Encourage young investigators to feel, listen, smell, taste, and see their way to discovery by seamlessly infusing math and science throughout the school day! As you incorporate all five senses into learning experiences, you will give little innovators the opportunity to observe and explore the world around them. The activities in Hands-On Science and Fun, Fascinating Activities for Young Children ; will help you plan engaging science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) lessons that will excite children and foster their critical thinking. Children can experience the thrill of scientific inquiry through simple experiments. Designed to work with easy-to-find materials, the Hands-On Science and Math activities are inexpensive and uncomplicated, yet they lay the groundwork for understanding more complex STEM concepts later on. All activities have been researched and tested by the author in Davis' early education science lab. Activities are appropriate for children preschool through 2nd grade and contain adaptations to vary and extend the learning for older children.
This is a really good book for early childhood teachers who are afraid of teaching science. There are many activities with extensions that follow the Texas TEKS. I like how they give a list of the materials so that the experiments are easy to put together. The instructions are very clear and the Introduction states that you can access the videos for the experiment at Gryphonhouse.com. I marked a few activities for my 2nd grade class next year but will need to add a little more rigor to them.
I loved the balloon experiment and making your own bubble solution. I work with children with severe developmental delays and can't wait to try these in September.
This is a keeper. The activities are clearly designs for a wide range of childrens ages and developemental levels so buy it, keep it, and use it to teach and learn. FUN.
