While the author's rose-coloured view of Russian culture during WWI was heavy handed at times, it was still more balanced than most American action novels. In particular, the events depicted while in Poland were laughable, particularly in the face of how Russian troops scorched the earth while retreating through that same area in 1915. His depiction of antisemitism was also much watered down; in reality, several Russian army divisions of the day routinely attempted to eradicate every Jew they unearthed (the Lwów pogrom).

But enough history. I loved the feel of this book and this series. More than just hidden powers, the protagonist's focus on improving the lives of his countrymen gave the whole story a warm and caring tone. Sure he was a Mary-Sue character, but his objectives were unselfish.

I expect this to be the final book for this series but hope to see this author write more speculative fiction in the near future.

A well written RFY series.

Would recommend all 3 books in the series.
Am a fan of Speculative Fiction - always enjoy reading about situations and viewpoints foreign to my own life, whether it's Japanese "reborn as", alternate history stories, Fantasy works w elves,(etc.), ScFi Space Operas, even Victorian era romcom. Also quite willing to digest well-written "X, Fuck, Yeah!" Stories, of which there are a great deal where X is Humanity... or America. In this case, it's Russia. The series certainly cheerleads early 1900s Russia (and denigrates early 1900s England & Germany) but it does so well, and even if you don't buy all the praise (and condemnation) it's a refreshing change of pave / view to read.
Would recommend reading the books in series order, and if there's ever a continuation of the series I'll certainly buy those books too.

God Touched

Excellent work. I do not know much of Russian history or politics but the part of this story that I do know made the alternate reality here very enjoyable. The interplay between the Doctor and the Empress just outstanding. I am sorry if book 3 is the last of this reality. Hopefully not. I heartily recommend all three books to anyone who enjoys reading alternative fiction.

This book lost me with all the political machinations!

I was only here for the healing... instead I got political mumble jumble following an alternative history and spycraft of a war I did not care about. I girded my loins an soldiered on to see if the book got better. Eventually we finally got to healing patience, but really you shouldn't have to struggle when reading the fanale!!!

The first novel I have ever read with a Russian bias - and I liked it!!

The 3 volume Doctor from Nowhere is an account of the adventures of a Russian Army doctor in alternate history of the 1st World War. As a retired soldier, the narrative rang true, allowing for some wild experiences! You should like it.

I gave this NO Stars - because the writer became enamored with his own prose - and quite frankly bored me to tears.

Who wan't to read an action story where the protagonist is yakking with his mother-in-law to be who also happens to be the Queen.

Nowhere near this author is where you can find me.

I can’t tell if this is the end of the series or not but either way it was a solid book 3.

Nice Read

Good story and never boring. Looking forward to more. Allows you to look thru the eyes of someone who is living in the past. Sorry to see it end.
