Banishing vengeful spirits from the mortal realm is Holly’s day job, but she’s never had to ghost anyone before – until Callum breaks her heart, making her wish she could exorcise her ex from her life.
It’s been two years since professional ghost-whisperer Holly Daniels ghosted Callum Jefferies – successful paranormal podcast host, unsuccessful boyfriend. So when he reaches out asking for her help investigating the infamous East Mill haunted house, Holly is hesitant to get involved, despite his infuriating charm. But the house in question calls to her, and she can’t resist.
When they arrive in East Mill – and take up adjoining rooms at a rundown bed and breakfast – something in the air stirs up old feelings. If only the local ghosts would give Holly some peace and quiet to work out what those feelings are…
As their investigation unfolds, Holly and Callum unearth a string of mysterious deaths linked to the house – one of which is bound up with East Mill’s very own seventeenth-century witch trials. But Callum is hiding something, and as disturbing details emerge about the family who once occupied the house, Holly realises she will have to put her life – and her psychic powers – on the line if she and Callum are going to get out of East Mill alive.

GHOSTED, her new paranormal romance, will be released on September 30.
Well this was disappointing. Honestly the premise sounded great: ghost whisperer teams up with paranormal podcaster to investigate and clear a famous haunted house. Only the family that hired them are acting suspicious and things aren’t going to plan.
It started off pretty well and I did enjoy bits of the mystery surrounding the house and the family but most of the book was spent researching the house and family from the locals and the village museum. They didn’t even step foot in the house until about 70%, which seemed odd given how quickly and easily Holly dealt with spirits early in the book.
The biggest flaw of this book was our heroine, Holly - the ghost whisperer of the pair. She was frankly awful. She was one of those people that sees herself as the victim in every situation despite the fact that she’s often rude and jumps to conclusions. She explains this away as being bad with people and sensitive due to being bullied and ostracised for her ability to see ghosts, but she doesn’t really take any responsibility for how her own actions are impacting others.
She also frequently bemoans that she’s good with the dead but not the living. But i didn’t see any evidence that she was good with the dead - she was shockingly callous towards them. At one point someone asks if she thinks she’s sending them to Heaven and she says she hasn’t thought about it because she doesn’t care, they just don’t belong here anymore. Frankly, i would be having an existential crisis about whether i was helping them or sending them to unending torment. One of her clients actually expresses disappointment that Holly got rid of the ghost in her house when she finds out who it is and Holly doesn’t feel anything about this.
This is also a second chance romance and yet it still had a third act breakup. The initial falling out was kind of weak but i did understand it given Holly’s insecurities but the third act breakup was what made me want to throw the book across the room because Holly was the asshole in my opinion yet poor Callum was the one that grovelled and Holly didn’t even acknowledge that what she did was wrong let alone apologise. By the end of the book i hated her with a passion and thought that Callum deserved way better.
I was really looking forward to Ghosted, as the premise of a ghost whisperer and a paranormal investigator/podcaster sounded really good.
And it was at first, but then Holly started. Holly, always blaming everyone else, always playing the victim, always shutting down the conversations to get things sorted.
It got very tiring, very quickly (and I did consider DNFing because of it,but I persevered).
And her attitude to the "dead" was just horrible. When she says she is bad with people but good with the dead? No, love. You are appalling to the dead as well.
Callum got me through to the end of this one. I liked him right away. I liked how he kept trying with Holly (whilst I was yelling at him to run, run away fast!).
I was disappointed with this one, as I have really enjoyed the other Amy Hutton books I have read previously.
Oh well, I look forward to what she brings us next.
Ghosted by Amy Hutton Thank you to Amy Hutton and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this ARC.
This was an easy 5-star read for me! Ghosted had me hooked from the very first page right through to the end. It’s the perfect blend of cute, spooky, heartwarming, and suspenseful. I especially loved the story between Callum and Holly; though I’ll keep the details to myself so you can enjoy discovering it for yourself.
The plot twist towards the end completely caught me off guard, and I loved every second of it! This is the perfect read to curl up with for the upcoming spooky season, and I can’t recommend it enough.
Make sure to pre-order your copy before its release on September 30, 2025 you won’t want to miss this one!
Second chance romance with a side of spook. This story was so much fun and had me guessing the whole time.
Holly's job is to help restless spirits move on, they don't like her and she doesn't like them but she tries to help them anyway. Oh, and she ghosted Callum two years prior.
Meanwhile Callum, who runs a paranormal podcast has been tasked with investigating a haunting at East Mill, Long Island. He drags Holly with him and those old feelings start to surface. Cue the banter and yearning 😈
I was surprised but how much I enjoyed the spooky storyline though (I'm such a scaredy cat) but the creepy old house, suspicious side characters, and the story centering around the 17th Century Witch trials was really cool!
Will definitely keep it on my re-read list for spooky season 👻
If you are looking for a spooky, cute, mysterious, funny & exciting read then ✋🏼 look no further...THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!!
I was obsessed with this book from the get go. It genuinely hooked me immediately. Amy nailed the mix of the romance, banter & tension with all the spooky, mysterious & supernatural elements. They blended SO well together & I was so invested in the romance AND the haunted house plot.
The supernatural elements & the mystery added so much to this story and it is the kind of book that you can read in one sitting because it just keeps you invested.
I LOVED Holly & Callum!! Such a well written relationship. I felt the tension, the dramaaa & the connection. I was rooting so hard for them!! 🥹
I really loved both their stories, this book just kept surprising me with little twists & tidbits &&& honestly THE PERFECT read for the spooky season!!
This was an underwhelming read for me. The premise had potential, but the execution fell flat. The constant miscommunication didn’t create tension or depth — it just dragged the story out and made sections feel repetitive. After a while, it felt like the characters were going in circles rather than developing or moving the plot forward.
The storyline itself was pretty average, and I kept waiting for a moment that would really hook me or shift the pace, but it never came. There were a few sweet moments, but not enough to carry the rest of the book.
ghosting someone and actually working with ghosts is genuinely so funny. 3.5 rounded up.
The overarching mystery plot was remarkably unsettling at times which was awesome, and I really enjoyed Amy as a character. George the ghost was so cute and I wish we had more, why was that so wholesome lol.
I did feel like the relationship was a little underdeveloped emotionally however as it relies a lot of them doing the relationship building in the past, and wish there was more tension - especially after 2 years apart, I feel like their resolution came about super quickly for people that were hurting.
Thanks netgalley and simon & schuster for the arc!
This is one of those books that looks like a cute autumn romcom on the outside… and then suddenly you’re knee-deep in ghosts, creaking floorboards, and a house that definitely has Opinions.
Holly sees ghosts. Callum talks about ghosts. Naturally, someone throws them into a haunted house together and says “figure it out.” The romance is there, but it’s more like a slow simmer happening in the background while the haunted house plot takes the wheel. Honestly? That worked for me.
Tropes: 👻 Haunted house 💞 Slow burn 🎙️ Paranormal podcast MMC x ghost whisperer FMC 🌫️ Small town secrets 🗝️ Unfinished business 🏚️ Forced proximity (investigation edition)
The strongest part of the book is the atmosphere. The haunted house sections are compelling, and there’s enough mystery to keep you turning pages just to figure out what’s going on behind the walls and whispers. The pacing is slower at the beginning , a lot of discussion and setup before we actually get into the core of the story. And the intimate scene near the end felt out of place to me. It didn’t add much, and I think the ending would have landed cleaner without it.
Overall, it’s a solid, easy read with a good amount of spooky tension, a softer romantic thread, and a mystery that holds your attention. The banter is also an absolute highlight. I’d reach for it if you want something seasonal and atmospheric that doesn’t get too heavy.
Ghosted by Amy Hutton just dropped in time for spooky season and OBVIOUSLY I had it on pre-order because we know I can’t resist a little paranormal chaos. Read this one as a buddy read with the gorgeous bestie (love you, boo 💀📚) and oh boy, what a ride.
We’ve got Holly Daniels, a medium-slash-ghost destroyer? who’s basically got “haunted but hot girl energy.” She’s out here seeing ghosts, chanting Latin, slinging holy water, and holding prayer beads like it’s a full-time job. Well for her it is Then we meet Callam Jefferies, who runs a very successful paranormal podcast and looks like he just strolled out of my dream journal charming, flirty, a little too smooth for his own good.
Out of nowhere, Mr. Podcast sends a text: “Got a job. Need your help.” And bam we’re thrown into what I’d describe as Ghost Whisperer meets Ghostbusters meets Supernatural but make it a little awkward, and a lot of fun.
Now, I’ll be real with you yes, there are plot holes big enough for a baby poltergeist to crawl through.. I am sad I picked up on it Yes, the grammar gremlins were doing a few backflips in there. And YES, the dreaded miscommunication trope reared its ugly little head.. not even once but like three times
BUT and this is a big but I still had a good time! The plot twist? I clocked it around page 150, but I didnt even mind. The story was still spooky, charming, and full of ghostly goodness.
The side characters? ICONIC. Those little old ladies spilling tea and town gossip like they were born for it? Absolute queens.
The writing style was super easy to devour great descriptions, good pacing (except for a tiny drag in the middle), and the spooky vibes were on point. What I really loved though was that the story focused more on the ghosts and the witch trials instead of forcing the romance down our throats. The chemistry was a slow simmer the romance was a subplot, not the main course, and honestly? That felt refreshing.
And listen… that spice scene? Could’ve been cut. 1.5 pages.. we genuinely didn’t need it. The story slapped harder without it.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely if you want something spooky, light, and a little ghostly to ease you into Halloween season. 👻
This is the perfect read for the spooky season, and I flew through it! I'm not normally the biggest paranormal reader, but as soon as I saw Amy Hutton had written this book I had to request it. I really loved Love From Scratch, and I enjoy the characters she writes. They're all relatable, witty and so loveable, and Holly and Callum were no exception.
I thought Holly's vulnerabilities and insecurities were realistic, if the tiniest bit irritating at times. The tension and the chemistry that she had with Callum was well done, and they both developed so well as characters as the story went on. The spirits and the paranormal aspect of the story was spooky enough to deter me from reading at night while home alone, but still light enough that the romance storyline still had centre stage.
I really enjoyed this one! If you're a romance reader, definitely check it out 🙂
Thank you so much to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I went into this thinking it was a cutesy Halloween romance, but it was a lot spookier than I expected! The romance was more of a subplot, with the main plot being the haunted house & the spirits inside. I did enjoy this element, and there was enough mystery to keep me going and wanting to find out what the hell was going on in that house. I do think it took too long to get into the house though. Like how much ‘research’ can the characters really do before going inside? I also thought the smut scene right at the end was really random and felt unnecessary. The ending would have been stronger with it left out. Overall, the writing style was easy to read and bingeable. I’d rec this book for a palette cleaner during spooky season.
I loved Callum and Holly's relationship and how he accepted her for all of her quirky traits but she was equally as patient. We didn't know if Callum was a good guy or a bad guy until late in the book, so I enjoyed the suspense of this part. When they finally started to communicate properly it was a relief! Jason was a great side character, offered us a glimpse into Callum's personal side which was really nice.
I did find the pacing a bit slow but still definitely enjoyed it!
Thank you to Simon & Schuster & NetGalley for the gifted copy.

Amy Hutton was in her element when she wrote this book! I devoured this so quickly and I loved Holly and Callum. This book had me on the edge of my seat and I loved the paranormal elements of this read. Definitely a perfect read for the spooky season.
I loved this book! Aesthetically the sprayed edges of ghosts caught my attention but the story was actually great too. I hoped for a twist at the end that didn’t happen but honestly it’s ok because I still really enjoyed the characters and plot!
If you grew up swooning over Dean and Sam Winchester in Supernatural, then you’ll feel right at home within the pages of Ghosted. Amy effortlessly intertwines the eerie vibes of ghost hunting with a heartfelt second-chance romance, making it a must-read for your spooky season TBR.
I remember chatting with Amy back in early February at an author event about her work in progress. She instantly lit up as she told me about a story then titled "Haunted Hearts." From one spooky girl to another, I was sold within the first 30 seconds! “Take my money,” I said. 👻 Now, here we are, seven months later and just look at those sprayed edges! 😍
Ghosted is so much more than just a spooky romance. It's dark and chilling, but also emotionally charged, blurring the line between external and internal hauntings, illustrating how unresolved trauma, whether supernatural or personal, needs to be addressed before it can be laid to rest. Holly and Callum are both deeply flawed and complex characters, each struggling with a deep-seated fear of never being enough, but showing it in very different ways. Holly shuts out the world to protect herself, while Callum deflects through charm and flirtation.
What lingers most, though, is the atmosphere. East Mill isn’t just a one-dimensional haunted house setting, it’s a character in its own right. Steeped in the weight of witch trials, the house breathes with menace and memory, amplifying every flicker of tension between Holly and Callum.
I am a fan of Amy's earlier works, but Ghosted is a brilliant testament to the power of never giving up on something you believe is meant to be. Paranormal romance is clearly Amy’s sweet spot, and I can’t help but selfishly hope she continues to explore this genre or even delves into horror in general! 👻
Thanks to the team at @atriabooksaus for approving my early copy on Netgalley.
Congratulations @amyhuttonauthor, I can't wait to celebrate the launch of Ghosted tomorrow at Harry Harthog Mosman. .
I adored this book! It was giving cute and cosy but also dark and spooky, I was totally hooked!
The mystery of the house was enthralling. The history, the connections, and the twists had me on edge. The slow burn filled me with butterflies, and I thoroughly enjoyed the back and fourth banter.
❤️ Holly was definitely no freak, just totally misunderstood. She was a brave badass who faced things the everyday person would run and hide from with absolute confidence! LOVED her!
🌹 Callum the "im not a flirt" flirt was giving alterior motives vibes, but at the same time, I was swooning. The support and acceptance he showed Holly and instilling positivity to embrace who she is was giving 100% top book boyfriend vibes!
Special shout out to George!
Even though I was predicting parts of the final moments of this book, it was still captivating and sent shivers down my spine! The character growth was powerful, the story had emotional depth, and the mystery was unwavering.
If you enjoy second chances at love, ghost stories, and mystery, this book will be a perfect read for you during the upcoming spooky season! 👻
Thank you Amy Hutton, Simon and Schuster & Netgalley for this arc opportunity! 🫶🏻
When @amyhuttonauthor first announced her next novel I knew it was right up my alley, not to mention how STUNNING the cover and sprayed edges are. I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of Ghosted on @netgalley from @atriabooksaus @simonschusterau and immediately devoured it.
You have Hutton’s signature romance with a spooky paranormal, second chance, slow burn romance with a joining door. Holly is strong, independent and unapologetically herself while Cal was charming. The twists and turns had me flipping pages right until the end. The perfect Spooky read, perfect for Halloween.
Holly Daniels has made a career out of sending restless spirits to the other side, but nothing prepared her for the challenge of ghosting Callum Jefferies. Two years later, the paranormal podcast host and ex boyfriend shows up asking for her help with the notorious East Mill haunted house. Reluctant but intrigued, Holly can’t ignore the pull of the case, or the old feelings that resurface the moment they’re stuck in neighbouring rooms at a creaky bed and breakfast.
As their investigation deepens, strange activity inside the house reveals a chilling history of unexplained deaths tied to seventeenth century witch trials. But the danger isn’t only from the past. Callum is keeping secrets, and Holly must decide whether she can trust him while uncovering truths that could cost her not just her heart, but her life.
This was a nice easy, fun, spooky, romantic read. Giving it a solid 3.5 stars ⭐️
I loved the supernatural element to this I thought it was really interesting and carried the story really well, I wish there was a tiny bit more romance, the slow burn was nice but felt like it was missing a bit of emotion at times, it did catch up at the end however.
I really liked the characters, I would have preferred a little more backstory especially in regards to Holly’s power and the origins of Holly and Callum etc but overall it was enjoyable to read reminds me a bit of Rosie Danan’s “Do Your Worst” and Sarah Adlers “Happy Medium” so if you enjoyed those, you’ll like this.
This would be a good Halloween read, curled up with a hot chocolate and your candy of choice.
You will like this if you like —
👻 Spooky stuff 🧛🏻♀️ Mythology, lore and legend 💙 Second chance romance 👻 Misunderstanding tropes 🧛🏻♀️ Haunted house settings 💙 Slow burn romance 👻 Flirty banter
I'm honestly in my paranormal/supernatural era and Ghosted ticked all the boxes for a paranormal read. I've been rewatching Supernatural and the Winchester vibes were on point with this one.
Holly is a professional ghost-whisperer and helps banish ghosts from peoples lives. Callum is a paranormal podcast host and the two have a past that had Holly literally ghosting him. Callum reaches out to ask for Holly's assistance with an infamous haunted house and despite her initial reluctance, the pay day is too good to turn down.
Ghosted had a great balance of paranormal to romance. It will hook you from the first page and is spooky yet cute. I like my spooky reads to be fun, not horrifying, and Ghosted delivered on the cute spook factor. The ghosts present in the story were a blend of troubled souls and calmer souls...special mention to George. I absolutely loved the mystery in this one.
This is a perfect read for the spooky season.
Thank you to Atria Books Australia for gifting me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I’d like to thank the publisher for this NetGalley ARC!
Holly and Callum… where to start!
What an incredibly cute and spooky read, it was genuinely perfect for this time of the year. Whilst Holly could occasionally grate on my nerves, the relationship really helped me to like the both of them in a larger capacity, and just enjoy the book in a larger capacity. The tension was juicy and really captured my attention, even with my own issues with the characters, and I love when a relationship is written well and it allows me to *almost* forget about everything else.
I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. It was concise and clear to the point, and weirdly scratched an itch I didn’t know I had. Even if I didn’t like the premise of the book I’d feel compelled to comment on the writing style, because I did truly enjoy it so much.
I really recommend this book for this spooky season!
I was fully expecting a cute rom-com based on the cover, but this was actually quite the creepy story! Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed this read — I just wasn’t prepared for all the suspense and those eerie little moments that caught me off guard.
The paranormal mystery element kept things fresh and engaging. Each character comes with their own secrets and a healthy dose of emotional baggage, which added great depth to the story. The romance itself was a slow burn with some really good tension between Holly and Callum that had me rooting for them.
The plot twist also caught me off guard a bit, which I loved — it made the story even more unpredictable and fun to read. The ending definitely feels like it’s setting up for a sequel, and I’ll be first in line to grab it if/when it comes out.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!
