Some sparks are worth the burn. Even when you know better.
I didn’t expect the emergency call to take me to Doc Holliday’s. Didn’t expect her, either.
Gillian Holliday—sharp-tongued, impossible to ignore, and the woman I haven’t stopped thinking about since the day she left Huckleberry Creek.
Now she’s back. Temporarily, she says. Just here to help her family.
But this town is small. Too small to avoid the past. And when her world starts colliding with mine all over again—at the station, at the bar, across every damn corner of this town—I’m reminded exactly how good we were together.
And how bad it hurt when it all went sideways.
We’re older now. Wiser, maybe. But the spark? Yeah, that part’s still dangerous.
This is the second book in this impressive series, and this is Diego and Gillian’s story. After a shared summer together, Gillian left town to do what was expected of her, and now a medical emergency, has firefighter Diego at the doctors, where he finds out that she is back, but only temporary. There is nowhere in a small town to avoid each other, but can they take a chance on being together? This is a well written easy to read story, with family, friendships, emotions, opposites attract, second chances, making choices, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, small romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Gillian's back in town and the connection between her and her first (only) love, Diego, is still as strong as ever. Lest they get their hopes up, though, she's not in town forever, so no starting something they can't continue. Right? But perhaps Gillian's path is meant to change. Just because she's followed what her parents always wanted for her life, doesn't mean she has to continue to do so. Perhaps her heart really lies here, with Diego, in their hometown.
Four years ago when Gillian left, Diego was heartbroken, and has never stopped thinking about her. Now she's back, even if only temporarily, to help her grandpa, and all of Diego's feelings are boiling up. He can't help but remember how good they were, but also how much it broke him when she left for the city and her career. He knows this time she's only here to care for her grandpa, and has to get back to her real life and he still can't keep himself from her. He's definitely going to end up with a broken heart again...or is he? Gillian just may surprise him as she finds where her heart really lies.
I love this second chance journey. Gillian had to come back to find out her true path, where her heart really was. And she found Diego was still there just waiting for her to bring her heart back to him. Huckleberry Creek is filled with small town charm, lovable residents, and this sweet couple who got the happy ever after they so deserved. I can't wait for more Hot Shots to fall in love now.

This is the second in this Hot Shots of Huckleberry Creek Series and it did not disappoint. An emotional second chance story for Gillian and Diego.

*4 stars* Even though it was a short read, I really enjoyed the story and the relationship between the lead characters Diego & Gillian but also how it progressed throughout the book. I also loved the sassiness of Gillian and how the author portrayed her as a woman that showed strength. It was a lovely, sweet and enjoyable read. I'm excited to see what comes next in this series.
Gillian comes back into town to help her grandfather out at the bar but still has so much to do for her work, even though she's on vacation. A lot is going on in her life and it seems that everything is just too much. When a small tragedy strikes, she sees the man again that she left a few years ago and it seems that time never really passed as there's still a spark between them. They reconnect but Gillian doesn't really know what to do when she finally gets the opportunity she's been waiting for. After re-evaluating everything, she'll have to make a choice where her future really lies. Will they have another chance together?...
Second Chance Spark by Kait Flynn, book two in the Hot Shots of Huckleberry Creek series, is a fast paced, emotional, second chance novel. Gillian and Diego once meant something to each other; then she broke both of their hearts, leaving for Chicago. Four years later she is a hard working lawyer and he is putting out fires one at a time. When Gillian makes it back to Huckleberry Creek to visit her beloved grandfather and help out at his beloved bar, she gets more than she is ever expecting. The last thing Diego expects is to see Gillian back in Huckleberry Creek; she’s the one who got away. Gillian and Diego are thrown for a loop, since the attraction and chemistry has not waned during their time apart; then her grandfather has a health crisis. Gillian takes over running the bar while her grandfather’s bar while he is recovering while also dealing with demands from her boss; working remotely. The law firm might be in Chicago and have supposedly given her vacation time, but their demands along with those in running the bar are overwhelming her. Diego can't help but be there for her as she struggles to keep her grandfather's bar open while still working remotely. Gillian knows she will have to choose again: Diego or her career; needing to decide which will make her feel whole.
This is an enjoyable quick read that is about family expectations, being your true self and everything in between. Getting your second chance with the one person you are meant to be with, and finally figuring it all out. This was a fun, quick read, with wonderful characters, the residents of Huckleberry Creek, and everything in between. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Second Chance Spark is firefighter Diego and Gillian Holiday’s second chance romance. It’s book two in the Hot Shots of Huckleberry Creek and it was a story I quickly became invested in and there was no putting down until the final word was read. The last person Diego ever expected back in Huckleberry Creek is Gillian the woman who broke his heart. Problem is it was only his heart that was broken when she left for Chicago four years ago. Gillian is back in town to help her grandfather out with the family bar but when her grandfather suffers a health crisis she knows her life is about to chance and it’s not long before she reconnects with the love of her life, Diego. So will this time around be any different for this couple…….. This is a well written, heartwarming and at times heartbreaking story. I loved everything about it from the characters to the love that follows through this book.
This is a cute small town romance with low angst and the heart warming HEA you need. There is nothing unexpected in this second chance story between Diego and Gillian but its nicely written. Its the perfect book to read between heavier or darker books, with great feeling and a pretty light hearted, warm tone.
Gillian is a lawyer in Chicago, following her parents expectations, after having left small town Huckleberry with the grandfather she adores and her true love Diego, years ago. When she returns, for what is only supposed to be a few weeks, Gillian and Diego reunite and have to figure out if they can make it work when Gillian has worked her whole life to get the career she has now. They tumble through old hurts, and a heavy dose of others expectations. Its low angst, easy to read and delightful.
The story has laughs, secrets, and second chances.
If you have not read the below they are part of this series if you want to read those books(s) first One Night Flame: A firefighter bachelor auction single mom one night stand small town romance (Hot Shots of Huckleberry Creek Book 1)
This is Gillian and Diego’s story. This is a new author to me, and I enjoyed this story and want to go back and read the first one. Gillian was needed back in town to help her family out. Diego and Gillian have history, but it is not all good, after all they are not together but could this be the shot at a second chance at the forever they both wanted in the past? Can they make a relationship work when she was only supposed to be coming back for a short time?
Diego and Gillian fell in love and believed they had a future together, but things explode and Gillian leaves to live her life. Gillian has been doing what she needs to do but misses home. When she's called back to help family, she's reminded why she shouldn't have left. One thing is for sure, though—Diego might be the biggest regret she ever had. Diego has been doing well, living his life, protecting the town, and looking ahead. However, when a call comes in and he faces the one woman he loved, he's not sure he can let her go again. Now, the pieces are falling into place, and the truth is about to come out. And when it does, oh boy, look out because Gillian is about to have her heyday. I loved her character and her spunk. But when the dust settles, will she stay?
5 Star Review Second Chance Spark (Hot Shots of Huckleberry Creek #2) by Kait Flynn
I couldn’t wait to dive into Second Chance Spark which was well written with characters whose story I quickly became invested in.
This is Gillian Holliday and firefighter Diego’s second chance at love story.
The last thing Diego expects is to see Gillian back in Huckleberry Creek, she’s the one who got away. From the moment they reconnect under emotional and traumatic circumstances he knows he has never really gotten over her leaving.
What follows is an emotional story that kept my attention from the first chapter to the last.
I was completely hooked from the first page and didn't want to put it down.
I love all the characters from this series and seeing them reappear in the story just pulls me into the story even more. This book is about Diego and Gillian, they got together one summer four years ago but Gillian left to attend law school. But she's back to take care of her grandfather.
The spark is still there when Gillian and Diego meet again, but Diego doesn't want to get involved if she's just heading back to the city.
The found family vibe in this series is so sweet and heartwarming, you can't help but love all the characters.
I loved Diego and Gillian’s second-chance romance. I was enthralled from page one and couldn’t put this book down until I finished. Ms Flynn has a talent for pulling the reader in, writing characters that are easy to connect with and cheer on to their HEA.
I loved watching Gillian fight and resolve the dilemma she faced, and Diego’s steadfast support and love. He made me swoon several times with his enduring love for Gillian. I’m looking forward the next book in the Hot Shots of Huckleberry Creek series.
Gillian has finally made it back to Huckleberry Creek to visit her beloved grandfather, but she sees the ex she ghosted several years ago. Both Gillian and Diego are thrown into a tailspin over that, but then her grandfather has a health crisis. Diego can't help but be there for her as she struggles to keep her grandfather's bar open while still working remotely. Gillian knows she will have to choose again: Diego or her career?
I love second chance romances and this was a brilliant one. Right from the start I was rooting for Gillian and Diego to give in to the lingering (and obvious) attraction between them.
I enjoyed the small glimpses into their past as well, and I loved how Diego’s fellow colleagues could tell how affected he was by Gillian’s reappearance.
This was a wonderful addition to the Huckleberry Creek series, and I look forward to future books based in this small, welcoming town.
As a big fan of Kait Nolan, I was all about reading Kait Flynn as soon as I found out about here. I have a few books to still play catch up on, but I didn't wait to read this newest release. I love the real characters and settings. This could be a couple you know from the 'good old days' growing up in any small town. I just loved how relatable. I also liked the length. It's nice to not have to devote so much time to bigger books, but to still get a complete story.
While short in pages, Second Chance Spark was filled with a wonderful story and engaging characters. This small town romance features Gillian and Diego, former lovers who's relationship did not end up on a high note, but it didn't take long for them to find each other again, when she's back in town for a visit. It was a delicious little nugget to read on a lazy summer day. Kait Flynn is always one of my favorite one-click authors! 4.5 stars
absolutely obsessed with the writing style in this book. The dialogue and banter is so fun and well done. A short and sweet second chance, small town romance is sometimes exactly what you need!!! As a career server/ bartender, this one gets bonus points for the big city lawyer ending up back in the small town bar lol
Diego and Gillian had a summer romance for years ago until law school took her away from Huckleberry Creek and him. Now she's back for a visit. Will it be a short time or forever?
This is my first series by Kait. I read them out of order....did not matter. I love her feel good stories. Life is hard. I love feel good stories. It provides a nice escape.
4.5…This series is sooo darn cute! This book was the perfect addition to this series. Gillian and Diego once meant something to each other…then she broke both of their hearts. Four years later she is a hard working lawyer and he is putting out fires one at a time. When Gillian comes to town to see her grandfather and hang out at his beloved bar..she gets more than she is ever expecting. This is a quick read that I truly enjoyed. This is a well told story about family expectations, being your true self and everything in between. Getting your second chance with the one person you are meant to be with…and finally figuring it all out! This series is just soo much fun and I can’t wait to see what this author brings us next!!
Absolutely obsessed with the writing style in this book. The dialogue and banter is so fun and well done and the imagery is perfect. A short and sweet second chance, small town romance is sometimes exactly what you need!!! As a career server/ bartender, this one also gets bonus points for the big city lawyer ending up back in the small town bar. lol-By Megan
A great medium spice and quick read! Gillian is a big city attorney who has followed the path her parents wanted her to. When she visits her grandfather and hometown everything changes. Diego is scared to let her back in to his heart even though she never really left it, but he's willing to finally put it all out there. I absolutely love that Gillian finally puts her foot down when it comes to her parents and their ways. She put a stop to their bullying of her grandfather. The only thing I found a little obnoxious was the telling of the firefighter crew nicknames. 4 stars- Elizabeth
This book is the first book of Kait Flynn I read and yes, I knew that Kait Flynn is a pseudonym of Kait Nolan which I also can't deny that it is a main reason why I decided to read the book.
Anyway, I found that the story she created with the pseudonym is a little bit different from her usual self. Of course, I still could feel a sizzling chemistry between two main characters and the small town vibe made me think of Nolan's Wishful series and Misfit Inn series. It had a perfect amount of angsty and drama but had less spicy scenes than many romance books I prefer to read (I love those scenes because I kind of live through them, LOL.) BUT I still found it very captivating, heartwarming, and refreshing. And now I'm regret that I missed a few of Kait Flynn's books!
