Brewer Family #5

The Situation

Rate this book
Someone should tell Tate Brewer that one-night stands aren’t supposed to come with a sequel.

I’ve learned the hard way—don’t be reckless with anything, least of all my heart. But after one too many vodka sodas, saying yes to a much younger, devastatingly smooth stranger for one wild night seems like the perfect way to forget my brutal divorce. I even gave him a fake name. What could go wrong?

You’d be surprised.

Because instead of being my spicy little secret, Tate is now the chief marketing officer at my new job. He’s determined to prove our night together was only the beginning—and he has the tools to do it.

Chiseled jaw. Washboard abs. Effortless charm. He knows exactly how to get under my skin, melt my defenses, and keep me coming back for more.

I wanted a one-night stand. Instead, I got a full-blown situation. I should run and protect myself. But when he looks at me like I’m his whole world, I’m not sure I remember how.

Did I read this in one sitting? Yes. Yes I did. And I had the best time. I adore Adriana’s writing, her books are perfect for a binge read, every time. They never fail to bring a smile to my face, have me giggling and give all the swoon.

Tate is the last remaining single Brewer sibling who has also been my favourite side character in every book so far. I’ve been patiently waiting for his story and BOY did he deliver. He’s surrounded by happy couples having families and knows he wants that too. So when he meets Kelly (ahem, Aurora) on a flight and feels that pull, he sets his sights on her. And he does not give up. A bit of stalking? No problem. She’s older than him? He finds that hot. She’s his best friend’s (ex)stepmom? He finds that even hotter! He is the definition of man down bad and I loved every moment.

A few notes + thoughts…
⊹ aurora was so sweet + relatable.
⊹ tate was a textbook golden retriever + his witty one liners hit every time.
⊹ he stalks her, but she likes it.
⊹ the chemistry is palpable + their one night stand is HOT.
⊹ so many laugh out loud + giddy moments.
⊹ the way he showed up for her, every time.
⊹ their communication + compromise.
⊹ every time he called her hot stepmommy had me cackling.
⊹ the blueberry pie. iykyk 👀
⊹ brewer family banter was in fine form.
⊹ all the cameos from our faves, loved seeing them!
⊹ the text threads hit every time.
⊹ being the last book of this series, i do wish we got more of a wrap up / finale feeling with the family as a whole.
⊹ the found family warm + fuzzies is so good with this tribe.

I’m sad this series is over but looking forward to seeing what she’s going to bring us next!

Let me start with Addy is my fave….i love all of her books. And I loved this one as well…..just not as much as others. Honestly I just wanted a little more than given. Tate is precious and so lovable and Aurora was very relatable. Spice was on point but the story felt rushed a little. I guess I was hoping for a little more ya know? Of course I’ll read it again (multiple times) and it’ll grow more on me but this was just my first impression.

📌 “I’m pretty sure I met my wife today.”

HOW IS THIS THE END OF THE BREWER FAMILY? I need a moment to collect myself.

😭😭😭😭

Tate. The baby of the family. I don’t think this series could have ended any other way. It had to be with him. His bubbly personality. His big heart and good intentions. His best friend Carys and how that annoys his brother, her husband. It had to end with his unshakable confidence that started to have cracks. It had to end with him finding her.

I’m not proud to admit it took me a few pages to put two and two together on who Aurora was. That’s so on me but you know what?! I don’t think I would have wanted it any other way. The way my heart popped when it finally clicked is a feeling I’m going to cherish for the rest of my days :)

After a few too many lemon drop martinis, our heroine seeks a carefree night to forget her recent divorce. She ends up with a charming, younger stranger... no names, no strings. But fate has other plans. That unforgettable night becomes more complicated when she discovers he's the new Chief Marketing Officer at her workplace. As professional boundaries blur and undeniable chemistry resurfaces, she's faced with a choice: build walls or risk her heart again.

Diving into The Situation felt like catching up with an old friend over coffee. The story kicks off with a relatable premise: a woman, reeling from a tough divorce, indulges in a spontaneous night with a younger man, only to find him as her new colleague. The ensuing tension is palpable, filled with stolen glances and "accidental" meetings that had me grinning.

What I appreciated most was the authentic portrayal of vulnerability. The protagonist's internal struggle between guarding her heart and embracing new love resonated deeply. Tate, the male lead, isn't just a charming face; he's persistent in the most endearing way, challenging her reservations without overstepping.

The office setting added an extra layer of intrigue. Navigating professional dynamics while dealing with personal feelings created moments that were both humorous and heartfelt. The banter between characters provided levity, making the story feel well-rounded.

In essence, The Situation is a delightful exploration of second chances, personal growth, and the unexpected ways love can re-enter our lives.

The Vibes It Brings:
💼 Workplace Romance
🔥 Age Gap Dynamics
💔 Healing After Heartbreak
😂 Witty Banter and Humor
❤️ Slow-Burn to Passionate Love
🎯 Strong Female Protagonist
🎉 Unexpected Life Twists
📚 Standalone in a Series

If you're in the mood for a romance that blends humor, heartfelt moments, and a touch of workplace drama, The Situation is a must-read. Adriana Locke delivers a story that's both entertaining and emotionally resonant, reminding us that love often finds us when we least expect it. Thank you to Adriana Locke and Valentine PR for the copy of The Situation. The opinions are my own.

Ok let me start by saying that Adriana Locke is my absolute favorite and I have LOVED all of her books. The Carmichael series is my fav, and Tate has always given Banks Carmichael energy in my opinion.

I was so excited for Tate’s story, but felt a little let down when I saw the “sneak peaks” - age gap (which is just a personal preference but I don’t like this trope at all) and a reverse age gap at that 😬 not my cup of tea.

That being said, there’s also a few “errors” or plot holes to mention:

1. On page 105 he is talking about her being in his hotel room and it reads: “…because I swept it off the counter so Aurora could sit in its place”. But at this point, he only knows her as Kelly.

2. I’m finding it hard to believe that neither of them connected the dots to Carys, considering Carys and Tate are best friends. I know Carys didn’t have a great relationship with her father and therefore wasn’t close with Aurora, but Tate isn’t exactly a common name so…

I also didn’t like his childish meltdown at the end and kind of ruined my appeal of him to begin with.

I don’t mean to be a hater but unfortunately this is my least favorite in the series, and it hurts my heart that I felt this way. 😞

I have been waiting for Tates story for what feels like forever. Make it a reverse age gap romance??? Sold. I devoured it from start to finish. You can always count on Adrianna Locke to write a quick short romance that cheers you up. Tate is the epitome of golden retriever hero and he’s determined to not let Aurora get away. I loved everything about this story from the banter to the swoon worthy moments.

I’ve loved this series but this book fell a little flat for me. I didn’t really feel the emotional connection between aurora and Tate. While there was no real third act breakup which I appreciated their relationship went from zero to 100 so fast. I did expect them to dive a little deeper into emotions. I did love seeing Mimi again, her and Tates relationship is so great. The bond between the siblings also continued to be great in this book. I was excited to see an older woman as the main lead but I did think her age might come into play more based on the teasers, however it was more about the divorce angle and her views on marriage.

I also felt like the book ended a little abruptly. I wish we had gotten an epilogue with an update on how things were going from the events that occurred in the last chapter.

All this said it was still an entertaining read just not my favorite in the series.

Somewhere along the line, I’ve allowed the monologue in my head to skew to the negative. Instead of looking at a situation and seeing the positive—what happens if this is the best thing to ever happen to me?—my mind always goes to the dark side—what happens if I screw this up and ruin everything? I don’t feel hopeful; I’m fearful. I don’t imagine the joy that could come out of something. I go immediately to the potential pain and heartbreak or judge myself preemptively.

“Your body is fucking fire, but your brain is the sexiest thing about you,” he says. “And I mean that in the best way.”

“I’ve always known that I wanted to have a family, have a home. I’ve wanted a beautiful wife and a house that smells like pie.”

“I’ve always said that I’m going to do it once—find the right girl and sweep her off her feet,” he says,

Yay! I was so excited when this one hit my inbox, I am such a huge fan of this series. I was super excited for Tate's story & it definitely didn’t disappoint.

It was such perfection that the main characters were connected in the way they were. There was just no chance they were going to be only a one night stand with all of that tension between the two of them.

I was hooked from the start until the end and I finished it in one day!

You get:
• Contemporary Romance
• Spicy
• Age Gap
• Insta Love
• Forced Proximity
• Hidden Identity
• Past Trauma

I'm loving this series! Available on KU, ebook, paperback, and audiobook.

It was funny, but a lot about this book didn't work for me.

- insta love. No way was believable.
- man child. women usually wants a man not a spoiled teenager who doesn't like to get a "no".
- they didn't have time to develop a real love. All was about attraction and lust.
- so you have a best friend for life and never saw a photo or meet her stepmother?
- how do you live in a city with a billionaire family and you never saw a picture of these people?
- FMC never worked in marketing, but somehow she's an expert?

I really enjoyed the reverse age gap trope, but this one was not for me.

I really love reading Adriana Locke books they are always so good.

In this one we follow along with Aurora Johnson & Tate Brewer. They meet on a plane and Aurora gives Tate a fake name they have dinner together and drinks together and have a one night stand.

They met up again when Aurora works for them and has no idea that this is Cary’s step mother until he learns her last name. We get to follow along with how Aurora & Tate are going to be together and there is slot of spice between them and it just makes you wanna read more.

ALC Review
Lance Greenfield & Janine Granda they did a really good job playing Tate & Aurora. Lance was the perfect male narrator to play Tate as Tate has a bubbly sense of humor and the way Lance played Tate was amazing. Janine was the right female narrator to play Aurora and just the way she played Aurora gave me chills.

Not much of a connection

I gave 3 stars because I love this series and the book is well written.

I don’t think Tate is ready for a relationship. At the very beginning of the book he wanted to take a selfie of his abs, which made me think he was immature. The instant connection with Aurora was a one night stand. It felt like he saw the whole thing as a challenge since she turned him down. Then his feelings got hurt when he realized she left without telling him goodbye.

I have a difficult time with age gaps that are over 10 years. Especially if one of them is in their 20’s. Aurora gave Tate a fake name. Due to the age difference he was clueless that it was the name of a tv character. Even after he googled her name, he still didn’t comprehend that she gave him a fake name. Made me wonder what other stunts she could pull off that he would be to ignorant to realize what she did.

I really love this series, but this book was a disappointment. I just couldn’t get over the lack in the connection between Tate and Aurora. They have two things in common…. They both love blueberry pie and neither of them know anything about hockey, yet they work for a hockey team. 🤷‍♀️ He was the wrong character to be in a 10+ year age gap relationship.

Spoiler alert: He hasn’t even told her he loved her and draws up papers to make her part owner of a hockey team - and didn’t even ask if she wanted it! Another immature and ignorant move. Also…. Him: “I have known you for a few weeks, let’s have a baby“….Her: ”okay, but I may not want to ever marry you“…. Okay, maybe they didn’t say those exact words, but close enough. This was really rushed.

I loved this one! Strangers to Lovers is such a fun trope, ESPECIALLY when it’s a one night stand situation.

Aurora is looking to step out of her comfort zone after 2 terrible marriages. When she meets a hottie on a plane and they hit it off she gets a chance to be someone else.

The chemistry between Aurora & Tate was divine! This is a reverse age gap, and Tate was more than ready to show her just how much her age didn’t matter to him. This man was literally DOWN BAD for her right from the beginning.

When she leaves him with a fake name and no phone number he tries to find her, but little did he know she was closer to him than ever!

Aurora’s backstory is sad, she’s so deserving of love so I’m happy Tate found her! Big changes are happening for the whole Brewer family and so many things have come full circle!

If you love a man obsessed in and out of the bedroom for his woman, you have to add this one to your TBR!

I'm going to round this up to 4 for 1 reason: Mimi. If you've read the other books in this series, then you've probably met her. We get her a good amount here, and I love her.

TBH, I initially rated this 3.5 because it all felt sooo rushed? It kind of reads like a novella, or even a long short story, if that makes any sense 😂 I wanted more development in their relationship, and not just the physical aspect of it.

But I love this family. I very much enjoyed this whole series, and I'm sad it's over! Can't wait for what Adriana has next.

Tate Brewer has always been one of my favorite Brewer boys. He’s charming, persistent, and totally swoon-worthy... and his relationship with Mimi? Absolutely hilarious and heartwarming. I was laughing out loud more than once!

The story kicks off with a spicy one-night stand that turns into a very unexpected surprise (oops 😅), and from there, it’s flirty chaos in the best way. The chemistry is electric, the banter is gold, and the emotional beats hit just right.

If you’re into fun, steamy romance with a side of family feels and laugh-out-loud moments, this one’s a must-read. Tate is truly the whole package. 💛

Tate & Aurora- dang I wanted more.

It felt rushed. There were so many repeat inner monologues where they repeat an exact scene several pages later but in thought. It made me feel like it was just page fillers.

I love the group texts/chats. As usual Addy crushes these scenes and it gives a realistic vibe to it and really helps connect the characters.

It was predictable, but in a good way. I loved seeing Tate fall in love and get his hea. Ofc it was unrealistic and induced a few eye rolls, but it is fiction and entertaining.

The last two of this series just didn’t quite deliver the punch or finale of a series I would have hoped for.

Imagine being so burned by not only one shit ex husband, but two!
Imagine that you're 40 and totally done with marriage and relationships in general.
Imagine that you finally found that inner courage to be free and have a one night stand with a hot random guy.

Now you see... that hot guy is just the most perfect, gorgeous, naughty and sexy billionaire. He's also determined to have you more than once.

This book is another amazing comfort read, with all the feelings and giggles, and even if age gap in general ain't my thing, I couldn't help but fall in love with Tate too.

He's amazing, caring, protective and he knows what he wants... and he wants it all!

I can't wait to see what else will come next.

I received an ALC via the author, all opinions are my own.

I really felt old when Tate didn't know who Kelly Kapowski was, but it was really funny when finally figured it out. Saved by the Bell was such a big part of my childhood. Aurora has not been lucky in love, so when gorgeous Tate Brewer sits down next to her on a flight to a conference she is not interested in his charm. Tate is used to getting what he wants, and right now he wants her. She gives him a fake name and they have some witty banter until their flight lands, but she turns him down when he asks her to dinner. Undeterred, Tate meets her for dinner anyway and they have a night to remember. Aurora returns to her life in marketing, only to reunite with Tate when she finds out his family owns the hockey team she is working to rebrand and he is taking over the marketing efforts. He also isn't backing down on his efforts to woo her.

Tate is a little over the top with his overtures and spoiled brat mentality. Then again he's still in his twenties and the baby of his family. He is used to getting his way and is rarely told no in any situation. Aurora on the other hand is while not old, older than Tate and has had more experience with relationships and knows what she wants and doesn't want. She has been burned by men in the past and is willing to ask for what she wants. Their relationship moved a bit fast for my taste, but they were entertaining.

Can I say how much I loved Mimi? I'm a sucker for a good grandparent character and Mimi was such a great one? She gave great advice and was hilarious. I miss my grandmother so much, so when I see a character like this where there is such a loving and genuine connection it fills my heart. I also love that she loves to bake and they bake together!

A Solid Finale, But Missing a Spark
I was beyond excited for Tate Brewer’s story—he's been such a lovable presence throughout the series, and I couldn’t wait to see him take center stage. The Situation gives us a reverse age gap, one-night stand turned workplace romance that had all the makings of something unforgettable. Tate is charming, funny, and full of heart. His love for his siblings, his best friend, and especially Mimi really shines and shows what kind of man he is. But as much as I enjoyed him, I found myself wanting more from his character in this book—more depth, more struggle, more emotional payoff.
Aurora, his love interest, is a bit harder to connect with. After two failed marriages, her reluctance to open up is understandable, but it also made it harder to fully feel the romance blossom. Their chemistry and banter were fun to read, but something was just missing for me emotionally. I never quite reached the level of investment I hoped for with their relationship.
That said, it’s still a solid, heartfelt read and a worthy addition to the series. Saying goodbye to the Brewer family is bittersweet—I’ve loved being part of their world and watching each of them find love. While The Situation didn’t quite hit the high, I expected, I’ll still treasure this series as a whole. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

When it was announced that this book was going to be about Aurora and Tate, I was like a kid in a candy shop. Give me all the reverse age gap books!

🧡Workplace romance
🧡Reverse age gap
🧡One night stand
🧡He falls first
🧡Best friend’s stepmother

After giving a fake name to her amazing one night stand, Aurora never expects to see him again. Until they come face to face at the company his family and him own. He is her new temporary boss and they are going to be working closely together. Will they be able to keep their heavy attraction and chemistry at bay? Or will it be so overpowering that they break all their walls down?

I absolutely loved this one! It is definitely my new favorite non-angsty Adriana Locke book. Tate and Aurora totally took over my heart. I loved Tate’s loving and caring personality and how he allowed Aurora to shine and be herself.

Lance Greenfield and Janine Granda did a fantastic job with this one. Their performance truly brought these characters to life in the best way.

** Audio Review **
Obsessed with Tate Brewer! The Situation by Adriana Locke was a sweet and sexy workplace/age gap romance that had me blushing and swooning from start to finish. Aurora and Tate’s journey to HEA was full of steamy and emotional moments that had me longing for these two to find a way to love each other with their insecurities and all. I love this Brewer family so hard!

Janine Granda and Lance Greenfield perform this audiobook in dual narration, and both fully embody their character. Janine’s raspy, expressive voice encompassed all of Aurora’s doubts and desires as she healed from past relationships and gave in to the temptation that was Tate Brewer. Lance’s performance captured Tate’s smugness, confidence, and charm that made this smooth-talking man utterly irresistible. Both narrators created a steamy, undeniable chemistry right from the start between these two.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you are a fan of a workplace romance with a hot hunky billionaire, a romance reading heroine who loves fuzzy blankets, airplane meet cute, a one night stand, Saved by the Bell, family banter, blueberry pie, advice from Mimi, he’s obsessed with her, reverse age gap, bathroom spice, love declarations, marriage proposals, grand hockey gestures, and a HEA that leads to the best situation then you will love Aurora and Tate’s story. I always look forward to more from Adriana Locke.

We have a SCORCHING HOT Situation on our hands because Tate Brewer…(fans face)…is so sexy, and charismatically funny that he’s irresistible.

If you’ve been reading all the amazing books in this series then you know how funny, charming and off the wall Tate can be. He has a heart of gold and so much love but he’s cautious with his heart and that’s because he hadn’t met Aurora. Their connection is instant but Aurora isn’t going to make it easy on Mr. Brewer.

This was such a sweet and heartwarming book. I loved how Adriana gave Tate his story but also let readers know that the Brewers are good. This family has held my heart since well since even before book one and if you know then you know. I’m beyond excited with how things went but also sad that this series is complete. I hope we get more Brewers because this family is one of a kind and I’m going to miss them.

This was absolutely amazing! The Narrators brought the book to life and I was hooked from the beginning

Aurora twice divorced did not want to dive head first into anything so when she give a stranger on the plane a fake name and they spend on steamy night together and she leaves we’ll imagine her shock when he’s works at her new job!! This book was such a fun read with the flirty banter but there were also some emotional parts!

So so good!!

4 stars!

A fun, sexy romance with a reverse age gap and an irresistible hero who is smitten at first sight, this is such a great read!

Tate is the baby of the Brewer family. He’s rich, he’s gorgeous, he oozes with confidence and he knows what he wants. So, when he meets a woman on a plane and is instantly smitten, he knows she’s the one for him. Unfortunately, Aurora is coming out of two bad marriages and she wants nowhere near a relationship. After spending her flight being flirted with by her sexy seatmate, she may be up for a one night stand though.

“Who sits in a lobby with an open reservation just hoping someone walks by?”
I hold her gaze. “Someone who knows what they want.”
“And you want me?”
“You have no fucking idea how much I want you.”

The entire first third of this book is dedicated to Tate and Aurora’s first meeting, and then their sizzling night together. We get to know these two characters, we see their chemistry as they flirt and banter, and their passionate physical attraction is steamy as all hell. But even though they both go into their encounter declaring it’s going to just be one night, Tate knows it’s more than that, so when Aurora is gone the following morning, he knows he needs to find her.

“I love that you think I’ve been able to think about anything other than you.”

So imagine their surprise when Tate rocks up at Aurora’s job as her sort-of boss. She is horrified and finds it all kinds of awkward, but Tate is thrilled, knowing that Aurora won’t be able to resist his irresistible charm, and he’s absolutely right. But the man has a battle on his hands to break through Aurora’s walls. Just as well he is supremely confident and determined to get his girl.

“I’m not implying that you’ve somehow fallen for me in such a short period because that would be ridiculous.”
“Maybe it would be,” he says, searching my eyes. “But wouldn’t it also be ridiculous to allow fear to hold you back from something that has the potential to be amazing?”

This is such a fun romance. Tate is absolutely irresistible as the smitten hero. He’s a good guy with a heart of gold who wants nothing more than a wife and family. He knows he’s found it, and he’s so completely unapologetic about it, and it’s completely endearing as we see him fight so hard to win Aurora’s heart. He’s sweet, funny and sexy as all hell, and I just adored him. And Aurora is a great heroine. She’s been through a lot, and I completely understood her feelings and why she was so scared to get involved. But she’s brave and I loved watching her find the strength to trust her heart and allow herself to explore things with Tate, while at the same time standing her ground and looking after herself. She balances it well, and it’s so freaking sweet watching these two come together.

“Every time I’ve said I’m not already yours was a lie.”

I enjoyed being back in this world and seeing the rest of the Brewer clan. The sibling text chain continues to be a highlight that had me laughing at their fantastically teasing dynamic, and I loved seeing them all living out their HEAs.

This is the final book in the series, and it’s a great one to finish on. I loved Tate and Aurora’s story, and finished this one with a big smile on my face.

4 stars.

“Finish it or get rid of it.”

This is just my opinion….I’m torn with this book. I have loved Tate since the beginning so I have looked forward to reading his story for a while…I just was not a fan of Aurora.

Tate gets seated beside a beautiful woman who he is immediately attracted to. Aurora sees this young guy as a player and flirts a bit but doesn’t expect to fall for him. What follows is some very spicy, sexy time and the big kiss off at the end of the “one night stand” until she sees him again..as her boss…

I just didn’t really feel the chemistry. Tate was the first to fall and just assume he would be the end all for Aurora. Aurora is trying to find herself after 2 divorces and she was the “older woman” so she didn’t understand why Tate would even be attracted to her. Tate was definitely acting like the spoiled brat he was. No one tells him no..until Aurora.

The shock of putting together who Aurora was, was probably one of the best things in the book (other than the spicy time..that was definitely hot). Aurora didn’t want to get remarried, but then she complained when he didn’t tell her he loved her. She was very wishy washy and the whole “I told you I wanted a one night stand..” and then proceed to want more from him but not marriage. She also didn’t like when someone challenged her. I’m glad her BFF called her out on it. She tells Tate he doesn’t know what he wants..I don’t know..I just didn’t care for Aurora at all.

Again, this is just my opinion. I have read every book that this author has written and I have loved pretty much all of them..but this one just missed the mark.
