I'm glad it is a one-shot, so many fantasy novels are neverending series with prequels and sequels and other side stories. This story uses creatures and aesthetics from Tolkien but creates a new mythology and shows darker sides to beloved species (somehow similar to what is shown in the Rings of Power series). It has a slow pace, lots of personal growth, a very interesting and well planned twist, an interesting end. I'm not sure about the epilogue, it kinds of unties the whole point of the ending and "one-shot" advertising. The main character rides an emotional rollercoaster every new chapter, but somehow I felt less attached to her than to characters in other romantasy (ahem-ACOTAR's). I really liked the Generale Noire, a very well written character.
