Katrina Phillips likes her quiet life, but a chance to sing backup for the hottest band on the planet is too tempting to ignore. The only problem? Pushy lead guitarist Josh Hanna, who makes her question everything she thought she believed about life...and love.
Once upon a time, Kristina Knight spent her days running from car crash to fire to meetings with local police--no, she wasn't a troublemaker, she was a journalist. Her career took her all over the United States, writing about everything from a serial killer's capture to the National Finals Rodeo. Along the way she found her very own Knight in Shining Cowboy Boots and an abiding love for romance novels. Kristina writes contemporary romance with a smattering of sass, sex and (of course) drama, and she loves hearing from readers. And just like the characters from her favorite books, she's living her own happily ever after.
Kat has both a great career and great friends but is feeling unsettled. She sees her friends pairing off and feels out of sorts, sort of left behind. She doesn’t know if it’s the direction of her life or her lack of sex that has her discombobulated. No man can compare to the love of her life that walked away five years ago, left without a word…no note…nothing. Not that she hadn’t tried to find someone new, they just never measured up so she didn’t keep them around. The night of the season finale for Star Power, the show her best friends, Lily and Nate, host, she is very distracted trying to sort her emotions and wrestling with the thoughts of singing back-up again for Nate’s band, Anthem, when they hit the recording studio. She quit singing back-up for them five years ago when he walked away from the band and from her. While watching the show from the side of the stage, she notices the guitarist. He is hidden in the shadows of the pit but she can’t take her eyes off of the only part of him she can view, his hands and the way they move. When the show is over and the lights in the auditorium brighten, she is frozen…it’s Josh. Josh can’t believe he is back in LA. He’s only back to repay a debt. Sit in and play with the house band for the finale of Nate’s show then he’s back to San Francisco, back to his haven and away from the demons and cravings he left in LA five years ago. He didn’t expect to see Kat, although he should have known she’d be here with Lily. She is just a beautiful as he remembers and still takes his breath away. I felt so many emotions reading Kat and Josh’s story; heartbreak, sadness, despair, longing, hope, desire, never-ending love. It’s a wonderful story of coming clean, questions answered and truths revealed. A true second chance at a love that never died. Call me is book three in the Anthem series and my absolute favorite! I fell in love with Kat and Josh from the start and could not put the book down – I read it from start to finish in one setting. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I highly suggest reading the other two books-not just to get a little background on the other characters in the book, but because this is a great series! All of these books are well-written, great dialogue, relatable characters, and great descriptions.
Call me is book 3 of the series revolving around the guys of Anthem, a hot band. I loved the take on this book, although I wasn't expecting book three to focus on these character, it was a pleasant surprise. Josh was not someone that readers met in books 1 or 2, but he's a very well written character who has a lot of depth to him. I remember Kat from book 1 of the series, but I'm not sure that I remember her in book 2, so that she got her own book was a fun turn for the series.
I love that all three books are quick reads, fun novellas that a reader could really sit down and read 1-3 at one time. All 3 books really take the band full circle from successful to happily ever after. I loved the roll of Nate and Chase and Lily. There are brief references to Nina, but she doesn't actually play a role in the story.
Josh's backstory is heartbreaking, and his defining moment is terrifying when you stop to think about it. It takes a look at something that is actually a real world problem and shines a light on how these things happen without people noticing all the time. I loved Josh's perspective on his recovery and his determination to succeed in it and not hurt those around him (even if that is a bit naive).
Kat is a strong woman who loves with everything that she has, whether it's loving a man, her friends, or her career. It was fun to see her step out of her comfort zone and try new things. It was also encouraging to see her realize how blind she had been in the past and see her shift into a better place in her life.
I loved all the characters that Kristina Knight brought alive in this series. The series is one that I definitely recommend, romance lovers, especially those that love a good musician should check it out.
I love this series and like the others, this one did not disappoint. This is book 3 of the series but can be read as a stand alone.
I had many emotions while I read this book, I laughed, I cried, and I even had a few heart twinges. This is a book about second chances. It included real life and thought provoking situations (not my real life) and really made me stop and think on what I would have done had I been in Kat or Josh's shoes.
A lot has happened in the 5 years these two have been apart. Careers changed, locations moved, but one thing that did not change was the love they have for each other. However, they are both too afraid to give in and try again, to depend on each other to get them through anything. Well more so Josh than Kat, but she is willing to do anything to be able to move on and get Josh out of her system so she can move on without him.
This was well written. The characters were easy to become attached to, the dialogue flowed well between the characters and the descriptions to details were done nicely and were never overstated or boring.
Written as a mutli pov. A kinda short and fast read but all in all, a really good read and a great continuation to the series.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, but I also recommend reading the others in the series first. You don't have to but it would give you nice back ground information to some of the back ground characters.
Book number 3 in the rock and roll series gives us a look at Josh and Kat. Kat is feeling out of sync with her life choices, she is happy for her friends but feels alone and wants what they have found. She thought she had it once but fate had other plans. Josh returns to L.A. as a favor to help out the band he once played with and comes face to face with the women he deserted 5 years before. This was great story about second chances and the power of meddling friends. There are consequences to every choice we make, some good and some bad. Realizing you need to make a change and actually having the strength to follow through is probably one of the most challenging choices anyone has to make. Sometimes explaining why we made the choices we did is almost as hard. This was a story that will bring out your emotions, it will make you sad, make you smile and make you rethink some of your own choices. I enjoyed seeing all the series characters interacting in this storyline. Josh and Kat were well defined characters and I found them easy to relate to. The story was easy to read, fast paced and enjoyable. I will definitely be looking to see what other stories this author has for future reads.
Ok, I love these novella and this whole series! This is a quick read and one that you will re-read. Katrina is happy but is restless and isn't sure what to do. She is watching her friends pairing off and can't stop thinking about Josh who just left without a word years ago, leaving her heartbroken. One night while on the job with her friends she hears a guitar solo that moves her and when she gets a glimpse of the person playing the strings she is speechless, it is Josh. Josh is back in town for one night only as a favor and tries to leave without seeing Katrina, but that doesn't happen. This story takes us on the trip as Kat and Josh both come to terms with their pasts and decide whether to act on their feelings or leave it in the past and continue on with their lives. Loved hearing more about the characters from the previous stories and they add to this story as well.
I really enjoy Kristina Knight's books. I have read I think 3 so far by her. I really enjoyed the Anthem series. This is book #3. Light My Fire is book #1 and I have read it. I need to read book #2, Start Me Up. It is well written with believable characters and great descriptions.
Katrina feels unsettled and it is a feeling she can not shake. What does Katrina need to do to feel like her old self? Have a wild monkey sex one night stand? Get back to singing?
This book was short, but I love that. It was a fast read. It has a lot packed into it. Sadness, hope for a lost that one lost, heartbreak, love, longing for one another, getting passed their baggage (truth why Josh left Kat 5 years earlier). Everyone is pairing up around her, but here she is alone. Kat knows something is missing from her life, but what?
Kat sees Josh and so much comes rushing back. She thinks one wild monkey one night stand would get her out of feeling unsettled. Did it happened? I love second chances in romance books. It is one of my top themes. I have learned that in relationships usually one or both parties are holding back because he/she/they are afraid of being hurt. That is it with both Kat and Josh, but for Josh, there is more. The reason why he left 5 years ago. He thinks he does not have to tell Kat why he left, but to me, I would have to know. I would be thinking "Would he leave again?"
Great book!
☆☆☆☆☆ I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Would I recommend this book? Yes! Author? Yes! Would I read more from this author? Yes!
What can I say about Kat and Josh? Hot, sweet, fun, real...I enjoyed every page!
I loved the characters in this story. Kat is strong, creative, and feisty. I like that she decides to fight Josh this time around. Although, Josh never gave her a chance before. At first I didn't like Josh, but as he came to realize he truly felt about Kat his actions definitely followed his heart. He was also very real...he struggled with addiction as so many people do and it sort of brought him from "rock star" status down to earth with the rest of us. I also enjoyed revisiting the characters from the previous books, but they didn't completely take over the story.
I love how the main settings were used to heighten the emotions running wild between the characters...in the studio, in front of their friends you could cut the tension between Kat and Josh with a knife. But both were in their element with the music. Then her apartment was warm and homey, but they both sort of floundered in the relationship end of things. The tug of war between happiness, regret, and fear ended up working out in the end with a surprising HEA.
