The last thing I expected during Bramble Dale’s big debut cook-off was a dead food critic face-first in a plate of my best friends winning but fatal almond chicken. It was an accident because she wouldn’t poison him on purpose. Really? Now I’m knee-deep in flour, lies, and a whole lot of bad alibis, trying to figure out who really wanted this foodie dead. Between his baking co-star girlfriend stealing the show and a rival food critic cutting into his review columns this harsh baking judge had more enemies than a guy could choke on. With my pet detective yellow Lab, Peanut, and my dangerously handsome crush, I’m out to uncover the truth one dish at a time. Between stolen recipes, missing tapes, and shady chefs, secrets are heating up. I have to find a killer fast or I might be the next one served cold in the morgue and my bestie will be cooking up lunch in the prison cafeteria.
This one is about a murder at a cooking competition involving walnuts. The main character's friend is the suspect. These two and Peanut spend the story looking for the killer. The mystery takes some interesting turns. It's a quick read with a satisfying ending.
Wow, what a way to start a book, straight to the action with a murder! Followed by a question: Was the suspect framed? How clever that a dog foreshadows what's to come.
Peanut the dog is the cutest and cleverest. Will he be able to sniff out any clues?
A dangerous and captivating journey to catch a killer.
“Her hands gripped the steering wheel a little too tightly.” The writer Daisy does an amazing job at outlining how it feels to be blamed for a murder that they claim that they did not commit. The emotional effects make it seem real and credible, that or she's a great liar?
With so many suspects who could the killer be? I kept adding suspects to my list just like Chloe. A gripping read that help the mind guessing.
A break in, a hidden tape and Blackmail.
This book begs the qiestion: Just how far would you go for fame?
“I passed farms, old barns, and unmarked mailbox,” “This was isolation.” “This feels like the start of a horror movie” The tension built here, the fear, the unknown and potential danger. The writing here really sets the scene. As a reader I do not know what could happen and the anticipation is killing me. Xander Adams is a very intimidating Man.
“It was betrayal with a garnish” I love how food references are used throughout this book keeping to the theme of cooking.
The frustration knowing that the key to everything could be right in front of them.
Theft.
I love how each character summarises the suspects and their motives just before we get the big reveal. This helps remind the reader of all the facts. Helpful dialogue that starts to bring the story together, without revealing too much.
A Sting.
A Romance within a Murder Mystery is always a good idea as it adds to the story.
A man or woman hunt. The ending of this book is intense. A hostage!
Hints that there is more mysteries to come for Chloe to solve, I can't wait, can you?
I received this book for the purpose of a fair and honest review.
Overview: Chloe Lane is taking a break from her bookstore, in honor of her friend's good fortune. Rosie is both her childhood best friend, and competing in a cook off competition, complete with celebrity judges. One of them, Greg Winters, is well known for his, shall we say, vitriolic restaurant reviews. Too bad that he wasn't thinking about his walnut allergy. Why did Rosie's dish have walnut extract in it, and not the almond extract like it was supposed to have? And not just walnut extract, but the more potent black walnut extract? Could Rosie have had a problem with Mr. Winters? One thing is certain, Greg Winters had no problem with making enemies. Let's see which one got to him first.
Dislikes: Mr. Ramsey had to be the inspiration for Greg Winters. This man had no consideration at all for what his cruel verbal attacks did to the recipients. Was it just the sense of power that being able to destroy the restaurant owners? Or did he have a problem with jealousy.
Then again Miranda, Leo, and Sato were almost as bad.
Likes: The Daniels twins were a hoot. Daniel and Dani worked well together. Though Dani has to give Daniel acid reflux at times. Then again, Daniel does have Rosie to help him out when needed.
Peanut is a goof. Labs are usually easy going. What is Peanut going to do after he growls at you? Knock you over for a treat?
Rosie proved to be a great friend.
Conclusion: This is a fun story and a quick novel. I'd advise that those who have a limited amount of time, yet wants to settle in with a cozy mystery, to give this one a shot. Enjoy the read.
I have loved this series since the very first book, and "Murder Served Cold" is no exception. The mix of cooking competition drama and murder mystery creates a captivating blend of "Bake Off" and amateur sleuthing, drawing me in from the very first page.
Rosie is both excited and a bit nervous about entering the baking competition. Imagine her surprise when the judge tastes her dish and suddenly collapses dead! Naturally, Rosie becomes the main suspect. Will her boyfriend, Officer Daniel, along with the help of Chloe and her loyal Labrador, Peanut, be able to prove her innocence?
Chloe Lane is the perfect protagonist: intelligent, witty, and unafraid to plunge into trouble when her best friend is named the prime suspect in a suspicious death. And who doesn’t love a dog at the heart of a mystery? Peanut, her loyal Labrador, has more personality than most of the contestants in that kitchen!
I love the small-town vibe of Bramble Dale. The suspects were intriguing enough to keep me guessing, and I particularly enjoyed the friendships and the lengths to which the characters would go to protect one another. The pacing was steady, and I appreciated how all the elements came together seamlessly without feeling forced. The story delivers a well-balanced blend of mystery, friendship, and a dash of humor.
I recommend this book if you enjoy cozy mysteries filled with quirky characters and a dash of culinary chaos. I can't wait to see what adventures Chloe and Peanut embark on next!
To quote the blurb that is superb.A dour hour neck up in,flour and lies and false alibis . That’s all she kneads 😜 get it flour ,kneads ? Suit yourself … . Haha ,anyway back to the book. It’s Bramble Dale’s big cook-off. But something’s amiss. Her best friend wouldn’t do this ? But it is her almond chicken that the dead foot critics is now lying in face down too ,ew! But of course she has a secret weapon in her arsenal, her pet detective yellow Lab Peanut will sniff out the clues ,follow the trail . They won’t fail, but those suspects are very…well …suspect! Suspiciously they hang around ,as if they want to be found out. Well they’re not exactly screaming and shouting it’s me,oh no but there’s one of them who’s in the know. There’s his baking star girlfriend ,does she stand to gain from his demise. Well it wouldn’t be a surprise. But a scathing review and what have you ,well the culprits are lining up . Well she has a dish to help out as well as Peanut to yelp out . So she’s covered on those fronts. There’s something shady that’s for certain and she needs to act fast before her mate faces incarceration! Great storytelling superb characters with their own trait . Ever so compelling too . First rate ,the writing style of Daisy Belle always makes me smile . Such a delight to read and I look forward to her great books with greed.
Murder Served Cold captivated me from the first page and pulled me deep into its world with its myriad twists and turns, leaving me gasping with each one. In particular, the unexpected major twist left my mouth hanging open in surprise.
Chloe’s best friend, Rosie, enters a cooking contest and is very careful to follow all the rules. Rosie becomes the number one suspect when a famous food critic, Greg Winters, who is judging the contest, falls dead during the event right after tasting Rosie’s dish.
Chloe and her yellow lab, Peanut, are on the case, as she is determined not to let Rosie take the fall for something she didn’t do. Chloe and Peanut’s investigation reveals many twists and turns, along with the numerous people who didn’t like Greg.
I must say I truly enjoyed reading Murder Served Cold far more than I expected, even though I had no doubt I would love it before I began reading. I don’t need to read a summary of a book by Daisy Belle to know I want to read it or will enjoy it. Daisy writes the most engaging and riveting stories that keep you in suspense from the first page to the last.
I can’t wait to read the next tantalizing story in the Chloe Lane Cozy Mystery series. I highly recommend Murder Served Cold to all cozy mystery fans! Grab a copy of Murder Served Cold today!
It's the Bramble Dale Cook-off and Chloe is excited for her best friend, Rosie who's entering her special almond chicken dish. And to make it more exciting, a celebrity food critic, Greg Winters will be judging. He is not liked and his reviews have been known to hurt restaurant owners. So when he dies face down in Rosie's chicken, she is looked at as suspect number one for his murder. Chloe will not let her best friend go down for something she didn't do, so she, her clue finding yellow Lab, Peanut and Chloe's boyfriend, Aiden are on the case. Can they wade through all the potential suspects who for one reason or another hated Winters? There are so many twists and turns in this book, you are carried to a surprise ending you never guessed! I highly recommend this book! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Cooking competitions can be deadly. When despised food critic and cooking show host drops dead at a food competition and Chloe Lane's best friend Rosie is accused of the crime, it's full on investigation time. Chloe knows what it's like to be falsely accused of a crime and will go to any lengths to reinstate Rosie's innocence. With the help of her very inquisitive dog Peanut and her friends Aiden, Daniel and Dani she goes into the studios and restaurants where Greg had wielded his power. When the police chief sanctions her investigation Chloe knows it's just a matter of time until she finds the killer. Many interesting characters whose profiles are expanding with each outing make this a fine read in the Chloe Lane series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I want to start by saying I received an ARC of this book. This is the fourth book in A Chloe Lane Cozy Mystery Series. The main character is of course Chloe and her dog Peanut. A famous food critic dies at a food competition after trying some food and the main suspect is Chloe’s best friend Rosie. Can they prove Rosie is innocent? Can they find the real killer? Who wanted him dead and why? I loved this book. I loved watching Chloe and Peanut with the help of Aiden, Rosie, James, Dani, and Daniel solve the case. This is probably one of my favorite cozy mystery series as it keeps me intrigued by each mystery but it also has romance in it. I have a feeling we will be seeing Chloe and Aiden dating soon maybe even Dani and James. Plus, Daniel and Rosie are just the cutest couple (only couple in the book for now). I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Chloe had the second hardest fight for justice (her own being the first one time) when her bestie Rosie was the prime suspect in a food critic’s death after he ate what Rosie cooked. With her sweetie Aiden’s help and of course Peanut p, the awesome crime sniffing dog on the case, what could go wrong? Plenty actually! What a wild showdown it was, with everyone facing off with the killer but only one having the guts to actually go after them.
The celebration party afterward was really cool. I absolutely love the new police chief’s character and how she welcomed Chloe’s help. She even found a way to reward Chloe and sweet Peanut. After reading the preview to the next book given at the end of this one, I can’t wait to read the book!
Book store owner Chloe Lane finds herself in the midst of a murder investigation when someone poisons a reviled food critic during Bramble Dale’s cookoff. Her friend, Rosie, has been framed for the murder and it’s up to Chloe and her Yellow Lab Peanut to clear her name. Along with her friends, Chloe pulls at threads until the mystery is solved and the killer is apprehended.
I really enjoyed this mystery. It was fast, fun read with great characters, several suspects and a plot that was interesting without becoming overly complicated. I will definitely be reading more of this author’s work and I recommend that other readers check her out.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Murder Served Cold by Daisy Belle is a Chloe Lane mystery set in the village of Bramble Dale. When the town hosts its first-ever cook-off, unfortunately, the event is quickly overshadowed by the sudden death of a notorious food critic—apparently from an almond allergy. The main suspect is one of Chloe’s closest friends, prompting her and her dog, Peanut, to find the real killer.
If you enjoy a mystery full of twists and turns, this one delivers. But if you’re looking for strict police procedure, this isn’t the book for you. It’s a classic, lighthearted cozy mystery—perfect for a fun, relaxing afternoon read.
Rosie Rivera was in a cooking contest. The judge took one bite of Rosie’s food and died. It was rumored that it was walnuts that caused it but Rosie did not use walnuts. Rosie is taken in for questioning. Chloe and her friend Aiden, her dog Peanut and Rosie’s boyfriend Detective Daniels are all trying to help her by finding the killer. A very good read. Had you guessing right to the end. A very enjoyable read.
I’m received an advance review copy, ARC, for free and I am leaving an honest opinion and voluntary review
I enjoy Daisy Belle and her writing style. The characters are relatable. Best friends, business owners, and friends on the police force round out the crew. Then we have all the studio workers and celebrities. Poisoned with Black walnut extract, Greg, the least popular man in town dies of an allergic reaction. Of course, Peanut, a golden lab, is a necessary aid in discovering clues. Lots of suspects, yet the motive and means are revealed. Epilogue hints at the next mystery in the next book.
When a food critic falls dead face first into the plate of the winning dish made by her best friend, Chloe sets out to prove her innocence and with the help of furry companion Peanut and some friends she interviews those in the restaurant business who may have had run-ins with the despised food critic in order to sort out those with motives. They discover many suspects with many motives but she’s determined to prove her friend’s innocence. This plot has lots of twists and turns and keeps you guessing it’s a great read and will keep you entertained! Cherie
Chloe’s friend, Rosie, is the top suspect in the murder of a food critic judge. The man had a reputation for being a very harsh critic, but who would want him dead? Well, it seems just about everyone who crossed paths with him. Now Chloe and her friends are racing to narrow the suspect list down and find the real killer.
A story with murder, revenge, blackmail, theft, and more.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
- SMART DOG & FRIENDS SOLVE THE CASE I loved this story of smart Peanut who often ''accidentally on purpose'' helps find clues to solve the case. Rosie's boyfriend and Chloe and her boyfriend Aiden close in to clear Rosie of murder. It's a clean story with no sex scenes but with flirty attraction between Chloe and Aiden. And yes, it was funny too !
Thanks to the author for allowing me to be on her ARC team. Chloe's friend Rosie is participating in a cooking contest when the nasty food critic judge drops dead after tasting her entry. Of course she is the #1 suspect and it is up to Chloe and her dog Peanut to ferret out the killer. It turns out that the food critic is a universally hated blackmailer and every time Chloe thinks she's making progress, she finds another suspect. Fast paced and entertaining.
Chloe and Peanut are involved in a new case. This one Chloe's friend Rosie is accused of murdering a food critic at cooking contest. Chloe starts to investigate with the help of detective dog Peanut who finds most of the physical clues, while Chloe has to deal with the written ones. The duo makes a great team and solves the mystery while enjoying fresh baked scones! I received an arc and this is my review.
Murder at a bake-off competition. Rosie was the unfortunate cook of the particular dish that caused the death. A huge reaction to something everyone knew not to use in their dishes. The judge was very unpopular and the more that Chloe with Peanut her dog & the police find out, the wider the scope gets. He was doing some very bad things behind the scenes. I just loved the ending of this book.
This was a great book! It had mystery and suspense and twist & turns like any good book should have. Chloe and her sidekick Peanut solve this mystery with the help of their friends. The characters are lovable and quirky and funny but very serious when it comes to murder. This story is definitely worth the read. I read it in a day and a half. Loved it!
I’m addicted to cooking shows, but I never realized how dangerous they could be. I readily admit I could never be a judge because there are too many things I won’t eat (mushrooms) and a few things I have an allergy/sensitivity to, but none that will kill me. Unfortunately, my daughter does have a few that can, so I do know how fast a reaction can be. It is those hidden ingredients that can kill and in the case of Greg Winters, they do. Bookstore owner, parttime solver of murders, Chloe and her lab, Peanut, have to clear her best friend’s name. Turns out there will be plenty of suspects. This was a fun murder to solve even though I may have developed a craving for lemon bars.
This mystery is full of unexpected things. It is well written and hard not to finish quickly. I enjoyed the journey to the truth. Peanut (the dog) is a star.
I received this book as an ARC. My review is completely voluntary.
I really like this series. The new chief of police seems competent. The mains police friends are coming into their own. Her and Aiden are super cute and I can't wait to see what happens next with them.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed reading this book! The books storyline will keep you guessing who did it. I can't wait to see what happens next. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
This was a great story about Chloe and her dog finding clues who is responsible for killing a chef with lots of suspense and action and solving it. Thank you for this awesome story.
This was a good little murder mystery that is a quick read and perfect for the holiday weekend to read. It had great characters and an interesting story line.
Wonderfully twisty! Once again we get to follow Chloe and her friends as they unravel the clues. Loved it, and am looking forward to the next installment.
