I’ve read quite a few biographies of Napoleon/Josephine and their relationship. They’re frustrating to study because they inspire such diverse opinions in people. His biographers tend to minimize her influence, whereas her biographers vilify him. This is the only fair, balanced, sympathetic biography of their marriage I’ve read that fully fleshes out their relationship in the context of history. The analysis is nuanced and sensitive to the big picture of their love story.

Who knew that Napoleon (and eventually Josephine) were so passionate? A nice review of their history through both letters and narrative. Brings the characters to life!

This biography of the marriage between Josephine and Napoleon Bonaparte helps to round out my reading of the fictional accounts of Josephine. I found it fascinating to read actual correspondance between key players of the time, and to hear different viewpoints on Josephine's or Napoleon's actions, since my only previous reference is the historical fiction that I've read. This books describes a truly fascinating period in a very compelling manner.

very much enjoyed the actual letters written by Josephine and to get a real idea of what she was like. I read this 5 years ago but remember that it was an easy read and liked it.
