The Snake delves deeper into New York Times bestselling author Michael Grant's world of harsh justice. Fans of Stephen King will be mesmerized by this chilling yet deeply thought-provoking horror story. The Messenger and Mara witness a crime. Someone is dead. Someone has to pay. But when they travel back through space and time to uncover the truth, they come to learn that two people had wicked intentions. They had seen an act of revenge. In a twisted web of lust and vengeance, only Mara, as Messenger's apprentice, can decide who will play a game for redemption. Two wrongs don't make a right. . . . Only one will pay the ultimate price.
Ever since I read Messenger of Fear I've been dying to dive into that world again to feel the terror and the suspense of each game, I loved this little story, it was so descriptive, which is an aspect of the writing I loved from the first book. I just can't wait until the next in the series comes out. x
There was nothing really wrong with this book but it was basically the first book condensed into a few pages. Which I find kind of funny because when I read the first book I was thinking "this could easily be condensed into a few pages".
Not gonna' lie--I'm kinda' bitter this novella is only 29 pages. It's a chapter--just one. And it spends about 20 of those pages repeating what you already know from the first book, then about 15 words at the end of it is an introduction to the next book.
It doesn't really add to the series, other than it gives a crazy new game master appearance and a new unique game and fear combo. If you want to know that; sure, pay for this novella--but that's all your getting.
This was misnumbered on the source where I downloaded and I thought I was getting a prequel. It didn't matter, as it was predictable and managed perfectly well as a free-standing novelette (or story--I don't have the word count). Perhaps the predictable comment is unfair as the intended YA audience might lack experience to judge it so. Nicely written, as long as one has a high tolerance for gore, but nothing special
"...people are seldome consciously aware of their deepest fear. It is in the nature of most minds to avoid the worst fears, to wall them off, to ignore them and instead imagine that only more benign things can ever occur."
Too short and unncessary but a bit wonderful to see Mara in action.
Love that this mini story was written. This is such an intriguing topic, with enough variables, it could go several different directions. And they couldn't all be covered in the trilogy. Hope more short stories like this will be released to keep us updated on our Messenger and his apprentice.
A nice little half story about one murder in the life of Messenger and Mara. It was interesting, however short and not particularly detailed about either Mara or Messenger. I would have much rather had a 3rd book in the Messenger of Fear series.
I don't- I can't- sorry- what is this? It was like 10 pages. All completely useless, not giving us anything new about the characters (on a side note, I probably should have read it BEFORE I read the Tattooed Heart...oops

Not really sure how to rate a novella. It was so short to even feel something? It was basically another case Mara and The Messenger stumbled onto. A good break I guess in between the story.
