ONE STRONG COWBOY... From the moment Dena Colby returned to Lander, Wyoming, handsome rancher Ry Hardin was there for her. Her father had just died and left her the ranch. But Dena had no intention of lowering her defenses for anyone, least of all her father's foreman. Dena might be saying "hands off," but Ry knew better. The darn fool woman needed him, even if she was too stubborn to admit it. This former cowgirl - now city girl - belonged in his strong cowboy arms, and he'd fight heaven and earth to get her there... .
Jackie Merritt's first book was published in December of 1988, and since then she's been deeply engrossed in the writing game. While she's gone through dry spells, where she can't write a word that makes sense and every idea ends up in the trash can, for the most part she's usually working on a viable story.
Jackie honestly believes that anyone with a reasonable grasp of language and grammar can write a bookif they're self-disciplined enough to put in the time and effort that writing demands. Starting a book is easy; staying with it until it is finished is the part that stops many would-be authors. Jackie believes she had an advantage that a lot of people do not have. As a former accountant, she was used to working alone and completing long projects. Oddly enough, the same principles apply to writing.
Plus, of course, you have to love it. Jackie's first attempts to write fiction were so bad they were comical, but she still fell in love with writing. She had written hundreds of business letters before that, but never a word of fiction, and there, all of a sudden, was a whole new world for her to explore.
Wind River Ranch is the twenty-first stand-alone romance by American author, Jackie Merritt. When Dena Colby returns to Wyoming, to Wind River Ranch to settle her father’s estate, she is heart-broken. He refused all contact with her when, as a rebellious eighteen-year-old, she married Tommy Hogan. Soon divorced and independent, Dena tried for years to reconcile with Simon Colby, but realises that now, it can never happen. She is shocked to discover she has inherited the ranch. Foreman of three years, Ry Hardin is surprised both by Dena’s absence since he has worked at the ranch, and her reaction to her inheritance. And both are surprised by the passion that flares between them. This is another sexy romance in the Silhouette Desire series, and, as usual, Merritt’s characters are appealing and more than one-dimensional. An enjoyable read.
Read this years ago but had forgotten I had. I had thought the story line was to due the murder of the father, but alas, it was not. Similar story to another book I had read. I found it droll and the usual Mills and Boon sudden attraction romance story. Nothing I can really say stood out to me in this particular one.
