Some chains don't bind—they set you free.

When my father died, he left me a pile of debts and no way to pay them. Now, notorious rancher Jackson Hawkins owns my ranch, but what he really wants is me. He gives me an impossible submit to one year under the complete control of a monster, or lose everything my family spent generations building. I thought I could handle his terms—after all, I've spent my life taming dangerous stallions. But nothing prepared me for the predator beneath Jackson's polished exterior.

As spring storms trap us on his vast empire, I discover a terrifying truth—the more I fight his possession, the more I crave his control. But when my father's past threatens our future, I'll have to decide if surrendering to this monster of a man means losing myself—or finally finding the freedom to become who I was always meant to be.

Leather & Lies is a scorching contemporary western romance featuring an unhinged cowboy who demands complete surrender from his curvy obsession, with forced proximity, lots of spice, and a battle of wills that will leave them both questioning who's really being tamed.

Well, well, well! This was a deliciously hot and heavy dark cowboy romance. I was hooked right away on Shiloh and Jackson. I was intrigued by her fierceness and with his obsession with her. The man was addicted to her for years and he made all the moves to make it happen. Whether she wants him to or not, he's getting her in his arms.

This reminded me a bit of Sovereign by Raya Morris Edwards but not *quite* as dark and heavy. There are still very serious themes and dubious situations, but it reads quicker and we don't sit in the anguish as much. Which is ideal if that book was too long for you.

Shiloh has been through a LOT and Jackson just wants to take care of her and make her his. Though their ideas of what that looks like are VERY different. I do wish I had seen a bit more of what made him obsessed with her. It felt like it was only physical most of the time and he went through quite a bit to force her into this arrangement, so I wanted to see into his heart about what brought him to this point.

Overall, I did enjoy this book, and I see great potential for the author. I liked that this book wasn't overwritten, but I think a few things needed to be more fleshed out. So that I felt more connection outside of the BDSM scenes.

4 Stars
4 on the spice scale

CW: (author has a full list, but the big ones to me are:) Blackmailing into sex, stalking, death of a parent, financial insecurity, heavy BDSM themes

*Thank you to the author for an ARC of this title.*

I really wanted to love this book, the blurb, the content warnings it all looked like it was going to be a bit of me but unfortunately it just wasn’t…

I found the book really disjointed and it didn’t have a good flow whatsoever which is a shame as I really think it could’ve been a good book if it had a bit of a better pace and instead of saying he grabbed her throat a million times over. Speaking of which, I thought it was going to be so steamy with the content warnings but this also just didn’t hit either?

I found the chemistry just lacked too, he was obsessed with her and she was toying with her feelings for him but there was no passion for me in the relationship at all.

Absolutely gutted as I was really looking forward to it, but it just didn’t do it for me 🙁

Leather & Lies by Delilah Grant
4/5⭐
3,5/5🌶️

I picked up this book without really knowing what to expect, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised! I noticed some tropes that I usually enjoy, and it turned out to be exactly my cup of tea. It's a short read, only about 250 pages, so you can comfortably finish it in one sitting. The plot is simple but super engaging, and the characters are fantastic. The spice level? Off the charts! I also liked the side characters, which makes me eager to dive into the next book in the series.

Jackson is a wealthy rancher who has a fearsome reputation. He’s dangerous and ruthless, and he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty. He’s been obsessed with Shiloh ever since he first laid eyes on her and goes to great lengths to get what he wants. After Shiloh's father passes away, she finds herself in a tough spot with a lot of debt. Jackson, who has been biding his time, finally makes his move to collect. He gives her an ultimatum: spend a year under his control or lose her ranch.

I love a dominant and possessive MMC, and Jackson fits that description perfectly! He initially aims to break Shiloh’s spirit, but as things progress, he realizes he wants her to choose him willingly. Shiloh is such a strong, resilient, and independent character. I loved that she stood up to Jackson and wasn’t afraid to challenge him. She's an expert horse trainer and her interactions with the horses showcase her gentle and kind nature.

Their relationship journey is something I adored; I loved seeing them build trust and partnership over time. Jackson eventually comes to see Shiloh as his equal, which makes their connection all the more special. Overall, this book was an enjoyable read, especially if you're looking for a quick story featuring a possessive and obsessed MMC with plenty of heat. I’m genuinely excited to read the next book and find out more about the side characters!

Some monsters can’t be redeemed but with the right partner, can be channelled.

She did didn’t know how to trust without surrendering everything/ just like he didn’t know how to protect without controlling…..

But Jackson gave her freedom - real freedom
The kind that comes from choosing to trust rather than being forced to submit.

Great story. ❤️

This is a new author to me, and it looks like this is their debut book, so congrats on that! I love finding new authors 🥰🥰 I was really excited when I saw the tropes for this. Dark cowboy romance with a deliciously dangerous and obsessive MMC 😍😍😍 yes please! The story was quick and steamy…it was good…it fell a little flat for me, I’m not going to lie…but it wasn’t terrible. I think for a debut book it was good, and over time it will get better.

This is the story of Shiloh and Jackson. Jackson is a gritty, gruff, dangerous rancher who thrives in the darkness. Shiloh is the object of his obsession. When her father passes, she’s made aware that because of his debts with Jackson, the ranch doesn’t belong to her as she hopped…it belongs to him. And if she has any chance of getting it back, she has to agree to his contract. One year…by his side…in his bed….

That’s it. That’s the plot. What ensues next is filth lol 😂 pure filth. I loved it. Jackson is as dark in the bedroom as he is outside of the bedroom and I ate it up. There was a bit of repetitiveness with the scenes which made it less engaging for me. I’m a fan of hand necklaces but it felt like he lived with his hand around her throat 24/7 🥲

I wanted to see more development with the characters. I know it’s a short read so we don’t get a lot of time, but beyond the physical…I couldn’t see what the obsession with Shiloh was for Jackson. He was obsessed with her body, yes? But what else…because that can’t be it…or maybe it can. I don’t know. I personally didn’t feel chemistry between them. It felt transactional which it was given the blackmail. But I just felt like Shiloh wasn’t really in it. She really just wanted the last piece of her father back and was willing to do what it takes to get it…including indulging Jackson’s obsession.

The book is heavy on BD$M and has a very long trigger warning list so PLEASE…proceed with caution. 🧡

A new to me author, and it looks like this is a debut novel. A quick read that pulled me in quickly, for a series start the side characters are also ones I want to get to know better. The suspense had me turning pages to see what would happen next.

Jackson is dangerous and ruthless; his hands are not clean. He knows what he wants and is willing to play the long game. Shiloh is in his sights, and after her father passes, he will help her with her debts, for a price.

Shiloh is strong and smart; her independence and no fear of Jackson become a challenge to him. I love the journey these two are on. As they dance around their relationship, there is a fine line between love and hate.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Jackson is a wealthy rancher with a fearsome reputation.
He built his empire from the ground up, and he’s used to getting exactly what he wants.
When he sets his sights on Shiloh, he knows she has to be his — no matter what it takes.

After her father’s death, Shiloh finds out that the ranch she loves no longer belongs to her.
It’s now Jackson’s.
He uses her father’s debt to trap her — one year by his side, or the ranch is lost forever.

𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀…

This was such a good and spicy read! Only 250 pages, super quick to devour, and full of heat 🔥
Delilah’s writing is promising and I’m already excited for what’s next!

The story did move a bit fast — especially the romance — and a few parts felt a little repetitive. But overall? I really enjoyed it!

Horse trainer + rich cowboy? Say no more.
I LOVE a morally grey, dominant hero — and Jackson delivered.
Shiloh was strong, fierce, and never afraid to stand her ground, which made their dynamic even better.

Loved watching their relationship grow into trust and real connection.
If you’re into intense cowboys and high heat, this one’s for you

Once again, thank you so much for the invite — I really enjoyed this read and I’m super curious about the next book!

ARC review

Delilah Grant just gets dark romance. Leather & Lies is a gritty, addictive, and sinfully tense enemies-to-lovers story set against the backdrop of a storm-ravaged ranch in a small town where secrets never stay buried for long.

We meet Shiloh, a headstrong, desperate heroine thrown into an impossible situation after her father’s death leaves her drowning in debt. Enter Jackson Hawkins — possessive, brooding, and harboring a long-standing obsession with the one woman who’s always been off-limits. When he offers Shiloh a devil’s bargain, the lines between hate, desire, and survival blur in the most deliciously dark ways.

What I loved:

The dual POV — getting inside both Shiloh’s conflicted thoughts and Jackson’s obsessive, possessive mind made this story hit differently.
Tension you could cut with a knife. Every scene between them crackled, from their venom-laced banter to the moments where control slips and raw vulnerability shines through.
Western grit meets dark romance intensity. Delilah balances small-town gossip, power dynamics, and steamy obsession so well.

Fair warning — this one’s heavy on the darker elements, with possessiveness, control, and morally gray characters driving the story. But if you love a hero who toes (and crosses) the line between protector and predator, Jackson will absolutely ruin you.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

I’m already itching for the next book in the Ruthless Cowboys of Salvation series.

ARC review:

This went zero to 100 real quick and I was eating it up! Jackson is possessive AF and took stalking to the next level. Shiloh had a quiet confidence that matched Jackson’s energy really nicely. Their arrangement was so toxic. The spice was spicing though 🥵. I would’ve liked a bit more of the backstory in the beginning instead of on the back end because of how quickly things got physical between Shiloh and Jackson but ultimately satisfied with how things played out in the end. This was my intro to Delilah’s work and I am excited to read more and definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thank you to Delilah Grant and The Author Agency for this ARC - I absolutely loved it, consumed the story in one night and am obsessed with the MMC.

Jackson as the MMC was absolutely delicious. I am obsessed with morally grey, red flag cowboys and Jackson ticks those boxes. He is obsessed with the FMC for years, basically stalks her to learn everything about her and then creates a scenario in which she has little choice but to move onto his ranch for a year so he can try and get her to submit. What’s not to love about him?

Shiloh is a great FMC. She is passionate about training horses, she isn’t afraid of Jackson, she is feisty and she has no plans to submit to him. She challenges him at every step of their relationship and we love her for it.

This is the first in the series and I am already excited about the next book focussing on another couple. It’s not the darkest cowboy romance out there but it’s still excellent and doesn’t need to be any darker or spicier, it all works really together. If you love a cowboy romance but want a stronger than average FMC and a red flag MMC I highly recommend picking this up.

Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC!

Leather and Lies is a steamy, high-stakes romance with a gritty edge. Fans of bad boy cowboys, fierce heroines, and second chances will find plenty to enjoy here. There’s a strong emotional undercurrent woven through the tension, and the chemistry between the leads is undeniable.

Delilah Grant brings a bold voice to the page, and this story definitely delivers on heat, heart, and drama. While there were moments that felt a bit repetitive for my taste, I appreciated the character dynamics and the layered backstories that unfolded along the way.

This one will appeal to readers who love protective alphas, feisty banter, and a touch of danger with their romance.

I really really wanted to enjoy this! I loved the start but I felt like it kind of lost its flow part way through and it got a wee bit confusing because it jumped from week to week quite fast.
The pet names and use of the term “mine” just got a wee bit too repetitive, And I thought it was going to be a lot spicier than it was considering the warnings. I didn’t love Jackson like I usually do with other MMCs and Shiloh just didn’t seem like she was that into him , it felt like she really was just trying to keep him happy and her feelings weren’t genuine. I definitely think the story has a lot of potential but the flow just wasn’t there

Leather and Lies is a dark cowboy romance and is Jackson and Shiloh’s story.

While the blurb and tropes had me wanting to read this book, to me it fell a little short. It wasn’t a bad read, just felt like something was missing.

Jackson and Shiloh are good main characters and do have good chemistry. There’s plenty of banter and lots of obsession! This is a quick read and if dark cowboys are your thing, give it a look.

If you love a possessive, dominant MMC with a feisty counterpart, then this book os for you. Leather & Lies follows Jackson and Shiloh as they navigate secrets, lies, and a connection that is electric.

Shiloh agrees to a deal that may just break her. Her body for her ranch for one year. Little does she know there are secrets that bind this contract, and Jackson does everything in his power to prove he’s the morally grey, unhinged cowboy the town makes him out to be. To his surprise, she’s not the submissive he expected, and she gives him a run for his money and his control.

I wasn't sure what I was getting going into this book. I love me a dark cowboy romance and add in an obsessive and possessive mmc I am all in! I loved how Jackson dominated Shiloh while still allowing her to have her own independence. dark western romance will always have my heart.

you want a man who has been obsessing over you the last six years down to the men that you have been with? he knows every single thing about you bc he has been keeping tabs on you and stalking you FOR. SIX. YEARS.

Shiloh Foster recently lost her dad. She is trying to manage her ranch, those who work on it, and above all else herself. It's been hard since her father left her the ranch with a lot of debt and she does not know the extent of what he did. You get a call one day and you have to head into town only to come face to face with the grumpy billionaire who has bought the ranches surrounding yours. He tells you that he has taken out loans with him and that in order for you to get back full rein of your ranch and gain full control of the legacy your father left you, you must be his in every single way that counts for a year. In his ranch, in his home, and in his bed. Her body and her future are his for the year. You end up making a deal with the devil and get into an arrangement of sorts.

OOOOOOOOF. the spice FROM THE BEGINNING. i was a puddle on the floor. Jackson Hawkins, the man that you are. i need a man like him. my land, my property, my woman. shiloh, my baby shiloh who grew up basically on her own. i loved her and her take no shit attitude towards Jackson. this had everything you could possibly want in a dark western romance; spice, plot, a man who is obsessed with you and will DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. prepare to be sick of me and the next book??? I AM SAT.

tropes:
- dark cowboy romance
- unhinged, morally grey, obsessed cowboy
- curvy FMC
- age gap
- her body or her ranch
- dubcon & coercion
- stalking & surveillance
- forced proximity
- protective MMC
- competence-as-foreplay
- he knows when he's messed up and needs to grovel
- he falls first and he falls hard
- he knows how to use a rope (and reins!)
- non-exhaustive kink list!

Shiloh and Jackson story was one for the books I enjoyed reading this ARC because it truly was a good read! I enjoyed seeing how a protective MMC he was but also in a. Way he really truly was into her and a bit obsessive .

She was fierce and she knew that he would get her somehow some way but I wanted to have just a bit more of a better understanding why he kinda forced her into an arrangement maybe I hoped we could’ve dived more into it
But over all a great book!

Thank you to Delilah & team for sending me this ARC.
Firstly, just want to talk about how gorgeous the cover is! I love it!🖤😍

The spice was spicing in this book 🌶️🥵, some darker themes than your average cowboy romance book, slightly more taboo. I liked the setting of the book & the tropes too!

I finished this all in one evening such a quick easy read & really enjoyed it.

The only thing that lost stars for me was the lack of descriptions of characters which meant I struggled to imagine them, slight over use of pet names & some parts felt repetitive for such a short book.

Overall a really good book for a debut novel! 👏🏼😍

ARC review.

I went into this with very high hopes. A dark cowboy romance? SIGN ME UP....
but from the start I was pretty disappointed. this story had such high potential, but FOR ME the pacing was off. the time jump between the prologue and Ch 1 was 6 years.... which wouldn't be an issue except the story felt like it started in the middle of their story.

those "missing years" were mentioned multiple times, and seem to be important to the story of Shiloh and Jackson. And chapter one started off strong, and kinda fast. the "spice" and level of comfort between the two happened VERY quickly, and as a result it felt very "instant love" type story which im not too fond of.

however once I got past the first 3rd of the book or so, and I forgot how fast everything happened, I had a fun time. things were pretty repetitive but I didn't hate it, but I also didn't love it.

this book ended up being very "mid of the line" for me.

Leather & Lies is the first book in Delilah Grant’s Ruthless Cowboys of Salvation series. This was my first book by this author and my first foray into reading dark cowboy romance. After reading it, I’m definitely eager to read more books of this type.

Poor Shiloh is struggling to save her family’s ranch after her father left her with a mountain of debt. Unfortunately, she is forced to make a deal with Jackson, a man she knows is dangerous. Jackson has been obsessed with Shiloh for years and is determined to make her submit to him, desiring to own her completely. However, Shiloh is not going to make it easy for him. The more time Jackson spends with her, the more he realizes that she may not be so easy to break.

One thing I greatly appreciated while reading this book is that it is told from a Dual POV. While I don’t mind reading from a single perspective, I definitely prefer a Dual POV because it allows me to understand both characters’ feelings for one another. In the case of Shiloh, she really didn’t care for Jackson, and I loved her fiery spirit as she defied him at every turn, especially when she knew the best way to train a horse. She put Jackson in his place regarding training horses that required extra care, which made him furious, but he eventually listened to her. I felt sympathy for her character because her father left her with numerous challenges to face, but thankfully, she has someone watching her back, even though that person can be more controlling than ever. She is also capable of taking care of herself, as she has demonstrated multiple times throughout this book, which is why I love her character so much.

When it came to Jackson, I had a love-hate relationship with him while reading his point of view. He often came across as a jerk to Shiloh. He is definitely a morally ambiguous cowboy who is both possessive and protective of everyone, especially Shiloh, and may be over-the-top at times. He likes to show her off frequently, but if anyone dares to look at her, he quickly loses his temper.

As I mentioned earlier in my review, this was the first Dark Cowboy Romance book I’ve ever read. I expected it to be quite dark, but I found it to be less intense compared to other Dark Romance novels I’ve read. However, that didn’t prevent me from enjoying it; it was just softer than what I anticipated. This is just my opinion, so others might find it dark. I recommend checking the triggers that the authors list before reading the book.

I experienced some minor issues while reading this book, primarily due to abrupt shifts in the storyline. These shifts made me feel lost at times and prompted me to reread certain sections. One moment, the characters would be in one place, and in the next, they would suddenly be somewhere else. However, despite this, I remained engaged and motivated to continue reading, especially once the truth was revealed about how Jackson had known everything about Shiloh, and I was there for the moment she was going to confront him.

Overall, I give this book 3.5 stars and look forward to reading more in this series by Deliah Grant.

Single/Dual POV: Dual POV.

Please check the trigger warnings before diving in.

Leather & Lies is a scorching contemporary western romance featuring an unhinged cowboy who demands complete surrender from his curvy obsession, with forced proximity, lots of spice, and a battle of wills that will leave them both questioning who’s really being tamed.

Leather & Lies had a gripping premise: a fierce, independent heroine forced into a contract with a morally gray, questionably sane millionaire cowboy. Sign me up, right? And to its credit, the story starts strong. The worldbuilding was solid, Jackson’s toxic control issues were executed convincingly, and Shiloh’s resistance gave us that satisfying push-pull dynamic.

But the execution didn’t quite live up to the potential. The buildup to the spice fizzled rather than sizzled, and when things finally ignited, it felt too soon. Jackson talks a big game, but his threats rarely translate to on-page tension. Their chemistry lacked depth, and I found myself wishing for a slower burn with more lurking menace and psychological stakes.

That said, the darker, taboo-leaning themes added an edge you don’t often find in cowboy romance. The setting and tropes were intriguing, but the sparse character descriptions made it hard to fully picture them, and the repetitive dialogue, especially the overuse of pet names, wore thin in a short book.

Still, Jackson’s ruthless maneuvering and Shiloh’s refusal to back down made for an entertaining battle of wills. Their connection is equal parts raw and uneasy, teetering between control and surrender.

Overall, Leather & Lies is a bold ride through power, passion, and possession. If you're into morally messy characters and intense dynamics, it’s worth a shot. Just don’t expect a slow burn or deep dive into emotional complexity.
