Our families have been enemies for thirty years. So why do I want Orson Cavendish more than the air I breathe?
He’s arrogant, ruthless, and dripping with billionaire confidence. He wants to buy the sacred pool my family has protected for decades. To him, it’s just land and profit. To me, it’s everything.
Our fathers fought over this land for thirty years. Now, with my father gone, I’m the last line of defense.
Orson is relentless. Infuriating. But utterly irresistible. When he kisses me, every bit of my resistance crumbles.
I should hate him. I want to hate him. Turns out, the line between hate and desire is paper-thin.
USA Today bestselling author Serenity Woods writes small-town romances about strong, capable men who work harder and love harder. Most of her stories are set in Aotearoa New Zealand, where she lives.
Serenity Woods is such a good story teller & I always enjoy her books, so I was delighted to receive an early copy of this book, the first in her new series, which I am reviewing voluntarily.
The main characters are Scarlett & Orson, who come from very different backgrounds which strongly influences their preconceptions about each other. Scarlett has grown up in Kahukura, a commune founded by her parents on Waiheke Island; believed by many to be a group of hippies, it is actually a refuge & support for women & children fleeing from domestic violence. Orson is a self-made businessman - he runs the Midnight Resort on the property neighbouring the commune - but he comes from a family who are well-off. They first meet in an Auckland lawyer’s office where they discuss Orson’s potential purchase of land that Scarlett has very recently inherited from her father, which is used by Kahukura. The land borders both properties & includes Waiora, a pool that is sacred to the Māori & is believed to have healing properties & important to the work of the commune. There’s a spark between Scarlett & Orson from their first meeting, which quickly intensifies and is hard to keep out of the negotiations over the land, Both are inflexible initially in their growing friendship & in the negotiations, Scarlett particularly so because her beloved father died very recently and she doesn’t like the idea of going against his wishes. It’s important to mention the feud between their fathers, who haven’t spoken in years but refuse to talk about why.
I found Scarlett was an unusual mix of worldly-wise in respect to the experiences of those coming to the refuge & naive in other ways, particularly when it came to relationships & life in the world outside the community. I did find her frustrating at times with her continual barbs about rich people & their assumed lifestyle. I liked the way Orson was mostly gentle & patient with her; he was determined to show her that she might be mistaken, but no matter how much he tried to tell her or show her things might be different, for a long time she was intransigent & unwilling to change her views fearing she would be disloyal to her father.
I loved this book. Why did I love it? It was such a good story, I was quickly drawn in & couldn’t put it down. Secondly, I love the world Serenity has created in her books which means you are likely to meet up with a familiar name or location in almost every book. I love the setting in New Zealand - I have family there & visit regularly, & I love being able to picture many of the places where the action takes place. I’d recommend this as a good summer holiday read, it’s a stand-alone but would be a good introduction if this is the first book you’ve read by this author. J
Serenity always writes lovely stories, very emotional and real. This one was no exception, I couldn’t put it down.
Scarlett has always lived in a commune, created by her parents to help women and their children who have escaped from abusive relationships. Sadly, both of her parents have died within a fortnight of each other, they have only just buried her father. The commune is run by a group of elders, but Scarlett has recently discovered that her father never signed the land over to the group, she is the legal owner. She has been asked to visit a solicitor in Auckland. The elders want her to attend the meeting and report back. They told her that the solicitor wanted to talk about land ownership, Scarlett does not know if they know more than they have told her.
There is also a young man waiting, when the solicitor comes out of his office he introduces them, and she realises that Orson Cavendish is the son of her father’s enemy, she knows they have not spoken for thirty years but has no idea why they have hated each other so much, for so long. Scarlett is furious with herself, she finds herself attracted to this stranger, her father’s enemy, a rich playboy; it feels as though she is going against her father. But she has to listen to what he has to say, she has promised the elders she will report back.
Orson’s family already own the land adjoining the commune, where they have built a luxury resort and a Midnight nightclub. They wish to share the waterfall and pool near the edge of the commune land, and are very generous in the offer and terms they are offering - at least fifty per cent more than the land is worth. But to Scarlett the pool is sacred, part of New Zealand’s mythology. It shouldn’t be available for use by people just because they are rich. She is quite horrified when she returns to the commune, the elders seem to think she could persuade him to pay even more, they could do with more money!
The next day Orson has arranged a meeting with her, so that they can walk round the land in question and discuss the plans he has to improve the area. And so begins their relationship. He tries his hardest to change her views that he is an idle, rich playboy who does nothing for anyone else, and always gets what he wants. As they get closer Scarlett realises that Orson is nothing like she thought, but their different lives mean that a life together is impossible. When they eventually learn the truth of the row that ended the friendship between their fathers it puts her issues with Orson into perspective. They would be very happy! Orson hadn’t needed to be persuaded on that score, he knew it when he first met her in the solicitor’s office!
Midnight Enemy by Serenity Woods The Midnight Billionaires Club #1
Capulets & Montagues? Nope…but the Cavendish & Stone patriarchs definitely have that hate-feud vibe that spilled over onto Scarlett Blake and Oliver Cavendish. Opposites in so many ways but with chemistry aplenty, this couple definitely deserves a happily ever after.
What I liked: * Scarlett: older sister to Ana, recently lost both parents, raised on a commune started by her father, positive outlook, provides classes for abused staying at the retreat, naïve but learns and grows a lot, open, caring, gives freely, attracted to Orson but doesn’t see how it can work * Orson: business owner, financial guru, grew up wealthy but created his own wealth, good friend, bright, entitled, generous, caring, philanthropic, learns and grows a lot, attracted to Scarlett, * Watching like a fly on the wall as Scarlett and Orson move from antagonism, to opening up, to sharing, and then caring * Ana: Scarlett’s sister: more open than her sister and in some ways more mature, caring, kind, wonder if she will find a billionaire * George: one of the commune elders in charge of money, good man, selfless, wise * Getting to see some of the people from previous books by this author * Spencer Cavendish: Orson’s father, self-made wealthy man, has depths, intriguing, glad to see he will have a book of his own * Kingi: Orson’s friend and business partner, brilliant, someone I hope will star in a book * Marama: Kingi’s sister, artist, traveling and studying art, may have show soon, like her and know she will be in a book soon, too. * Bearcub: both of them ;) * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing that drew me in, made me care, and read avidly from beginning to end * All of it really except…
What I didn’t like: * The impact the feud between Spencer and Blake had on both of them and the fallout from it onto those around them * The reason Amira, Scarlett’s mother, died and wondering if she could have had longer * On the fence about Orson’s mother but she didn’t strike me as a person I would want as a mother or friend
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Serenity Woods writes such beautiful stories with wonderful characters and settings, I know that I am going to laugh, I know that I am going to cry but I also know that when I reach the end I am going to have a smile on my face. Mahuika Stone (Scarlett) faced the handsome man in the lawyers office with a sinking heart, Scarlett was half white and half Māori, she had been raised in Kahukura Commune, a commune founded by her parents, the people led simple lives, they shared everything and they were a refuge for abused women and children where they could find peace and readjust their lives. Sadly, in the last month, both Scarlett's parents had died, Scarlett now owned the land on Waikehe Island where the commune stood, but it was the elders who ran the commune and made all the decisions. The finances of the commune were in trouble but they had been thrown a lifeline by the owners of the Midnight Luxury Resort whose land bordered the commune. Orson Cavendish, son of the owner had a proposition for her, they wanted to buy some of Scarlett's land but unfortunately it included Waiora, a sacred healing pool where Scarlett brough her troubled women to meditate in the peaceful, natural surroundings. There was an instant attraction between the beautiful commune girl who wore hippy style clothes and flowers in her hair and the handsome, debonaire, billionaire who was willing to make compromises for her, unfortunately feelings ran deep, Scarlett's father and Orson's father were bitter enemies, Scarlett knew that her father would never have sold land to them but the elders persuaded her that they needed the money. As Scarlett and Orson got to know each other, it soon became clear that their preconceptions were wrong, but this attraction couldn't go anywhere, they lived in different worlds. What would Orson's father think of Orson dating the daughter of his enemy ? Where had all the commune's money gone ? Could Scarlett and Orson overcome all the curved balls that fate was throwing at them ? A wonderful story beautifully told. I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
MIDNIGHT ENEMY is a standalone read with a happy ending. There are spicy scenes if that is an issue for you. The story is set on the Waiheke Island off the coast of Auckland, New Zealand. There are lots of mention of the Māori tribe, but all things are explained for easy understanding. The story is about a 27-year-old very wealthy and handsome young property developer. Orson has plans to develop the waterfall and river to entertain guests at his resort. Scarlett was raised in a commune across the river from Orson's resort. It is not the usual commune. It is a center that helps abused victims and sometimes their children from situations that were unbearable. They are given the tools to help them regain their footing and get their lives back on track. They are taught ways to help heal and see the path to a better life. Scarlett has been taught to share her time, money, and energy. She is very selfless and kind. She meets Orson and there is attraction, but he is too different from her beliefs and raising and they are worlds apart. He has a lot of money, and he enjoys the things his money can buy. He has several homes or apartments all over New Zealand and a few other countries. He thinks she lives looking through rose-colored glasses and she thinks he waste money that could be better spent helping the less fortunate. They will never see eye to eye. On top of all of that, their fathers are sworn enemies. Once friends there was an issue during college that ended their friendship, and they have had a hate going on since then. This is a great love story. It is also quite funny as these two become friends and learn to laugh together and learn a lot of their beliefs and thoughts were incorrect. I highly recommend it. A great start to a new series. Always fun to start a new series with Ms. Woods. Just wish she could write faster as I have a hard time waiting for the next book.
This is an ARC review, but I also buy the books for my library. I am not a writer, nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am NOT A BOT. I am a reader, and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 6/7/24.
I'm very fortunate enough to be a part of Ms Woods' ARC team, and getting these books early. All I have to do is write an honest review - how cool is that?!?
Orson and Scarlet take center stage in this one introducing the Midnight Club, and it's an explosive beginning to what I believe will be yet another hit series by this author.
Orson is likeable, charming, if a bit arrogant, but we meet him at 27 so I feel like there's room to file off the sharper edges.
Scarlet is not one of my favourite heroines, although I like her more than Elizabeth from the other Billionaires series (Huxley's wife, natch). However, while one can argue her naivete and stubborness come from her sheltered life, my reasons for giving her the side-eye is how uncompromising she is - and remains. Orson does all the work in this relationship, IMO, and she barely meets him halfway, instead throwing verbal darts and resisting any compromise at all until he's the one who bends for the most part. However, again, she IS only 24, and is written consistently, so I can't complain there.
The plot reveals some surprises that turn your expectations upside down, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I like that it isn't all straightforward!
We also get introduced to more Midnight Club members, and Orson's father gets to step into the spotlight next, which I'm very excited about. If there's anyone who can truly do an age gap romance brilliantly, it will be Serenity Woods. I have a feeling that, like Orson, Spencer Cavendish is hiding a volcanically colourful personality, and I can't wait.
As always, big BIG thank you to Miss Woods, and truly, I encourage you to read this series beginning and judge Orson and Scarlet for yourself Immerse in the beauty of New Zealand and the graceful writing, bask in the happily ever after, and enjoy!
Midnight Enemy is Orson and Scarlett’s opposites attract love story and it’s book one in The Midnight Club Billionaires Series. It’s a well written story that had me feeling like I was visiting New Zealand, catching up with friends and it’s a great start to the series. Orson is looking to purchase and develop some land that boarders his night club but in order to get what he wants he needs to deal with Scarlett who has just become the new owner after her father passed away. Her land is used as a retreat and safe place for abused woman and children but Orson only knows the new age bit the town talk about. Scarlett is not interested in money unless it’s to help do repairs or improvements to the retreat and knowing that her father and Orson’s father were enemies has her opposed to any land deals before discussions even happen……. From the moment they meet the attraction is obvious but Scarlett is not going to be easy to convince and that’s when Orson decides to take it slow, show her around and show her the plans and hopefully not fall in love with her…..problem is spending time together has all sorts of feelings rushing to the surface and it’s not long before lines are crossed. This book drew me in, I was captivated from the first chapter and there was no putting down until the final line was read. I fell hard and fast for the billionaire with a heart of gold and want a Scarlett in my life. I loved watching these two grow and overcome issues they had grown up with.
Scarlett and Orson’s story in Midnight Enemy by Serenity Woods, book one in The Midnight Club Billionaires series, is an amazing, emotional, sizzling, opposites attract, and heartwarming story. Scarlett and Orson grew up in two totally different worlds where a form a family feud between their fathers is involved. Orson grew up affluent, but is also a self-made man. Scarlett grew up in a "commune" that empowers abused women and children. Orson wants to purchase the shared water property between their properties; wanting to improve the shoreline and make it safer. Scarlett recently inherited the land after the death of her father. From the moment they meet the attraction between them is magnetic, but Scarlett is not going to be easy to convince. Orson decides it would be best to take it slow, show her around and show her the plans. He and Scarlett must come to an agreement on what is best for each of their properties and those impacted by their decisions all while nurturing feelings for each other.
Orson and Scarlett each have preconceived notions based on how they were raised, how they live their lives, and how they treat others. The more time they spend together, they find that they have more in common than not. The biggest obstacle is overcoming the secrets of the past between Orson and Scarlett's fathers which might just keep them from finding a happy future together. I was captivated in this story; not wanting to put it down. I look forward to the next one in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Midnight Enemy Midnight Billionaires Club #1 Serenity Woods ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Welcome to love with nitty gritty! Orson and Scarlett are everything that shouldn’t work. They come from different worlds; she had grown up in a commune, hidden from the real outside world, he is the rich kid, with everything at his fingers. Their families are mortal enemies, & and now the Midnight Club wants to take over the Waiora…. A very sacred and personal space for Scarlett.
While spitfire Scarlett gives everything to Orson after the devastating loss of her father, watching her sworn enemy come in to take over…. Never. Going. To. Happen! Orson is more than a little taken by Scarlett and her attitude, her sexiness, her charisma. It’s not easy but Orson slowly gets inside of Scarlett’s built-up armour. While she plays peacemaker between the Kahukura and the Billionaire Club, she discovers a soft spot for Orson, discovering his past is nothing like she’d imagined or been told. Lies are the last resort for Scarlett, she’s a free spirit, she helps women from violence and sees the worst, but opening up to Orson shows her a world she never knew.
As Scarlett finds a new kind of life, she must decide whether she can turn her back on everything she’d ever known about life in the commune to move into the current world of wealth. Because both worlds could never merge could they?…..
I've finally got my 'New Zealand' hit. I was deeply into withdrawal symptoms since I last read a Serenity Woods story. This book was well worth the wait. I adored Orson and Scarlett.
Orson is a billionaire with father issues and a heart of gold. He wants to purchase and develop some land adjacent to his night club. In order to arrange this he has to deal with the owner of the land who he sees as a bit 'new age'.
"Her hair is in a simple braid, and it doesn't look as if she's put on any makeup - no eyeliner, mascara, foundation, or even lip gloss."
"I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a woman like this."
Scarlett is a fairly sheltered woman living in a commune that helps victims of domestic violence. Her recently deceased father and Orson's father were sworn enemies. So she's not initially open to negotiations.
"He's clean shaven and extremely handsome, with dark hair that has unusual white flashes at his temples, even though he's only young. He has a large graze on his right temple, amongst his hair, that looks maybe a few weeks old and has nearly healed."
These two can't be more opposite, and yet there's a physical attraction. How will they get past their differences?
This book is an absolute joy to read and very life affirming. I loved the banter between Orson and his friends and the exchanges between Orson and Scarlett. I can't recommend it enough. This is an honest review.
Can two people who grow up in two totally different worlds form a lasting bond especially when there is a family feud involved? Orson grew up affluent, but is also a self-made man. Scarlett grew up in a "commune" which empowers battered women and children. Now the two must try to come to an agreement on what is best for each of their properties and those impacted by their decisions all while being enthralled with each other. Orson and Scarlett each have preconceived notions in regards to how they were raised, how they live their lives and how they treat others. The more time they spend together, the more things they find they have in common yet secrets of the past between Orson and Scarlett's fathers may be a hill too big for them to climb to reach a HEA. I loved Scarlett and Orson! Their banter is fun, their empathy endearing and their chemistry…. WOW! It was fun visiting with some of my favorite characters from other series of Ms. Woods as they made cameo appearances. A wonderful first book of the Midnight Club Billionaires series, it will grab you on page one just like all of Serenity’s books…. You cannot put it down! (I received an ARC for my honest review of the book with no compensation for my review)
Orson and Scarlett are polar opposites and any chance of a romance (and a Serenity happy ending) seems impossible. I have to admit that at first I did not like Orson. He seemed privileged, cocky and arrogant but I really grew to like him. Scarlett was a very compelling heroine who only wanted to help abused women and children and had an unrealistic, naive and innocent view of the world after being isolated in a commune her whole life. But she was refreshing and natural. I loved the snappy banter between these two as their world's collide and their differences become glaring. The concept of a utopian commune where women and children could heal and find peace after being abused was well constructed and appealing. I also liked the references to the Matrix movie where one must choose between the bliss of ignorance or the pain of truth and reality. There is a lot of depth to the plot as old family feuds are explained, trust is strained and love develops. This is a steamy love story and a very romantic and satisfying ending.
Opposites apparently do attract, especially if they are willing to compromise and work out their differences, finding a common ground. Orson is a high-educated, highly intelligent, hard-working, self-made billionaire! Scarlett has completed high school, has a very high emotional intelligence, but lives a relatively naive existence on a commune near Orson's Midnight Club. A river (among other things) separates them and the negotiations for development of the land near the river play a pivotal part in Orson and Scarlett learning to appreciate each other's viewpoint. Of course, there are lots of sparks, a lot of heat, and some unfortunate secrets that come to light, destroying Scarlett's naivety but not totally damaging her beliefs. The book is very well-written, with lots of excellent descriptions of the beautiful lands in New Zealand. As an aside, Ms. Woods' books are the reason I traveled to NZ, not once but twice, to see the beauty that she has written about in many of her books! I was given an ARC but the opinions are all my own.
Yes!! A new Billionaire series from Ms. Woods for our enjoyment. Meet Orson and Scarlett. Two more different people you couldn't imagine. He's the Billionaire developer who wants the land that adjoins both his resort and the neighboring commune. She's from the commune and technically the owner of said property. Although they have never met, each dismisses the other based on preconceived notions generated by the long-standing feud between their fathers. Despite this, their attraction to each other is immediate and intense.
The story easily reels us in as the main characters learn about family dynamics, each other, and themselves. Lessons are learned about forming your own opinions and learning trust and compromise. The supporting cast is intriguing and hints at more stories to come. There's enough romance and spice to keep things interesting and a nifty plot twist that leaves the reader reeling. I was lucky to have access to an early copy and am delighted to be able to share my views. Looking forward to the next installment!
I'm so in love with the start of this new series. Orson and Scarlett's story is fascinating and interesting on many levels.
Scarlett has been sheltered and doesn't look favorably on Orson's opulent lifestyle since she was raised on a commune, and he runs a nightclub next to her property exclusively for the wealthy.
Since Orson wants to buy from Scarlett a part of the sacred pool that adjoins his property, he needs to convince Scarlett it would be a good move for both sides.
This brings Scarlett and Orson in close proximity to each other, and soon, they are enjoying a flaming affair. Scarlett believes it could go nowhere because of their different lifestyles and core beliefs. Orson tries everything to convince her they can work.
I loved all of the characters Serenity has created. She always has such a depth of character analysis. I'm forever amazed at the number of books and tales she has woven. She is a master story teller, and I am looking forward to being an ARC reader for the next book.
Midnight Enemy is the story of Scarlett and Orson, who come from completely opposite worlds. Scarlett grew up and lives on a commune, where community and harmony are everything, while Orson is a billionaire whose family motto is “see, want, take”. They come together to figure out splitting land between the commune and the Midnight Circle resort. Not wanting to give too much away, this story sizzles, dives deep into relationships and how people with different worldviews can meet in the middle, and has some serious twists and turns as well. Serenity Woods is at her best here, bringing her characters to life in three dimensional ways, touching on serious social issues, and dialing up fantasy of life as a billionaire, and of course she has the thermostat turned way up in the bedroom!! If you like a steamy romance with some depth, you will love this book! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this story.
Orson and Scarlett had this strong spark from their very first meeting. Seeing as how their backgrounds were from opposite ends of the spectrum, it didn't seem like they should work as a couple. I felt like they worked because their ideals were much more similar and overrode the materialistic aspects.
I enjoyed their banter. There were a number of humorous moments. Scarlett and Orson's chemistry was intense. I liked that Scarlett had Ana for support. I know siblings growing up in the same house can be different, but Scarlett seemed so much more naive, much less aware of the world than Ana. Almost as if she was from another time.
I thought the way their fathers' pasts were revealed was interesting. The way the issues were resolved was intriguing. Orson had a measure of kindness that I found heartwarming. A good beginning to this new series.
What a fantastic start to this series! This book not only tells the story of Orson and Scarlett but also provides an amazing, in-depth description of New Zealand. I love how, in every one of Serenity's books, you feel as though you are right there; the descriptions are spot on.
This book is not only a tale of enemies to lovers, but it also emphasises the vast differences in their lives—he is a billionaire while she has lived a sheltered life in a commune. Despite this, the attraction between them is electric from the very beginning. I loved Scarlett, and Orson proved to be a gentleman, nothing like she thought he would be.
I particularly enjoyed the banter between Orson and his friends, as well as the exchanges between Orson and Scarlett. I highly recommend this book. Five stars are not enough!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Well Orson is my new fav!!! Perfect start to this new series, this story pulled me in from the first chapter. Scarlett & Orson had been raised to hate each other thanks to their families and this makes them both have ideas of what the other is like and the ideals they live by but nothing could be further from the truth. I loved seeing these two break down each other’s walls and discovering the real person and what there ideals were all while falling in love. I loved seeing Orson fall as hard as he did and Scarlett letting Orson in and to be her person. Serenity has been one of my favourite authors since i found her and her stories just get better. Loved everything about this one and so excited about whats coming next as know it’s going to be amazing. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
A commune and a glitzy resort for millionaires share a boundary that is a healing place sacred to the Maori. The actually land is now owned by Scarlett, the daughter of the deceased commune founder. The resort is owned by Orson, who wants to develop the boundary property. And oh yeah, his father is the former best friend-turned bitter enemy of Scarlett's father. This incredible story is not just a love story of people who have both been brought up in total misconceptions about each other's lifestyles, but it has the added attraction of watching them fight their prejudices, learning to trust what is actually true about each other.
Throw in a little (or a lot) of misdirection, possible criminal activity, parental deception, and redemption and this story starts a new series with a tremendous WOW!!
Their fathers have considered each other enemies for decades; Orson and Scarlett's story has Romeo and Juliet vibes, but with a much happier ending.
What I love most about Orson and Scarlett is their banter. It's witty and teasing. There is an honesty between them that keeps miscommunication to a minumum which is refreshing. Alot of this stems from Scarlett's honest and straightforward manner, she says what she thinks to Orson and he accepts it with grace.
The clash of their worlds and values threw up obstacles as their attraction grew. I loved the development of both characters, as they learnt to look below the surface and to form their own opinions that weren't coloured by their fathers' feud.
I loved the world building in this first book of the series and I look forward to seeing where Serenity Woods takes it.
Two opposites attract in this new series offering from Serenity Woods. Their fathers are mortal enemies and they live in very different worlds. Orson is the billionaire businessman who lives in a penthouse or five, Scarlett is the bohemian flower child who lives in a commune.
I really liked Orson, and I loved that Scarlett met his friends from other book series. The banter was great, it always is in Ms Woods books, and I felt the story progressed well. Even though I guessed the twist at the end, I still enjoyed the way it was handled. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series, and am hoping we hear more from these two as well. Would highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I've just finished reading Midnight Enemy by Serenity Woods. If you are an avid reader of this author, you will not be disappointed. If you are new to Serenity Woods, this book will make you a fan. Orson and Scarlett come from two different backgrounds with deep rooted ideas about each other. (Their fathers were enemies). As the story progresses, it starts to become clear that preconceived notions aren't always truthful and sometimes you just need to trust your instincts. The book is fast paced (I read it in two days), and well written. The details make you feel you are right there in New Zealand. There is plenty of banter, sweetness and spice. It is a standalone book (no cliffhangers), and I'm already looking forward to the next story in the series!
With hatred between their fathers, Scarlett and Orson were under false beliefs about each other. Scarlett believed Orson was a billionaire that could buy anything he wanted no matter who it hurt. Orson was under the belief that Scarlett was a hippie living in a commune not knowing what she really did at their commune was helped battered and abused women and children and worked to protect those that needed protected. Now the commune is financially struggling, and Orson who owns the Midnight Club wants to buy some of her land which contains a healing pool that borders their two lands. They came from two different worlds but developed feelings for each other. There is a lot to the story as to what the original feud was and when truths come out, would she survive them unscathed.
I've read alot of Serenity Wood's books, and have truly loved them all. She's such an amazing writer, and her books always gives a lesson on life along with the gorgeous backdrops of her stories.
Midnight Enemy is a new series she has come out with, and I truly enjoyed it. Although Scarlett was a bit irritating with her indecisiveness, I loved Orson. This story has some undertones of Fifty Shades of Grey, but I found the relationship between these two to be very likeable. Loved that a couple of the characters came over from a previous series. Very much looking forward to the next installment in this series.
Wow, Orson and Scarlett really are total opposites in everyway, but somehow you find yourself rooting for them to find common ground and have a HEA. The story ends with a HFN ending and as I am now invested in their relationship, I’m hoping subsequent stories in this series will feature the couple, showing Scarlett finding her feet in Orson’s world and him being absorbed into hers. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scarlett only wants to preserve her father's dream and keep their comune going. Orson is set to improve his Midnight Club even if it means changing the rules with their neighbour comune. Their lifes are worlds apart but, the moment they met, their attraction and connecrion is too strong to ignore. Can they work through their differents, secrets from the past and find the HAE they deserve? Great start to a new amazing series from Serenity Woods. This is my honest review of the ARC copy I received
Surprising how love can transcend ones' differences.
Scarlett comes from an idealistic yet simple life background, while Orson is a billionaire. Old feuds and family secrets create misunderstandings, which seem to overshadow their attraction at times. But, who they both appear to be is really only on the surface. Their story reveals how their beliefs are more in sync than they realize. How will these two not let the past keep them apart? A sexy, tender, caring and patient love story, takes place in a very unique location in New Zealand.
