Ozark Mountain Shifters #2

A Mate's Sacrifice

Rate this book
Vesh is a ferocious and cunning guard, and second in command of the Ozarka pack. But he didn’t get that way overnight. The cruelty was bred into him, passed along the generations on his mother’s side. His wolf side. When the alpha sends him to spy on the drifter, Trager, and his new mate, Vesh vows to make their life hell… and possibly steal the luscious Kerrigan away from a wolf who isn’t good enough for her. His plans fall to pieces when he comes face to face with the bold and lovely Braeh, who by some ironic twist of fate, is not only Kerrigan’s sister, but his mate.

It’s been four years since her sister moved to the lower 48, leaving Braeh to deal with small town Alaskan politics. And their father’s controlling ways. When things get crazy at home, she decides a visit south is just what she needs. What she finds in Missouri is a sister mated to a mythological creature, herself in the middle of a turf war fueled by revenge, and… a wolf whose sadness unlocks the portions of her soul she’d swore to never open again.

P. Jameson continues the Ozark pack in this second book "A Mate's Tale". The Alpha to the pack has some mental problems and he doesn't trust Trager since he has found his mate.

Vesh is mean, and it was bred into him by mean mother (her story is told in book). Being good at second in command at the Ozark pack, Vesh is sent to keep an eye on Trager and Kerrigan. Vesh has his mind set up that Trager isn't good enough for Kerrigan so he thinks he is going to take her from Trager and then he will get rid of Trager. He is in a bad way when he gets to Kerrigans is surprised to find Kerrigan not there and that the woman that opens the door is his mate.

It has been six years since Braeh has seen her sister. Kerrigan had left her and she had to look after their dad and his controlling ways. She is so ready to get away Alaska an its stupid politics. Braeh opens the front door and this Powerful man nearly falls in her arms so she lets him sleep it out on the couch. She figures she is safe since he say that he knows Kerrigan and Trager. He talks as though he is involved with Kerrigan and that he knows her. Braeh keeps texting her sister but no word back from her yet. The man sleeps through the night.

Not letting out any of the secrets P. has in the book. Once again you are ging to have to read it in order to find out what happens to Vesh and Braeh.

Improving we go.

I enjoyed this second book in the series much more than the first. I only gave it four stars because I got a little bit of whiplash from the way Vesh treated Breah. I understand he has a troubled past, but I think poor Breah's heart was a little too bruised. Other than that it was a good story. Easy to read with little to no errors in spelling and grammar.

I must say I like reading the books in this series, but where I am disappointed is in the endings. It is rushed and happens in about four pages then there is "THE END" at the bottom. I wished the ending was developed as much as the story.

Really liked for a shifter book! Storyline is intriguing, suspenseful and hot. More information is revealed not shown in the first book. Characters had chemistry and their interaction flowed.

When tradgey threatens a future - this is when a true battle begins! Epic love story of overcoming all for love!

Vesh & his sister horrific childhood will curl your stomach. How they can endure & survive amazing. How they move past that to grab a promising future - nothing short of a miracle! Braeh came to see her sister & learns about shifters, now that was a shock! A roller coaster is her body, mind & soul reaction to Vesh! Can these two overcome obstacles to find themselves a one true mate? V3, s2

Broken but mending

Oh the mending power of love. Poor Vesh; he thought that he wasn’t deserving of happiness but along comes feisty Breah to set him straight. This was such an emotional journey to self acceptance and worth. It was an interesting story. I’m about to read the next book in the series. Until next time y’all happy reading.

In Book 1 Tragar was kicked out of the pack and vilified because they thought his mate would reject him and he couldn't have young. Vesh was a huge jerk about it too. But this book has Vesh not wanting a mate. Which means he would have ended up like Tragar, so why was he an a$$ about it and why wouldn't he be kicked out too?

I like Braeh and Vesh's story. I wish it was longer. Not enough character development to really get to know them and love them. The issue between the 2 packs continue and I'm curious to see what happens in the other novellas.

The power of healing

Here we come to see how love heals all wounds. Through an undeniable connection this couple faces all odds. Those odds being their insecurities. They overcome it and as always a HFN with a cliffie for next book in series. Still not sure if I like that or not.

Interesting series

Book two has the tension building between the packs as one is lead by a deviant and the other by one seeking justice. The love story is of couples who find each other while seeking self and justice.

Vesh eye f’ing a female wolf and planning to screw hero my moments after kissing on and fondling his mate was so disgusting I almost puked. I can’t read anymore. Especially knowing his mate will forgive him. He’d never be allowed to touch me again.

Things are getting real. More excitement and danger, with some heavy duty twists. Will the two wolf packs actually go to war? Read to find out.

The ending on this one was definitely more satisfying than the first book. Plot clearly does not play a big role in this series, but that’s okay.

This book was even better than the first one and there is more world building to add on to what was started in book #1. I highly suggest reading the first book in the series before tackling this one though. You will enjoy this story much more and I suspect that you may feel a bit lost in this book if you don't.

On to the review. This author excels at creating lead characters that have realistic issues in their lives that need to be dealt with before they can find their HEA. I also really appreciated the way Jameson dealt with writing our hero's character flaws and what they result from. Hopefully without spoilers I would just like to say that when I was growing up we had many foster children and I also worked for Children's Aid for a number of years which gives me the ability to state with assurance that the things that happened to Vesh and his sister as children, do indeed happen in real life as I've seen the results of it myself. The way Vesh dealt with it is also very realistic and while some reviewers have stated they didn't like how he bounced back and forth, again I say that it is indeed quite reasonable. In fact I thought he dealt with things perhaps a bit better than would be possible so quickly. Of course the 'mate' bond definitely helped things along. Too bad there really isn't such a thing in real life.

Braeh is a very strong and resilient heroine. She also has some issues to deal with but nothing as life altering as having to deal with Vesh's baggage. I loved seeing them learning to deal with each other and discover their love.

I also liked seeing Kerrigan and Trager again and we got to see their relationship growing. I love the fact that Jameson doesn't have love instantly solving all of the problems so they can easily have their HEA. I wouldn't really call these books cliffhangers because the MCs definitely get their story wrapped up in such a way that you know that, with perseverance, they will get their HEA. All of them are going to have to work hard for their love though. On the other hand, the overarching series story line is definitely left in a state of tension where I really, really want to read the next story now, like RIGHT NOW!!!

I can't wait to read Cael and Isabesh's story. It is sure to be even more heart wrenching than this book was. I highly recommend this series. I hope you like it as much as I did.

This was a good follow up to A Mate's Denial. Unlike the first in the series, this is not a stand alone. The Alpha wolf Vesh has had a traumatic childhood and resists his human mate even after he finds her. Eventually, due to danger, they are thrust together. Vesh treasts his mate poorly trying to keep her at a distance. I can understand this, but I don't get why she fell in love with him so fast. He was a jerk for most of the story. The author did a good job of explaining his backstory so the reader feels for him instead of hates him, but the heroine is left in the dark.

The heroine's sister mates Trager in book 1. She never imagined she'd mate a wolf herself. I liked her strong, spunky character. I thought the plot progressed rather quickly. Also, the romance switched on and off so much it gave me a headache. There was a lot of angst in this book. Vesh goes from not feeling worthy of his mate and trying to resist their bond to accepting it and proclaiming his love rather quickly. Also, in the beginning of the story his wolf is ailing. Somehow he heals? That was never really explained.

4 1/2 Stars

A Mate's Sacrifice was a little better than A Mate's Denial, but that's only because Denial was pretty good itself. I felt that Sacrifice gave more of a backstory, which was extremely important to the plot of the book. Most of the characters' history was skipped in Denial, but it wasn't as important to the story as Vesh's story was to Sacrifice. The ongoing plot of the problems caused by the Ozarka pack adds to the danger and importance of the individual ratings in the books. I want that part of the story to hurry up and slow down at the same time. I'm hoping for a major development in the next book.

What a great story.

Vesh was second in command of the Ozarka pack and was sent to spy on Trager. He decides he wants to take his mate Kerrigan away from him and goes to her apartment. He finds Braeh her sister now he understands why he felt a connection to Kerrigan because Braeh is his mate. He was used and abused by his own mother and Braeh just reminds him of his past. He is torn about what he wants now their lives are in danger. He has been betrayed by his alpha and he is threatening his sister as well. What a great story.

She just keeps getting better

Hands down did think this was one of the best books I have read this year. And so far I've read around 175 since the year began. The dialogue was entertaining and the storyline was detailed and consistent bringing laughs and moments where you could so deeply connect with the characters it was uncanny! This was a great quick read and I recommend starting with book 1 to get the background on the other lead characters but even starting with this one you won't be disappointed!
I'm off to read the book 3.

Quick, hot read

if you've read the first book in this series, this is a continuation of sorts. different couple so technically, it can be read as a standalone but I'd recommend you read the first book first.
I liked Vesh's story. I'm glad he found his HEA.
The book is a good, quick read. The story flowed well. It had its hot, sexy moments. Nice read for a Saturday afternoon sitting on your couch.

Vesh is an asshole. I get he had a horrible past, but I felt so bad for Breah. I just wanted to shake him and be like, let her know! The end made me mad. If she hadn't told him that she knew, he would have left again. I feel like this was very rushed in the essence of the demons he had to overcome to be with her. He never gave her a chance, and that was what made me the most upset. I still liked it, I was just angry with him for not even trying.

For vesh and his sister besh life was hard. Both having to go through much turmoil that Vega believes he will never find true love because he doesn't deserve it. Braeh, Kerrigans sister is house sitting when vesh shows up to claim Kerri. Behold after seeing braeh, best starts feeling emotions and calling her his mate. This was a great read. I was getting angry than happy couldn't put down till I was done. Must read the series.

I found Mates Wish this morning........ Good thing I did not have to work today! I went on to read A Mates Denial AND A Mates Sacrifice - and cannot wait for A Mates Revenge!! Each story drew me further into the world of the sisters- former pack mates all with goals that run towards the same finish!! Very well written & I will continue to watch this writer!!

The H had been abused as a child, he tries to hide the impact, his wolf is 'sick'. So when he meets his mate, he denies her. She's human and falls in love with him very quickly. I liked that she held him accountable for his actions, not for what was done to him by others. Good if short, redemption story.

Must read

I have a great love for shifter books of all kind; you'll not be able to put it down, once you start reading it. Loved the chemistry of the main characters and cannot wait for the book.
