I will never recover from these books. They will live rent free in my heart and soul everyday for the rest of my life! I read book 1 The Secrets That They Keep last year(2024) in sept/oct, and not a day has went by that I have not thought about it since. Just finished this book, we up all night(literally) the night before, reading it, and up til 3am finishing it last night. This duology will forever be my Roman Empire. My heart will never be the same! I cldnt wait to get the happish ending but yet, I’m not ready to let these characters go. I need them to keep living forver lol. Alyx Beck has my heart and will always be a part of me. I have never read a book that I connected with like this in my life! Alyx is a real life She-Ra! The Sex trafficking in this country and many others is very alarming, it’s everywhere. The things that Alyx and Felix, all of them really is heart breaking! TM Lore wrote these books in such a way that allowed you to feel the emotions and trials they had to go through. I absolutely hate Fitzroy and Quentin, and all the “kings” and “uncles” I hate them all. I can’t say too much I do not want to give spoilers esp if you haven’t read book 1 yet. But you will be invested as much as I am in these books, they horrific things they went through, just to survive, and Alyx was doing it all to protect her autistic brother after their parents died. It was just the 2 of them and she had to keep playing the part to keep them both and all the other innocent people alive, and that included having to kill off people herself. What even more heartbreaking is the children that were sucked into a life that they had no idea was bad. They had been groomed since they were very very young. I’m rambling so I will shut up now, just go read these books!! Start with The Secrets That They Keep. You have to read book 1 first!!!

It's been a while since I gave a 5 star rating. The Lies That They Tell is one of the most intense books I have read. And I suggest not reading it while it's storming. Because lighting and thunder hit and my book went flying. With all the twists and turns, it had chills going through me.
This does pick up where The Secrets That They Keep left off. Surrounded by hate, trials, and enemies. Alyx goes through hell and back to protect the people she loves. Through all the struggles, self-worth, and danger, she holds her head up hi. Being the Queen does not mean she's safe.
I highly recommend reading the Alyx Beck duology. But be prepared for an intense, heart-stopping, dark, psychological thriller. And please check your triggers.

5⭐️ / 5🌶️
Picking up seamlessly where Book One, The Secrets That They Keep, leaves off, L.M. Lore returns with a gripping and unapologetically dark sequel: The Lies That They Tell.
This installment delves even deeper into provocative, emotionally charged territory, blending psychological suspense, high-stakes trauma, and MATURE, EXPLICIT content with razor-sharp precision.

As with the first book, readers are STRONGLY encouraged to review the TRIGGER WARNINGS before diving in. L.M Lore tackles highly sensitive subjects—including sacrifice, kidnapping, grooming, drug abuse, sexual exploitation, cannibalism, involuntary cannibalism, torture, murder, breeding, abortion, and human trafficking—with unflinching honesty and bold narrative courage!! These topics are handled graphically yet thoughtfully, offering not just shock, but depth and emotional weight.

Alyx ascends to her new role as Queen, but with the crown comes a brutal cost. As threats close in and danger multiplies, she must rely on her instincts, sharp wit, and the unwavering loyalty of Felix and Ruby to keep her loved ones alive. In a world where trust is rare and betrayal is deadly, survival is no longer a choice—it’s a battle.

Despite the harrowing content, The Lies That They Tell is ultimately a story of survival, self-discovery, and raw personal empowerment. Written with a bold, progressive voice, LM Lore crafts a compelling plot that’s as thought-provoking as it is intense, leaving readers both shaken and inspired.

Perfect for readers who seek gritty, emotionally complex narratives, this book is ideal for fans of Haunting and Hunting Adeline —where trauma, psychological tension, and dark romance collide with fierce feminist resilience.

This sequel was everything I knew it would be! It follows up Alyx's story as she continues to try and protect her brother Trent as well as Corwin and his daughter Becca, who've been taking care of Trent in her absence. With everything Alyx has been through, it continues as she settles into her new role as Queen. With her new role comes new challenges, as she navigates her unwanted pregnancy drama, the Kings guards and eyes are always watching, as she tries to find a way out of trouble. She's got new responsibilities, new surprises, assignments, and just when she thinks she's got things under control, Fitzroy shows her why he's always in charge. Putting her through hell, through new tests to test her loyalty, even down to her taking lives one way or another. The only person she has on her side is Felix, her trusty guard, who helps her when no one else will. As things unravel and unwanted truths come out about Alyx helping the FBI, and her baby dilemma, she's put to test yet again to save the ones she loves. She must survive and escape hell on earth, she's their only hope of safety. While enduring the worst imaginable, things finally turn on their heads in their favor. With the help of a new ally, the FBI, and pure desperation, a miracle happens to give them all hope for the future. Will they get justice? Will they get their happiness and safe place? You won't put down this book until the end! Obsessed with this duet and love the autism, political, and the abused representation it touches on. Definitely one that stands for the survivors and has a message to spread. A duet I'll cherish and will reread! It will definitely hold a spot in my heart!

... What to Expect ...
Dark psychological Thriller, dark read, grooming, abuse, kidnapping, autism representation, forced sex, human trafficking, sacrifice, death, torture, breeding, violence, captivity, branding, manipulation, betrayal, desperation, survival, bodyguard romance vibes, carving, abortion, cannibalism, undercover, trials, plot twists, witness protection, therapy, and more!

This book is very well written. Could not stop. The author keeps you on the edge of your seat as she takes you back into the life of Alyx Beck. The Lies That They Tell starts off where The Secrets That They Keep ended. I enjoyed the book thoroughly and the satisfaction of the end is top notch. T.M. Lore left no stones unturned in this action packed conclusion. It was written gracefully, leaving me filled with hope.

Alyx is back in this dark and twisted thriller as everything she despises playing the role of Queen while she tries to save as many people as she can even if it k¡lls her, but what will happen if the King finds her brother before she succeeds her mission? How far is she willing to go to save him and those she holds closest to her heart?

This book seriously gave me chills as a survivor myself, the way T.M. has managed to capture Alyx's story and brought it fully to life for those of us reading is just incredible, a true masterpiece of both not only the horrors Alyx has faced but her strength and survival throughout her journey 😍💜

First things first, this isn’t a standalone. Read The Secrets That They Keep first, as this sequel picks up right where it left off, with Alyx facing the fallout and dangerous aftermath.

Secondly, and I cannot stress this enough, this story is not for the faint of heart. Please read the trigger warnings before diving in. Because, just like the first book, it confronts dark and taboo subjects: gr0om!ng, human tr@ff!ck!ng (from a very young age), psychological manipulation, s@crifice, k!dn@pping, dru9 @buse, s3xual expl0itati0n, c@nnibal!sm (including involuntary), t0rture, murd3r, bre3di!ng, and @bortion. It’s intense and heavy, so please be mentally and emotionally prepared for the intensity of this story.

Author T.M. Lore, as I mentioned in my review of The Secrets That They Keep, has a remarkable ability to handle these brutal themes with sensitivity and stark honesty. Her writing draws you into the pain and resilience of her characters, while keeping every detail purposeful and impactful. She doesn’t shy away from darkness, yet balances it with the emotional depth and human connection that make her stories unforgettable.

⛔️‼️ 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐓 ‼️⛔️

Now onto Alyx herself. I admired her as a fierce protagonist in the first book, but this sequel pushes her even further, forging her into something unbreakable. Dragged deeper into the world of tr@ffick!ng under her so-called “King,” she doesn’t break, she hardens & embodies resilience. Forced into the heartbreaking role of “queen,” a position that offers no guarantee of her own safety, Alyx shoulders impossible responsibilities: training new victims, maintaining a dangerous façade, & secretly working with the FBI. Every choice risks everything, from protecting her autistic brother to safeguarding innocent lives, even when survival demands branding flesh or taking lives. Her journey is haunting and brutal, yet threaded with moments of deep emotional connection that make her strength unforgettable.

This book plunges into true-world horrors, and at times it’s almost too shocking to believe, which underscores the reality that these atrocities truly happen. The parts rooted in reality are devastating and immersive. However, the last few chapters, from the car chase onwards, drift into improbable territory, which undercuts some of the impact for me. For example, the car chase feels more like a high-octane movie scene than a real-life rescue, and in reality, the FBI would not have flown the children back to the scene, they would have remained at the safe location where the chase ended. Similarly, adults rescued from a trafficking ring, like Alyx and Felix, would likely be separated from each other and the children for safety, protective services, and investigative reasons. Even children rescued alongside their caregivers would not remain in the care of adults who were trafficked with them; foster care or secure protective custody would be the norm, at least temporarily, to ensure proper care and prevent complications.

Despite the dark and disturbing subject matter, and the somewhat unrealistic chapters toward the end, this book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It’s gripping and raw, with every page compelling me to read more. The story introduces a blossoming love that adds a beautiful emotional layer, and each chapter builds on the last, keeping the tension high. The duet wraps up perfectly, delivering an intense, emotional, and heartwarming conclusion. Sensitive topics are handled thoughtfully, making the story difficult but deeply moving and ultimately satisfying. I especially loved seeing Becca, another survivor, alongside Alyx, possibly finding love with Trent, Alyx’s brother. It would be amazing to see their story explored further.

this duology!

First, a huge thank you to TM Lore for a gifted copy of this book.

Now, if you read the first book, The Secrets That They Keep and thought it was wild… it gets wilder.
All I can think right now is how much of a bada$$ Alyx is. She is stuck in her situation along with all of the other victims but she knows she has to play her part to get things set right. Being Queen may give her a little bit of power but not the kind she needs. She still suffers. The things she endures in her efforts to save her loved ones is intense. I was a little worried there for a second that we’d see some Stockholm Syndrome but she’s just that strong at playing her role to stay in the King’s “good” graces.
This is dark. And it has spicy scenes but it is not romantic at all. We do get a bit of a satisfying ending but the overall story will continue with other side characters as the main characters. I am looking forward to getting into the next part!
I truly think this will be on the list of books that will live rent free in the back of my mind. TM Lore has done an amazing job with this story. It had me in a chokehold and I didn’t want to put it down!

This book picks up right where "The Secrets That They Keep" ended. Wow! This is so very well written! T.M. Lore really places the reader in the moral dilemmas that Alyx must navigate, where there are often no "good" solutions! The book could have been finished at the end of chapter 5 but continues to a much more powerful and impactful resolution in the next 10 pages!

Please check your triggers! These are not put there for fun. This book does not play and deals with very powerful topics.

Trigger Warnings: Most of these are in detail, please review before you read:

The gore in this book was insane, but i did love it. I don't know what much to say about this because it was so good, at one point over 70% in the book i went into goodreads and just started reading the reviews to see if there will be a happy ending or if i'd have to come back to the ending later because i just count not take it( but in a book thats good).
I cannot wait for other books this author will release, i am so fricking excited for them.
You know there are types of books that make you feel things like something is happening (like stabbing or someone getting hit) and you feel it on your own skin? yeah i had that a LOT with this book so be aware of that.
Over all a perfect second book in a series, do not reccomend reading this before the first book, but i do reccomend reading them both in order. haha this was an insane book.

If book one is a rude awakening, book two is the trial by fire.

This book is a heartbreaking and healing conclusion to this duology. Parts of this book were just as hard, if not harder to read than the scenes in book 1, but much like book 1, every page, every paragraph, every sentence was carefully chosen to give us a story like no other.

A confronting and intense read depicting dark, real-world issues. Definitely pay attention to the content warnings – this story doesn’t shy away from heavy themes, and it’s far from a light, cosy tale. Even so, the protagonist’s strength and resilience shine through, making her a compelling and inspiring character. A powerful addition to the series – make sure you read the previous book first – and I’m keen to see what comes next. Thanks, Carmen.

This is the second book in the duology. So go read the first one before this book! But be aware of your triggers before reading this.

Alyx continues on her path! She is now queen and Estelle isn’t in the picture anymore. She goes back to the city wither her king after the escaped the police, but that’s all they see on the news is that the island was discovered. So they need to be careful, but that’s doesn’t stop the king. Business needs to continue. So beside her king they are getting ready for the sale and obeying everything she is told. But what the king doesn’t know is she is still trying to save every one! So as she has to place everyone with the right color bracelet she is plotting out to save everyone and they just got new girls in. But the king starts to suspect something is up….

Alyx has grown even more in this book! And the way she protects the people that she cares about! T.M. Lore has such an amazing writing style and I’m so blessed to be apart of her street team!

T.M. Lore did such a fantastic job!!!
After reading #1, I knew she would continue pulling out really strong emotions. #1 was extremely intense and this one certainly proved to be the same way. DEFINITELY make sure you check TWs before starting this book.
When you first meet Alyx, she is leading a life she believes is normal. Certain events start opening her eyes and make her realize that couldn't be further from the truth. Now she is working hard to help bring down this twisted empire from the inside out, with the help of the FBI.
It certainly makes things extremely d@ngerous for her. One wrong move could expose everything she is working towards with her FBI allies. Not only could she face extreme consequences at the hands of the people that have controlled her for years, but it could result in a domino effect and undo everything she's done to protect the others.
I was rooting for Alyx the entire time. She is such a strong person and trying her hardest to make things right. Even when curve balls are still being thrown at her and trying to shatter her spirit. She doesn't stop trying.
Not even when major characters like Fitzroy and Simmers tried their hardest to break her. She just kept going.
I will say that a lot of these characters she dealt with on the daily had me feeling a lot of emotions: disgust, rage, utter shock. The darkness within them always had me shivering!
While a lot of the book is intense, I did enjoy later scenes a lot. Not only has Alyx's eyes been opened and she's working to fix what she can, but she also realizes what she really wants to do with the rest of her life. Her goals are downright admirable.
I think T.M. Lore found a fantastic way to wrap up this duology. The ending had me extremely happy!
I can't wait to see what she does next!!

Amazing job, T.M.!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (5/5)

Another 5 star read.
The Lies That They Tell by T.M. Lore is a gripping, unflinching sequel to The Secrets That They Keep, and it absolutely does not hold back. Picking up right where the first book left off, this dark psychological thriller pulls you even deeper into Alyx’s world! A world where power, trauma, and justice collide.

In this sequel, Alyx rises to power, becoming a queen not just in title but in action. Her partnership with the FBI to take down a sex trafficking and grooming ring is intense, emotional, and deeply personal. The book bravely tackles themes of forced sex, abortion, and psychological manipulation, and it’s written with raw honesty that makes it hard to look away, even when you want to.

This is not an easy read, but it’s a must read. I couldn’t put it down. Every chapter had me holding my breath, and the emotional weight of Alyx’s journey stayed with me long after I finished.

⚠️ Trigger warnings are a must-read before diving in. This book explores some very heavy themes that may be distressing to some readers.

If you like your thrillers dark, smart, and emotionally charged, The Lies That They Tell is a must-read. Another amazing book again.

The Lies That They Tell is the sequel to the book The Secrets That They Tell, and this story follows Alyx as she navigates the aftermath of the first book’s events. Even though there is constant danger that surrounds her, Alyx’s character develops into that of a fierce protector, relying on her sharp instincts and courage in order to safeguard her brother and those closest to her. This thrilling continuation certainly kept me hooked, and I truly appreciated how the story wrapped up. The ending felt like the perfect resolution, which I felt was everything that Alyx endured and fought for. If you enjoyed the first book, you will certainly love this one even more! I would recommend this book to any reader who loves great character development, unexpected twists, and a FMC who fights for survival, is a protector, and refuses to back down.

Writing books like this are difficult, especially when so much of it comes from experiences not only from myself, but from others, too. I worked hard on this duology and wanted to make sure there was a light shone on this world.
There are many triggers for certain, all listed at the beginning of the book, so please read those for your mental health, because your mental health matters most. but please know I wrote this book as a way to heal, and to let other's voices be heard, too.

All my love, I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do.

I had the great pleasure of Arc reading this amazing book. I read the first one not to long ago and this one did not disappoint.

I won't share any spoilers but the twists in this read had my heart racing and so many questions I couldn't put it down.

I'm hoping there will be some character spin offs following this.

I would recommend this book but will say there are some triggers. This is all detailed before you get into the story.

This is a book about resilience! What happens when you’re forced to make lemonade from the lemons life gives you. I enjoyed reading this second part of Alyx’s story. It was dark and heavy so be sure to check triggers, but it was adventurous and kept me wanting to turn the pages. She’s a fighter and did what she had to do for those around her to survive.
