Collision Course: A Men's Slice of Life Romance

Rate this book
Matty Navarro is stuck in a job he hates, answering to a sociopathic boss, and dreaming of something more—a way out of the rat race and a real connection in the coldest city in Los Angeles, California.

After a chance collision, he meets Soli—a fiery, streetwise Latina with a sharp wit and a generous soul. In a moment of crisis, Matty steps up, and the spark between them is undeniable. As he introduces her to a side of LA she’s never seen, the two begin to fall fast and hard.

But Matty’s demanding job keeps pulling him back. He wants to dive in with both feet, yet something always holds him down—until Soli gets Matty to ask questions about the company he works for. What starts as doubt becomes courage, and Matty finally makes the choice to set himself free.

On the other side of burnout is something freedom, passion, and a new kind of love. Soli’s neighbor Jordan, an intuitive and creative soul, joins them on their journey—and what begins as curiosity blossoms into something deeper. Together, the three form a bond that feels like home.

Cozy Saturdays, city adventures, and quiet mornings await this newfound throuple. But paradise always comes with a can it last? Or is Matty’s California dream too good to be true?

A low-drama, high-heart relationship story for readers who want romance without the clichés—crafted with male readers in mind.

There's really two halves to this book. On the one hand, it's a pretty average example of what you'd expect from something described as a "men's slice of life romance". Male POV, contemporary setting, not a *ton* of plot going on. A particular positive is the two love interests introduced in the book. I would say one of them (the first to be introduced) is especially good, being three dimensional, well realised, has an actual personality, is relatable and likeable, etc. The second one is a notch lower, but still above average in a genre that often boils a love interest down to one or two features ("bratty cat girl", "big breasted blonde", "shy student", etc.). So well done as far as that goes.

On the other hand…

1) The book is written in first-person present tense, which I generally don't like but can be done well. (For an example of it done well, I'd recommend Reborn From the Cosmos on Scribble Hub, which uses it to portray the protagonist's chaotic stream of consciousness.) But not only is it not done well here, I'd say it's unusually poor. Dialogue is particularly painful, as the writer feels like every line needs to be come coupled with "I say" or "she says", as if the reader can't figure out what a series of quoted sentences might represent. It's painfully clunky. And then there's lines like "I pick up my keys, wallet, and stuff." And stuff, huh? (It's never a good sign when you find yourself reading passages of a book aloud to your friends so you can share a laugh about the writing...)

2) I don't know if this is an example of the writer's poorly concealed fetish or their phobia, but dear gods, there are *so many references to teeth brushing in this book*. Like, whatever you're imagining, there's more. Expect to see, and I'm really wish I was making this up, characters taking a break from sex to brush their teeth.

3) Speaking of sex, and I recognise this is very much a matter of personal taste, but I found the sex scenes in this book remarkably un-sexy. Part of it is the clunky writing and first-person present tense, combined with the neurotic need every character seems to have to brush their teeth every few minutes. But even beyond that, the sex characters have in this book just doesn't doesn't sound that enjoyable. I recognise that stories in the genre often veer into flights of fantasy where everyone is multi-orgasmic and busy having mind blowing tantric sex, culminating in simultaneous orgasms, and I actually welcome an author wanting a little more realism (refractory periods are a thing!), but this veers so hard into the other direction that I would wager the average non-virgin reader probably has a more enjoyable sex life than the poor protagonist, and that includes him having threesomes with two hot girls. Specifically the protagonist , but even beyond that, sexual encounters tend to be quick, awkward, and nobody seems to enjoy them all that much.

I don't want to be overly harsh about a new author's work, but I would recommend they find some beta readers who are comfortable giving feedback about things like "how often do normal people brush their teeth in a day" or "do orgasms feel amazing".

(And yeah, this review is a bit snarky and unfair, but I'm not kidding about the teeth brushing, the , or the general un-sexyness of the sex scenes. I also notice this book has fairly good reviews, so clearly my tastes are not universal, so…take this review with a grain of salt I guess? But I have a pretty high tolerance for B-grade wish fulfilment stories, and this was bad enough I'm not going to read the sequel.)

The story seemed pretty good but it seemed like everytime it got going they would have a meal. The MC would whip it up only after looking in the frig and listing everything in it or the cabinets. Then list all the ingredients of the meal that he fixed in 20 minutes. Man I thought I was ready a cookbook. Just a bit too much detail for me. I’m debating if I can handle two more books to see the end of their story.

the harem tag is kinda misleading. If you consider only 1 dude in the relationship as harem, then sure...but this is mainly a polycule relationship featuring 1 guy.

Beyond that, I just couldn't get into the story. I guess it's part of the "wish fulfillment" trope where an average dude has all these women interested in him, but the MC just didn't do it for me. I had a hard time caring about him or his life.

A great start!

I enjoyed this one and its characters. You get a good feeling for each of the main characters and who they are as people. The author either is from LA,spent a lot of time on google looking up locations, or is just great at making up restaurants and locations. Still this one was good read and I’m looking forward to the next book!

Great new series.

I really enjoyed this book. There aren’t many good contemporary books in the hlit genre, and this is a great one. Fun story and characters and a good mix between romance and spice. Looking forward to the next.
