Ailsa doesn't like witches. It didn't help being born in Farstone, home to the legendary Witches of Farstone, though she left when she was a child. So, how come she finds herself moving into an old witch's cottage in Hatton-le-Hollow, a village on the edge of Farstone Moor? If it wasn't for the land behind Nightowl's Hide, she'd have run a mile, but she needs that for her Folk festivals, despite hostile opposition from a local farmer. Can she defeat him with the help of the very witches she rebelled against - and whom she has more in common with than she thought? Help is also found in the form of a retired schoolteacher and a small Green Witch, who fight the battle with her.. Can meeting Conall, an otherworldly and strikingly handsome man, turn her life around? And who is the Storyteller - a mystical figure who flits in and out of their lives? Join Ailsa as she steers her way through life, laughter and love - helped by friends she makes on the way, including the animal ones - Wolf, Coco, a ghost-like Barn owl and a cantankerous, fat, marmalade cat called Charm(less). Leave real life behind for a while and enjoy this feel-good story with a supernatural twist
A return to the beautiful Yorkshire moors was exactly what I needed. Susanna Scott's books provide an escape from the increasing chaos of life. Chanter's Hill continues the story of the Farstone witches from the Wildflower Witch, in the neighboring village of Hatton-le-Hollow. As always, there are quirky characters with mystical connections to the past, and an ancient cottage that ties them together. If your soul could use a time-out from the constant barrage of bad news, I highly recommend any book by Susanna Scott, including this latest one, Chanter's Hill.
