The reason I wanted to read The Group, is because the setting was set in Madrid, which I have been to many times, it’s my favourite place to visit in the whole of Spain. I know just where I’m going in Madrid. I have also been to an art museum in Madrid, looking at all the paintings in the the galleries, so I connected with Hanna having an interview at an art museum to work in the galleries. I loved how she had to wear special white cotton gloves to handle things with care. I often would see little flats, around Madrid, so here I connected with Hanna having a little flat. Hanna didn’t have much money that’s why she rented a tiny flat, buying her clothes from charity shops. The one thing you do in Madrid is observe people, and that’s exactly what Hanna was doing, watching the guys as they walked, and everything around her. While out one evening, Hanna soon finds herself chatting to a Norwegian guy. She acts on impulse speaking to some guys that were familiar to her. All her new friends, Tom, Samuel and Leah have money, with Tom, in a Gucci suit, who is writing a novel. The question I was asking myself, why is Hanna writing everything down, about her new friend? I got the feeling that through obsession, Hanna wanted to be just like her well-off friends. The Group by Sigge Eklund, is, Hannah’s adventure through the months, with her group of friends. I do hope this book will be turned into a new Netflix film or series.
