it in one sitting. It was funny, spicy, and then suddenly I’m crying in my bed like Netflix just canceled my favorite show mid-cliffhanger. (cough cough Last Man on Earth).

First, you know if there's a cat I'm most likely sold. WELL, Will Furrell, Commissioner of Chaos, Esq. deserves his own spin-off series. Every chapter opened with his little cat doodle and honestly that alone had me feral. Usually, I want morally gray men with mugshots, but a cat with one is way superior. Literary art.

Mason… listen. Mushroom boy was fiiiiinnneee. I legitimately read every spicy scene and that is so rare for me and romance books. Did his “book boyfriend” talk match his “emotionally repressed slime mold photographer” vibe? Not always. Did I care? Absolutely not.

Marissa was everything. A badass lawyer with chronic illness that was written so raw and inspiring I cried for her like she was my actual best friend. She’s stubborn, she’s strong, she’s messy in all the best ways. I’d follow her into any courtroom, mushroom field, or marathon. (Actually scratch that, I would wait for her at the end with cake).

The only thing that had me side-eyeing was the nonstop song drops and references. I kept wondering why they were so relevant and still don't know. Would love to listen to the playlist because a lot of the song drops were unknown to me. Regardless of that, I did not want to put this book down.

I loved it. I need more. More chaos cat crimes. More of June’s love story. More of these ding dongs being messy and heartfelt. B. Mackenzie, please keep feeding us and I'll keep eating.

So to be completely honest I wasn’t sure what I would be reading based on the title I thought maybe it was some new odd paranormal shifter thing the author was trying but with fungi.

Hilariously it is so much better than I thought it was going to be. It is a 100% non paranormal rom com with tons of spice.

This starts out on a real fun note, the guy is being a prick for no reason, but his friends make it hilarious and tease him relentlessly and I love it. Marissa is a sweet lawyer who definitely does not deserve Mason’s ire, I swear the hilarity of everything is to much.

She was stubborn with blinders for a lot of the book, without Will along with Mason and his friends this book would not have been as entertaining nor as enjoyable as it was. They really brought it all together.

I also found the last chapter a very quick wrap up.

I know everyone deals with illness, especially chronic or debilitating illnesses differently, but not even her sister called her on her foolishness, She refuses to open up to anyone, and should probably be seeing a therapist to help her deal with the her issues. - unfortunately as a child who suffered from chronic illnesses and pain to now an adult with all that and more I could not find it in myself to relate to her in the end, especially when it didn’t seem Marissa’s character grew or evolved.

We never find out what happens with Jane and Eli, kinda got left in the lurch with that one. crossing my fingers that they will be book 2?!?

Key points in no particular order:
- grumpy vs. Sunshine
- degrading commentary at first
- second chances
- enimies to lovers
- hilarious banter
- Arthritis Chronic illness and chronic Pain
- Praise K - ink
- Spicy 5/5

Falling For The Fun Guy is such a funny, cute and entertaining romcom. I had a blast reading this one. Right from the start I knew the banter between Marissa & Mason was gonna be top tier, yes he was an a** in the beginning, trust the process. Will Furrell is the absolute best thing in this book, the true MVP, that cat is damn hilarious and I loved how the author incorporated him, it made all the harder topics balance out with the humour. B truly has a fantastic attention to detail, from her chapter headings, to the detailing of the scenes, the internal dialogues, the entirety of it just made for a great reading experience.

Mason is just to die for, I was swooning hard for him when he finally let his guard down. Marissa is a strong and resilient FMC and I absolutely adore her. I loved how all the characters are all career driven and have great jobs. The friend group was absolutely amazing, I loved their relationship and how close they all were. I really enjoyed how their relationship grew and progressed, but that third act breakup really destroyed me. I did like how the author gave us a glimpse a few years after and how they chose to deal with that situation.

Overall, this was a really fun read even with the harder topics at hand. I thought the author did a fantastic job at balancing it all. I really enjoyed B’s writing and I am excited to see what she puts out next !

I signed up for this ARC solely based on the title and let me tell you I did not expect to like it as much as I did!

Let’s be honest here, this book is about Marissa and Mason, but the real star of the book is Will Ferrell and it’s not even close. I love the chaos cat energy and it really did steal the whole show.

I liked both Marissa and Mason as characters. I totally get Marissa’s hangups with her illness and her decision making because of it. Mason was also hilarious and completely dumbstruck by Marissa, which made for some interesting inner monologues on his end. It was fun to watch these to come together throughout the book, and it was really unexpectedly dirty in a good way.

It did get a little much with the songs constantly being inserted into the book, I would have much preferred a Spotify list at the beginning or having the song at the beginning of the chapters. And I definitely could have done without the third act breakup - but the resolution after made it hilariously worthwhile.

I am absolutely hoping this turns into a series and we see the rest of the guys get a HEA.

Thank you to Epic Book PR, B. Mackenzie and BookFunnel for an advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved this one so much! I know B. through her mafia/why choose series that I loved and man, she killed it with the humor on this one! FMC Marissa is a lawyer, marathon runner in training, cat mom to Will Furrell, living with a chronic illness. MMC Mason is a nerdy tech dude, who falls so hard he turns into "twat" dude when he first meets Marissa. After he changes her opinion of him - by showing up for our girl - they become roommates due to unfortunate circumstances at Marissa's apartment (maybe Will Furrell is responsible... lol). I love B.'s attention to detail - I normally don't - but she does such a great job of using it to advance the story and making us invested in not just our MMC's but the characters surrounding them. There's lots of LOL, giggle moments - but there's alot of heart in this book too, as Marissa navigates the effects of her disease and we see Mason show up for her again and again. I generally don't like the 3rd act break up - but the reunion was hilarious and on brand for the entire story. There's def more characters that need their stories told and I'll be WAITING for more in this series with bated breath! Thanks EpicaPR and B. Mackenzie for a chance to ARC read this book!

Okay, can we just take a moment for the way Marissa loathed Mason from the beginning until he showed her his trues feelings thanks to his friends to let him in that not all women are the same and will do the same shady things that others did.

Mason takes her in no questions asked after a fire takes her home and she is not sure how to feel about this, the dancing around they do between the weeks getting to know each other was great also.

My heart did hurt for Marissa and her chronic illness and the way she kept pushing mason away because she doesn’t want him to have to go through what her mother and sister did with bringing them down. But mason was ready to show up and do whatever was necessary for Marissa but that was still not enough and she still pushed him away after everything he did for her and the show of caring when he didn’t need to.

But leave it up to freaking will furrelll to finally bring them back together and let mason have his voice of reason that Marissa made the decision for them both and it finally clicked with them. My heart was so happy at the end.

But on another note can we just say all the shady feral things that will did. I was dying with this Cat. But what he did in the end to bring them together made my heart happy.

Will Furrell - the man of the hour and I mean without him, the book would have felt so lonely! 😫🤣

As I started reading this book, it instantly clicked, it matched with my energy. I love the tropes for this one!! The book is well-written and the smooth transition between chapters is easy to follow.

And Oh My God! The characters— they are just perfect! The vibes are light and playful and underneath it all something heavy is growing. You know like there's many sides to one person but it takes that one special someone to bring it out, that did it for me and the spiciness *whistles* 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5

The banter between the characters, easygoing energy and THE GUY'S GROUP 😫 perfect friendship doesn't exi- Yeah, that! I have to say the book has a lot of details, which for me was comforting.

He is a guy who loves clicking pictures of mushrooms and she is a lawyer. Like I said something's growing and to find out what you have to dive into the story.

My favourite tropes from this book are he falls first & hard, found family, grumpy x sunshine, there's one more but where's the fun in that if I just told you.

Special shoutout to June- the best and the most understanding one 🌸 I can't wait to read your book!

“You are mine. Look at the way your body listens to me. You don’t even have to think.”

This is the first book I have read by B. Mackenzie and I absolutely loved it!!!

Marrisa is a lawyer living with chronic illness, but she doesn't let that get her down. She signs up to run a marathon with her sister, and now her sister is off in another country, and she is on her own and homeless since her cat "Will" burned down her apartment.

Mason is an IT genius and owns his own company. Since the first time meeting Marissa, he has had a thing for her, but he can stop acting like a juerk. Now, he has the opportunity to help her out and get her to see him differently.

The banter between these two was so good. OMG, I loved Mason and his dirty mouth it was chefs' kiss. This book talks about chronic illness and how Marrisa shuts herself off from everyone because she feels like a burden. I really loved how supportive Mason was even though he did not know what was going on. I loved them, and you will have to read to see if Marissa gives Mason a real shot or rums away like she normally does.

Thank you, B. Mackenzie, for this book, I absolutely loved it!!!!

This book gave me all the feels — and laughs. Our heroine isn’t just living with a chronic illness; she’s owning it, making sure it doesn’t run her life or define her. Major respect for that kind of realness. 💪

Oh, and can we talk about her cat, Will Furrell, Commissioner of Chaos Esq.? Absolute legend. Plus her sister Juneybee, totally reminded me of my own ride-or-die.

Then there’s Mason Shaw — our grumpy yet swoon-worthy male lead. Their meet-cute? Total hate-at-first-sight vibes… or so she thinks. Mason’s already head over heels but can’t seem to get out of his own way (foot-in-mouth alert 🚨).

Add a perfectly timed apartment fire, her need for a place to crash, and two pushy besties who aren’t taking no for an answer — and boom! Roommates are born. Cue the awkward, hilarious, slow-burn romance where these two have to get over themselves and maybe find their own happy ending. 🥰🔥

If you want a story packed with friendship, flirty banter, chaos, and a refreshingly real ending, this one’s a must-read.

Don’t be fooled by Falling for the Fun Guy’s cute illustrated cover, thinking the spice levels will be low. Mason has a dirty mouth. In fact, both Marissa and Mason get down and dirty, but that doesn’t happen until later in the story. I wouldn’t necessarily call Falling for the Fun Guy a slow-burning romance story. It read at times as if it were two different plot lines. The one that involves Marissa, the lawyer who lives with her chronic illness, her cat Will “Furrell”, and Mason, her nerdy, grumpy roommate—all the fun banter they have was good. And then boom Shakalaka, Marissa and Mason are gettin’ busy—like a lot. It does feel as though it happens like that, too. The steamy scenes were really good, and as nerdy as Mason was, the things he said and did were quite surprising. And I’m not mad at it. Falling for the Fun Guy was a fun read.

Falling for the Fun Guy by B. Mackenzie made me feel a lot of things while reading. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it...it had a bit of a bully romance vibe in the beginning, and I didn’t think that was for me. But Mason completely won me over. He transformed into such a spectacular MMC, and before long, I couldn’t get enough of him. I really enjoyed the slow burn and Will's insane cat antics.

That said, some parts felt a little too neat, and the ending seemed a bit rushed compared to the rest of the story. After the slow burn turned into some heated open door scenes...it seemed like they just kept doing it, and not much else was happening...then everything hit the fan and then it ended.

Still, I was gutted when things weren't going to plan, related to the FMC's struggles at times and I did love their HEA.

All in all, a great rom-com with a fun cat thrown in the mix for some chaos 😆

What worked for me:

The funny title.

B. Mackenzie came out strong with a sweet rom-com that mixes banter, passion, and a thoughtful look at how chronic illness impacts someone’s everyday life.

Mason, the grumpy IT guy, was equal parts frustrating and endearing (the type you want to smack and hug at the same time). Marissa, the strong lawyer battling a chronic illness, made me want to wrap her in a blanket and protect her.

The cat. Yes, the cat fully became a main character and stole the show every single time. 😂

The spice? Was spicing hahaha 🔥

What didn’t work for me:

The writing style wasn’t my favorite. There was just too much detail that bogged the story down like full outfit descriptions, step-by-step of simple tasks, even an entire dinner menu dropped into the middle of a scene. It didn’t add to the plot and pulled me out of the story.

The characters’ careers felt underdeveloped. Marissa is supposed to be a lawyer, but we rarely see her in court. Mason is described as a tech genius running a huge company, but we mostly just see him at home coding sometimes. Conflicts (like Mason’s past work and Marissa’s tension with a judge) were introduced and then faded without resolution.

The romance moved too quickly. There wasn’t much actual dating or deep conversation. She moved in, had a flare-up, and then right after their first time together Mason suddenly decides he loves her. It felt rushed and underdeveloped.

Overall:
I really wanted to love this more than I did. The setup, banter, and premise had so much potential, and the representation of chronic illness was well done. But the pacing, lack of depth in careers/conflicts, and overly detailed writing kept me from fully connecting.

That said, the cat was hands-down the highlight haha 🐾

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The book is funny, heartfelt, and full of moments that make you laugh, swoon, and even feel a little tug at your heart all at once. The writing flows so easily, and the pacing is spot on you never feel bored, and there’s always something keeping you hooked. The humor is clever and quirky, the romance is slow burning and satisfying, and the mix of lightheartedness with genuinely emotional moments makes it feel really real.

It’s the kind of book that sticks with you after you close it, the kind you keep thinking about because it’s so entertaining and well-written. Everything about it from the storytelling to the way the characters’ emotions are handled just hits in the right way. If you’re looking for something fun, charming, and a little addictive, this one’s a total win.

I want to give this book ALLLLL the stars!!

As a single woman living with a chronic disease, I related to Marissa on a DEEP emotional level!! This character was written PERFECTLY! From her thoughts surrounding getting into a relationship, to her trying to live as "normal" a life as possible, and the guilt she holds in her heart... SPOT ON!!

Mason, oh Mason! Again, the author blew it out of the park when she created this man. He's everything I'd want in a man (with less tattoos 😜).

And of course we can't forget the MAIN character, Will Furrell... what can I say without spoiling it for others... well, nothing, you'll just have to read it to see what I mean!

Oh and that epilogue killed me!! 🤣🤣🤣

This was such a cute book. I’ve been reading a lot of dark romances lately, and this was such a beautiful pallet cleanser. First off, the cover is adorable. Like really adorable. I loved the struggles the characters faced and enjoyed the side characters quite a bit. I wouldn’t mind reading more about some of the characters, and it almost feels like a story was being set up for June, but maybe that’s just me. The book was so cute and I love a good HEA. I thought the chronic illness was portrayed very well! In the authors note there was mention B. Mackenzie writes Mafia romances which are a weakness for me, so I’ll have to check her other books out.

"He smells like rainy days, like whoever made me and gave me my soul, made him and his just for me."

I think my favorite character was the star himself... Will Furrell. I always like to say cats are little masterminds, mad he proved that with all his hilarious and trouble making antics. Aside from his starring role, I adored this read. I really enjoyed that it had some representation for chronic illness, mental health, and even adoption. The banter between Marissa and Mason was charged and spicyyy. It may have started off with some assumptions about each other, but they always say... don't judge a book by its cover.

i loved this so much! the characters, the tension, the representation and the story made this a read that i truly devoured in a day! a perfect balance of spice and fluffy romance with some beautiful chronic illness representation. whilst i don’t have the same illness as marissa, i still saw parts of myself and my struggle in her story which made this even more enjoyable.
i only marked down because the ending felt a little rushed, but i don’t think it took away from the book at all, and i’ll still fully recommend it to everyone!
