As a couple are they tough enough to battle through these turbulent times and emerge stronger than ever?
A resident of London, UK, E.J. Shortall writes contemporary romantic fiction with a slant on the steamy side. Writing characters described as 'real' and 'relatable', E.J. creates stories that will draw you in a leave you wanting more.
What can I say about this book except that I adored every single page of it. There aren't many writers that can completely transport you into another world with just their words but this lady is certainly one. The story is beautifully written and I lived the it all right along with the characters. Make sure to have a huge supply of tissues, I sobbed like a baby on more than one occasion. This is a gripping, real story that echoed parts of my own life and had me nodding along and murmuring with understanding as the emotions and feelings were totally nailed. There are ups, downs and the other kind of ups and downs that make you hot and bothered!!! I feel tremendously privileged to have travelled this journey with Amber and Craig and their story will forever occupy a place in my heart. The editing was top notch and I highly recommend this book to everybody. Eagerly awaiting more from this fantastic author.
Before I read Silver Dove I reread the first book in the Silver series, Silver Lining. Why? One, because it was a while since I had read it and two, because Silver Lining is one of those books that is so good that you can read it many times and still love it. Silver Dove did not disappoint me, proving that E. J. Shorthall is not a one-hit wonder. Before I started reading this book, I decided to have a look at the playlist which is found at the end of the book and I’m glad I did. Do you look at the pretty gift wrapping before you open a present? To me, that’s exactly what the Playlist is – the pretty gift wrapping that makes you wonder what is inside. Even though Silver Lining had it emotional moments, Silver Dove definitely has more. I became quite teary more than once, but that doesn’t bother me because I don’t like to be a casual observer when I read a book, I want to be an active participant. I want to experience a character’s emotions whether those emotions are happiness, frustration, anger or sadness. This book has them all. I loved the fact that so many of the characters from Silver Lining returned, but there were also new characters to meet. Some you will love, some you will hate. Does it have a HEA? I won’t tell but I will say that there are many times when you will have a smile on your face as you read Silver Dove. I gave Silver Dove 5 sparkling, silver stars because silver stars are prettier than gold ones. Written by Karen from A Thousand Lives Book Blog
WOW, this was such an emotional book. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of the book for an honest review. I am still left with a major book hangover and it has been over 9 hours since I finished the book. I feel like maybe I should go back and read both books back to back right now as I still need more of Craig and Amber. I love how we pick up in Silver Dove right were we end in Silver Lining. Even moments after saying yes, things from Amber's past start to effect her and thanks to the love and support of Craig they are able to work through it. Then we have more family issues that hit them shortly after settling into life together and Craig has people from his past that come into play causing more drama. You will need more than a few tissues while reading this book. There were plenty of times I needed to just walk away from reading so I could shake things off as what they had going on felt very real it was easy to forget you were reading a book. There were both good and troubled times but everything in the book were things that could actually happen. Plus, their is the great support of the friends Becki and Scott. I am looking forward to hearing more about them. I am so glad to have discovered this author and am so looking forward to more books from her.
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
This is the sequel to 'Silver Lining' , a book that I enjoyed when it was released earlier in the year. I reread it before this, as having the story fresh in my mind makes the experience so much better. I would recommend that you read both books together.
What a great continuation of the story this is. Emotional, dramatic, romantic, tearful - and in a way that is believable, and flows smoothly. It is impossible to write much more without revealing spoilers - but I can promise you will not be disappointed! Craig and Amber have their share of ups and downs, and Becky and Scott are their ever present supportive friends. I would love to read more about their story, and maybe get some updates on Craig & Amber too.
Well, once again EJ has hit the mark, Silver Dove was a wonderful follow on to Silver Lining. You get to see Craig and Amber’s story unfold. You fell in love with them in Silver Lining, I didn’t think it was possible to fall even more in love with them in this book, well it is, trust me! Craig spends the whole book trying to make Amber happy and protect her from things she has no idea are happening around her. He is definitely on the top of my men I would like to keep list! They are the perfect couple, complement each other in every way, however trouble wants to get in the way of this, with letters and phone calls from some unknown person the stress begins to show. Everything goes from bad to worse when Amber is attacked, Craig swears he is going to find whoever it was and make them pay for all the damage they have done. This will definitely bring a tear to your eyes, well it did me anyway.
This is book two in the Silver Series by EJ Shortall, she knocked this one out of the park! I was so thrilled that I was able to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Overall it was a great book, you get to delve more into Amber and Craig’s relationship, and it picks up right where Silver Lining left off. Craig had proposed to Amber, but there are some apprehensions from both sides and then BAM you get hit with a plot twist! It’s not the first one in this fantastic book. I cried quite a bit, I feel so emotionally invested in this book couples relationship that when they hurt it is like I can feel it too. EJ is one of the few authors who has been able to do this to me. And while it can be exhausting I definitely thank her for this!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes angst, drama, sweet relationships, and awesome couples.
I have had the honour of reading this amazing book early and I loved every word written E.J. Shortall you have completely outdone yourself.
The story of love never runs smoothly and this is proven within the pages of this book. Every emotion is screamed from the pages entrancing you into the story. This is a fantastic conclusion to Craig and Ambers story and will keep any reader glued. There's something for everyone and tears will be shed.
I was lucky to win an Arc of this book. If I was asked what one word would describe this book it would be AMAZING! I found the book compelling and it had me on edge until the last page. The book took my breath away. All I can say is I don't think 5 stars is enough for this book. I can't wait to read other books by E J Shortall.
SILVER IS THE NEW GOLD! 5 SILVER STARS! I LOVED this book! Probably more so than Silver Lining (and even I can't believe I'm writing that!) For the first 25% Amber cried so often and I was worried this was going to be an ongoing theme (I hate weepy women) but I knew Amber had strength and I really wanted to see this come out in her. I was rewarded. With hindsight the first quarter of the book is traumatic so I suppose her tears were justified. The drama in this book was amazing, the rollercoaster Amber and Craig ride in this sequel is just... WOW! So much happens in the plot that you HAVE to keep reading. It had me gripping my Kindle and swearing at the screen. Equally it brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye, sometimes painful tears and sometimes happy tears. I felt a realism to all the 'events' in the book that kept me glued, I could relate to so much. I loved the baby theme going on in this book. So many authors seem to skip around it as nobody wants to read baby/pregnancy and hot sex in the same book?! But if the author writes it well the two can make for a hot read with the loving connection couples experience when expecting a baby, which (I feel) brings MORE loving emotion into making love. EJ Shortall wrote the two brilliantly. I'm so glad their HEA wasn't dragged out into three books (because it could have been with how much amazing story was crammed into Silver Dove) I feel a two part story kept both books 'un-put-down-able' Hats off for an amazing sequel to an amazing first instalment. I wanna award 5 gold stars but I think silver is more fitting, because why change what works so well? For me, Silver is the new Gold!
This book was provided by the author and Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock in exchange for a review.
Silver Dove continues the story of Craig and Amber, who were the main characters in Silver Lining, and picks up right where Silver Lining ended. Amber's having second thoughts over Craig's proposal, and that is only the beginning of the drama that ensues. I'm glad that Craig and Amber having a "happy for now" ending in the first book did not make everything about their lives and relationship suddenly picture perfect. They each still had their issues and went through relationship growing pains as they continued to get to know each other better. That being said, it seems like there were a lot of crazy circumstances thrown their way - as a reader, I understand that you need to suspend reality to a certain extent, but there were so many bad things that happened to the couple through the course of a year that it just seemed like overkill. There was a violent incident involving Amber about halfway through that honestly made me want to abandon the book.
Despite the extreme circumstances, the relationship between the couple played pretty realistically. There were typical ups and downs of a couple who had just moved in together, etc. We also got to see how the relationship between Becki and Scott progressed during the course of this book as well. I was hoping there would be a bit more involving Craig's sister, because I found her to be interesting.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance. I give this book three fangs.
This review may contain SPOILERS if you haven't read book #1, Silver Lining.
We pick up where we left off in book #1 and it seems that all Amber's dreams are about to come true. But is the flight of true love ever without it's turbulence?
Amber and Craig are faced with grief, love, mistrust, loss, betrayal, lust and insecurities. Can what they share overcome all the obstacles placed in their path?
It seems that despite moving forward in her life and finally opening her heart once again, her insecurities lie just beneath the surface.
Craig comes with his own fair share of baggage, which have disastrous consequences.
When their relationship is put to the test, can it survive? Who will live? Who will perish?
Book #2 is slightly different because it is written from his and her pov. I found this refreshing and great to hear the male's thinking in all this.
The characters are well thought out - even though I did want to slap some sense into Amber occasionally - and it's a quick, easy read.
Review for Silver Dove (Silver #2) by E. J. Shortall
5 out of 5 stars
What a wonderful follow up novel by this awesome new writer. This series is a must read!
Amber has finally found her Happily Ever After with Craig, or so she thinks. After their engagement, they are faced with a lost of tragedy and their lives are in turmoil.
Craig loves Amber with everything he has, but sometimes it doesn’t seem enough. He struggles to keep Amber out of her darkness.
Every time they had their lives back on track there was something else to throw a curveball at them. This story flowed beautifully and there were lots of twists and turns to keep me on my toes.
This is such a wonderful couple. I felt all their highs and lows right along with them. Craig is so dreamy and Amber is a strong person even through all her struggles.
It was a real joy to read their story. I hate that it had to come to an end!
This is book 2 in the Silver Series by E.J. Shortall and it picks up right where book 1 ends.
Craig has just proposed to Amber and she says yes but then all to quickly her fear of the past begins to set in. Will Craig be able to help Amber thru it all and just as things begin to work itself out for them will that past come back to haunt them? (Holy plot twists!!)
I will warn you now....grab those tissues!! Thru ups and downs, good times and bad will they ever get their HEA? Go one click now and find out asap!!
Amazing E.J. Shortall, absolutely amazing!! I can't wait to read more from you in the future!!
"Grief, mistrust, loss, betrayal, insecurities; they all had the power to destroy you. It was how you battled through that determined if you simply existed or survived and grew"
Wow, I am truly at a loss for words over the story of Craig and Amber. Amber is the girl who turns and runs when things get hard, and Craig is the sexy manwhore who never had any intention of settling down. Until he met her...Life between the two love birds seems to be perfect.... but nothing worth having comes easy right? This book shows what true love is and how hard you have to fight if you want to survive all of the problems that life throws your way. Well done E.J, you seriously killed it with this book! I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for the story of Becki and Scott :)
I am very grateful to EJ Shortall for giving me the opportunity of getting my hands on this sequel before it's release date. After Silver Lining, I was intrigued as to where she would take their story. What I wasn't ready for was the depth that she took us to. Craig certainly went up in my estimation in this book, as did my use of tissues. During the process of EJ writing Silver Dove, I've read it four times and four times I have cried like a baby at one particular part. If it's possible, I would say that this second book in the Silver series is actually better than Silver Lining.
This is the second book in the Silver Series. Amber had accepted Craig's proposal at the end of the first book. But, now she is having second thoughts. She loves him with all her heart but she can't go through planning another wedding. It brings back to many painful memories. Craig wants nothing more than to be married to Amber and for everyone to know that she is with him. He is scared as well after all he has had his fair share of trouble in the past. Craig will find a way to help Amber with her fears so they can get married. Things are coming back from their past and are threatening their future. Somethings also come up in the present that cause some tension for them. Craig is having his own tension at work with a secretary who refuses to take no for an answer. She is determined to have Craig but how far will she go to get what she wants? Will Craig and Amber get their happily ever after?
I love this book just as much maybe more than the first one. Just like the first it is emotional. There is danger, suspense, love, and craziness. Craig and Amber are so in love with each other and are both trying to not let their pasts ruin their chances at a happily ever after with each other. Amber has gotten so much stronger with the help of Craig but no matter how hard she tries her fears of the past repeating its self just wont go away. Craig is determined to do whatever it takes to have his future with Amber. He makes sure to constantly let her know that he isn't going anywhere and that he loves her. This book is wonderfully written and the characters are fantastic. I look forward to reading more books by EJ in the future. Book these books are must reads.
I was given this book to read in turn for an honest review!!!
Fears Amber has kept buried resurface and Craig is determined to show Amber how strong their love truly is and how committed he is to her and their relationship. As they prepare to become husband and wife tragedy strikes not once but twice, Amber is fighting to stay strong.
Craig’s dark past resurfaces with determination to tear Amber and Craig apart. Craig will stop at nothing to find out who is behind the suffering Amber has had to endure, but in doing so he creates a situation that could destroy everything.
Just when everything is perfect and they are planning to spend the rest of their lives together, life takes an unexpected twist threatening everything. When old pasts come back to haunt them and tragedy strikes will it tear apart the happy ever after they thought they would never have?
Amber and Craig’s story had a lot of twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting. Their true love was as strong as ever, but the testing times they had showed that no matter how strong your love is it can still be pushed to its limits. You love Craig even more in this book; he truly understands Amber’s doubts and fears and is willing to do whatever it takes to make their day special. At one point you see a change in Craig that will have you shouting in frustration. EJ Shortall pulls at those heart strings as you live each and every emotion along with Amber and Craig.
If you loved Silver lining and love a good contemporary romance with suspense you won’t want to miss out on the conclusion to Amber and Craig’s story in Silver Dove.
We are thrown into this book the moment that Silver Lining ended. Like 5 minutes after.
After getting through troubles in the start of their relationship, they are finally through them and want to enjoy each other. They want to get married. But life always gets in the way. Ambers fears start to rise again, but Craig shows her all she needs is love, hope and to believe in their relationship. When they think they can be finally happy, things take a turn for the worst and their love and bond is truly tested.
I loved Silver Lining and I couldn't wait to jump straight into this book. Craig and Amber are truly amazing characters, they have this bond that shines through even when they are having problems. It really was love at first sight for the both of them. This book had me in tears, happy and sad ones. I was also laughing along like they are my best friends and I was right there with them. This is a book about love, hope, trust, over coming the obstacles of life and fighting for what you believe in and what you want. It is a lovely story with the twists that you just don't see you coming. I could feel the emotions shining through these characters. For me it was like watching a movie, because everything was very well explained and the characters are very developed. It was a lovely ending they got and I am so happy that they got the HEA that they so deserved. Craig and Amber will forever be one of my most favourite couples from a book series.
Words cannot describe how I loved much this series! I stumbled upon this author by mere chance on facebook and I am so glad that I did. Shortall's genius and fast paced writing style meant that I felt every of single emotion and thought of the characters without being victim to long descriptions and pages of nothingness. I literally read both books back to back in a day non-stop! One of the best things about these books is that all the characters and events are so believable. There wasn't a single moment where I thought 'ok there is no way that could actually happen' or 'no one would react like that in this situation' instead Shortall created characters that I could empathise with and who dealt with situations as I would! I cried, laughed and shouted at this book - it has been a while that a novel affected me this much!
I loved Shortall's use of English colloquialisms -as a fellow Brit I love seeing the word 'arse' in a novel instead adopting the more universally adopted 'ass'! Also Shortall's witty English humour had me peeing myself with laughter!
This is the most heartwarming series i have read this year so far! Do not miss out on this beautiful series! It is an absolute pleasure to read!
WARNING!: after reading this series you will fall into a book coma where you cannot possibly pick up another book for at least 24 hours due instead you must bask in the perfection that is this book!
REVIEW Silver dove by EJ Shortall i loved this book, im not gonna go in to depth on what happens as im late as it is posting but i dont wanna give much away, We have rejoined Craig and Amber in there battle with a day to day relationship. Everything ended great at the end of Silver Lining with craig asking Amber to marry him which is where we finished, starting off from that point in silver dove we rejoin them from after Amber has said yes,,, then reality hits her with what Craig has just asked and she starts to panic. You from the beginning of this book wish the couples Love ride was easy and settled it is anything BUT!!!! I really enjoyed Silver Lining as the couple are so real and loveable, Silver Dove is exactly the same real love and passion, had me in tears in parts, Ej writes in raw emotion and it pours its self out on the pages. Im glad we have been given the chance to enjoy these to characters and the surrounding characters. The writing flows so well, there arent any slow points it all fits like a jigsaw and keeps you in the moment. EJ i giggle everytime i read Craig as thats my partners name :D. this story connects with me in many ways and it truly is a recommended read of 2014. A true love story with twists and turns.
Silver Dove was a phenomenal read. EJ Shortall’s second book in the Silver Linings series was even better than the first. You think Silver Linings took you on an emotional rollercoaster…..want until you read Silver Dove. There were times I was so happy for Craig and Amber and other times that I wanted to hit them up-side their heads and ask, “What were you thinking?” What can I say, Shortall’s writing has me emotionally vested in these two and I can’t wait to see where she takes Craig and Amber next? Based on her first two novels, I can guarantee it will be bumpy but in the end it will all be worth it. Shortall proves again to be remarkable author that will have you reading into the early morning hours to find out what happens next. You could probably read Silver Dove as a standalone but I would recommend after Silver Linings to enjoy the full experience. This was a prime example of what a 5 star read should be.
Well here I am again after a terrific follow up to Silver Lining...I couldn't wait to start this and really didn't want it to finish! Now let me say Amber....hmmm in the first part of the book I kinda wanted to shake her....just a little... Now Craig.....hmmm in the latter part of the book I wanted to Nut punch him....just a little...Lol no a lot! It was emotional....very emotional...it was choc full of tears...more secrets...betrayal and drama in buckets but in the midst of all this were two people desperately in love, trying to make sense of everything and striving for an often elusive HEA. There were moments of such love and adoration that I honestly had such a stupid grin on my face that my work colleagues quite frankly thought I was insane...but who cares right? It was an amazing follow up and you now have a new fan E.J Shortall and I'm only sorry that I didn't read these sooner but I will be stalking sorry following you now to see what comes next!
E.J. does it again! This book was as amazing as the first in this series! This story takes you on a rollercoaster ride with Craig and Amber through happy and sad times equally. This story in the series is just so emotional. I soared with the love that Craig and Amber share and my heart broke with all that they went through. E.J. has a way of transporting you into her story and you get completely lost in her unique characters. I love how this series has moments of angst weaving throughout and just when you think they get their happy ever after, something happens, keeping you on your toes. I can't wait to read more from this amazing authors. She is definitely one to watch out for in the future because she is going places.
I loved reading Silver Lining it was simply beautiful and had me in tears. I loved that he called her Pingu, because of the song from Christina Perry, Now every time I hear it I think of Craig and Amber and this beautiful story. But after reading Silver Dove, living the emotions that this book takes you on... I love them even MORE!!! Craig and Amber have to overcome so much to be happy, and I was right there with them tears and all. E.J as given us characters that are real in the way they handle the issues they face and the battles they overcome. I loved it... Every single sleepless minute as I read the night through. A top shelf series that is now on my favorites shelf of my kindle! 5 Stars All The WAY!!!
OMG! This was a crazy maze of ups and downs. I couldn't put this book down. Each chapter was better than the last, I had to keep reading. As Craig and Amber’s story continues, Becki and Scott's story grows. This book changes back and forth from Craig’s to Amber’s POV and gives us perspective from both sides. I enjoy this type of writing because I can better understand the characters. The trauma that both Amber and Craig go through is heartbreaking and you only hope for the best. There are many obstacles to this couples happiness and I could only hope they got through them. Though at times it seems they won’t. It is a great ending to Craig and Amber's story and I hope to see what is next for Scott and Becki.

I LOVE this author, I loved book one in this series so I was excited to read this book. It is very well written, and the storyline doesn’t disappoint. I think out of the two books this one is my favorite. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. This book had my emotions all over the place, I felt as if I was right there with the characters. Amber and Craig are two beautiful souls, their chemistry felt so real. But it wasn’t all roses and butterflies. It does have some twist and turns, it will definitely will keep you on the edge of your seat. I cannot wait for more from this fantastic author. This series is a MUST READ.
I read this a straight after Silver Lining. The story continues on and explores what happens in Craig and Ambers relationship.
After having to deal with a failed relationship, a secret marriage and an attack from an ex you would hope that Craig and Amber's relationship could now settle down. But the course of true love never runs smoothly.
At one point in the story I wasn't sure if their relationship was strong enough to survive what was happening. As much as the book is romantic and sexy it is also heartbreaking.
I was praying that the couple would find the silver lining in the clouds.
