Fate's Call #3

Lunar's Ruined Alpha

Rate this book
Single mom
serve coffee by day, bedtime stories for my little wolf by night.
I thought I left my mate's rejection far behind.
So why the hell is that bastard sleeping on my porch like some lovesick guard dog?

Alina
Rowan Greenbriar. Alpha heir. Prophecy boy.
He rejected me a decade ago because some wrinkly elder said I’d “ruin” him.
So I left with nothing but my broken bond and a very inconvenient pregnancy.

Now he’s sniffing around my diner, my house, and my kid—
who, by the way, has his stubborn mouth and my face.
He promised to keep his distance.
Ten minutes later, he had me pinned against my kitchen counter,
breathing like I was the last thing keeping him alive.

The prophecy said I’d ruin him.
I haven’t even started yet.

Rowan
I rejected my mate to protect my pack.
All it got me was ten years of silence—and a heart that hasn’t beat right since.
Now she’s back.
Alina Sinclair. Braver. Sharper. Beautiful enough to kill me twice.
She’s colder now. Tougher.
Hiding something dangerous behind those pretty brown eyes.
And that boy sitting in the corner booth?
He smells a little too familiar.

The prophecy didn’t lie.
She’s absolutely going to ruin me.
And I’ll crave more.

Sweet read 💜 I saw a clip of this book on social media and never heard of the author nor series. Apparently, I jumped in to the third book of a series. But I don’t regret it because it was super cute, Had tropes I enjoyed was well written, and helped me out of a slump. Both main characters are likable, and I’m always a big fan of the faded mates genre.

Over all, sweet quick read to cleanse the palate and make you feel wholesome.

🎶 ”So this is me swallowin' my pride. Standin' in front of you sayin' I'm sorry for that night” 🎶

Ten years ago, Rowan Greenbriar (H), heir to the Alpha throne, rejected his fated mate Alina Sinclair (h) to protect his pack from a prophecy that claimed she would ruin him. Alina fled with a broken bond, a secret pregnancy, and no intention of looking back—until Rowan returns, determined to reclaim what he lost. Now she’s tougher, guarded, and hiding a son who carries Rowan’s scent, but one touch reignites the bond neither of them ever truly severed.

“Don’t you dare get anywhere near him,” I snarl.

“He’s my—”

“He’s mine,” I cut him off. “Not yours.”

I like that Alina did not automatically give in to Rowan, despite her wolf instincts telling her otherwise. She truly tried her best to push him away, but for Noah’s sake she felt it was better to keep Rowan in her life. It was never about wanting Rowan back. It was about not being the one to separate a father and son, denying them the chance to build a relationship simply because Rowan had once rejected her as a mate. I love that she gave him the opportunity to be present as a father. Even though he hurt her, she did not let that get in the way of his bond with Noah. She was never bitter about it. Instead, she carried more of a quiet sadness and disappointment. That showed her strength, and I think it made her a truly great woman.

“Why didn’t you come back, then? I would have—”

“Would have what, Rowan? I had no reason to believe you’d care that I was carrying your child. You rejected me, and that means you rejected our son, too.”

“You know why I had to do that.”

Alina definitely knew how to handle herself, and of course she did end up falling for Rowan again. Not only were her wolf instincts telling her that he was the one, but she never really felt that connection fade away. It was always lingering. She tried to hold it back and push it away, but it was clearly harder than she anticipated. I truly feel like they were meant to be. Whether it is because they are destined mates or because their bond was simply that strong, I am just glad they found their way back to each other. It was frustrating on his part, though, because he put his faith in a prophecy that ended up being misleading. They lost so much time and so many years because of it, and he essentially shut himself off from the world over something that could have been avoided. That miscommunication is tragic, but at the end of the day, she left because she wanted to protect herself and her people. I think that was very honorable of her, even if it cost them precious years together.

“I’m not anything to you.”

“At the very least, you’re the mother of the next Greenbriar heir.”

“Thanks for reducing me to the function my womb has performed for your almighty pack.”

She left knowing she would be a lone wolf with her child, but she also knew that if she stayed and the prophecy came true, many people would be hurt because of her. That is why I believe she made the right choice. Their reunion years later was what needed to happen. I am glad they now have their little family. It is unfortunate that they lost so much time, but now that they are together again, they can make up for it and create new memories. Alina did a wonderful job on her own. She should not have had to do it alone, but she proved herself to be a great mother. She stepped up, she cared, and she nurtured Noah.

Rowan did feel like a doormat at times, and I am mad that he chose to listen to a prophecy instead of following his heart and trusting his mate. But at the same time, he was a teenager. I cannot hold that entirely against him, because he was young and scared of what it would mean for the rest of the pack. Alina ultimately made her own decision as well. What I will say is that he did not deserve to be upset with her for keeping Noah hidden. He never actively looked for her, so he has no right to hold that against her.

meh. 1.5
I found it hard to focus on this book because I thought it was a little dull and predictable.

This book starts with h working at a bar. The Alpha comes in to have a meeting with another Alpha. h has a 9-year-old son, who is in the corner reading comic books. The visiting soon-to-be Alpha arrives, and it happens to be H.

Then we get the flashback in pieces. H is a Playboy Alpha. Seriously, he's banged a lot of women. The reason he just carelessly goes around shagging everything....... some witch told a prophecy that said H's fated mate would bring downfall to him and his pack. So he has always known he would reject his mate.

H and h are members of the same pack. He has always noticed her, but she went away to school for a little while. She came back at 18, and HE REALLY NOTICED HER THEN. They hooked up, and in the middle of the hookup, the mate bond snapped into place. He was kind of a-hole to her about it. BUT in his great wisdom.....he thought she could just live right outside his pack. Still be a member, but she would always be known as "the Luna that never was." Well, she didn't want that. She left the pack that night. A few weeks later, she discovered the new pack of unwanted wolves (it's basically a pack of old wolves), and that's where she's been with her son for the last 9 years.

Now we go back to the day of their reunion in the diner. H immediately sees the 9-year-old boy and knows it is his son. HE IS ALL IN
This man hasn't looked for his mate in 10 years. She was out of sight, out of mind. Now he wants everything with her, except the mate thing. *eyeroll*
He does mention he's been celibate for 10 years. lol

One thing about this book that's a tad different than most shifter books, H is not the Alpha yet. His dad is considered a good Alpha, and he still rules.

h resisted him for a few days. They went back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Her body would betray her, then she would be angry again. H was like the perfect dad, though, so he bonded with the boy quickly.

There is a nearby pack that wants to take over. They are causing issues.
H decides to actually go talk to the witch who had that prophecy and get clarification. (Wut? Why did he not ask for clarification all those years ago?) Naturally, it was all a big misunderstanding!

So...this couple knows dangerous people are trying to take them down. What do they do? They let their son take the bus to school, and he gets kidnapped.
We have the final showdown. H sacrifices himself to save h and the son. He almost dies. h performs some ancient ritual of the mating bond, so it will help heal him. A few weeks later, he survives.
6 months later, H's dad (the Alpha) turns over the Alpha seat to H. H declares h as his Luna and the son the Alpha heir. I think a few years later, h is pregnant. HEA.

Boring and makes no sense

The so called 'curse' was such nonsense. It made no sense that this guy gave up his mate and family for some extremely vague, wishy washy non specific crap about being 'ruined'.
I just got so bored and confused because, the author was confused! One sentence the mmc was saying that no curse was worth losing his family and mate, then a few sentences later, the curse was the most important thing and they couldn't be together?!? Like what?!
I was so frustrated and annoyed, this book was garbled up and all over the place, I got about 60% through and just stopped. The justification that the old dear had got ONE prophecy correct therefore she was always right was so ludicrous I laughed out loud, because she didn't even get that prophecy correct, it's called a self fulfilling prophecy, especially one so vague
No one questions it, no one asked about it, they heard it once and that was that, I mean, what?
Just couldn't do it. Can some of the authors please do a rough sketch of the story before writing it out to iron out the inconsistencies, the story lines that don't make sense, the mind numbing dialogue that goes on for pages etc
Was just bored

“Ruination can come in many forms. And I wonder if it is necessarily a bad thing to be ruined by the one you love.”

“Loyalty is earned, not demanded.”

“This is the end of something, and the beginning of something else.”

“But love is scary, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that fear is sometimes the clearest sign you’re standing in front of something real.”

so i actually really liked this. i love angsty books that have a happy ending. people make mistakes, it’s human nature, but mistakes aren’t the end of everything and that’s what this book showed.

Super insta love despite knowing 0 about the other. So more like insta lust. Co parenting would have been fine, but sure, you’ve spoken to this person for 1 night and then immediately went no contact for 10 years but what is that if not love.

I enjoyed this, although I felt like she gave in a little too easily too many times. I had to take a break and read a quick novella because I got frustrated with her. I did enjoy the ending.
