When Addie is offered an English professor role that is too good to refuse, she finds herself packing her life up in Montreal, where she has lived for over a decade, and returning to London.
Eli Jenkins is a burnt-out chef, living a lonely existence. In search of a fresh start, he moves from Manchester to London, a city he never saw himself returning to after he was cut off by his family. But he’s found a job that might help him achieve that elusive work-life balance.
To help ease the transition back to London, Addie’s mum, Vivi, offers Eli and Addie a flat to live in, so long as they’re both fine with a flatmate.
They are more than happy to share the space, but little does Addie know, her new flatmate is the former school rival that she hated passionately for the two years they shared a classroom.
Now adults and living in close quarters, Addie is starting to realise that the line between hate and lust might be thinner than she was willing to admit. As the sexual tension between them increases, they agree to get it out of their systems just once. But then that ‘once’ becomes a friends-with-benefits arrangement, with one key rule: don’t fall in love.
But the thing about rules is that, when real feelings come into play, they’re impossible not to break.
Londoner. Writer. Reader. Breaks the rules of grammar far too often for someone with an English degree. Enjoys getting idiots to fall in love and kiss each other (and get secret tattoos for one another).
I was going to rate this book 4.5 and 4 goodreads stars but I feel like marking it as 5.
The pacing here and the vibes were DELICIOUS. It’s well written, well paced, the characters are well built, same for the secondary ones too. Childhood (school) enemies (kind of one sided tho) to friends to lovers. Eli had a crush on Addie back in school, she was adamant he was a bane of her existence. They start to develop friendship first over text before Addie moves back to London cause they are about to be flatmates. He knows who she is, but she doesn’t cause Eli used to go by his full name back in school (Elijah) and he changed his last name in the meantime. This is NOT enemies to lovers trope, it’s very much what I mentioned above (school enemies -> strangers -> friends -> friends with benefits -> you know what’s next 😏) with very good dialogues and sometimes such a good banter (it’s not filled with banter to the brim but when they do banter it’s so good!) Both of the main characters have some trauma in the past, but it’s written in a way that is not overwhelming for the reader. The whole family gives such a nice and cozy vibe. It was immensely enjoyable to dive into the world of all these characters. The writing style makes it quite a fast read but in a peaceful way. At least to me it was still quite a fast read but I didn’t feel like I’m running through it, more like peacefully flowing. If I wasn’t reading multiple books at the same time, this would be a 24-48h read. I loved the spice in this book! It didn’t feel overly spicy, but at the same time was pretty spicy. I would have to count the scenes, but I feel like there were not that many of them, so it was more of a quality than quantity ;). It doesn’t happen often cause I read a ton of books with spice so I’m familiar with pretty much A LOT of types of scenes, but I did learn one or two new things from this book 👀
Special mention: -the rules/boundaries conversation was so good!!! -once I’m finished with this review I’m going to google “Troy Bolton bet on it tshirt” -the “silly little questions” ❤️ (it’s a thing they do, ask each other random questions. I’ve read couple of books with such microtrope but somehow it felt different here (in a good way!))
I really wanted to write short review but oh well, once again it’s way too long. Sorry not sorry?
TBH I could have rated it 5 stars solely because: -change my mind by 1d is on the playlist -the Troy Bolton tshirt thing -the slumber party the girls have with watching miss congeniality
Oh my word. What can I say? I’m a sucker for the whole forced proximity, flatmates, friends-with-benefits, and former rivals tropes. A perfect romcom when you need a quick read to lift your mood.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. I received Change My Mind as an ARC release and wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m so glad I gave it a go, because it’s a romcom right up my alley. I definitely need to read the first book now!
We have Eli and Addie, our two lovable idiot MCs, and I found myself relating to both of them. Each has enough emotional depth to feel genuine and make their story real. I loved how it’s just two people becoming a safe place for each other.
I found their relationship refreshing, both emotionally and physically. The chemistry and banter could definitely be felt — as expected with the former school rivals trope. Overall, I highly recommend it, and I’ll be waiting (impatiently) for this to be turned into a movie ASAP. Ooh, and hopefully more to come from this universe’s characters!
Sensual, wry, and deliciously hot, this book was a fast-paced but well-written loathing to love story with modern sensibilities and lots of steamy bits. Academic and Shakespearean savant Addie has had plenty of uncomplicated physical encounters but has never wanted nor expected to find love. She especially doesn’t expect anything other than mutually sated lust to develop from her new flatmate who just so happens to be her former adolescent academic rival.
Gifted but burnt out chef Eli finds the position of his dreams in a family owned restaurant where he has creative control, days off, and will never be made to work a double shift. When his teenage crush Addie arrives as his flatmate, even more gorgeous as a woman turning thirty, his life becomes even more exciting, and their benefits quickly expand from just sharing the same living space. Eli wants forever, Addie is certain she’s only in it for the good vibes.
How on earth can two people with such divergent wants find their HEA?
I was provided an advance reader copy from Love Notes PR, and I’m pleased to share my honest review and enthusiastic recommendation.
This book was so, so good, and such an entertaining read for these dark and rainy evenings. Friends with benefits situation between two flatmates who are also ex academic rivals?! Yes please!🙌🏼😍
I absolutely adored Addie. She knew what she wanted, at least most of the time. She was straightforward and she didn't shy away easily. I loved how strong of an FMC she was🔥👑
Eli wasn't afraid to cry or to show and talk about his emotions. Not just to Addie, but also to her friends, like Jesse and Clara. It was so nice and refreshing to see, he was such a sweetheart!🫶🏼
I absolutely loved how well balanced the story was. There were some s€x scenes that were scorching hottt🔥but they didn't take away from the story or the plot at all. There were also deeper, more serious moments and topics that made me cry, and at the same time light, fun, sweet scenes that made me giggle and grin. I feel like the balance between those was absolutely perfect.
The first half of the book was a little slow and uneventful for me, even though it was necessary for the story. But the second half?! Oooh I was hooked, I read it in a day. I picked this book up every second I could, I was totally addicted!😩
Unfortunately, the ending of this felt a little unfinished for me. Mostly because of the whole Josh situation, since he did end up causing some trouble at the end. I just felt like I was left unsure whether Josh was going to cause more trouble or not.
But overall, this was a beautiful story with lovable characters and a fun plot🫶🏼💕
-Thank you to the author and Love Notes PR for the arc-
First of all, thank you to LoveNotesPR and the author for allowing me to read this arc!
I'm giving this book 4.5 stars! I enjoyed this book so much!! The characters are really likable, and I think, for some people, just not for me, relatable. The childhood academic rivals and in the present they are now friends. I love that! At the moment, there isn't anything I can think of I didn't like about this book.
Highly recommend reading this book to any of you!! But be aware that this book contains spice scenes, but they are mentioned at the beginning of the book. What I appreciate is how openly they talked about sleeping together and what each of them wanted and didn't want in the bedroom. That's so important to see in books, in my opinion.
I would say, go get your book now and read it asap!!
If you like friends with benefits and forced proximity, you will love this novel!
The relationship between Addie and Eli starts off very hostile (from lingering teenage rivalry) but watching them become friends as adults was so sweet. Their FWB arrangement was awkward at the start but provided some very funny moments plus some very spicy scenes! My favourite part was when Addie took care of Eli when he was sick and when they went house shopping together 😍 It’s the little moments that really count in a relationship right?
Tropes: Enemies to friends to lovers Friends with benefits Forced proximity Second chance Mutual pining Caretaking
This was a super cute, easy and fun read! The characters had great personality and chemistry! I loved how intelligent Addie is and she isn't afraid to show it off. Love a man who can cook some bomb food. I also love how much we got to see Jesse and Clara!! They are my favorite!! Thank you for the ARC, can't wait for Rachel's book;)
A romcom, childhood rivals to strangers to friends, with witty characters and feel-good fuzzy familial bonds. Thanks so much to Love Notes PR and the author for the ARC!
🌟🌟🌟🌟
"If you told fifteen-year-old me that I would be in what some might call a routine with the worst boy to ever exist in my universe, I would have punched you in the face. But at nearly thirty, that is what Eli and I had. A routine."
Addie leaves Montreal to return to her family in London, taking up a job as a university teacher on all things Shakespeare. What she doesn't expect is that her new flat mate - who she has been texting prior to her move - would be her childhood rival.
Eli has come back to London to work as a chef in Addie's parents restaurant. He has had a schoolboy crush on Addie which seemingly has not dissipated in their adulthood. She is just as confident, clever, witty and has those same emerald green eyes that glared at him in their childhood. As Addie settles in to her new life, their forced proximity forces them to acknowledge their chemistry. What starts as one night, turns into several as they try to scratch that itch. But can Addie learn to open her heart and mind to love, and can Eli get past his trauma to accept a different kind of love?
I was pleasantly surprised by the connection I developed with the story and characters. Every bond in this was so authentic - it was hard not to fall for them! Addie's relationship with her sisters was a highlight. These intelligent, witty, academic women just kept delivering moment after moment of joy. I also adored how Addies parents embraced Eli. He is so deserving of that kind of love! As a retired hospitality girl myself, I especially appreciated how the parents – even as bosses – emphasised caring for others and putting wellbeing first.
Eli and Addie’s chemistry absolutely leapt off the page. Their banter was sharp, funny, and every bit as addictive as what I get from an Ali Hazelwood book. I’m firmly on team #BringBackYearning - and boy, did Eli yearn. This slow-burn romance was packed with emotional tension, creating deliciously painful moments where walls start to crack. Watching Addie slowly let her walls down was pure, exquisite torture. And honestly, how can you resist a man who cooks bomb-ass food?
Overall, I couldn't put the book down and was a perfect palate cleanser with feel-good moments and genuine emotional healing. I'd recommend!
What's included: 💚 Slow-burn 💙 Yearning 💚 Former School Rivals 💙 Second chance 💚 Forced Proximity 💙 Friends With Benefits to Lovers 💚 Shakespeare Savant
I had such a great time while reading this book for many reasons, but mostly because their relationship flowed so perfectly, even though the bumps in the way, they keep being there for eachother in their highs and lows as roommates, as friends, and as more.
Now, they really did match each other's freak, from the "hallway gate" to her birthday scene, and all the way to the end of the book the spice was immaculate, Eli was one of the most true bisexual characters I've read in a bit.
And while wish we had a bit more explanation on the family dynamics specifically on the parents/partners - sisters of it all because i was lost there i don't know who is whos dad, nor do i know what happened in the parents relationship that seem to be relevant to the plot of the book and yet there's no explanation at all in the whole book, is still a great read with amazing diverse characters and representation and the most lovable found family so you should give it a try.
~Blurb~ Addie Considered Eli to be "the bane of her existence" when they were growing up, what she didn't know is that she was the object of all Eli's desires. And 14 years after they met and had a scholar rivalry they're both back in London and are surprised to suddenly become roommates, and it turns out that as adults they can manage to get along.
But the sexual tension keeps growing between them they decide to get it out of their systems and end up in a friends with benefits arrangement with the most obviously breakable rule of all: Eli can't fall in love with Addie

Change My Mind by Sophie Thomas already out and available on Kindle Unlimited, make sure to check it out!
Thanks to Sophie Thomas and Love Notes PR for sending this ARC in exchange for my honest review ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I am throughly in love with Sophie Thomas’ books! This was absolutely perfect! The world and the characters she’s created make my heart so happy. I can’t wait to be back with these characters, and Rachel’s next?? And I think that’s going to be so much fun! And even to be back with her other series will be such a delight as well! I just love her writing so much!
I love how close Addie and her family are, even with her feeling like she was on the outside looking in - it was so clear how much love they all had for each other. I really loved seeing how easily Eli was folded right into the chaos, how much he needed and finally got a proper support system and how BEAUTIFUL it was to see him thriving with that support.
I loooooooved Addie and Eli so much! They both have a tough exterior but are so incredibly soft on the inside! And they compliment each other SO WELL. There is something about rivals to lovers that just HITS SO GOOD! And then you throw in the forced proximity bc they’re roommates and then they give into the sexual tension!!! And then their friends with benefits!! Everything about them was written so well!! They were sweet and soft and they had SO MUCH FUN together!!!
Sophie’s also able to balance the romance with emotional topics so well. Eli deals with the grief of losing his mother in a daily basis, its affected other relationships and he isn’t quite sure how to actually deal with it, so he doesn’t. But he’s now in a healthy and supportive environment!!! And seeing him struggle to accept that?? Take the help??? Felt so relatable!! Also him and Jessie are quite literally EVERYTHING to me! I love their friendship! And everyone really! Everyone was SO WILLING to help him when he needed it and it was so beautiful!!!
Also thank you thank you thank you to Sophie herself, I won this in a giveaway and I am so so grateful!!!
This book was so sweet and heartfelt — I loved every second of it. There’s something about Sophie Thomas’s writing that makes me smile and believe in fairytale love.
Adi and Eli were perfect for each other. I was expecting a little bit of “rivals to lovers” energy since they studied together when they were younger and Adi couldn’t stand Eli, but I was pleasantly surprised by how their romance developed. They started with a clean slate, and I loved how they would just blurt out random facts at times. Their connection grew from those tiny bits of shared information, which made their moments together even sweeter.
I really loved their dynamic — being there for each other not just in difficult times, but in the little happy moments too. I especially loved that they added a clause to their friends-with-benefits arrangement, preventing them from having sex to avoid talking about their feelings or if they had particularly fay. It forced them to communicate more openly, even when both of them tended to avoid emotional conversations.
Even though I had a great time reading their story, I feel like some topics were only explored on the surface — like Adi feeling left out of her friend group even though she lived just 20 minutes away, or Eli’s panic attacks. I would have loved to see those issues explored more deeply, such as Adi expressing how she truly felt to her friends, or Eli going to therapy for his anxiety.
Still, it was so great to see the band back together, and honestly, I can’t wait for the rest of the books. Also… what’s happening with Becky and Gavin?? I thought they were perfect for each other back in Clara’s book — what changed? And for the next books, I definitely need more of Jesse and Eli’s bromance. That cuddling scene was one of my absolute favorites!
Thank you so much to Love Notes PR and the author for the opportunity to read this book — I can’t wait for what’s next! 💕
✨ ARC BOOK REVIEW✨ 📚 “What happens when your flatmate is the person you used to loathe in school?”
🤔What it’s about: Addie Henry left London for a decade, and now she’s back to take up a dream job teaching English. Her mum offers a flat share to help her settle in, and unlucky for her (or maybe lucky…), her new flatmate is Eli Jenkins — the guy she used to despise in school. What starts with disdain and awkward hallway passes turns into something else entirely. A shared flat, one rule (don’t fall in love), and two very different adults who might just break it all.
💙Why you’ll love it: * It’s the friends/flatmates-to-lovers romantic trope done with a fresh spin: old-school rivalry meets adult vulnerability. * Sophie Thomas brings warm emotional stakes: Addie’s returning home, rebuilding, facing past and present. * The setting (London, shared space) gives it a modern, grounded feel amidst the romance.
A few caveats: * The book is not yet released (due Nov 6, 2025) so you’ll be in the “can’t wait” zone. 🗓️ * If you’re looking for epic angst or super slow-burn, this one leans more into the feel-good, moving-forward vibe.
Final verdict: If you crave an adult contemporary romance that’s smart, emotionally satisfying and has the “hate-turns-into-maybe-love” energy, Change My Mind is a solid pick. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐ (4/5)
📚Addie is offered an opportunity to return home and teach at a university as an English professor. This is the chance for Addy to finally be home and surrounded by her family and friends.
📚Eli is a chef who is completely burnt out and has been living a lonely lifestyle. When the opportunity arises for him to, he takes it as a way of getting a fresh start.
📚Addie and Eli have history because they were academic rivals when they were in school. Things get a bit heated when Addie returns home to live in an apartment that Eli is also living in.
📚This book was so much fun, especially with the banter that was going on between Eli and Addie. What I really love about this book is the way that Sophie is able to incorporate supporting characters without taking away from the plot of the main characters. I love that Addie was able to feel like she belonged at home, and I'm glad that Eli was able to find the love, support, and community that he had longed for.
📚And I will say the steamy scenes were a 10/10.
📚Change My Mind highlights the importance of self-care, a community of love, and what it means to be okay with changing your mind.
📚I give Change My Mind 4⭐️. I enjoyed all the laughter and reflective moments, and I can't wait to see what Sophie writes next.
Change my mind is a flatmate, friends with benefits, former school rivals romance. Im not going to lie, I thought we were off to a slow start and wasn't sure what to think but by the end I actually really enjoyed the story!
Adrienne “Addie” returns to London after more than a decade in Montreal to take up a dream job as an English professor. Meanwhile, MMC chef Eli who is looking for a new start, also finds himself back in the city he once left behind. Through a twist of fate — and Addie’s well-meaning mother — the two end up sharing a flat.
There’s just one problem: Eli and Addie were fierce rivals in school, and old tensions quickly resurface. But as they navigate adult life, that old animosity starts to blur into something far more complicated. A casual, no-strings “friends-with-benefits” agreement seems like the perfect outlet — until real feelings begin to surface and their one rule, don’t fall in love, proves impossible to keep.
This is a witty, slow-burn romance about second chances, confronting the past, and discovering that love often hides behind the last person you expect.
Thank you to Love Notes PR and author Sophie Thomas for the opportunity to read this eARC! 💌
I’m so happy to be writing this review! This is my third book by Sophie Thomas, and once again, I absolutely loved it. Change My Mind is book #2 in The Love You Want series. It can definitely be read as a standalone, but I found it even more enjoyable because I’d already met Clara and Jesse in Summer of Love and I loved seeing their story continue to grow.
And THAT scene between Jesse and Eli? I screamed. 😭🫂
This story follows Ads (Adrienne) and Eli (Elijah), who used to be intellectual enemies, but over time became friends, then friends with benefits… and, well, you can imagine what happens next. 🥵
The spice level is just right, and I love how open the male characters are to exploring and expressing their sexuality.
Sophie Thomas writes vulnerable men which I love and Eli completely stole my heart. His panic attacks, his emotions, his tenderness… everything about him felt so real and touching. Men written by Sophie Thomas are just chef’s kiss 🤌🏻💋 I can’t wait to read more from her in the future!
There is nothing better than former school rivals trope. It always means that they will be softer towards each other after growing up, but they still manage to have amazing banter (which this book had in spades).
I loved that they would always ask each other random questions that were lighthearted, but still helped them to get to know each other better. I feel like they were so well-matched, especially academically. It allowed them to have deeper conversations about different subjects, and they were both truly interested in what the other felt and thought about certain topics.
I also love that Addie was in so much denial about her falling for Eli. It was extremely obvious to everyone except her (and Eli). It was so adorable that Eli was down so bad for her (and had been since the moment they met).
This book was just so cute and the banter was absolutely amazing!!
tropes -former school rivals -roommates -forced proximity -friends with benefits
Thank you Sophie and LoveNotes PR for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!!
Once upon a time, Addy had an academic rival named Elijah. He was the “bane of her existence.” Even after all these years her mind still thinks about him. When she moves back home to be closer to her family, to her utter shock Elijah (now Eli) just so happens to be her new flatmate. And this time, Addy and Eli can’t ignore the attraction they have for each other…
They’re roommates AND friends with benefits? Oh, and they also used to be academic rivals? Yes, please!!
Every book that Sophie Thomas writes is an absolute joy to read. Her characters are so vibrant yet also so sensitive and emotional. I loved this book DEEPLY!
Addy and Eli were so special to me. They both had so much hurt from their past which resulted in some miscommunication concerning their “situationship.” And yet, despite that, they still held so much tenderness and care for the other.
Change My Mind is book two in the series. While it “can” be read on its own, this book draws a lot from past knowledge of characters from Summer of Love.
~ I loved this book! Addie and Eli’s story is delicious, well-written, and engaging. They go from childhood rivals to strangers who text, then friends, and finally something more, with intense chemistry and funny dialogues that made me smile many times. Both have past traumas, but they are handled lightly, making them feel real and relatable.
~ Their dynamic, the forced proximity as flatmates, and the slow evolution of their relationship is just perfect. The romantic and steamy scenes are well-balanced and impactful, and I loved how their friendship slowly turns into something deeper. The family and friends around them make the story warm and fun, adding so much charm.
~ It was a quick and enjoyable read, with a good mix of romance, humor, and emotion. The chemistry between the main characters, the slow-burn, and the “found family” vibe made me root for them from start to finish.
۶ৎ Highly recommend for anyone who loves modern, fun romcoms!
I adore Sophie ! Her writing always brings me joy and keeps me on the edge of my seat. First of all, rivals who are roommates and then friends with benefits. How do you just do that in one book!!! Well Sophie did and she does it well. There’s so much depth,
Eli and Addie had me in a chokehold. There’s so much banter. So much tension. And the chemistry is off the charts. I loved how this book was a good palette cleanser too. There’s emotions for sure because each character has their own story too, and there are some heartfelt moments about their own lives that are deeply connected to who they are but overall this book was a nice and easy read. I loved that it focused on them really connecting and coming together.
Sophie’s writing is also amazing. I’ve read two of her books before and enjoyed them so much. I can’t wait for the next one!!
Thank you Sophie ! And thank you loves notes for the read!!
I think this was a great follow up to the first book. I really liked the history of Addie and Eli, especially the fact that even though she is so intellectual she didn’t realize she had a crush on him in the past. I loved how her character had to come to terms with her own friendship dynamics and her feelings. I really felt who she was. Eli is such a sweetheart. The pain his family caused is intense and add layers to him as a person. They both complimented each other on their own way. It shows even in the small details in their routine and how they show up for each other.
If you like rivals to lovers then this book is for you. I think this book is a must on your reading list. It will make you giggle, swoon and blush!!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my first time reading Sophie Thomas, and it certainly won't be my last! Change My Mind is the perfect blend of witty banter, genuine emotional depth, and absolute culinary delight.
From the very first page, I was hooked by the dynamic between Addie (the structured English professor) and Eli (the talented, troubled chef). Their back and forth had me giggling through every chapter, and the sexual tension was perfectly slow burn.
But what really elevates this book is Eli. He officially joins my "dreamy book boyfriend" club, piercings, trauma, and all. Paired with the constant mention of the food (seriously, I was craving lemon pasta like it was a love language!).
If you love the "rivals to lovers" trope, intellectual heroines, heroes with a soft interior, and romance with a side of gourmet food, pick this up immediately! Highly recommend.
Change My Mind by Sophie Thomas completely stole my heart. It’s one of those stories that quietly sneaks up on you — the kind where the characters feel so real that you start rooting for them without even realizing it. The emotional tension, the slow unraveling of feelings, and the way misunderstandings are handled all felt raw and genuine.
What I loved most was how the author balanced vulnerability with hope. The writing is simple yet deeply expressive — every line carries meaning, and the chemistry between the leads is impossible to ignore. It’s the kind of book that lingers with you long after you’ve turned the last page, making you rethink love, timing, and second chances.
If you enjoy heartfelt, character-driven romance with emotional depth, Change My Mind is a must-read.
I read this book in a day and it was delicious. A delightful little romp, with surprisingly good pacing and just the right amount of miscommunication tropes! Addie was likeable, Eli was precious and it did really feel like a love letter to dating in London in your thirties! The number of sisters and friends really confused me but once I stopped trying to figure out who was who, I got over that quickly. Shout out to Jesse, a total guy’s guy and I loved him for it. Maybe a family tree in the appendix though?
Thanks to Love Notes PR for the early copy! Happy release week to Change My Mind! 💕
A quick and easy read, Change My Mind tells the tale of former school rivals Addie and Eli, now unexpectedly flatmates as they continue on with their adult jobs — Addie, an English professor, and Eli, a chef at her father’s restaurant. As the physical attraction between them grows, they struggle to admit they broke their number one rule when striking a friends-with-benefits deal: “Don’t fall in love.”
Change My Mind was such a fun read and I really enjoyed the elaborate attention to detail in Thomas’ writing. Safe to say I will definitely be continuing on with The Love You Want series and the Henry sisters’ love stories!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Childhood rivals turned into a second-chance romance? Yes, please. The banter between Addie and Eli is exactly the kind that keeps you turning pages—sharp, playful, and full of tension. I’m also a sucker for forced proximity, and this book nails it. Two rivals suddenly becoming flatmates and then sliding into friends-with-benefits territory? Perfection.
The chemistry was great, the spice was just the right amount, and watching their dynamic shift from enemies to something deeper was so satisfying. If you love flirty tension, forced proximity, and a solid second-chance arc, this one is definitely worth picking up.
I stumbled onto Sophie Thomas from I believe another author's suggestion. HELLA grateful
Change My Mind is the second book in The Love You Want series, following Summer of Love. We are brought to the story in Adrienne/Addie's perspective, the wicked smart FMC [who is sisters with the FMC from Summer of Love] who finds her way back to London after living in Canada for several years. She finds herself sharing a flat with her rival Eli from high school (I believe they call it uni?) who is well aware he had a crush on her back then. She is unwilling to admit it's mutual. Eli is the MMC who is also working for Addie's dad in the family restaurant.
The relationship between Addie and Eli goes from competitive to admiration, and when you add the attraction it becomes a fireworks display. Once they build the emotional depth amidst the assumptions and pining, it's quite the grand finale. The spice is very much spark to explosion, and I can confidently say I learned something new. THAT in of itself is saying a lot, considering the amount and genre of spice I've read. 😂😂😂
✨Arc Review✨ 3.5⭐️ I enjoy this very much! Eli and Addie were super cute individually and also together. Their dynamic was entertaining to see and the found family and banter were also very positive points that made me like the book more. I just felt like not much happened and the miscommunication didn’t help. They’re in their 30th so they should’ve been able to sit down and talk instead of misreading something and act accordingly with it but it was definitely a good read and I for sure want to read the next when it comes out.
Thanks to the author and to Love Notes PR for an e-ARC of this book. I thought this story was very sweet. I loved Eli. He was such a sensitive, kind MMC. I liked Addie too and her very blunt way about her. The two were funny together. I thought there would be a huge thing that happened, but it was pretty mild. Just enough drama. I was very confused about the family tree and who all were related, but that’s on me for not having read the first book. Overall, I really liked these characters and the story!
- Rivals to friends to lovers - Close proximity - He falls first
I had the pleasure of reading this book, which features one of my favorite tropes: friends to lovers. But the feelings for the relationship are not the same for Eli and his friend and roommate Addie. Addie is only interested in a physical relationship, where Eli has liked Addie for quite a few years.
The thing that set this romance apart from others is the open communication between the two.
This is the second book in the series, but can be read as a standalone.
