Caspian Warwick, the Marquess of Pembroke, has been enjoying life on Mangrove Island, hosting lavish parties on his yacht and getting a taste of the local female flavor. When his old friend and political advisor arrives to woo him back to public office in England, they hatch a plan to rehabilitate his image, starting with his scandalous love life.
Public relations guru Rebecca Laughlin has fled to Mangrove Island from New York after a disastrous affair with her womanizing boss. She's sworn off charmers and takes an instant dislike to Lord Warwick. In desperate need of money, however, she agrees to help him resurrect his defunct political career by finding him a suitable wife that the public will adore.
No one can deny the heat between them ~ the heated arguments and hot tempers, that is. Will they embrace their feelings for each other or will they let their past dictate their future?
Neve Cottrell is an author of contemporary romance novels. Long Way Home is the first book in her series about the residents of Mangrove Island. Neve began weaving tales as soon as she could talk, walking away with the coveted “Best Storyteller” award in preschool and she’s been writing ever since. When she’s not crafting sexy heartthrobs and happily-ever-afters, she can be found indulging her need for reality TV and wistfully flipping through home and garden magazines. Neve lives near the beach with her family.
Well that was a cute read and a lovely distraction while we are whiling away the time in lockdown.
The setting of the story is beautiful. Cottrell brings it to life with sensory language and rich description. Its a wonderful mental getaway from being locked in my house in the north. Mangrove Island is an escapist dream with lush greenery, the beautiful sea, a picturesque community and even its only animal sanctuary.
Aside from the dreamy setting the characters are easy to get attached too. Caspian is a modern day rake with a good heart and a code of honor. I enjoyed cheering him on. I found him refreshing because even though he is a party-boy rake he is also very self-reflective. Rebecca is fresh off a low key (as in not publicly known) scandal and is licking her wounds on the island and trying to figure out what her next move is. She is interesting because I never doubted her strength as a character but she was definitely wallowing in self pity/moping for critical parts of the book. They made an amusing pair and a sweet story.
Though, I do wish that the reader got to see Rebecca deal with the expectations of her family. Specifically her parents. She purposely hid what happened to her from them and refused to tell them till she had a plan and was back up on her feet. She talks about how they are judgmental and she is worried about letting them down. I really would have liked to see some resolution on that front.
Finally I love when a series weaves in previous characters. It helps me as a reader immerse myself more fully into the story and creates this sense of return or homecoming when the community is reliable.
Overall I am enjoying this box set. I'm glad that I invested in it!

I love Neve's books! Perfect summer reads and I adore how all the characters tie in together like a little community. These books remind me of a racy hallmark movie, keep you wanting to read more!
The whole royalty falls for the average American girl thing is hard for me to get into. I can get totally engaged in a supernatural story but make it a royalty vs average American and I am unable to suspend disbelief.
An enemies to friends to happily ever after. He is a playboy and she is out to improve his image. A great addition to the series. Definitely looking forward to reading more in the series.
Nothing special about this one. It’s a quick read and predictable love story but the heroine was so irritating and then the plot was wrapped up too quickly. Maybe the sequels will be better because I did enjoy those supporting characters.

This was a quick and enjoyable read that had some unexpected twists and turns along the way to its happily ever after. It was nice to return to Mangrove Island in Florida and feel the warmth of the sun and ocean breezes as I sit here waiting for snow.
Rebecca has a fiery personality and she lets it loose whenever something isn’t going her way, which lately has been often. Coming home to her parent’s vacation home on the island to lick her wounds and to decide what to do with her life now that she is without her job in public relations in New York City and her former boyfriend and boss, Brad, was something that she was trying to keep from her parents. Her brother Connor shows up unexpectedly and it was interesting to see their interactions – some loving, caring and supportive and others like they reverted to their childhoods. Caspian, who hails from England, is a unique character that I tended to picture older than he actually is and his political advisor and good friend, Alistair, tried to keep him on the straight and narrow. He had a lot of redeeming qualities even if he tended to drink too much, date women once before dropping them and didn’t seem to do much but throw parties and entertain.
It was nice to reunite with characters from book one but there were many others throughout that piqued my interest as well. There was a plot line that was far fetched at times but actually worked especially since Rebecca and Caspian had immediate chemistry even if it was explosive! There were friends, family, acquaintances, adventures on the water, beautiful descriptions of the island, the boats, the restaurants/bars, homes and the water that made me feel like I was there. There was lots of loving along with some romance and the anticipated happily ever after. There was nice closure but enough loose ends that it’s nice to know we’ll be back.
Cottrell is a new to me author after having read and reviewed her first book, Long Way Home. I look forward to continuing the series when I read No Place Like Home, Book 3 which was just released.
A good contemporary romance about an English aristocrat (Caspian Warwick) hiding out on the island after resigning from his position in the House of Lords after one two many media scandals. The heroine (Rebecca Laughlin) is escaping to the island after an affair with her boss ends with her finding out he cheated with her co-worker. Rebecca is hired by Caspian and his political advisor/longtime friend Alistair to fix Caspian's image in time for him to run for an election in the House of Commons (representing Bunbury). This is a tall order, as the introduction of Caspian into the story was him waking up in his bed next to some random woman and with a hangover after a night of partying on his yacht.
I really liked Caspian; I loved Alistair and quite frankly he deserves his own book (he is ready to marry Jemima, Caspian's sister, but Caspian's mom wants Caspian married off first). Rebecca I couldn't relate to or connect with - she is impulsive to the point of TSTL territory, and she has bad judgment (sleeping with her boss who has quite the reputation as a love'em and leave'em sort). Her family is emotionally exhausting; her mother calls daily and her brother comes to the island to find the truth of Rebecca's sudden vacation. Yeah, I don't mind that Rebecca lied to them throughout the story.
Even though I didn't care for the heroine, I still raced through the book because it was entertaining and much better written than many contemporary romances I have read. I definitely bought into the HEA, but a HFN could have worked just as well. A copy editor is needed to polish this solid story.
I know that the storyline of an English aristocrat that falls in love with an american is a little banal, but this story was different - for my taste. I loved both characters, Caspian & Rebbeca, and their chimistry together. There were a few great scenes, and I couldn't put the kindle down. Most reccomended for reading (and re-reading in a few months
I love Rebecca. She has gone to her parents summer home to get away from it all. No job & no place to live. She is back on the island one day and Caspian has run her over in his yacht. From that point on the sarcasm just rolls off her. They are so much fun to read about. You will love this book!
Apparently people still write books about playboy dukes who fall in love with ordinary American girls. If you can swallow that one then you'll likely enjoy this book. The characters are likable and the setting lovely.
Rebecca runs away from a bad love affair to her family's summer place. By chance she gets a PR job to rehab the image of an English lord! A tough job but, she is up for it.
Caspian and Bex had awesome chemistry. Loved that he was so close with Alistair. And too cool about why Alistair was all about getting Caspian a bride.
The love story of Rebecca and Lord Caspian Warwick. After Rebecca leave New York after a break up with her boy friend, she go to Mangrove Island to recover and think about what to do about a job. Caspian is on his yacht and run over her kayak. And a new love story begin. You like this one.
