They used to sit atop high pillars, guarding the city from above. Until the day the king took their families hostage, and then the fire reigned down.
Hidden behind the mountains, the High Emperor of the East prepares for war, and it is left to two young heirs to prevent the coming conflict before it begins. But the prince and princess are not alone; armed with half told secrets and dubious allies, they must discover what coveted item elicited the first war, for only by discovering that secret can they prevent a second that would devastate the world. Creatures of myth become creatures of reality, the realms ready themselves for war, and Trax and Khamia set out to save their people, at the risk of losing themselves as something dark stirs within them.
This book appealed to me as I searched for key words. Epic, fantasy, dragons and dwarves. I got the first three in huge quantities and a little of the dwarves, (no pun intended). The characters are so richly written and the story line so well connected that I couldn't put it down. The Dragon side is written so well, mingling two races and evil versus not wanting to be evil. Elves are nasty but again may have some good factions, dwarves are nasty little buggers, gods are manipulative and humans are pawns. Then there are the durum. Persons able to connect with and manipulate nature in rather surprising ways. There is a cliffhanger and if a story ever begged for more, this it. Upon searching I couldn't find the next instalment, so come on Laura Green, give us more and plenty of it. Ps.. Can I be a Beta reader please?
