Storm Tide #2

Echoes of the Sea: A Storm Tide Romance

Rate this book
A modern-day London actor is hurled back to 1803, where a love that defies the centuries awaits.

For Kipling Summerfield, the glamour of Hollywood is becoming a distant memory. After losing the role of a lifetime, he’s forced to take a lesser job as a historical reenactor on England’s Guilford Island. But a sudden storm changes everything, casting him into the ocean—and into the care of a mysterious lighthouse keeper.

Kip assumes the island’s immersive historical setting is part of an elaborate performance, though the method actors are too convincing, the details too vivid—almost like they believe they are in 1803. But then he meets Miss Amelia Archibald, a determined and captivating woman whose quiet strength is more than just acting, and it makes him question everything he believes about Guilford.

Amelia has spent her life as an unimportant poor relation and is now trapped by her late grandfather’s will on an island she loathes because of her great fear of the sea, forced to restore the crumbling estate there to claim her inheritance or lose it all and her freedom to her uncle if she fails. When Kip stumbles into her world, his strange ideas and warm presence are both a disruption and an unexpected light.

As Kip and Amelia work to save Guilford Island, an undeniable connection blooms between them. But when Kip uncovers the truth about where—or when—he is, he must make an impossible rise to meet the expectations of Amelia’s world and build a life worthy of her station or walk away from the love that has redefined his very existence.

"You make it sound very simple."
"And you make it sound overly complicated."
"Which part of this doesn't feel complicated to you?"

Time travel, romance that spans time, a race against the clock—and so much more!

One moment, he’s a struggling actor in modern London. The next, Kipling Summerfield is pulled into 1803, where Amelia Archibald’s courage and compassion spark a connection that defies centuries. Together, they face choices that could change everything—past, present, and future.

This is one of my all-time favorite Sarah M. Eden books. It checked every box, surprised me, delighted me, and I was absolutely here for it. The love story between Kip and Amelia was genuine and pure in every way possible, making it a complete joy to read.

What made this shine even more were the layered elements:
💙 Found family vibes
🛠️ A Mr. Fix-it
🌊 A heroine who is stronger than she knows
⏳ A time-twisting adventure with impossible choices

Sarah M. Eden delivered a historical romance that was both sweeping and deeply personal, mixing tension, tenderness, and timeless love. Echoes of the Sea is historical fiction at its absolute best.

100% recommend!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Content/Trigger Notes: orphan, unkind family members, romance—kisses only.

4.75 stars!

This is the second book in the series. I really enjoyed it! I loved the fact that Kipling was an actor in modern day London. He was supposed to be up for a part but then the sea took him back to 1803. Of course he doesn’t realize he has time travelled and thinks every one is playacting very accurately, and seriously. So he plays along. Amelia who lives in 1803, is set to receive an inheritance from her grandfather but is not allowed to step one foot off of the island in order to get it.
This was a really fun story. I really liked that Kipling was so oblivious that he had time travelled. I loved his confusion to why everyone would not stop “acting”. I felt bad for Amelia, how could her grandfather do that to her. She is terrified of the sea. I liked Amelia and Kipling together. They were such a great couple. I loved how much he wanted to help her with her situation, especially after finding out it was real and not acting. I also liked the lighthouse keeper and his family. Overall a great continuation to the series and I definitely recommend!

This was another beautiful and perfect time travel from @sarah_m_eden 😍 It took me a little bit to get used to Kip, but I ended up really liking him. It was a perfect slow burn, but a sweet friends to lovers with immediate devotion to Amelia. 🩷 I only lowered half a start because I felt like the story was a little slow in certain places, but still picked back up and ended very well.

I loved seeing the differences in Kip and Amelia, from their different backgrounds. Their connection still felt so natural, like they were always meant for each other. 🩷

I'm so excited to see what time travel Sarah writes next! I definitely highly recommend this one. 🥰

"Echoes of the Sea" by Sarah Eden is the second book in the “Storm Tide” series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Ms. Eden pens a beautiful time-travel romance! "Echoes of the Sea" is easy to read and I was immediately drawn into this gentle story. I adored the subtle humor that is sprinkled throughout. Kip, who is a modern-day actor from London, gets swept away to another time, when he meets Amelia. Amelia is from 1803, and I love that she has a disability, but does not let that stop her. The main characters, Kip and Amelia, are so endearing and their love story is so precious. Kip understands and really sees Amelia. I loved seeing them work together to save Amelia’s inheritance. Along the way, they make friends with the people of Guilford Island where the story is set, and I love that the characters become like family to them. Kip must reckon with whether he wants to try to stay in 1803 and he is also trying to not change the future with any of his actions. While Amelia did not like Guilford Island and the sea, I absolutely adored the setting of the book! Ms. Eden writes an austere, stormy, and picturesque setting of a coastal island that is vulnerable to being cut off from the mainland by rough seas for weeks at a time. There are lighthouses, storm swept seas and wind tossed waves that made my sea loving heart happy! I recommend this sweet story to readers of clean historical romance and time-travel!

Content: I give this book a low PG rating. Some examples of the content are: mention of hauntings and spirits; orphan; PTSD; survivor’s guilt; grief and loss.
TW: orphan; PTSD; survivor’s guilt; grief and loss.

This was a cute read! I’m a sucker for time slip novels, so the premise definitely pulled me in. I’ll be honest—book one is still my favorite in the series, and I had a harder time really clicking with the characters this time around. That said, the storyline kept me intrigued, and I genuinely wanted to see how it all played out. The ending, in particular, totally made the book for me. It was satisfying in the best way.

I also really appreciated that it was a closed-door romance. It’s sweet, clean, and something I’d feel totally comfortable recommending to teens or anyone who likes their romance a little more subtle. Overall, it was a fun read with a unique twist, and even if it didn’t top the first for me, I’m glad I stuck with it!

Very fun and engaging time-skip romance. I loved how Amelia and Kip were so perfect for each other. The really saw and understood what the other was going through.

The villagers were awesome in their support and care for Amelia and Kip. I especially enjoyed Smudge and Aunt Finch.

It was fun to see how long it took for Kip to realize that he had actually traveled back in time and that the people were not just really good actors who never broke character.

This is a sweet, clean, slow burn love story that will have you believing in magic.

A delightful and beautiful story about two people struggling to survive in their worlds. They hope for something better but both feel stuck and as if there is no way out of their circumstances but the worst possible outcome.

I loved the initial introduction of both Amelia and Kip, the hook that had me emotionally connected and concerned for them. And it just that connection just kept increasing throughout the book. Especially when our two main characters meet and start interacting and becoming more involved and invested in each other's plights.

The setting at Guilford Island was very captivating. Alluring and yet had me feeling nervous for the isolation and Amelia's fear of the sea. But I loved it all. I loved the friendships that were developed. I love the protectiveness people had of Amelia. I loved the "call to arms" by Kip to the villagers. I loved the camaraderie between all of the characters...well almost all of the characters! Haha! Some will surprise and some will show up just like you'd expect!

And the sweet romance between Amelia and Kip...it had me swooning and sighing! *Heart Eyes* It really was so beautiful! Even with the uncertainty of Kip having time traveled and trying to understand where he was at and what was happening, as well as trying to come to terms with what his situation now entailed. I loved it all!!! And I'm really excited and hoping for more to come in this Storm Tide Romance series!!!

Content: Clean. Time travel. Talk of orphans and loss of parents. Some kisses but nothing further.

I received a copy from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I just love a book that grabs me with the first sentence and first page - especially if it makes me laugh. This book did just that, and had me texting the line to my bestie to share the amusement. She'll have to read the book herself to see where it went from there. 😉

In this second installment of the Storm Tide series by Sarah M. Eden, we meet Kiplinger Summerfield (stupendous character name, in my opinion), a modern-day American and recently out-of-work actor. He has been residing in London for many years, and working on a period drama TV series. As he struggles to find a new role among the fickle world of acting, his wonderful best friend helps line him up with a job that will allow him to use his acting skills, despite the rather humbling step-down of the position. He is on his way to Guilford Island to work as a historical reenactor when a storm lands him in the Tides of Time, where he is then rescued by the lighthouse keeper on Guilford Island. The only problem? He is now in the year 1803!

Amelia Archibald, orphaned at a young age and taken in by her aunt and uncle, has a debilitating fear of the ocean. Even the sound of the waves is enough to disquiet her. While her uncle and aunt are good to her, her grandfather is a cruel, wretched man. He is already dead at the beginning of the story, but his despicableness reaches beyond the grave, as he does everything possible to prevent her from receiving her rightful inheritance. He cannot outright refuse it to her, but he does his best to prevent her access to it by placing demands in his will that will make it nearly impossible for her to fulfill the tasks required for receiving her inheritence.

Kip takes an inordinate amount of time to realize he is no longer in the modern day and is not just on an island that really sticks to historical accuracy for the sake of the reenactment. Normally, such obtuseness would wear on me, but because he truly thought everyone was acting, it actually made for quite an amusing thread. He and Amelia form a friendship, and then more, as they work together to help restore the estate and try to meet the demands of her grandfather's will, while also thwarting a greedy man who wants her to fail so that he can get his own hands on her inheritence.

I enjoyed this book so much! As always, Eden's writing is impeccable, and she weaves drama, laughter, and emotion into every aspect. Unlike the first novel in this series, there was only one jump. (I hope that doesn't count as a spoiler!) Because the previous book had multiple, I was never quite sure what was going to happen at the end of this one. I also liked the fact that while this is a series, every single character is brand new. Captain Travers is mentioned, but never actually makes an appearance. So the only recurring "character" is the Tides of Time! This is exciting, because it means there are SO many ways each book can go, and each one will be fresh and new!

I love the ending of this book! I had convinced myself that it was going to go a different way, but was happy to find out I was wrong. I will be eagerly awaiting more installments of this series! Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for advanced access to this gem. All opinions are my own, and I was not required to leave a positive review.

Echoes of the Sea was such a fun addition to the Storm Tide Romance series. Unlike going forward in time like Lili in The Tides of Time, Kip is sent back in time. I kept waiting to see what Kip’s reaction would be when he realized that he wasn’t in a historical reenactment but actually in 1803 and how he dealt with it. After being treated poorly most of her life, I was happy to see that Amelia had the hope for positive changes in her life. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next in the series! This is a voluntary review after receiving an advanced copy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Kipling gives this story life, and the unique way that the author uses historical reenacting is brilliant. Kip manages to time travel but without knowing it. A good part of the book has the main hero totally clueless as to what has happened-and for the plot it works! Amelia is determined to do her best no matter what life throws at her and I really admire her character. The romance, while predictable, is simple and sweet. There are a few twists and turns that I was not expecting but I really couldn't put the book down. There are some pieces that seemed rushed and a little thrown together, especially at the end. Overall this is a quick read with a unique take on time travel. This is my favorite of the series so far.

4.5 Stars.

A very enjoyable read. I found it to have a very different tone than The Tides of Time, but not in a bad way. Where Tides of Time felt serious and somber at times, Echoes of the Sea has a touch of the absurd and ridiculous. Some readers may find that off putting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It still has the mystery and romance one would expect. I look forward to seeing what else the tides of time do in coming books.

Echoes of the Sea is book two in the A Storm Tide Romance series. Time-travel tales always pull me in, and this one hit every mark I love. How do they travel?A fierce storm at sea, with green lightning, sends unknowing people hurtling through time.

Kipling Summerfield is an actor from modern London who faces total chaos in his life. He loses his spot on a hit Regency TV show and hunts for jobs, but nothing emerges. Finally, he lands a job reenacting history on England's Guilford Island, but plans go wrong fast. Kipling finds himself in the water, and a wild storm drags him back to 1803, where Amelia Archibald waits without Kipling knowing it. She's an orphan, ignored by her family, seen as the poor cousin, and made to feel like a burden. Her grandfather gives her a harsh choice to claim her inheritance, and it involves the thing she hates the most, the ocean waters. It takes Kipling a while to figure out his strange fate, yet doubt lingers in his mind, and he ignores every clue right in front of him. The island folks prove that it's truly 1803, so he promises to stay to help Amelia. The romance builds slowly and true, and it was a beautiful thing to witness. These two, starving for real unconditional love all their lives, discover it together. It felt pure and deep, and I couldn't help but cheer them on.

The tension between Amelia and her stiff uncle made my heart hurt for Amelia. Her almost-fiancé, Mr. Winthrop, rubbed me wrong. He chased her only for the money she might get. He eventually gets what he deserves.

The ending wraps up well after some mishaps. That last scene in the book? It was just right and full of heart. Time-travel stories are some of my favorites right now, and the Storm Tide series is included on my list. Are you new to Sarah M. Eden's writing? Jump in with this one because it's a great place to start. Then go read all of her other wonderful books.

I was thrilled to get back into the Storm Tide world with this second installment of the series. A setup where one can be tossed decades or centuries into the past or future, centered in one quirky little corner of England? Sign me up.
This was a fun outing, although I will say I thought the first book in the series was stronger. This one has a modern character being transported back to Georgian times while thinking that he's just on his way to participate in a historical re-enactment, so a LOT more page time has to devoted to overcoming his skepticism, and that feels like it slows down the plot somewhat. Also, even though it ended nicely, I still had the feeling that there were some loose ends... but if that means there are plenty more books coming in this series, I'm happy enough!

Thanks to Netgalley and Shadow Mountain for this review copy!

4.5 stars rounded up. This book in the series doesn't have quite as much action as the first, but Sarah always does a phenomenal job of creating characters and situations that seem so real. The reader is privy to the truth about the situation before the main characters realize that time travel happened, which provided both a bit of levity as well as some intensity as the reader wondered when Kip was going to figure it out. Can't wait for the next one!

I just loved this. It's equal parts sweet and engaging, and if Kip took a little too long to realize he'd gone back in time, well, all of the characters know it and it becomes part of the joke. (Plus he was on his way to a job as a historical re-enactor, so he does get some slack.) I hope Eden keeps going with this series, because it's just a warm, comfy read every time.

~A modern-day London actor is hurled back to 1803, where a love that defies the centuries awaits.~

I was completely captivated and delighted by this time slip tale. Kipling loses a big acting role and finds himself relegated to dressing up as a historical reenactor, but happens to be rescued from the sea after a freak storm instead. Now on Guilford Island, he thinks he’s there to play a part, but something bigger is at play.

I couldn’t help but laugh and laugh at Kip’s situation–him thinking everyone is taking this reenactment so seriously, when in all seriousness, he’s been taken back to over 200 years in the past. But my emotions took a turn when Amelia’s story was revealed. Kip and Amelia, though separated by centuries, have such similar plights–being trapped against their control. The threads of hope, pining, and a love that transcends time is sprinkled with some suspense, and I was altogether swept away.

The setting is as temperamental as the weather and the whole cast of characters are brilliantly done. The deep friendships and slow-burn romance are everything–full of camaraderie, loyalty, unimaginable choices, and finding peace and belonging.

I’m excited to see where the Storm Tide will take us next.

Content: moments of peril; mild romance

I always love a good time travel story. I always find myself drawn to them and this one grabbed my interest quickly. I did find myself drawn into the story immediately and I tried to get past it being written in third person as I find myself not fond of stories written that particular way. The FMC is strong and determined and I liked Amelia right away, but she didn’t wow me. She was just mediocre for me. Kipling had all the right ingredients to be a notable MMC, but I don’t know if it was the third person POV or that I found his character quite boring as well the further the story progressed. I read this book quickly but I was admittedly underwhelmed by the story and felt that it could have been so much more.

Book two of the Storm Tide Romance released last month and it is the PERFECT read for a rainy day 🌧️ The legend of the sea is so amazing 🕰️ and I loved learning more about the mysterious waters 🌊

Amelia. After being a poor relation her entire life, Amelia is granted the opportunity of a lifetime to take control of her future 💙 The only downside is… she has to stay on an island for six months… and she is terrified of the sea 🌊 Amelia was such a strong character 💕 I loved how she had her fears, and she had her struggles, but it showed her overcoming it in such a beautiful way 🥹 as well as showing that some fears don’t need to be overcome, sometimes you just need someone to lean on 🥹

Kipling. After his career as an actor went up in flames 😅 Kipling makes a last ditch effort to become a worker at a historical site 🪶 I was laughing so hard during his POV’s 😂 This man has the FUNNIEST internal monologue 😭 That being said, my heart broke for him in this new situation bc MALCOM (iykyk😭).

Their relationship was adorable 🥰 Their romance was so organic 🥹 and they complimented each other so well 💞 I loved the different ways that they interacted, and it was so fun to see a modern man from America 🇺🇸 interact with a woman from 1803 🇬🇧

I loved all the cute historical facts that were scattered throughout the book 📖 noting the differences between time periods. And I loved the cast of side characters 💛 all the people from the village and the people living at the house were so sweet 🥰

⚠️ CW: almost drowning, mention of parents tragic deaths, super creepy yucky crazy dude who does super creepy yucky things (I hate him) ⚠️

When he loses his best acting role, Kipling Summerfield takes a job as a re-enactor on England’s Guilford Island. Before he can begin, he is swept into a storm and rescued by a mysterious lighthouse keeper. Believing the island is just an elaborate performance, he is shaken when he meets Amelia Archibald, a woman bound by duty yet brimming with quiet strength. As love grows between them, Kip must face the startling truth about Guilford and decide whether to embrace Amelia’s world or lose her forever.

I wasn’t expecting a contemporary beginning when I picked up this book. Kipling Summerfield is a man who doesn’t know himself anymore, and because of his experience on a period show, he manages to get by. I liked his interactions with Amelia and their romance.

The pace was fast, and the book was easy to read. The ending was not surprising, but it did make me a little sad that Kip wouldn't see his friends again. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy time travel romances. I received an advance reader copy via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own.

A small improvement over the disaster that was book 1.

The main characters, Kipling and Amelia, were more interesting and likable than the main characters of book 1, but that's not really saying much. This can be read as a stand-alone.

Once again, the local people speak in an incomprehensible dialect that makes them sound like total idiots. (I would use the R-word, but I'm not sure that's allowed, LOL.) I listened to the audiobook for the first 65% of the story, but then I switched to the kindle version.

Listening to the incomprehensible dialect of the local people and enduring the slow pacing of the story became intolerable. After switching to the kindle, I could just skim over the dialogue with the mixed-up pronouns and the substitution of "who" for the word "one."

In case you're wondering, the local people switch subject and object pronouns in their dialogue. Truly ridiculous. "She went to see him" becomes "Her went to see he." Anyone becomes "anywho."

After suffering through the two books in this series, I'm abandoning this author.

Sarah M. Eden did not disappoint with this latest time travel installment. I found myself remarking several times that I very much enjoyed reading this book.

It was really good and I felt that both storylines that this book contained could have stood in their own book, which I actually really liked because it showed that the characters were their own people.

Kipling and Amelia were great MCs and the stakes were wonderfully high while still remaining a quiet story.

The only reason it got less stars was because there were a few moments that the characters made decisions I didn’t like lol it obviously wasn’t enough to make me knock much off though.

Content warnings: light romance (including kissing, but not detailed) and mild peril

Awe man, what a beautiful story!!! I absolutely loved the dynamic of the relationship between Kip, our modern day hero thrust into 1803, and Amelia, our adorable heroine who is fighting for her independence.

Kip is so wonderful, and I LOVED how sweet he was with Amelia. He was thrust into a world that was strange to him, but he did so well to keep his chin up and make the best of it. And Amelia was so deserving of the love and care he bestowed on her.

The Tides of Time plot in this series is so unique, and I am hopeful for more. I always enjoy a good time travel book, and these are definitely ones you don’t want to miss. The pace of this one was very different than the first, but I love them both.

This book is available now, so don’t miss out on yours!!

I enjoyed the first Storm Tide book, but this one was even better! I loved Kip and Amelia, and the way Kip's career made it easy for him to travel the tides and a whole lot less aware about what was going on. There were so many humorous and touching scenes. There was only one loose thread that I hoped would be resolved at the end and wasn't. Maybe it will be addressed in another book.
I highly recommend this book to fans of Sarah Eden, time travel, regency romances, clean romances, anyone with a pulse who enjoys a happy ending!

This is an exceptional book, I absolutely loved it! Sarah Eden does an amazing job blending the two time periods. Kip is hilarious as our contemporary hero, while being kind, protective, and highly capable. Amelia is an amazing regency FMC, intelligent, strong, and yet vulnerable. Their relationship is sweet and natural. The townsfolk are charming and heartwarming. The writing style beautiful and gripping. Just brilliant.

Highly highly recommended!

I am loving this series! I was so amused by the MMC spending half the book thinking everyone he meets is just staying in charter for the historical reenactment he was hired for. I certainly would be looking for every excuse other than time travel if this happened to me! The FMC has lived such a hard life and never used it as an excuse to be unkind. I adored both characters and look forward to this series continuing.

So strange that I would just happen to read 2 time travel books within a few weeks of each other.. maybe it's a premonition 🤔 In all honesty, it would be rather interesting to find oneself in a different time, wouldn't it?! I did like this one better, but then it's Sarah Eden, so that's explanatory. I've got the other book in this series on hold and I'm looking forward to it!
