FiveStars This short, smart story has a lot of depth. I was able to finish it in under an hour, but it will take me much longer to process through the complex themes. I found the story easily relatable on a personal level, though I understand not every person will feel it rings true to their particular experience. Even so, there were a lot of complicated feelings, and the author handled them well without coming across as "educating" readers. One thing I appreciated was the exploration of an older person (i.e., not a teen or twentysomething) discovering his sexual and gender identity. That's easy to mishandle for the sake of plot, but this was done incredibly well and with a lot of sensitivity.
Almost anything else I say could be a spoiler because there are numerous revelations throughout. One thing I will note is that when the main character, Chris, is with a partner and shown full acceptance, it brought tears to my eyes--despite the fact that it was in the middle of a very steamy moment. I loved this carefully crafted, excellent story, and I'm in awe of how wonderfully well-written it is. Another time I wish I had more than 5 stars to give. This was an different sort of little story. I found certain thoughts to be confusing the way they were written. Like his hidden surprise habit. I felt it could've been expressed a little better.
I was a little surprised to find out a bit more about Jessica, but I liked where it went and how it was all revealed. But some of the time jumps and the way the story flowed was jilted and made it hard to follow.... like what actually happens between Chris and Jessica when they meet.
I feel like this story had such great potential but was so rushed and important parts skimmed over that it left the reader behind and unable to connect to Chris and what he is going through.

It was fun to read about gamers, and the frank honesty of what happens in these MMO games sometimes (ah, the good old SecondLife days.) The twist was sort of expected given the initial hook, but still led to a satisfying conclusion.
Chris knows that his online gaming habits are not the most healthy thing for him. And he has tried, honestly, to walk away from his games. But he always finds himself coming back. With this latest fall off the wagon, though, he does something that he has been secretly longing to do for a long time: play as a female character.
When he meets Jessica, another player on the game, they quickly fall into a less than platonic, if completely cyber, relationship. Chris knows he should be honest, or at the very least keep his secret identity strictly in the land of elves and orcs, but with each new meeting he finds himself drawn closer and closer to Jessica…and even closer to Christina, his online persona.
I’m pretty much split on this one. The begging was a bit of a rough sell, for me. I had a hard time getting into the story and orientating myself in the world of online gaming. It’s only something I dabbled with many many moons ago, and not something I know all that much about. Since I wasn’t sure what characters in this game were capable of (visual wise) I kept getting confused as to what was fantasy and what was actually taking place (in cyberspace). The sexting was pretty damn hot, though.
As the story got underway, I did start to find the groove, though it wasn’t until near the end, where the two characters met in real life that I was totally enjoying myself. That thing with the panties and the gaming table? Yeah, that was freaking hot. *happy sigh* Give me a little bit of lace over a hard cock and I’m yours for life.
A lot of misdirection and half-truths made it hard for me to find my head space, but it also made the story interesting…so, it wasn’t the end of the world, I guess. I think that the story might have lost focus a bit during the middle (Amanda’s rambling just about put me to sleep) but it pulled it together nicely in the end. Wish we had a bit more of that, and a bit less of confusing middle bit.

This short story was cute and hot. I was curious to see if the story went the way I thought it would from reading the blurb. Yup – it did (falls into spoiler territory if I say why, even if it’s pretty guessable). That’s not a bad thing and as a bonus, I got one of my favorite fetishes – a hot guy in women’s underwear. At that point, everything went fuzzy and I didn’t care about plot points or anything else – I was just enjoying the visuals in my head.
If you read the blurb, it clearly states that gaming is in the story, and it is a major part of the plot in terms of the ‘geek speak’. I’m not a huge fan of that, and I guess I wasn’t expecting all the World of Warcraft stuff. That’s probably my fault for not taking the blurb more seriously, but I was looking for more of the ‘Catfish’ element. If WOW isn’t your most favorite thing ever, your main reason for reading this better be a hot guy in women’s underwear. Just sayin’.
There were some clunky moments and a few actions by the characters I didn’t entirely buy, but did I mention there was a hot guy in women’s underwear? Oh, right. Overall, it was a sweet story with a little tension when Chris decides to go through with meeting ‘Jessica’. Their final hookup was what I’d hoped it would be and I thought they were a cute couple. I wouldn’t mind reading more about these characters in the future, but with less gaming and more underwear. Chris could delete his gaming account again and they could open up a lingerie boutique together. I would totally buy that book.
I give Sext Based Adventures 4 Stars.

Summary:
To some people, the Internet gives them the freedom to step out of their lives and try something new, but that could mislead the other people they meet online. The only place where Chris felt he could truly be himself was on line, but that isolated him from everyone around him. When he met Jessica on line he found someone he allowed him to be himself, but even then he was playing his female persona he wasn't totally lying. There were many surprises in store for Chris and Jessica when they finally met, but you will have to read the story to find out what happened. While I liked the story it seemed to lack the depth in the characters that would have enhanced the plot.
Chris lives his life vicariously through his online persona, Christina. He has certain needs, tendencies if you will, that he doesn't share with anyone except his best friend. As Christina he is able to at least visually and mentally engage himself, and when the online relationship with Jessica becomes more Chris doesn't mind. It's not until Jessica suggests they meet in the real world that Chris starts to sweat it. What will happen when his online dream girl learns that Chris is not Christina, and that Chris's tastes or sort of singular.
It's very hard to review this short without giving away the major plot twist, and since it's not listed in the synopsis, I'm going to keep my mouth shut about that as well. I'll just say this is a very well written short story that is not what it seems to be. As the story unfolds, and personalities not only merge but grow, you learn a lot about Chris/Christina and Jessica that will keep you on your toes and guessing until the fateful meeting.
I thought the relationship between the two characters progressed a little fast, and then there was a little twist lets just say in the last chapter that wasn't quite believable for me, but other than that I really enjoyed this sexy little short story.

I kept putting my kindle down and doing other things. It just didn't grab my attention at all. It was kind of boring. Which is kind of sad... Because the idea of this story... Was a good one... Just poorly executed I think.
It had way too much internal thinking (And that just kills any book for me.). Just took away from the story. All the World of Warcraft talk was a little to much for me too. I found myself skimming certain parts.
I thought this book was going to have way more of a texting or emailing dialogue. But it doesn't.
I think the only part I liked about this book was when Chris and "Jessica" revealed who they really were to each other and then hooked up. The sex scene was ok. Nothing hardcore or anything. Just ok.
This is all about dudes hooking up while playing World of Warcraft. Okay, no, there's more to it than that. Chris creates a female character in the game to fulfill some of his real life desires. He meets another female character and they strike up a relationship. It starts as purely sexual, then morphs into something slightly deeper via email, until they finally decide to meet. Chris has to come clean about being a man, and he also reveals his other secret, that he likes to wear women's underwear. Turns out the other female character was played by a male, and he's pretty into the underwear thing.
I enjoyed the story of what can happen when you give half truths. It was a quick read. I wouldn't necessarily say there was a plot twist, but I enjoyed the outcome. There was quite a bit of internal dialogue... I enjoyed Chris opening up to his sister, Amanda. He needed someone he could talk to about anything and he had that in her. Overall, I enjoyed the story.
