If you are looking for a clean romance, pick this one up. Such a cute read. Check trigger warnings there is a deep topic in this book.

I had high hopes based on the blurb, and it had so much potential, especially at the start. For me, there were too many things but never quite enough detail to feel like I was immersed in the story. Some of the plot didn't quite make sense, and there were contradictions in a few places that pulled me out of the story.
The bones are definitely here, just didn't work for me.

I had to stop at Chapter 16. I feel like I missed a whole story in between chapters. The inconsistencies up to the point I read made me realize that this isn't going to be a book for me.
Kristen is pulled over on her way to work. Jason suspects DV and hands her his card. He can't stop thinking about her after a few minutes of interaction.
Somehow the guys he works with know that he's randomly thinking about her, when it seemed to be a few weeks since he pulled her over. There's no mention of Jason and Kristen having any communication other than her getting pulled over.
He's a cop and a call comes in that he and his partner (I think it's actually just another cop at the precinct) go to the address. He finds her in the bathroom after her boyfriend was trying to break down their bathroom door to get to her.
Her best friend is called and shows up and takes her home. Yet the next morning she wakes up in her own bed. How's that possible when she was on Cassidy's couch the night before? I was going to ignore that, but then I got to Chapter 15.
Jason picks up Lauren, his ex wife for a parent/teacher conference at school. He doesn't get out of the car to say hello to his son, and mentions on the way to the school that he hasn't seen him since school started. Why wouldn't you get out and say hello to your 9 year old son?
They get to the school and of course Kristen is the teacher. She's shocked because she didn't know he had a kid and assumes he is also married. They saw each other at a bar prior to the meeting and talked and shared a dance. It makes not sense that he wouldn't mention that he had a child especially since he knew she worked at the school he attended.
Kristen is saying that she can't believe Jason is there with his son and wife. A few pages later she states that she can't believe he walked in with his wife and son who is her student. She mentions it again in the same chapter. THE KID WAS NOT THERE. He was home with Lauren's Mom.
Jason was supposed to talk to Caden when they got back to Lauren's house, but he just dropped her off and drove home. There was no mention of Caden at all.
Next chapter, that I had just about enough - Jason says his son was with him at the conference. THE KID WAS NOT THERE.
Then he calls Kristen because he's upset about the way it looked, like he was married. Kristen says, "I let you touch me". They had one freaking dance, not foreplay or sex.
There was absolutely no development of these characters. She just got out of a DV situation and a few pages later you would think her and Jason have been together for awhile.
The editing in this book is horrendous. I'm not even sure this is an actual author. There is no picture or summary about the author, which is odd.
If I could write this review and not give it any stars I would.

This is a borderline Christian story. There is ALMOST some spice but they stop because, you know, wait for marriage I guess. I tried really hard to like this but I just couldn't. Hence 1*; not so much because it's 'clean' but because it is frankly boring. Nothing really happens, even with the abusive ex. They both get hurt and wind up in the hospital. They both nurse one another back to health. (yawn) There's no drama. Everything just plods along from day to day.
The writing is repetitive. I had a larger review but have lost interest in this. I tried to finish it but simply gave up at 75%; DNF.
This kind of writing made me roll my eyes: She thought her jeans were “too tight to be respectable.” I told her she looked beautiful.

heavily emotional
This book wrecked me emotional. I had to walk away 3 times in 20 minutes because I was sobbing so hard. This is one of those books that I will recommend without a second thought. There is only one other book that is an immediate recommendation. I highly recommend reading this with the warning of maybe have a box of tissues ready and don’t read during your time of the month lol

I enjoyed this story. Lainey Laramie is a new-to-me author. I couldn't find a whole lot about her or her books before I read this one, but from what I did find I surmised it was a clean read and I guess that is true.. technically. Nothing explicit or graphic but things got very heated and teetered on the edge of being a bit too much. That said... I don't think the feelings or the situation were unrealistic or just tossed it. They fit the narrative, I just personally think the descriptions could have been a bit less.

Jason pulled over for a traffic stop and tried to help Kristen get out of a horrible relationship. He came and helped her when she needed to the most. He gave her comfort and security. Kristen and Jason had obstacles that they had to overcome but conquered through all of it together.
