Dr. Shayla Rodgers has dedicated her life to helping people, which is why she never expected to find herself skirting the edges of the law. But her sense of right and wrong is only eclipsed by her love for her family, so when her brother once again finds trouble, she’ll do whatever it takes to rescue him.
Demon is all for having a good time, and the money and excitement that came with the underground-fight scene used to be just that. But things are changing, and he’s willing to admit that the once-good times have gotten pretty stale. Yet when the lovely Dr. Rodgers arrives, his interest is sparked and he finds that the scene might not be quite so boring after all.
Though Shayla struggles to keep her distance, she’s pulled deeper into the darkness—and her desire for Demon—and as she tries to protect her brother, she finds that all she holds dear: her career, her family, and her heart, are at risk…
There wasn't a lot of action or drama in this book as there was in the first one. The story wax ok. I'm sorry I didn't get to find out about grandma. Or if her and her bestie ever realize that they are involved with "friends".
What happened after Shayla’s grandmother died? Did Ian really break all ties with his sister that easily, or were there residual efforts on his part to keep it going? The author doesn’t let the reader in on this. Julie and Shayla were the best of friends in Devil’s Playing. Devil and Demond were friends, but there wasn’t any mention of either in the story, why? Where does Plaything come into play?
This book was pretty run good. Shayla's family dynamics were interesting; from her sometimes strained relationship with her grandmother to always needing to save her brother. It was kind of sad though, the pressure to always get her brother out of his jams. But that was Shayla's personality. Her brother was lower than I thought, once we find out the details of what he dragged her into. I would've like to know Demons story, his background. we really find out almost nothing about him. How he got involved in somewhat shady dealings, why he felt being with Shayla wasn't good. I wish we could have seen some more of Devil in this book, because they are connected that way, though they never even realized it in the book.
I liked the book though. I liked how Demon liked Shayla immediately. I liked the banter, when Shayla wasn't angry for one reason or another. The sex was pretty good. Not as good as the first book, but I am looking forward to the next.
