I'm usually a little leery of a biography written by a family member of the subject, but in this case Frank Mahovlich's son Ted does a fine job in covering the life and career of his father. He is thorough, respectful, and generally positive without being gushy. Ted covers The Big M's early life and junior hockey days, as well as his well-known ongoing conflict with 1960s Leafs coach Punch Imlach. While one may assume the telling might be one-sided, he doesn't really provide a different story than most hockey historians have given. Also chronicled are Frank's career renaissance with the Red Wings and Canadiens, his years with the Toros and Bulls in the very interesting early years of the WHA, and his nomination to the Canadian Senate. An interesting book about an interesting hockey life.

This book was really cool since it was written from a different perspective then most of the other books I've read. Written from the perspective of Mahovlich's son, half of the book is the story of the old-timers tour he got to partake in, and the other half is stories from the greats about Frank and the progression of his career. It's full of lots of fun stories and gives a real insight into a lot of different areas of hockey while also giving a good message about what a full life truly is.
