Every hood is structured with three heads of the community. The three-headed snake that consists of the neighborhood king pin, the mayor, and the holy priest is meant to keep the community together without giving the perception that they are all on one accord. As holy as 28-year-old Priest Justice’s name may sound, his lethal and cutthroat dealings shed light on the fact that not every priest is holy, not every king pin is notorious, and not every mayor is diplomatic.
While standing trial for murder, Priest tries to live as normal of a life as possible, continuing to support his family while running multiple businesses, but when he
meets Britain Demings, a journalist with The New York Times who also happens to be the daughter of the man who raised Priest when his father wouldn’t, he finds an entirely new purpose in life, one that comes with deadly consequences if he fumbles the mission.
With everything he loves and holds dear riding on his street savvy, problem solving skills, and his lawyer’s ability to get him off, money, greed, and power entangle even the most loved and innocent people in his life into a world of deceit, hate, and scandal. Priest is dedicated to beating the odds and proving that things aren't always as they are portrayed, from the roughest corner boys to the hardest street king, but when gunplay enters the game, Priest and everyone around him stand the chance of losing so much more than their livelihoods, and Priest is left wondering who is really there for The Love of Priest.
I may be biased because I read this on Wattpad, but the fact that it is now published is amazing; these characters hold a special place in my heart. I know the book is divided into four parts because the writing format on Wattpad does not translate the same way as on Kindle, so if you are a new reader, it may appear to be dragging, but these characters are fully developed and we literally get to see them grow in detail, and I'm just happy to support a black Wattpad author taking the leap and publishing her work.
4 stars because talent deserves credit, but somebody should’ve told the editor “no.”
I first read this on Wattpad back in the day, so yes, I’m biased. The author has REAL talent, a strong voice, and the bones of a great story. Priest is a walking trauma magnet, which I lowkey loved finally, a messy MMC. With real kingpin issues and drama. Britain has potential too, but she needs to do a full personality software update before I’m rooting for their happy ending. Her lack of self worth and confidence while not working on herself is off putting but heyyy.
That said… the pacing? Rough in places. Some scenes went on forever, like we had unlimited page count. And the word *“slit” girl, please. If you’re gonna call it a 🐱🐱 two sentences later, just go full-send and be vulgar. Don’t tease us.
Also, I will NEVER EVER EVER care about Jazzy and Cameron. Side stories are fine, but not when Priest’s life is a soap opera on its own. Sevyn’s not winning Mother of the Year, but at least she’s not Slyvia, who truly set the bar underground.
And the timeline?? One minute it’s booty shorts season, next they’re handing out Thanksgiving turkeys, then suddenly they’re swimming in the Hamptons. Is it July or November? I’m dizzy.
All that aside, I really *do* like this story. It had heart, grit, and some laugh-out-loud moments. I just wish we got more of Priest’s actual rise instead of some of the fluff. Still, I’ll read anything this author writes just hoping next time, the editing matches the talent.
I’d give it 3.5 stars for real. This was a long book. A lot of repeating & not enough plot for me. Like why did everything happen at the end ? Why have I been to Britain’s apartment 30 times ? Do we live together? It was a lot of words but no words. Will I read the next book? Sure , I wanna see how he wins Britain back & I wanna know more about Jazzys nasty attitude ass.
Whew, Priest Justice had me stressed 😩. I was rooting for this man, truly. He’s 28, trying to find his gray in the middle of all this trial mess, and then here comes Britain Demings—journalist for The New York Times—doing the most. Lord, why is she like this?! Britain, girl… this man trusts you!
I liked them together once things started rolling, but I kept side-eyeing her ex, still floating in her thoughts like a ghost 👀. You knew that was gonna be a problem. And with over 600 pages, whew, you could feel something was bound to happen.
Jazzy was a handful (spoiled, but sweet), Mari didn’t deserve that outcome at all—it felt like trauma for the sake of trauma 😕—and by the end, I was like, “Brittian be doing too much.” The trial dragged longer than my patience, and we still never got a resolution 😩.
I get that this book was the setup for the series, but my goodness… the length really had no payoff for the reader’s effort. By page 600, I wanted to feel like I’d earned something.
Babies, when I tell you this book is 807 pages of pure adulterated good reading, please believe me💪🏾💯. Mrs. Rose M wrote these pages with her whole heart, soul, pen and paper. I kind of hated how the ending left off on a cliffhanger 😩but overall, this book is a 10 out of 10.
This book got me in a chokehold!! I love Priest & Britain real bad! Priest is just… a mannn hunni! The way he loves on Britain through all her insecurities & constantly reassures her is everything! He makes a point to constantly build up her self confidence & I just love that!! Wtbs Priest has a lot going on!! Idk if Britain has truly wrapped her head around everything that really comes with him or the possibility that he could be going away for a while! Leonard & June bogus asl I hate how they did Remi & Jru!!! I can’t wait to get into book 2 to see how this plays out!!
3,5 ⭐️ I remember reading this book many years ago on Wattpad, so I decided to reread it now that all the parts are finally published. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the dialogue between Priest and Britain being this cringe. There were way too many moments where it felt like I was reading dumb tweets or Instagram posts instead of an actual book.. BUT I still enjoyed this LONG ass book because of the nostalgia.
This book is everything! It has moved up to my top three most definitely for 2025!! This book had me riding on every single emotion. I am so sad yet not shocked at the way that it ended. It has my mind thinking of all the possibilities. This is definitely more than a five star book. This is a 10 out of 10 for me.
Let me start by saying that curiosity got the best of me, and I read the very last page first ...
... Okay, let's get started ...
This book was wordy and started slow. I was skipping multiple pages before page 45, and maybe that's why I didn't make the connection on how Priest got into the position of power he suddenly gained. I just decided he won the lotto
It was a bit repetitive. words and phrases I never want to read again: seared, orbs, and chortle (I have had a long-standing hatred for this word), feline like eyes.
Or when she would do things like: [Jazzy laughed lightly with a shrug. "I can handle them. He's just always sweating me." She dusted her shoulders off arrogantly. "Who? The assistant?" Priest’s brow rose. Jazzy laughed at the fact that Priest had just referred to Kev as the assistant.] Like, we already knew what she was laughing at. She did that a lot throughout the book, and I wondered if maybe she had a quota she needed to meet.
It picked up around page 70, and that's when I started to fall in love. Priest was a man through and through. He loved on Brit and allowed her to be herself. He always reassured her and spoke life into her. He was a nasty, nasty man, and I loved that for her 😊
Brit was so easy to like. She was funny and was just as good to Priest as he was to her. I loved her growth throughout the book. Finding her voice and confidence.
Cameron - he can die slow. <--- I wrote this waaaay before I got to the end of the book.
Sylvia - a hot mess
Jazz - I love her, and I pray to God she doesn't piss me off
Henderson really made me upset, and if I were Seven, I would be reevaluating my marriage.
I don't trust Paula b*tch ass
Things I absolutely loved: - They were MATURE - The men were MENNING 🙌🏾 - No baby momma drama - Originality in the storyline - They were NASTY 🥵 - Although there were a nice number of characters, everything flowed.
Rose can stub her pinky toe for making me cry over Jamari like that.
I would love a book on Cryo. I need to know who his mysterious ass is.
And although, I knew the ending of this book before reading it, it was still an amazing read. This book will have me in a choke hold for at least another week. That is why even with a few things that annoyed me, it still gets 5 stars. Patiently awaiting book 2.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed how easy it was to get to know Priest and Britain. Their love story wasn’t messy or full of drama, which was refreshing. The first 20% of the book really held my attention. But then, I’m not sure what happened.
A few minor things didn’t sit well with me. For instance, in one scene, it’s the week before Thanksgiving in New York, and Britain is wearing a crop top and jean shorts to Priest’s outdoor donation event. New York? In November? Okay.
Right after that, time passes, but how much? What happened to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s? Not that I care about those holidays personally, but Priest and Britain are still in the early stages of their relationship, and those are major milestones that could’ve added depth.
The author spends a lot of time detailing things that feel irrelevant like every time Priest enters his penthouse, he bypasses security, or how perfect his teeth are. Meanwhile, we’re left in the dark about major plot points. What’s going on with his trial? We jump from five years ago to him being a drug lord/entrepreneur. How? Did he win the lottery? How did we get here, Deborah Cox?!
In typical Urban Fiction, we usually get some of the most unhinged MMC an author can dream up. But not here. Priest, in my opinion, lets too much slide, like Jamari’s death, for example. And don’t even get me started on his mama.
Loveeeeed. This was a book I found on Wattpad a long time ago, that recently got published so I was excited for it.
I will give it 9.5/10 bc the love story is so genuine, easy, and refreshing. I love when the girlies are loved properly and the men know how to be men. You can see imperfections in both characters, but there ability to love each other through it while building each other up is healing.
The focus of part 1 seemed to be more on introducing the characters, developing their relationship, & seeing how they navigate through life now that they have each other. The romance and courting wasn’t lacking & this book was veryyyy steamy. You’ll get the butterflies with all the feels, but also the depth of the couple peeling layers off of each other. We get to see them be there for one other through the good, bad, & the ugly.
I will say for the book to be so long, I was suprised that we didn’t get more through to plot. I feel like we were left hanging about Priest trial which is the main plot point in the story. At one point I was asking myself like when is trial & did I miss it? I thought they were having a 2 week continuation & then months went by…
So, I think it could have been a little more clarity on the timeline & setting in general, but that doesn’t take away from the great writing and the story as a whole.
I’m looking forward to Part 2 & supporting Rose as she kickstarts her writing career.
Let me start by saying that I enjoyed every chapter in this book. The storyline, the characters, the backstory, absolutely everything.
Rose M, you did your big one with this book. The dynamics of all relationships are genius. Priest is the sweetest tortured soul. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He feels responsible for everyone and everything. And even though his life is complicated, he finds true love with Britain. Their relationship is not without its ups and downs, highs and lows. It's human and it's a living breathing thing that has both of them in a chokehold.
I cannot wait for the conclusion of this story. I'm curious to know what Cameron's endgame is with Jazzy. Is he on "get back" with Britain or is he the opps for June and Leonard. Who killed Jamari? Will Remy and J'Ru live? Will Seven and Henderson survive marriage, or will Seven rekindle with Remy? Will Britain forgive Priest? Will they get back together or stay apart? Will Priest go to prison or be given a reprieve? All questions we need answers to. So chop chop Ms. Rose M. I need you to put pen to paper Sis and get us a conclusion soon.
my only con is that it was a bit too wordy at times, which made it hard to read. that said, i loved how britain and priest’s bond grew! she deserves someone who uplifts her, unlike her ex. priest lets britain be herself, and she lets him lead. it’s such a natural dynamic compared to her previous relationship, where her ex felt like he had to break her down just to feel masculine. speaking of, cameron definitely met the right one in jazzy, because unlike britain, she’s no pushover so all that “breaking her backbone” shit won’t fly with her.
i really hope to see more development from britain. i was so disappointed when she said she’d forgive priest if he cheated. i thought she was growing. my girl needs to realize that she’s the prize!
i read this book on wattpad a while ago, so i’m glad the series is finally back and completed. i can’t wait to finally see how it all ends!
Chile I was running home everyday from work picking up this kindle..... Baby your writing skills are phenomenal. Priest is the truth. I cannot wait to read pt.2. Priest and Britian you crafted your characters meticulously. This some deep shit . Rose M. You may be my new favorite author. Keep bringing the heat
From the beginning to the end this book had me hooked. So much happened. The story just flowed. Baby Priest Justice is just that guy. Britain didn’t stand a chance. She deserve to be loved right she been through so much. U just hope Remy pull through. Jazzy run from that clown you at the dinner date with
The beginning was a little slow but I read a review which summed up why so I dove in. I was pleasantly impressed. I loved the way their relationship organically flowed. It was a little head butting but no exaggerated masculine energy by the FMC. Things happened smooth and not rushed, which I loved. Just enough spice and romance and a great storyline.
I just love this story and these characters so much! I originally read this book on Wattpad, so this definitely isn’t my first or even second time reading it. And honestly? My feelings haven’t changed a bit. It still hits just as hard every time. I’m so attached to these characters, and I'm ready for book 2.
I’m so confused about what I just read!! It was long for no reason, the scenes drug out while not really saying anything. Then to end on a cliff like someone is going to give up more precious time. NO. I will google if Priest is convicted.
Who is Rose M because she is goood ! 800 pages of straight magic. This is real urban fiction, the plot, the characters, the trauma, that cliffhanger? I was hooked. Couldn't put it down. Can’t wait to start part 2
This is my first time reading from this author, and I had no idea what to expect but book one has me HOOKED! I love priest and Britain’s relationship so much love, growth, healing, authentic, nonjudgmental healthy relationship. Can’t wait to continue their journey
First I want to say the book is good but its long and being that its a slow burn i mean the slowest burn out of 679 pages its 3 more books smh its good though im just not a slow burn fan and Britain get on my nerves.
This the first book I’ve read by this author. And there was so much to unpack! The twist and turns! The f’ed up family members! Britain and her overly dramatic behind! Where is part 2
