Wasn't it madness to marry his secretary to provide his baby daughter with a mother? Jane, Mark's secretary, didn't think so. She'd been secretly in love with Mark since she'd started working with him. But she wanted their marriage to be for love -- not convenience...
Hi, I'm Liz Fielding, and I'm a best selling contemporary romance author with more than 15 million books in print and Katie Fforde wrote, when honouring me with the Romantic Novelists' Association's Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019 said - "Liz Fielding's books, with their warmth, humour and emotion, have charmed millions of readers. She is a true star of the romantic fiction genre..."
And now I've turned to a life of crime with my first cozy mystery. Murder Among the Roses, published on 18 April 2023 - of which Katie Fforde also said, "I was gripped from beginning to end..."
Reading is a big part of my life. I love witty, contemporary romances, not too much sex,, Women's fiction by the likes of Fiona Harper, Julie Cohen, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jennifer Crusie and Barbara O'Neal. And I love crime fiction that isn't too gory, or focussed on clue hunting, but is big on character.
My best loved series at the moment are the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths, The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch and the Libby Sarjeant Mysteries by Lesley Cookman. I've just read the first in the Georgina Drake crime series from Kate Hardy and looking forward to the next.

This book has to be one of my most favourites ever. It is exactly what I was searching for, with a sweet heroine who's been in love with the hero for ages, and a hero who's still (supposedly) in love with his dead wife, his sweet 3-year old daughter, and a MOC that just sweetens the unrequited love angst and deliciousness.
The heroine was sweet, yet she had a spine and stood up for herself. I loved her, and completely sympathised with her. The hero was somewhat caught up with himself, too busy to realise how difficult it must be for the heroine in the beginning - but he does realise it soon enough, and I loved him for trying.
The little puppy scene took my heart away. I also love the character's interaction, their development, and the slowly building sexual tension. In short - everything I love in a story.
The way he slowly realises his feelings for the heroine was so adorable. And the surprise in the end just topped it all ♥
Sweet romance which might suit a young adult or older reader searching for M&B/HP's without sex scenes. Has a lot of standard M&B/HP tropes: a marriage of convenience; a cute kid who needs a mother; a h who cannot live up to the standard of the perfect ex; a workaholic H who needs h (and cute kid) to show him there's more to life; and (always my favourite) forced to share a bed. Considering the brevity of the book, Fielding does a pretty good job.
Cute. Nothing special. Somehow it ended before I had the feeling the story even got started. Both protagonists were neither especially fascinating or boring - they just existed. Also I just had the feeling that the heroine gave up to easily - it somehow did not fit with her optimistic personality.
