Relic Meyers & The Harmony of Hexes

Rate this book
Relic Meyers thought sophomore year would be easier, but his band Altar Stone’s electrifying debut has sent shockwaves through Laramie—both literally and supernaturally. The performance has awakened hexes tied to Adratheon, a dark entity lurking in the town’s shadowy past, and now monstrous forces are surfacing from beyond.

As Relic struggles to balance band life, friendships, and the terrifying weight of these supernatural disturbances, he realizes that getting what you want isn’t always a blessing—it’s just the start of a new nightmare.

Meanwhile, Bree and Delilah delve into the resurgence of cult activity, uncovering eerie connections between the hexes and an ancient power that may decide Laramie’s fate.

Relic Meyers & The Harmony of Hexes cranks the volume up on the danger, the drama, and the heavy metal mayhem, making it a must-read for fans of supernatural horror and coming-of-age thrillers.

Hexes picks up pretty quickly after Rhythms ends and continues the story of Relic Meyers and his band of friends. It ups the stakes, and layers much more into the story, it’s quite the ramp from book 1.

Sadler continues to write fantasy horror that’s easy to read and accessible for most people who may not be familiar with the genre. It’s a solid continuation of the first book, dealing with the growing problems of being a teenager in a town that may just be out to kill you and your friends. We’re introduced to more layers, more villains and more baddies but in a way that doesn’t feel overwrought. The big baddie, what a fun and ridiculous (in a good way) character to read, and I’m assuming write.

There’s still a heavy nostalgic feeling in this series, from D&D to Rhapsody albums, it feels like part of the 90’s is back. That’s not to say that the nostalgia of the 90’s doesn’t come with its own problems. While handled carefully by Sadler, the rampant homophobia and speech of that era is wholly on display here, which for some may be triggering. You’ll find acceptance from his friends, but you’ll also find the ugly reality of what that time period sounded like.

If you enjoyed ‘Rhythm of Ruins’ you shouldn’t hesitate to jump right into hexes and continue the story. For fans of Stranger Things, Fear Street, Etc. The epilogue of this one felt a little too close to Stranger Things. This entry feels more adult for sure, while branded YA, it might be a bit much for younger audiences with its teenage romance and sexuality (also see trigger above).

I am so enjoying this series from Bradley, totally ran across the first one on accident and really loved it

So when I saw him posting about a second?
Done.

If you love horror, and real characters you get attached too, this is it.
I am so far beyond invested in Relic at this point, and its only been two books.

I love Relic and Bree, and I know, eww romance in my horror?

This isn't that, this was so well done, and absolutely fit into this story, it was needed, and I have to say I loved it. It made the characters all the more real, and had me on edge, fingers crossed we all got our of this alive.

Relic is dealing with the mess from Altars first real show, dating, and all the normal stuff that goes with being young, but add in the crazy hexes, dark history, and a town, whose past that maybe should have stayed just that, the past.

There is just something about these books that make me kick my feet a little, in giddy horror?
I used to feel like diving into another Three Investigators or Fear Street when I was younger, but this is a little more adult, and I am loving it.

You need to give this series a chance if you are big on horror, nostalgia, cult activity and solving fucked up mysteries that aren't always what they seem.

It's great to see the gang back together! This book opens with an update on our cast of characters from the previous instalment and Brady writes with such refreshing zeal that you can't help but rejoice in meeting them all again. The scares and action come thick and fast. They more intense than in the previous book - not that that's a negative of the first book - it's more because the author has built up this world and knows where he's going with the story. To be perfectly honest it wouldn't matter to me if there was even a horror element in this story. The author writes these characters so well that I'm in love with them all, particularly Relic and Bree's romance. It's extremely well written, identifiable and unique. What I was left with in reading this book is that I want ten more of these and what bigger feeling can you be left with than that. What Brady is doing here is something epic and new. Yes, it has a nostalgia factor of having vibes like Fear Street but it's its on thing. I loved it.

I was a really big fan of book number 1, so I was really hoping that Harmony of Hexes would meet my expectations, and I'm really happy to say that my expectations were exceeded. I loved this book! I couldn't put it down. It is a longer book, but the story moves so quickly that I really didn't notice.

The story picks up shortly after the first books ends, with the characters dealing with other worldly monsters on top of their normal high school lives. I really appreciated moments where we got to just spend the day in the lives of these kids. Between school, band practice, and family issues, it felt really organic and gave more weight to the terrifying parts of the book.

There was one moment in the beginning of the book that involved a kidnapping that really stood out of terrifying- that was the moment I was hooked! My other favorite moment was the Halloween party. I won't share more, but I loved everything about it.

The battles with the creatures were so fun! This book does feel more intense, as the creatures and the party's powers have all leveled up. There were times towards the end where I could vividly hear and feel what the different monsters were like, and I owe this all to Brady's writing.

I just love each of the characters, but Bree really stood out in this story. The growth and development that she went through felt genuine and relatable. Relic, as always, is just a standout kid. The rest of the characters are also really fun to get to know.

Overall, this is a great second entry into the Relic Meyers series. It feels very reminiscent of Stranger Things and Hysteria!, but with a lot more heavy metal and monsters.

Like the first Relic Meyers book, this is a great read for anyone that loves heavy metal, Dungeons & Dragons, the 80s/90s, monsters and high school romance. The characters from the first book get even more relatable while the intrigue goes up a few notches. If you haven’t checked out this writer yet, I strongly recommend trying this series. Can’t wait for the next installment!

It was a Blast(Beat)!

I enjoyed the story and the characters. This is a sequel so you may be a pretty lost if you haven't read the first book. There were some pretty creepy horror elements that can be jarring relative to the rest of the content. I would have preferred to not have the spicy teenager scenes, but that is probably just a personal preference.
