Dropping out of college, Sven answers an ad on ThievesList and his whole world shifts to a new reality and he’s battling danger and his destiny to find his true calling and love in this riveting erotic paranormal romance.
The characters are strong, compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning in this fast paced and smooth flowing romance that is full of suspense, excitement and magic. Madeline is searching for her lifemate and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as she puts him through dangerous tests and teaches him discipline with some hot and steamy sex.
There is never a dull moment as Madeline introduces Sven to a magical world that he had no idea existed and danger comes calling when someone takes offense to something they acquired. The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and the well orchestrated suspense, excitement and the intriguing plot draws the reader deeper into the story.
This romance is a quick, entertaining read with a fairytale feel and some interesting elements that I couldn’t put down until I had read every last word, although I did feel that the time line was a little off.

This was a disappointment. The story was missing a LOT of details! The woman acts like the Domme, to her help. But when the sex scene happens, he takes control.
Also, there is no setup. The scene starts with him bound standing naked. She gives him a few hits and she's done. Then on to the sex.
The whole story was weak. And rushed.

When Madame Madeline places an ad for an apprentice, she is hoping that her life mate will show up. She needs to find the right person who is strong enough to handle the life changing events that are bound to happen when her and her mate are finally together.
Upon seeing the ad College student, Sven, wonders if he can really be an apprentice to a professional thief. With the job market looking bleak, students loans building up and the promise of valuable experience, the job was an easy choice and he quickly sent his cover letter and resume.
When they met, it was easy for Sven to see what she meant in her ad by "must be disciplined". She radiated dominance and he was too happy to see where this might lead. He was drawn to her and she to him. And then the magic and fireworks start.
Review: This was a very good, fast paced, action packed read. I enjoyed this book and the thrills and magic that I encountered as I followed the main characters. It was well written and easy to get caught up in the story of Sven. I say Sven because Madame Madeline knew what was coming and was hoping for a mate strong enough to handle the magic and danger coming their way. Great read that I easily recommend.

I just finished The Thief & His Master. This is a short story only 72 pages. Sometimes I love that because I need a quick read and this book fit the bill. This book is different from most of the books that I have read and I loved it. I look forward to reading more from Louisa Bacio and her Beyond Fairytales series.

The Thief and his Master is a short sweet thrill ride. Sven needs to pay bills and Madeline needs an apprentice but they are both looking for more and that’s what they get. Sven discovers a world filled with magic and Madeline finds that she can’t control everything especially her heart. I heartily recommend this escape.
