Please heed all warnings. ****This is a series about captivity in a FICTIONAL and EROTICIZED setting. It contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.****

OVER 150,000 COPIES SOLD!

For the first time ever ALL the BESTSELLING BOOKS in the DARK DUET series are available in one complete set.

CAPTIVE IN THE DARK (BOOK 1):
Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

SEDUCED IN THE DARK (BOOK 2):
What is the price of redemption?
Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood.
The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it’s all coming to an end.
Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance?
Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?

EPILOGUE: THE DARK DUET (BOOK 3):
It didn’t happen exactly as Livvie said. She’s been very kind to me in the retelling of our story. The truth is far more…complicated.

This series sets the bar for the dark romance genre. It’s an enthralling escape, so seductive in its execution, all the painful, glorious details will brand every cell of your body.

Roberts shoves you stomach first into the cruel world of slavery, living the nightmare through the eyes and skin of the young and terrified captive, Livvie. Her captor must discipline and train her to perfection so she will be chosen in auction by the target of his boyhood revenge.

The training is gruesome, and Roberts powerfully projects the girl's physical and emotional pain, making it impossible not to be dragged down into a very dark and dangerous world with her. There are times when you’ll want to sympathize with her captor, Caleb, but his detachment and cruelty keeps your protectiveness at the surface.

“Once upon a time, Caleb held me captive in the dark, now he used it to seduce me.”

As Caleb continues his emotional brutality, you’ll want to curl up and die right along with Livvie. You’ll be angry, distraught, as if you’ve been punched the chest and the ugliest, most hateful bits of your soul are yanked out.

“She kisses my scars and I create new ones for her.”

Then the twist...Ahhhh! “Some stories aren't black and white.” It’s perfectly timed and ingeniously plotted, exposing Caleb in a gut-wrenching standpoint.

There are few books that could touch the anguish and passion found in this series.

What do you do when you are swamped with 14 new, amazing ARC's that need reviewing right away and at the same day, a Platinum edition of your favorite series gets released, with bonus material, fan fiction stories and new covers? Go..

Yes, you guessed it. I curled up inside my reading nook with my tablet, lots of oreos and a six pack of diet coke, and dived into Livvie and Caleb's story, again for the hundrenth time.. And it was worth it..

I had an incredible time rereading the most shocking scenes or my favorite quotes and all the new material, from Determined to Obey, the novella about Celia, Felippe and Kid, to the interviews of C. J. Roberts in various blogs.

But the brand new element that truthfully surprised me was the fan fiction stories.. Many authors hate fan fiction but C.J. is not one of them and that is really refreshing.

So, all in all. If you haven't read this series, the new edition provides a great opportunity to do so. And if you are a huge fan, like myself, the extra material is more than enough to entertaine you..

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- The new cover art is good but the original is far better.
- The fan fiction stories were interesting.
- I loved the second one in particular.
- The news about the book becoming a TV series left me both excited and terrified.

1) Captive in the dark - first read November 2012, re-read November 2014

description

5-captivating stars

It’s been two whole years since I read this the first time and it is still my point of reference for any subsequent dark-romance-erotic book that I’ve read. Caleb is the ultimate dark-anti-hero that I’ve compared other heroes to. Most are a mile away from becoming the scariest, deadliest man I’ve ever read, but some (including a recent read) have come close, but not quite there. How the author made Caleb so bad yet lovable to the reader is a true testament to her writing skills!

This first instalment was much shorter than I remembered. Either that or I devoured it even quicker than before. What I didn’t forget however was Caleb’s cruelty. He was every bit as nasty as I remember, which is no surprise considering his childhood. He is rescued from this by his mentor – Rafiq, who has his own vendetta against a Russian mob-leader. So the two have been planning their revenge over the last 12 years. A plan which involves training captive women to sell as ‘pleasure slaves’. Caleb’s current captive – Livvie or Kitten as he calls her, is very special since she will be sold to said Russian-mob-leader in order to get close to him and exact their long awaited revenge.

But even the cruel, heartless Master that is Caleb has a heart somewhere inside and he finds himself softening towards her. He is still cruel at times, but shows some care towards her, leaving her confused about her feelings as well. This doesn’t stop her from taking her chance at escape when the time presents itself. But there is no truer saying than ‘Out of the frying plan and into the fire’ when describing Livvie’s predicament when she escapes Caleb’s prison in Mexico only to find herself in even more danger.

This is where we get to see Caleb’s true colours. It turns out the way he was with Livvie was nothing to the ferocious man who systematically hunts down and destroys Livvie’s new captors. When I first read this book, I flew through these last few chapters, tripping over each scene, eager to see how this would play out, and it was no different this time round.

This is a read that will have your mind reeling, questioning your own sanity. Why do I feel this way? Should I not hate this guy? Should that really turn me on?

Yes, this is a dark, erotic and very titillating read that is a must for people who like this genre.

2) Seduced in the dark - first read November 2012, re-read November 2014

description

Another 5-thrilling stars.

The writing and format of this book was amazing! Just perfect. The switch between past (starting pretty much immediately after the first book ended) and present – some months afterwards where Livvie is now back on US soil in the custody of the FBI/psychiatric hospital. In fact, the first chapter begins with Livvie in said hospital mourning the loss of Caleb. When I first read this book, I was like, ‘what the hell?!’ I was frantic in my reading, desperate to find out what had happened after being recaptured by Caleb and the months following that lead to Livvie being absolutely heart broke.

Of course, reading this for a second time, I wasn’t as frantic so I was able to enjoy this story even more.

In the ‘present’ scenes, Livvie is being monitored by psychiatrist Dr Sloan who tries to help her come to terms with her physical and emotional state of mind. Understandably, Livvie is pissed when the doctor throws all the usual text book terms at her in order to explain her feelings for Caleb. Meanwhile, she is also being interrogated by Agent Reed who hopes to get info on Caleb and the other traffickers and intervene with the slave auction (that Livvie was supposed to attend). As a result, Livvie tells the story of what happened as a series of flash-backs, which I thought was very cleverly done.

As for the ‘past’ scenes, well Caleb is back to his true form of strict, tough, teasing Master. However there are moments where he shows his feelings for Livvie, and the back-and-fro between the two leaves her very confused. As time passes and gets closer to Rafiq’s return (and the auction), Caleb seems to harden up with his cruel ways again. This is short lived though when Caleb discovers the truth about his childhood, turning his world upside down with everything he had been lead to believe being a lie.

All this leads to yet another dramatic and intense last few chapters where the link between past and present is finally revealed. I swear, even reading for a second time, I had heart palpitations. It’s ‘On the edge of your seat’ material that won’t leave you disappointed.

3) Epilogue - first read June 2013, re-read November 2014

description

”Everything is in the process of becoming something else. It’s the law of change…..I’m in the process of becoming something else, Livvie. I hope it’s something good, far removed from the monster you knew.”

Yep, this is my favourite of the trilogy. Mainly because it is told purely from Caleb’s POV throughout, and despite him being a scary guy most of the time, he does have a dry, yet wicked sense of humour.
The ending to ‘Seduced in the dark’ was rather abrupt for me so I as so happy when this book came out 18 months ago. I loved it then, and I love it now!
What I especially liked was the fact that their HEA took time. In the months after they reunite, they both had a lot to deal with. Livvie with her emotions toward him, anger mixed with love and then topped with more anger. She’s toughened up in the year she’s spent travelling Europe after she was given back her freedom, sans Caleb. So she doesn’t just fall into Caleb’s arms, but at the same time she doesn’t make him suffer…….

”I’m not scared of you, Caleb.” She crossed her arms over her chest and tried her best to look intimidating. “I have pepper spray in my purse.”
I couldn’t help it. I burst into laughter………..”I’m sorry Livvie. I really am. You kill me. Pepper spray? I’ve tracked you all over the world and that’s what’s going to stop me – pepper spray.”

It simply takes her time to get her head around everything. Something Caleb needs to, since he is adjusting to this new feeling - guilt. add to that – he has to fit into Livvie’s world – he does seem lost. Poor man.
So the two have yet more ups and downs, involving lots of fights…..

”’You know what? How about I just quit my job?’ She spat. ‘I’ll leave school and cut my friends out of my life. Then you can have me all to yourself….you can own me. It’s what you want, isn’t it?’ I chewed my food slowly with a smile on my face…..she was trying hard not to crack under the pressure of my silence.
‘ Arent you going to f#*king respond?’
I swallowed my food and sipped from my wine glass……’You want a response, Kitten?.........’Here’s my response’ I slide my arms across the table. Our plates, glasses and silverware crashed onto the floor……. ”

But these are not violent fights. No, they end with them actually communicating with each other, which in turn helps them come to terms with it all. So they finally finally get their much deserved HEA.

I've read the first two book but enough is enough... I liked the concept of the story... I liked the dark theme but in the end of the day I wasn't hooked with it... I got bored a lot and couldn't connect with the characters... So for now I'll leave it here... I might read the rest of the series someday or not.... We'll see...

This is very hard to say, and I'm not really sure this should be said about a book that contains such dark material, but I absolutely loved this book. It was so well written and so well done that you cannot help but love it. The way CJ Roberts connected the events of what happened in the The Dark Duet with the events that are occurring in the Bonus Material, which is also known as Determined to Obey, was nothing sort of brilliant. The use of alternating POVs given in short snippets to tell the story was perfect and sheer genius.

This novella focuses on Kid, Celia and Felipe, who were secondary characters in the Dark Duet. I must say that I felt so badly for Kid, who had been wrongly accused, and was forced to suffer because of that accusation. I really did not like Felipe and Celia despite loving what they orchestrated for Caleb and Livvie. I just did not get the same feelings that got with Caleb and Livvie with them. Their treatment of Kid was repulsive to me and as far as I am concerned it did not get any better as the story went along. Felipe and Celia were awful and extremely manipulative, and I felt like Kid was just too afraid not to obey them and that all of his choices were taken away from him without him even realizing that it had been done.

Anyway, this book is a great addition to the Dark Duet and is well worth the read and allows you to discover all of the other events that were occurring at the same time as those in the Dark Duet. CJ Roberts has given us readers another great read. I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us.

I am not going to rate this or really review it. If you want to know my feelings on the books, you can find them here:

Captive in the Dark
Seduced in the Dark
Epilogue
Determined to Obey

I will say that The Dark Duet is still one of my favorite stories. One you would think I had read over a dozen times to remember the scenes, the words and the emotions but it/they were so strong that one time and one time alone for each has stayed with me. The story of Caleb and Livvie is hard to forget. I remember the day I read each story and how I felt, I get goosebumps right now remembering it all. It was and still is an amazing story to me, even if my Caleb is forever Paul Walker.

The fan fiction additions? Well, one of them is mine. I had a blast writing it and taking Caleb and Livvie to a new world but still keeping them as close as I could to who they were in The Dark Duet.

I hope readers enjoy the new content, the fan fiction and the epic and twisted love story of Caleb and his Kitten.

This review is just for the first three books and i wanted to write it as a whole but there isn't any link of just the first three so this will have to do!
The fact that this book is even getting two stars is because i felt that there was a light at the end if this dark tunnel of a book which is true because i like the third one, this book had so much stuff in it that to me is completely wrong but books are their own world, they are versatile. So i am not just going to say that i hate it but it definitely wasn't for me and that is completely okay. The thing that bugged me the most was the line between abuse and love or even care was so damn blurry that i often couldn't identify between the two. Also i knew where it was going and like most of everything else in this goddamn hypocrite world the villain was a Pakistani army officer and yes maybe i shouldn't judge the book due to this reason but i cannot let that escape my notice when i hated that tidbit more than what was going on between the couple. The second book is intriguing but again some of the things weren't acceptable to me. The political aspect of this book wasn't false. Most of the things about trafficking and the regions were true but i just felt that things about middle east were kept more in focus which led me to feel like the west was portrayed more positively even if the write didn't intend to do that or maybe did, i'm not sure.
Having said that i LOVED the characters so much, it was just the content was off putting but the writing was incredible as well. I gave book three 3.5 STARS because that was when the writing and the content as well as the characters all came together FOR ME.
Despite the above rant this as a whole got two starts only because of the fact that this is not something i will ever forget. It makes and impression for sure but unfortunately that impression left me sour through the first two books. I was so relieved when i loved the third one and that is mostly what will keep this book alive in my memory for a very long time.

Not really 'dark' at all. A touch of plausibility would greatly improve the story but I'd def. take Caleb. Please 🙏

This was a good read but I was expecting something much darker/stronger after reading the blurb and reviews. It loses a full star for being pale grey at most.
James was nice but Caleb definitely pushed all my buttons. He did what he needed to do to survive though I thought his actions after Livvie crossed the border pretty unlikely. Not including what happened at the auction in Pakistan was disappointing. A paragraph neatly wrapping everything up feels like the author is taking the easiest path. Livvie wanted Caleb to find her, to come for her, yet she stayed hidden, keeping the lowest profile possible. Why?
I'm tired of Stockholm Syndrome being used to justify feelings. Experts who've spent years involved with this sort of thing publicly state they've never known a single case - and doubt it even exists!! She was attracted to Caleb from the second she saw him and that only increased over time.
What Caleb went thru before his 'rescue' by Rafiq is the most plausible part of the book, esp. if you know anything about the reality.
Despite the fact he'd been doing it for years he did a relatively gentle, lousy job of training Kitten for Vlad and if she'd been sold to him she'd have had little chance of surviving him as a result.
I did enjoy the fantasy, just NEVER confuse it with the reality.

This is one of the best series ever ! It's dark, it's disturbing but it's so addictive !

The Platinum Edition just came out and there are some bonus material: interviews, reviews, a new hot novella and some fan fictions... and I'm not pointing out that because I wrote one of them... no no... but still, it's called Rotten Jealousy and it's a totally safe for work teeny tiny story !

Dark rooms to light

It is 3:30 in the morning and I should be asleep, but I got stuck in the epilogue by Caleb and James.

This was a wonderful book, flowing smoothly and seamlessly from one POV to another, and from one time to another. As a writer myself, I am in awe with how well she does this.

Her characters are flawless, complex and ever changing as only humans seem to be. James and Sophia's push against each other and then towards each other was a marvel to read. Her secondary characters were as realistic as her main characters. Her settings were central to the story and described in exquisite detail, adding to the dark and secretive ambiance of the plot line.

So I loved this story and would love to see this a tv show, but only if they don't ruin it. This is a new writer to me and I am on my way to find something else she has written.

P.S. I would like to know more about Janice and Matthew!!

Fantastic! One of the best DARK, captive, steamy romances I've read!

I'm thankful to the person on Fb who recommended this Platinum edition of the Dark Duet. I loved having everything together in one "book." Not only are both books of the duet in this collection so are the epilogue, great fanfic, interviews, and reviews. It really has it all!

Most importantly: the duet is fabulous! If you love DARK,  captive romance this is a grand slam! If you have any triggers or don't like dark, steamy romance you may want to read other reviews for spoilers. I don't write spoilers on the content. I love going in cold or blind or however you want to word that I like to start reading a book knowing only two things. 1) Is it a great story?  2) Does it have an HEA? Here's your one spoiler: The answer is YES to both questions!

I highly recommend this book to lovers of DARK,  captive romance with a great plot, well developed characters, and a HEA!

The FMC is kidnapped and brought to a hotel room blindfolded by her captor “Caleb” who is a sex trafficker that trains women for his boss. Around the beggining of the book he forces the terrified FMC out of her clothes so he can wash her. This scene gives me the icks and makes me feel complete rage for the fmc being touched without her consent.

I believe Caleb thinks he loves the FMC in his twisted head and we are made to feel pity for him due to his abusive past, yet the pain and suffering he brings to the fmc makes him unredeemable. Caleb degrades, humiliates and physically beats the fmc into submission.

This is your warning now that this is not a dark erotic or BDSM book. This story is solely about abuse, trafficking and hatred of women.

I do however feel like the writing was well done as the author was able to pull such strong emotions out of me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Book 1 Caleb was raised differently. Knowing the horrors of abuse and deprivation but that doesn’t stop him taking Olivia. She should be nothing more than a means to the end but there’s something about her.

Book 2 continues but starts off with her away from him. Will it help her heal or is she stuck in limbo

Book 3 is from his pov. Whilst I get he was also a victim this series wasn’t for me

One of my absolute favorites, I've read it four times to date..

I am sure it won't be my last. It is dark, sexy, sad, will keep you in the edge of your seat and at times will push your mind further than one thought possible. The main make character it ruthless but you absolutely cannot help but to love him

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

I feel the need to add this here before I even start my review since there still seems to be people out there who pick up books and not read the warning labels. Then they go on a GR/Amazon rampage because they didn’t know it was *that* type of book. (Even when there are numerous warnings in the first pages and on reviews such as this one.)

So here it goes: DO NOT READ THIS SEXY BOOK IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED OR IF YOU ARE NOT INTO M/M/F SEXUAL SITUATIONS. HOT MEN TOUCH EACH OTHER IN THIS BOOK. LOTS AND LOTS OF DELICOUS TOUCHING. THIS IS A DARK BOOK WITH DIFFICULT SUBJECTS.

With that being said, I was ecstatic when Cj told me she was expanding on Kid’s story! I wanted it yesterday. Alas, it had to yet to be written. While I waited for it, I was constantly tempted to message her every other hour and be all, “Is it ready yet? Huh, huh? Is it, Is it?”

Then one night as I was getting ready for bed, my inbox beeped with a message, and there it was, all shiny and new, batting its eyelashes at me. It was beautiful. *pets*

I’m pretty sure I shed a few tears.

Anyway, Determined to Obey was awesooooooome! Thank you, Cj for letting me beta read this hot little piece.

As with the Dark Duet, Determined to Obey is not for the faint of heart. It will make you snicker and sweat, and very uncomfortable in your nether regions. I had to put it down several times because, holy shit, I needed to breathe through the heavy blushing and panting. There were even a few times where words failed me and all that came out were squeaks. And lots of “Ohmygod, Cj” while changing into a new set of panties.

Those of you who know me, know that I’m a sucker for the anti-heroes. And no one does anti-heroes quite like Cj Roberts. Yeah, I’m probably biased, but what can I say? My love of her books is what lead to our friendship. But I do know how difficult it is to write a male character that is both ruthless and likable. With Caleb from Dark Duet, and Felipe in this case, Cj makes it look so damn easy, I hate her! (Not really, I just want know what dark gods she worships so I can erect my own temple. I, too, want the writing powers!)

I’ve read many, many, amazing anti-heroes, but hers are the real-deal bad. Not only tortured, but also on the wrong side of the law. Like, I-can’t-even-see-the-line-I’m-so-far-on-the-other-end bad. To make her men be, both, bad and likable (and by likable I really mean fuckable) is a gift. She toes that line, and pushes at your comfort level and does it spectacularly.

From his first appearance in Seduced in the Dark, I have been wildly curious about Felipe. (Yes, by that I mean I wanted in his pants.) So getting to read more about him and his relationship with Celia was an absolute treat. His developing relationship with Kid was a bonus, IMO. I think I would have crushed on Felipe even if this story was just him and Celia. They’re both such fucked-up characters, adding Kid to the mix was brilliant.

Now, it certainly wasn’t a perfect book. It had a few details that weren’t working for me. I noted them in my beta notes, and I was happy to see that Cj addressed them in the final version.

In closing I’d like to add that, I devoured this story the way I do a new box of Oreos. And just the same as with the delicious cookies, I still wanted more.

5 Stars for Determined to Obey by Cj Roberts!

(Fun note: I have a fanfiction story in the bonus material under the name Luna Quinn. Teehee.)

These books were on the dark side from what I usually read. But I do think that it was well worth finishing. Caleb in my opinion is the man you hate to love. I know it is love to hate but I believe it is the opposite way for me. Just by his actions you want to hate him but just cannot help loving him. Caleb and Kitten (Olivia) have have their own issues they are fighting but some how it just makes them perfect for each other. So much for the two to learn together. Once I read the first book I was not sure I continue when it was Kitten telling her encounters with Caleb. But as I went on I realized I could not give up. I am glad I did. For being on the darker side of romance this really was a good read.

These stories were intense, gripping, dark, brutal, edgy, and challenging. There was also much about redemption, especially in 'Captive in the Dark' and 'Seduced in the Dark'. I loved Livvie/Sophia, I was always fighting for her. The more I learnt about Caleb/James the more I finally came around to liking him and understanding him.

I really liked the way C J Roberts wrote 'Seduced In the Dark', it was a good writing style.

I liked 'Epilogue' it had a sense of playfulness and humour to it.

I wasn't so enamoured with 'Determined to Obey', just a personal thing.

This series is not for everyone, but then not everyone has to read it - like most things it is a choice.

Compelling

I have the books in this bundle separately, but I don't mind purchasing this also so I have all my guilty pleasures in one place. One new addition of interest to me is Kid's story. What a heartbreaker that one is, but I am happy he ended up free and happy with the decision he made. I love knowing what was wrong with Caleb's head when he was having sex with Celia with Kitten in the room. I wanted to kill him myself for that, but I couldn't get him out of the pages of the book, **bummer**.

Love this.

I loved this series. It definitely is a dark read, so beware. I liked that sometimes I felt uncomfortable, or when something would make me cringe. I think a really good story makes you feel lots, not just all happy and roses. I wanted to scream at Caleb sometimes, and even sometimes at Livvie, which I enjoy when I'm reading something strong and powerful. I love that she was strong, and also sometimes vulnerable, and I loved that I also got both sides from him, eventually! I loved Kid's story also, it was a nice little add on for sure!
