For eight years, the rage has simmered beneath my skin, waiting. Now, it burns — white-hot, molten, unstoppable. And it’s aimed at them.
Seven men.
Seven men shattered me.
Seven men will die before I can reclaim the broken pieces of my soul.
But I never expected to find someone else on the same path. Someone with the same hunger for vengeance against the men who thought they owned me.
They never did.
Because I was never theirs.
I was always his.
Nate:
She was mine the moment I saw her. The moment a flash of pink stopped me cold and made me question everything.
Nothing has ever felt as good as killing — until her.
Now, I’ll do whatever it takes to deliver the justice she craves. Justice carved in blood, written in screams.
And fuck, she’s never looked hotter than when she’s covered in it.
This is a dark romance with many possible triggers. Please check the warnings before reading—a list of these can be found on my website. This is the first in a series of standalone romances in the Murderously Romantic series. Each book can be read individually, however, they are best enjoyed in order.
I write emotionally twisted love stories where obsession isn’t a red flag—it’s a love language.
Dark romance is a new escape for me, but it quickly became my favourite. There’s something about a man who would burn the world down for one woman—and only her—that gets me every time. That’s what I write: stories where love is intense, healing comes with scars, and devotion runs just a little bit deranged.
I don’t have a writing routine. I write wherever, whenever, and as much as I can—usually while half-daydreaming about a morally grey man who can’t stop thinking about her.
My books live somewhere between spice and softness. There’s heat, sure—but also heart. I love characters who’ve been through hell and still find someone willing to walk through the flames with them.
If you’re into obsessive men, emotional chaos, and stories that leave you a little breathless, you’re in the right place.
Thank you to Olivia Jane for allowing me to reads this early! A dark romance, where comedy is clear and present throughout, about two people who are serial killers working together? Perfection in my eyes.
I obviously do not condone serial killers and their behaviours but this is a fictional world, before I get judged 😘
This book follows Carina and Nate, two “very stable” individuals who often like to partake in murderous activities. Well it starts off with Carina who is getting revenge on all the guys who sold her and acted like their owned her after she was sold off in a sex trafficking ring. After managing to escaping and gaining her confidence and everything that those men broke from her? She wanted justice.
Enter Nate, who is also on a war path to get justice to those who need it. Domestic abusers, rapists, the lot. When these two meet when they planned to kill the same guy, they hit it off.
The comedy in this book was so good, when there was often times where the matters were serious, expect Nate or Carina to make a joke about it. Trauma dumping more like it, but in a comedic manner. Gives off “if you don’t laugh you’ll cry” but instead of crying, these two would just end up committing crimes.
Considering Nate is a serial killer, he is THE BIGGEST, and i mean BIGGEST, golden retriever you could get. The way he is all giddy seeing Carina, and yes he smiles and gets excited when she partakes in their extra-curricular activities, yet if any harm came her way? He would BURN the world down for her.
Carina. The way this girl was still strong, at times anyway, as after what she went through, it was no surprise that she would occasionally break. But seeing her gain her confidence, and yes her fear deteriorated as she shrunk her hit list as the story went along, was amazing.
My only con, would be that I would have loved this to be longer. At times it did feel like it was going too quick, but you could argue that this was a fast paced book and that was why it was set like this. Either way, this was a good read, a good laugh, a good squeal, and the way I’m now going to get Enzo’s and Kai’s stories?
Kai the quiet guy who’s been stuck to be Nate’s cleaner, you can guy what kind of cleaner. He’s so monotone, doesn’t like people, and often keeps him to himself. Sounds perfect.
And enzo? MY ITALIAN MAN ENZO? mysterious man, who helped Carina become the woman she is? Oh i am SO READY for more of him, as he is also “touch her and you die” energy, especially for Carina, my man cared so much about her, after helping her upon her escape and preparing her for who she was becoming.
If you want a read, not too long, just over 300 pages, where there’s comedy, two psychotic main characters and a whole lot of tension and fast paced? You will love this!
especially the way Nate is so infatuated with Carina it is crazy. My man was OBSESSED from day one. And i mean day one of meeting her.
Thank you again Olivia Jane for letting me read this early <3
Tropes: 🖤lovers who kill together 💀touch her = you die, but also touch him = you die 🔪revenge plots with body counts 🩸blood-soaked intimacy, ifykyk 🐶golden retriever MMC (with a knife hidden behind his back)
I loved the opener of this book it was immediately off to a great start. I'm loving the chapter numbers with the knives ⚔️ design below, the titles, and then the hypothetical questions that are a really great and fun addition. I love the layout at the beginning of each chapter, and I also love the structure and layout of the text messages. I think this has a great impact and delivery on the story.
The main characters development is absolutely brilliant I instantly loved Carina and Nate and all the other characters involvement is a great attribute to the quality of this story. Carina's journey of resilience and survival is so emotional and empowering and Nate's support and devotion to her and his organisation is a great testament to his character and had me swooning. There are several strong villains throughout, which intensifies the plot and keeps you gripping the edge of your seat. The blend of dark romance and humour is brilliantly written. I was hooked from the beginning and loved it from the beginning to the end. I greedily wanted more and didn't want it to end as "there's nothing quite so cathartic as a little light murder." I would HIGHLY recommend it! I look forward to reading more from this author. I am so glad to have discovered this author the progression of her writing skills truly shows in this book.
I received this book as an ARC and this review is all my own honest opinions and thoughts, so without further a do, what are you waiting for go and get this amazing book available on Amazon KU and Paperback.
Who knew a serial killer could be such a cinnamon roll. Nate is funny, calm, the most caring to Carina, and will do anything for her. Born in a world of money and power, he is not what you would expect and is full of surprises.
Carina, having been through hell throughout her life, started to reclaim her power and her herself bit by bit and when she finds herself stumbling, Nate is right there by her side to remind her how strong and fierce is she.
They're a couple with the most unexpected lifestyle that somehow keeps reeling you in till the very end. I was hooked.
The story of their past and what brought them to where they are at present, what made them do what they did and continue to do so, and why to them it matters so much was brilliant. Loved Kai (Nates best friend) and Enzo (Carinas friend), their personalities are somewhat similar yet different and can't wait for their books 😊
This is Book is wild, insane, sad, and really just so good! A dark romance with humour that has a unique storyline. Cute details on page and hypotheticals that I absolutely loved!
Killers. Justice. Revenge. Obsessed Man. This book has all those things! And honestly I loved every minute of it! Carinas life has not been an easy journey, being traded from one person to another. It’s time for her revenge. Nate is in the business helping people feel safe and taking out those who hurts people. Nate stalks his next victim, only to discover Carina has beaten him to it. Together he shows her new skills, clean up and the affection she’s been missing. The moment Nate meets Carina, he’s hooked.. with her pink hair, pink dress and pink weapon.. he looks upon her as a princess.. Together they fight through Carinas demons, and get the revenge she deserves. This book had me hooked, from the beginning. The passion and love shown in this story was just beautiful. And I absolutely adored the side characters.. I really hope Kai, Enzo and Dr M get their own stories! I can’t wait to see what comes next from Olivia!
EEEKKK. I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for this book before release and i'm fully obsessed. This book is a dark romcom i would say. It is dark but Olivia makes it quite light hearted. Although it follows a dark story i feel the author has done an amazing job in writting this perfectly. I did not put this down once i started it. The story, the plot, the banter, the romantic relationship, the character developments, the blossiming friendships. it's all there. The book follows Carina (the MFC) who is on a mission to complete her revenge for all the men who have wronged her and in the process meets Nate who is a golden retriever of a man (even though he is a serial unaliver too). It screams giggling and kicking legs and i'm obsessed. It reminded me a lot of butcher and blackbird which i also loved. I think Olivia has done such an amazing job with this book and i would highly recomended reading this when it's out. 5 ⭐️
Thank you so much for the ARC opportunity Olivia Jane - I am obsessed!!!! Now to try and dye my purple hair pink as I need those vibes!!!
This book is the perfect balance between dark romance and a rom-com. I mean the FMC and MMC are serial killers but at the same time it’s light, it’s really funny and it’s properly cute (in a good way). I really enjoyed reading it. I laughed out loud throughout, I stayed up to 1am reading it and then complained all day the following day that I could not immediately read some more. The hypothetical questions at the start of each chapter had me quizzing my other half. I was totally engaged and loved it.
This book is based in the UK which was really nice to read but even if you are not from the UK, Olivia has done an amazing job of setting the scene, describing locations so you can picture exactly what it’s like. Her characters are 👌. I feel like I know both Nate and Carina and am secretly their friend who is in on the secret of their lives.
If you like a darker plot line but wish there was a little more comedy - this book and the ones in the future are for you. Or if you are thinking I would like to try a dark romance but all the trigger warnings feel a bit much, I bet you will like this one (there are content warnings though so do check and be comfortable before you dive in).
No sleep for two days while you turn page after page. The way her name change signaled her healing resonated with me. Steamy love scenes, mmc that adores her. OMG!!!
This has very quickly become one of my favourite books, and I need more people to read it asap so I can yap about it!!!
I read this book in one sitting, I quite literally could not put it down, I was so engrossed 100% of the time.
Nate. Daddy Death. He’s a swiftie, golden retriever, a huge softie for Carina, a gummy worm fanatic, and a serial killer.
Carina has a pink fiat 500, pink hair, pink knife. I think I want to be her (without the trauma and being a serial killer thing). She’s full of anger, she wants revenge, and she is a serial killer.
I’m not sure if ‘meet cute’ is the correct term for how they meet, but the second they lay eyes on each other, they are captivated, even in the violently murderous situation they are in.
PLEASE make sure to check trigger warnings, I didn’t because I’m a freak, but there’s definitely content in the book that could be upsetting to people. This book is a dark romantic comedy. I didn’t even know this genre existed and i love it so much.
Chapter 14 - Let The Games Begin, is one of my favourite chapters omg. It’s so gruesome, will probably be a little difficult for male readers to read, but the author manages to make it funny as well! My mouth was open in shock, whilst I was also stifling a laugh - an interesting combination!
AND TALK ABOUT A PLOT TWIST! I was NOT expecting that, my jaw was so low it smashed through the ground! I felt sick, I was uneasy, I had to take deep breaths - I loved it. I love a book that makes you feel something!
Each chapter started with a hypothetical question, which I really enjoyed. Had me thinking about how I would answer them, that’s for sure.
We meet Tess at the end of the book, who I believe is the romantic interest for Kai in book 2, and omg I love her, she waffles so much and it’s so relatable😂 but I am SO excited for the next book, this one was incredible.
If you've loved Butcher and Blackbird, you'll love this book just the same! I had so much fun thinking about the hypothetical questions at the beginning of each chapter, and I even made it a game at work, and found out interesting things about the people I work with thanks to them 🤣
This was my first read from Olivia, and I'm definitely reading the rest of this series!
I need my own Nate right now, the epilogue had me laughing and sobbing at the same time 🥹❤️
From the first page to the last sentence, it was an amazing thrill ride.
As a survivor of SA, this was spot on with how the FMC coped with the trauma, it was an accurate and amazing read! I can't wait for a story on the other characters!
Where do I even start???? I was very lucky to be chosen to ARC read this book. I loved the story of NATE and CARINA. The chemistry was so intense and disturbing.... I mean, would you expect anything more from psychopaths???!!!!!
Oh yeah, sorry, so NATE is a self diagnosed psychopath who comes from money and power, and he meets CARINA in the most unnatural situation possible! She was doing some unaliving herself. It was intense, gory, and hilarious all at the same time. NATES fixation was almost instant with CARINA and he was drawn to her devilish fire driven eyes, oh and the pink hair too 😜 He did have a caring side to him and he would honestly walk over fire for CARINA. NATE described his work as artistic and ended up in some steamy encounters with CARINA, all while being around the bodies of their victims. This was easily a 5⭐️ read for me 💯 A dark romcom that I just couldn't get enough of. The romantic relationship, the unaliving, and the sheer lighthearted, but the darkness of the MMC and FMC was perfect! I was truly rooting for them the whole way through 😁 I just loved the whole concept, and it was a story of self-discovery and past demons coming back to haunt in more ways than one. Carina had a plan and wanted to end all the lives of the men who wronged her all those many years ago as a teenager and finally get her revenge. Is NATE the psychopath to help??? I can't wait to read more about a few other characters 😁

4.5⭐ *Thank you to the amazing Olivia Jane for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion*
Take the serial killer romance of Butcher&Blackbird, the dark humour of Lights Out and the revenge arc of Lana in The Mindf*CK Series and you have this amazingly unique story 🥰 I have been waiting on this book for what feels like the longest time, and it has not disappointed! It is very fast paced which I loved and it had just the right amount of spicy and gory scenes. Carina is so well written, she has been broken in the worst way and goes through such an emotional journey throughout the book. The way she took control of her life and learned to love was so heartbreaking and inspiring, Olivia has done and amazing job with her. Nate.. 🫠🫠 the cinnamon roll serial killer who falls for our girl instantly, this man would do anything for Carina and the way he supports her in every decision she makes and helps to upbuild her after everything she's been through makes him a definite addition to my list of book boyfriends 🥰 I can't wait for the next two books in the series!!!
I truly enjoyed reading this so much! The characters were absolutely wonderful and the story was so entertaining! Carina, a sex trafficking survivor, is in the process of murdering one of the men who bought her from her father when she meets Nate, who is there to murder the same man. Nate is the CEO of a charity organization that helps women like Carina. Nate tracks down the men behind the scenes to get justice for the victims he helps.
After Carina and Nate meet, they team up to hunt down the other men who hurt Carina. This book is 1,000% a dark romance at its core, but it also is filled with so much humor and such strong relationships. It also sheds light on the healing process following severe trauma and how love can be the strongest factor in that healing.
-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ -🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I hands down really enjoyed this book so fcking much. I laughed way too much probably more than I should’ve 😂 MFC and MMC are literally *chef’s kiss*. I also love MMC best friend and MFC friend, they are apart of this story just as much and I love that. This one though isn’t for the weak please make sure to read the TW before reading. There is A LOT going on in this book. But if you’re like me then you will absolutely enjoy this and possibly fall in love.
It was... great. Not bad, not amazing, just a cute couple killing people, I guess? The plot was lacking and all over the place at the same time. But I liked them as a couple (a bit of miscommunication but not the whole plot)
Did someone order a golden retriever–type serial killer? Because here comes Nate!
When it comes to serial killer book boyfriends, Nate is an absolute gem—devoted, dangerous, and head-over-heels for Carina. He’ll do anything for her, and honestly? We love to see it.
I didn’t see the plot twist coming, and I devoured this book in record time. Carina is a total badass FMC, and I loved every second of her journey.
This is a must-read—dark, twisted, and utterly addictive.
A dark, sharp debut that doesn’t waste time pretending to be gentle. Carina’s long-boiled rage and Nate’s obsessive devotion make for a dangerously addictive mix. The story hits hard with trauma, vengeance, and a romance that feels more like a knife’s edge than a fairy tale. Olivia Jane writes with boldness — messy emotions, morally grey choices, and zero sugarcoating.
Not for readers who want “soft.” Perfect for those who like their romance intense, unhinged, and impossible to put down.
A victim of sex trafficking and a man that delivers justice for women that have fallen victim to traffickers. While the FMC has managed to somehow escape her 6th abuser, the MMC is the CEO of a charity that helps victim of abuse. So far, so good.
Yes the background of the FMC being through some heavy trauma is dark and sad, but it’s not presented well. You get drips of it as she goes along butchering the 6 men. On her first job she meets the MMC. Which obviously was there to kill the same sad excuse of a man.
This was dark and not in a good way. They kill and make out while a dead body is in the room. Not hot at all. Also, the chemistry isn’t there for me. The humour was sometimes haha funny but often super boring. They keep texting each other hypotheticals to answer, in order to get to know each other. None of them were funny.
I gave up after 25%. I was suffering through the writing. The dark spect of this wasn’t done right. More violence doesn’t make a book more dark.

The characters are fun and in a book filled with trauma, there are lots of funny moments. I love how Nate was just instantly in awe of Carina. From the very first moment he saw her, he was willing to do anything for her. He is the most golden retriever serial killer I have ever read about. There is conflict (what romance doesn't have some?) but there was never any doubt in the reader's mind that they weren't meant to be.
I can't wait for the next books and was trying to spot the couples, I can't wait to see if I am right!
Thank you to the author for the ARC! This review was left honestly and voluntarily.
I love a good revenge story but this wasn't it. I like it when my h's are a little more prepared in their m*rders, you know? She's been plotting her revenge against her abusers for years but didn't even have the foresight to figure out how to deal with the d*ad bodies afterwards? The few chapters I read gave off Butcher & Blackbird vibes, so this might be your cuppa if you liked that one.
These two are an absolute vibe, their chemistry is insane, and definitely had me laughing out loud a couple of times! Olivia Jane got me right in the feels with this story of reclaiming power, and perfectly bloody vengeance. Definitely on my read again list 🖤
