Love this series! Sofia Martinez is a very inquisitive little girl who likes to get to the bottom of things! If you know of a small child who is shy this book might be a good read for them. Sofia thinks things out and then does what she has to do to get answers! Really think this series can empower small children to have confidence in themselves.
Fast paced. Engaging. Lots of family and friends who help Sofia problem solve. Spanish words and phrases woven into the text without translation BUT WITH context clues for a reader who does not know what the words mean--a real plus!
Recommended series for early transitional stage readers. Guessing the book is written around Fountas and Pinnell level J-K; on accelerated reader listed as grade level 2.5ish.
Cute story with short chapters about a Hispanic family. A boy who takes piano lessons from Sophia's mom brings his pet mouse over. Sophia agrees to take care of his mouse during the lesson time but it escapes. Nice story about solving everyday problems. Spanish words throughout and nice glossary at the end of book. This whole series is great. Highly recommended for Gr. 2-4.

Large font, about 21 pages of story. Color pictures. Spanish words are interspersed in pink/red so they stand out. The back has a Spanish glossary and 3 discussion questions and 3 writing prompts. Themes: mice, sisters, working together, responsibility. Hispanic characters. Own voices author.
Reading in Spanish so I can practice and learn vocab. This was a lot harder to read than expected the first time around but I was able to do so the second time around. A nice little story.
A fun story that incorporated short phrases in Spanish, this book felt like a entertaining family sitcom situation that incorporated teamwork and creative problem solving.
Finally, an easy reader series about a Latina! Features Spanish words and a glossary, as well as questions to discuss. In this volume, Sofia has to find the class pet when it gets lost in her house.
