There's 'pride' and 'prejudice' in the air! She thinks he's a pompous stuffed shirt. He thinks she's too judgemental. But with an intriguing mystery to solve together, can love blossom? Lizzie Bennet, new recruit at the Little Duck Pond Café, is well used to people teasing her about her name. Actually, she rather likes the fact she shares it with one of author Jane Austen's most popular heroines. But her life is about to become complicated by a very annoying stranger . . .
Admittedly, I’ve never read anything by Jane Austen, I know, shocking right? Obviously I have heard about her and know some of her history as well as watched many adaptions of her books, especially the one with Colin Firth! Lizzie having been named after one of Jane’s characters, knows everything though and the story does pay homage to the era through an upcoming charity event as well as a thread to do with the author which I found fascinating.
I enjoyed getting to know Lizzie and her family. They haven’t had the easiest of times more recently and are trying to work their way through their grief. Lizzie is somewhat loved up with her boyfriend but along comes Dante who throws things up in the air. I loved this tall, handsome yet somewhat grumpy character and it certainly makes Lizzie’s life a lot more interesting getting to know him, although somewhat reluctantly.
The Other Lizzie Bennet was a fun read. It has the classic romance tropes and I was swept away with the history centring around Jane Austen as well as discovering more about certain characters. Lizzie is a great protagonist who takes everything in her stride. There are plenty of funny moments as well as heart-warming ones along with a few surprises in store. It was a lovely pick me up on these cold, wintery days that warmed my heart and mind. Loved it!
Book #44 in the Little Duck Pond cafe, and another wonderfully delightful story!!
Lizzie has the curse of a very famous name, but luckily she's a big Jane Austen fan so is grateful to her parents for giving her the JA bug! And as a person she is happy with her life and loving working in the cafe where she's a trusted member of the staff and community, always looking to help others and this is what sets her on a journey of discovery into the past when she's given a diary from Leonard after he has a clearout of his loft!
She's totally absorbed in the mystery of the diary of Charlotte from 1814, and I love how she throws herself into discovering more about the past - I don't think she was expecting the other things she learns about the past though!
There's always romance in these books and I loved how the love angle is approached and it just shows that when you think you know someone, think again! Once again with these books, you become smitten with the characters and the drama that unfolds just takes you in and I loved it!!
The other Lizzy Bennet was the best story so far from the duck pond cafe. It had me laughing crying and so happy all at differant times and also believing what Lizzy and Dante might have found out. Lizzy found out from Leonard that Dante was catching a train to Chawton to research what he thought had found so she rushed to sunnybrook Station to try and catch Dante up and tag along as she had the box 1st. I loved the visit to Chawton to check some things out. I would highly recommend this book to be read in the series or I think you could read it as a stand alone. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have and that I havnt put any spoilers
