At fourteen, David Saunders’ father walks out of his life, leaving him to look after his mother and younger sister. Still reeling from his father’s betrayal, a devastating accident snatches away David’s mentor and the guidance he needs to grow into manhood.

With nothing but Chet, an old ’64 Chevy pickup that he doesn’t even know how to drive, David and his family must hold things together in the face of the most brutal Idaho winter to come along in the last hundred years.

About the author

Larry Murray

Born and raised in rural Idaho, Larry's childhood on the family farm was rich in work, as well as opportunities to explore the natural world. What was missing, was exposure to the broader world, lying somewhere beyond the fence line of the farm. All that changed as he learned to read on his own. Although farm life left little time for reading, stolen hours between chores, or when he was supposed to be asleep at night, were spent devouring every book he could get his hands on. If the author could describe it, Larry could imagine it, and together they traveled around the world, across the solar system, and on to the stars beyond.

Growing up in the midst of the space race and triumphant moon landing, Larry was drawn to the technical disciplines. He amassed decades of technical writing before embarking on his own adventure, writing his first novel. You can find out more about Larry and his current projects at LarryCMurray.com.

I loved this book along with book one. The author builds the characters as the story goes along. There is a wonderful amount of integrity to the story and to each character which is very, very refreshing. It's a story about hard work, overcoming lonliness, sorrow, severe obstacles, and yet full of humor, fun and happiness. It's much like true life. Of course I now have to wait until book three to find out what happens next. Hopefully that won't be long. I have come to love the charaters and I'm waiting to see how things are resolved. Without giving too much away the story takes place in the Snake River Plain in Idaho. The author has a vast knowledge of the area, dairy farming, mechanics, insurance, business, the geography of the area and quite a multitude of things including history. The book is well researched and the story has elements of magic mixed in with the realities in the lives of the characters. It's really a a lovely story and I highly recommend it.

I enjoyed the first book but I LOVED this book! The characters are amazing and the story is well thought out and written. It reminds me of my childhood and people that I have known ... All of which are amazing memories ... I can't wait for the next book to see what happens in the story and to the characters! I felt like I was living the story as I could empathize with the characters at different times throughout this book!
