The Huskies are the biggest and best team in the conference. The Wildcats lose to them every year. Coach thinks they have a chance this year. Can Carlos make it happen?

Spoiler Alert!!!!! Quarterback Comeback Book Review Project By Mason Williams The book Quarterback Comeback, by Jake Maddox, is about the importance of working together as a team. The genre of this book is realistic fiction. Carlos Suarez is the main character of this book. In this book, the Westfield Wildcats middle school football team has never beaten the Huskies. The Wildcat’s star quarterback, Carlos Suarez, is trying to end the teams losing streak against the Huskies every year. However, Carlos has a serious problem! He is selfish and arrogant and think he is the key to winning the game. On a Thursday afternoon, the Wildcats were practicing for the big game. They were having a scrimmage in order to prepare for the upcoming game. On the last play of the scrimmage, Carlos scrambled out of the pocket to rush for a touchdown. After practice the team was talking about what the plan would be for their game the next day. Logan mentioned, “They’re pretty tough. There are some seriously huge guys on that team.” The next day, Andrew and Carlos were talking, Andrew seemed nervous but Carlos seemed arrogant, as always. After school the game was supposed to start. Carlos was the first one of the field to warm up. Carlos saw what the Huskies’ players looked like. Carlos discovered Logan was right when he said that the Huskies’ team was huge. When the game began, the Wildcats were on the offensive side first. Carlos handed the ball of to Kyle, but Kyle did not go anywhere on the play due to the Huskies’ large linebackers. As the first quarter was coming to an end the score was 0-0. Unfortunately, the Wildcats had to punt once more before the quarter ended. At the end of the first quarter the Huskies scored their first touchdown of the game. The Wildcats had the ball at the beginning of the second quarter. Carlos’ arrogant attitude caused him to think he would be able to score all by himself. He told the team that he was going to run the football by himself. The first play of the Wildcats’ drive ended up as a gain of about 5 yards. The next play was nearly the same as the first play. However, Carlos was hit in the backfield and ended up losing ten yards. Now, with a 3rd and 15 start, Carols decided to run the ball himself once again. Unfortunately, he was not able to even come close to getting a first down and his team had to punt once more. When Andrew told Carlos to stop hotdogging, Carlos told him he was not going to pass the ball to him because he could not get open. At halftime the score was 14-0 with the Huskies in the lead. The whole Wildcats team was angry for two reasons. The first reason they were angry was because they were getting beat, once again, by the Huskies. The second reason the team was angry was because Carlos was because Carlos was not being a team player and thought he could win the game all by himself. During halftime Coach French told the Wildcat team their strategy for the second half of the game was going to be different than the first. Coach French told Carlos that he needed to pass the ball more instead of running it by himself. Carlos knew his teammates were unhappy with his arrogant attitude and he also wanted to win the game against the Huskies, so he decided to follow Coach French’s game plan for the last half of the football game. At the start of the third quarter. the Huskies were starting off great. Their kickoff returner had put their team in good field position. However, the Wildcat defense stepped up and caused the Huskies to punt. When the Wildcat offense took the field, Carlos followed Coach French’s game plan. Carlos rolled out to the right and found Andrew cutting across the middle of the field, he was wide open, so Carlos threw it to him and the Wildcats scored their first touchdown of the game. Then, the Huskies answered the Wildcats and scored a field goal. The score was now 17-7 with the Wildcats trailing behind. With two minutes left in the game the score was still the same. The Wildcats decided to make Andrew go long to, hopefully, make the score only be a three point difference. Carlos threw Andrew the ball, Andrew caught it and took it to the house for a touchdown! The Wildcats went crazy. Now, the Huskies had the ball once more. It was time for the Wildcat defense to really step up to keep them from scoring any more points. Logan, the linebacker, sacked the quarterback first play of Huskies’ drive and scooped up the ball. The Wildcats now had the ball for the final play of the game. The Wildcats knew their team had to score on this drive if they were going to defeat the Huskies for the first time. The team knew the Huskies were thinking the play would be a pass play, so they did the opposite. This time, Carlos ran the ball into the endzone for a touchdown. The Wildcats finally beat the Huskies! The thing that I liked most about this book is how Carlos went from being selfish and very arrogant, to unselfish and caring for his teammates. One thing I did not like about the book was Carlos’ arrogant attitude. It caused him to think he could win the game all by himself. If Carlos would have been a team player maybe his team would have blown out the Huskies instead of making it a very close game. I like how the author made Carols realize that he needed to change his selfish ways in order to help his team. Overall this was a good book that teaches the readers to stay humble and unselfish. This book also teaches the readers the importance of teamwork. Sometimes it is easier to work as a team instead of by yourself. I would rate this book as a five star because the author, Jake Maddox, wrote the story in a way that made me want to finish the book to see if Carlos’ arrogance would go away in order to help his team win the big game. The readers of this book will also understand why it is important to work as a team.
My novel is about football and how they are trying to win the championship but they are having a rough time because the other team that they are playing is better than them.I gave the book the rating of 4 i did because i think if the book was longer they could've add more details at the end of the book and that would of made is an 5. One thing i liked about the book was the kids were not giving up on the football team. The types of readers i recommend this to is readers that like sports. Age wise i would say 11-14 . i also like mystery books because you don’t know what going to happen next.
I just read an good book called Quarterback Comeback by Jake Maddox. The main character is Carlos. Carlos is the quarterback of the Wildcats. The huskies beat them every year, This year the Wildcats are not going to let that happen. My favorite part is at the end of the game with little time on the clock. If you like football books I recommend this book to you.
