Laura Belgrave is a long-time writer and editor whose career has taken her from the "murder and mayhem" side of the newspaper business to the editorial side of the book publishing business, and on to the business of web design, video and social media. Her staff positions have included everything from police reporter and then city editor of a major Florida daily to managing editor of a children's book publishing house, and later, award-winning skilled nursing facilities in Florida.

She also has worked on her own as a freelance writer and editor, and prior to moving into social media and related online work through www.everonwardmedia.com she provided services to numerous media clients. She abridged bestselling novels for an audio producer, wrote a pilot script and treatments for Mary Lou Retton's PBS show, "The Flip-Flop Shop," and has—in her words has—“done just about everything in between.”

Her motto? “Ever evolving.”

When she isn't working, she's drawn to anything that has to do with nature: birds, alligators, ducks . . . whatever she can observe and use to perfect her photography.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Laura now calls South Florida home, and has for more than twenty years. She is a journalism graduate of the University of South Florida and is married to a man she met when both served in the U.S. Air Force "moons ago."

After having read the first Claudia Hershey book, I was looking forward to reading this. And I wasn't disappointed. A very clever plot with so many twists and turns, coupled with a very skilled writer made for a great read. The only issue I have is that I like to read before bed for soporific purposes - but this book kept me awake long after I'd stopped reading, wondering how it would all turn out. Gahh! Thank you, Laura Belgrave for another great novel!

This is a first-rate mystery story with lots of fully-developed characters. Life is here with the serious and the humorous. I very much enjoy the absolutely wonderful phrases Belgrave throws in when I least expect it. She is just so enjoyable to read.

The second in the ongoing Claudia Hershey Mysteries, this is a who-dun-it police procedural you'll not guess the end, at all. Well-written with some exceptionally brilliant, yet easy-to-read writing, it's realistic, sometimes very frightening, especially, once you get to the end, in its possible implications to anyone's potential motives, and, yes, there are sublimely humorous spots in it, too. I guarantee that you WILL love this book!

False advertising

I got this book because of the cover which shows the eyes of a black cat. The cat featured in the story is a calico kitten . Calico cats are domestic cats with a spotted or particolored coat that is predominantly white, with patches of two other colors. FALSE ADVERTISING!

Second book a bit more comfortable than the first

Another whodunnit with Lt. Claudia Hershey and the Indian Run PD crew as Claudia tries to put possible murders to two deaths, mentor an intern, jockey a surprise visit from her ex-husband wanting their daughter for the summer and all the other stuff making life challenging. Some nice twists.

Belgrade does it again.

This is my second Hershey book and I find myself wanting more. Very well written and the characters are believable. I hope the new character "Boo" appears in future stories in the series because he is a blast.
I am now going to start the next Hershey book in the series.
Thanks for listening.

Also published in trade paperback

An old woman is dead and Detective Claudia Hershey suspects this is not just an accidental death. The problem is she can’t really explain to Chief Suggs why an investigation is needed. On top of that, she’s been saddled with the chief’s nephew, a bouncy, aggravating teen with the outlandish name of Booey who wants to try police work for a couple of weeks. As if that weren’t enough, her love life leaves a lot to be desired and her ex-husband has showed up and wants to take their daughter off to DC for the summer. Then there’s a second death and now Chief Suggs is really on her back for causing trouble.

Claudia Hershey, who relocated from Cleveland to the backwoods of Florida and can’t figure out why on earth she did such a thing, returns to delight fans of the detective who’s too tall, dresses badly, can’t control her personal life and sticks out like a sore thumb in the good-old-boy police department. Author Laura Belgrave has delivered another well-crafted mystery with marvelous character and plot development and a quality of writing that makes Quietly Dead a real pleasure to read.

Quietly Dead is a winner and a welcome addition to any mystery reader’s bookshelf.
