رواية تاريخية تدور أحداثها في فترة مفصلية من تاريخ المغرب عندما أرخى الاستعمار بضلاله عليه. وتحكي الرواية التي تحمل عنوان نوبة "غريبة الحسين" وهي إحدى نوبات الموسيقى الموسيقية رحلة البحث وراء شتات هذه النوبة بين مدن المغرب (تطوان-فاس) من أجل تدوينها .. مدخل إلى التاريخ من باب الموسيقى والولع والغربة

أحمد التوفيق مؤرخ وروائي مغربي، يشغل منصب وزير الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية منذ 2002.
ولد سنة 1943، بإيماريغن (الأطلس الكبير الغربي) - حاصل على إجازة في التاريخ سنة 1968، ودبلوم الدراسات العليا، سنة 1970.
عمل أستاذا بكلية الآداب من 1970 إلى 1989، ومديرا لمعهد الدراسات الإفريقية من 1989 إلى 1995، ثم محافظا للخزانة العامة للكتب والوثائق (بالرباط) من 1995 إلى اليوم.
عضو اللجنة الاستشارية لبرامج «ذاكرة العالم».
يحرر إلى جانب محمد حجي «معلمة المغرب».

عن فتاة فرنسية حالمة أحبت الشرق حتى أغرقها.. سافرت مع ابيها الى المغرب لأجل حبها.. ولأجل البحث عن الموسيقى الضائعة.. اصطدمت هي بالواقع وانتقلت من خيالاتها ونظرياتها عن الشرق الى الحقيقة.. الرواية زخمة بالمعاني.. في الموسيقى والجمال والحب والوطن والسلطة والحرية .. كل هذا في ظل الاستعمار الفرنسي للمغرب ونضال الوطنيين هناك للتحرر
أحببت شخصية كلود العذبة وأفكارها الفلسفية التي تمر بهدوء ولا تثقل عليك، احببت حبها للمعرفة والحرية.. وانفتاحها على كل جديد ... وجدت فيها مني الكثير..
لم يعجبني عمر وتصرفاته :)
لم يكن شجاعاً بما يكفي .. ومنه نسخ نراها كل يوم.. ممن يتغنّون بالحب وهم ليسوا على قدره..

"عمر أحبك، ولكنه أحب الزعامة ايضاً، ومن أحب الزعامة خاف الموت، والحب يكون ذلا ثم يكون موتاً، اما انا فلم احبك الا بعد ان شعرت اني افضل ان اموت من اجلك"
" وخاف ان يستيقظ فيه شعور قوي دفين اذا ما رحلت كلود يائسة منه، فكأنما يريد ان تنتظر إلى ما لا نهاية او عليها ان تذعن للامر الواقع، حضورها خانق وبعدها مخيف، وعليه ان يقوم بشي عملي ويضع حدا لهذا الارتباك، لكن.. ماذا؟ ماذا؟ لا يدري.. لعل الوقت يأتي بحلّ ما "
من ناحية اخرى .. ترسخ الرواية فكرة أن هناك دائماً في الأعلى من يتحكم بالأحداث.. وأن حرية الانسان مرهونة بخططهم ورغباتهم وإشاراتهم ..

"لكنها اقتنعت على الدوام بأن البحث عن الاحلام لا بد ان تضبطه حكمة، وتأسفت لكون الحاجة المادية وشعور الاكتفاء مما يحجب الأحلام، وتأسفت لكون الاحتياج البالغ والفشل في الاعتدال يدمران كل الحواجز التي تتيح الاستمتاع المتأني بالتحليقات الوجدانية المجنحة في فضاء الحلم"

حبيت فكرت الرواية وتاريخ موسيقى الألة والتنقل في المغرب والتاريخ كان نفسي يفصل اكتر الأماكن والتاريخ ويوصف اكتر رجعت من زيارة قريبة من المغرب وسحرتني بتاريخها وشوارعها كنت بدي تفاصيل اكتر ترجعني لعظمة المغرب وجمالها ما حبيت النهاية حسيت فكرة النهاية السعيدة ضيعت روحانية وجمال حبكة الرواية

This book is like no other. It’s not experimental in form or genre. It’s a pretty straightforward historical novel. By that I mean that it doesn’t rely on flashbacks, or jump back and forth in history, or explore different points of view. The story is told in the 3rd person by an omniscient narrator. But it is unique in its content, telling the story of a European woman who completes her studies in Eastern (Arabic and Persian at least) literatures in college in 1949 and then moves to Morocco. She accompanies her father who is going to conduct research on traditional music in Morocco, but she stays on after that and has her own adventures. Set in the time of the French Protectorate, Claude and her father are under constant surveillance and are alternately courted and threatened by various international parties.
I needed to read this book for 2 reasons. First Ahmed Toufiq’s writing is usually of interest to me because it often focuses on history (he is a historian, in addition to writing fiction) and women characters. His earlier novel, جارات أبي موسى/Jarat Abi Mousa/Abu Musa's Women Neighbors (1997, English translation 2006 by Roger Allen, Post-Apollo Press) recounted historical events of the 14th century. It included Shamah, a major character, as well as other minor female characters. His work also includes a Sufi element, exploring aspects of mysticism, humanism, and philosophy.
The 2nd reason I needed to read this book was its exploration of traditional music. Its main focus is the 12 nubas (scales or modes) of Andalusian music, one of which is called Gharibat al-Husayn. You can read about nubas here:

There are several explanations offered for the name of this nuba (and the title of the novel). I conducted dissertation fieldwork on Moroccan Malhun, which is sung poetry, similar in some ways to Andalusian performance traditions. Amazigh (Berber) music and poetry is also mentioned briefly.
Ahmed Toufiq has a talent for storytelling in a historical setting. The plot is clear and compelling. The characters are likeable, and I’m always impressed by Toufiq’s attempts to develop women characters. Unfortunately, I have some trouble finding any of the characters (including men) believable and relatable. They tend to over-philosophize for my taste. But there are some exciting twists and charming connections in this book.
Certainly fans of historical fiction will enjoy it. If you like writing by Reem Bassiouney, Leila Aboulela, Latifa Zayyat, Naguib Mahfouz, or Rhys Bowen you could like this. There is a love story throughout the book, but this is not simply a romance novel. The international intrigue and art history could also appeal to readers of Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code), Girl with the Pearl Earring, and Miss Garnet's Angel by Salley Vickers by Sally Vickers among others.

رواية عن فتاة فرنسية احبت مغربي ، و فضلت الالتحاق به لتصتدم بسلسلة مغامرات خبأها لها القدر.
رواية سلسلة احببت فيها التطرق الي تاريخ المغرب ، لم اظن ان النهاية ستكون بهذه الروعة.
