Welcome back to Thistlebrook, where raccoons start turf wars at the library, firefighters have dad jokes locked and loaded, and starting over is messy, hilarious, and a whole lotta sexy.
Kenni Colburn has spent the last nineteen years being the perfect wife, the greatest hockey mom, and the glue holding everyone else together—while her husband built a secret second family. But now that her twins are off to college, she’s done being the woman who puts herself last. Kenni is packing up her car and heading home to Thistlebrook to reclaim her maiden name, her happiness, and maybe even her wild streak.
Dean has been in love with Kenni since he was fourteen, but timing has never been on their side, especially since she’s his sister’s best friend and is also the sister of his baby mama. That might not have been his finest moment… Dean is not only the best dad imaginable, but the most reliable firefighter in a community that loves him even if he didn’t marry the woman he knocked up. She wasn’t the one, and he wasn’t settling for anything but the best.
Now, Kenni is back—fierce and finally free—and Dean knows he’s not letting her slip away this time, even if it means burning every excuse to ashes.
Small towns are supposed to be quiet, but in Thistlebrook, exes return, secrets explode, friendships rally, and second chances set the entire romance section of the library on fire, sometimes literally. Kenni is ready to start over, but she never expected to fall into the arms—and the bed—of the man who’s always been there.
Heartfelt, hilarious, and brimming with found family, small-town chaos, and a swoony firefighter hero who’s waited too damn long, Starting over with You will leave you cheering for Kenni’s era—and maybe texting your bestie to grab Fireball and smash some dinner plates inscribed with the names of all the people who did you wrong against the side of the Smoky Mountains.

I am also a wife to my amazing husband, mother of a wrestler and a gymnast, and also a fur momma to Phoebe, Gaston el Papillon & Winston.
You can usually find me hollering for the whole Nashville Predators since I'll never give my heart to one player again. When I'm not in the gym getting swole, I'm usually writing, trying to make my dreams a reality or being a taxi for my kids. I'm obsessed with Harry Potter, Supernatural, Disney and anything that sparkles! I'm pretty sure I was Belle in a past life and if I could be on any show it would be supernatural so I can hunt with Sam and Dean.
“Look at you with your slutty little stache. I can’t even.”
Book two of the “Beer League Belles” series sucked me in even more than the first! Dean and Kenni, close friends growing up through their sisters. They were each other’s first kiss, even if they were pressured into it by said sisters. They parted ways to go to different colleges, where Kenni gets pregnant with twin boys. Shortly after, Dean also has a child of his own—with none other than Kenni’s sister, Missy. Talk about drama!
After a devastating separation between Kenni and her husband of 19 years, she moves back home to be close to her family and try to heal. And this is only the beginning of the story! If you love single moms/single dads, hockey players, firefighters, and second chances—PICK THIS UP!
Second in a new series from my favorite hockey romance author, Toni Aleo, this novel had a lot of fun and a bit of steaminess. There's Kenni - she's finally able to leave her cheating husband since her twin boys are off to college. Kenni is starting over back in Thistlebrook, a small Tennessee town nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. She wants to reclaim her life. And then there's Dean. He's the fire chief in Thistlebrook and the guy that Kenni had a teenage crush on. Add to that he's a single dad (and the baby mama is Missy, Kenni's sister...it's complicated) and his sister Sadie is Kenni's best friend. They were bound to be thrown together...and when they do, sparks fly. There's plenty of buildup as Dean gives Kenni the space she needs to figure out how to fit into her new life. There's plenty of small town humor and there are some interludes with the kids of Kenni and Dean texting each other that are laugh out loud funny. If you appreciate a small town, second chance romance, this should be on your to read list.
4.5 stars, rounded to 5
Quote I liked:
...the best years of your life will be the ones we have together.
This is one of those books where a lot is going on, yet it all works. The use of multiple character, giving depth to story while not taking away from the main plot. Great dialogue and multiple angles in which each person is portrayed…I must say, Toni Aleo is pretty damn talented. Her work keeps me reading and I love how she sees love. In every form, through spans of time, and with a completeness only she can deliver.
This story follows KenniLeigh and Dean…a stay at home mom, who finds her life to be nothing but a sham, and the sexy firefighter who happens to have loved her his whole life. Reuniting, am it feels so good! Oh, but not before her two best friends, the kids, some other dudes who have their own issues, all interfere one way or another. It’s really sweet chaos.
Loved it. Looking forward to the next book in this series, although this one had very little to do with Hockey. But honestly? I’m not sad about it.
Toni Aleo does it again with this dynamic story of friendship, yearning and love. With sassy strong women and a chance to begin anew this book brings us many emotions and opportunities to dream for our main characters. I look forward to the next in the series.
Oh, Toni Aleo… she really knows how to make us fall in love with a small town, doesn’t she? Starting Over with You takes us back to Thistlebrook—a place where firefighters come armed with dad jokes, raccoons start turf wars at the library, and love always finds a way (no matter how messy). Kenni Colburn is finally reclaiming her life after years of putting everyone else first. She spent nineteen years married to a man who chipped away at her spirit—and while raising twins who adore her, she quietly carried the weight of his betrayal. (Yep, the jerk had another family on the side. Double trash. 🙄) Once her boys headed off to college, Kenni decided it was finally her turn—to take back her name, her joy, and her freedom. What she didn’t expect? Coming face-to-face with Dean Moore—the firefighter single dad, her teenage crush, and the man she thought would never see her that way. Turns out, Dean has been carrying the same torch all along. Their history is complicated (Dean’s daughter is also Kenni’s niece, courtesy of a regrettable night years ago), but their chemistry? Off the charts. What I adored most was the small-town magic. Everyone knows everyone, which means plenty of hilarious meddling, heartfelt moments, and, of course, Shenanigans Inc. Kenni, Missy, and Sadie had me laughing one moment and tearing up the next. Their chaos is pure gold, and honestly, poor Dean deserves a medal for surviving them all his life—but also bonus points because he never hesitates to show up for Kenni. That man is everything. And let’s talk about the side stories for a second—the cousins’ group chat was a chef’s kiss touch. Skyye, Ash, and Flint cracked me up so much I could read a whole spin-off of just their antics. It was such a clever way to add levity while showing how strong and playful family ties can be. As for Dean and Kenni? Their romance is the very definition of worth the wait. Dean is the ultimate cinnamon-roll firefighter hero (with just the right edge of dirty talk), and Kenni’s mix of strength and vulnerability made her so relatable. Their slow-burn build had me swooning, and when they finally give in—🔥 fireworks. Toni Aleo delivers it all here: heartfelt second chances, laugh-out-loud small-town chaos, found family, and plenty of swoony spice. By the end, I was smiling through tears and already wishing for my next trip back to Thistlebrook. Starting Over with You is about rediscovering yourself, finding joy after heartbreak, and falling (again) for the one who’s always been there. Warm, funny, and beautifully emotional—I couldn’t put it down.
Happy reading!
Would I recommend this book: Yes Would I re-read this book: Already done :) Would I read future books by this author: Yes
Starting Over With You is book 2 in the Beer League Belles series, and I’m more in love with Thistlebrook than ever.
Kenni Colburn and Dean Moore grew up in this quirky small town. Kenni and her girl gang—Sadie and Missy—were always knee-deep in shenanigans, and Dean (Sadie’s brother) was forever rescuing them. What no one knew? Dean was secretly crushing on Kenni the whole time. She, of course, assumed he was way out of her league. They shared one very HOT teenage kiss, but then life happened, and they missed their chance.
Kenni left for college, fell in love, and unexpectedly became a mom to twin boys. Sadly, her husband turned out to be a scum-sucking excuse of a man, and she ended up stuck in a loveless marriage for 19 years. But Kenni is no weak woman—she spent those years putting her boys first, and the moment they graduated, she put on her big-girl pants, ditched the dead weight, and headed back to Thistlebrook to finally start living for herself.
Back in the land of raccoons burning down libraries (seriously, I love this town’s chaos), Kenni didn’t expect Dean to still carry a torch—or to find that her teenage crush had grown into a total hottie firefighter single dad. Sure, there’s the whole “he knocked up her sister years ago” situation (the family tree is complicated 😂), but the chemistry between them? Off. The. Charts.
What I adored most was the small-town magic. Everyone knows everyone, which means plenty of meddling, heartfelt moments, and of course, Shenanigans Inc. Kenni, Missy, and Sadie had me laughing one minute and tearing up the next. Poor Dean honestly deserves a medal for surviving them all his life. And don’t even get me started on the cousins’ group chat—I couldn’t wait to see what they’d say next! And bonus points because Maggie (my spirit-Belle) is living her happily ever after!
Toni Aleo has created such a dynamic, dramatic, and emotional world in Thistlebrook. This story is equal parts raw and real—about healing, second chances, and rediscovering love—but it’s also filled with dad jokes, sexy staches, and small-town chaos that will have you laughing out loud.
By the end, I was smiling through tears, cheering for Kenni’s strength, and swooning over Dean finally getting his shot. Starting Over With You is a beautiful mix of heartfelt romance, laugh-out-loud friendships, and spicy swoon. I’m already counting down to my next trip back to Thistlebrook.
𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is the second book in the Beer League Belles series by Toni Aleo, featuring an it’s always been you, second chance romance for Kenni and Dean. She’s finally escaping a 19 year marriage marred by rampant infidelity, and he’s the guy she always wanted, but he got drunk once and made a baby with her sister!😳 Did I mention he’s also her best friend’s brother? It’s a tangled web, I’m telling you, but it’s so much fun, because he wanted her, too, and now she’s back. So will these two amazing single parents, whose kids are cousins🤣, have the guts to jump in with both feet?
I loved every second of this story!! Kenni was my spirit animal with her gorgeous curvy self, as she endured years of a loveless marriage, in order to give her boys what they needed! And man, did she raise two amazing sons that love their mama something fierce! Their Cousin text threads with Dean’s daughter Skyye were amazing! Toni Aleo blew me away with the emotion, the sassy banter, the fiery chemistry with a slow burn a big pay-off, and especially the shocking plot twists in this one! These characters were just everything, from the wild girl squad of Shenanigans, Inc. to Dean bringing to life so many of my favorite MMC types—cowboy, firefighter, and a hockey player. Look I don’t typically like a mustache on a man, because it always makes me think ’70s p**no, but even I was cheering for Kenni to get her rides on that sl*tty ‘stache!!🔥🔥 That woman earned them, and the way he took care of her in every way and soothed her insecurities was priceless! I’m so hooked on this world, and was so proud of how amazing those three teens were, I’m crossing fingers that we get their stories some day!! Don’t miss this wonderful story! You will laugh, cry, blush, and randomly belt out some great songs that are mentioned throughout!
Thank you to Toni Aleo and BookSirens for the ARC. My opinions are my own and are freely expressed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Holy book boyfriend! Dean certainly sets the standards for this book! From the beginning, we were brought into their world, which shows that sometimes things happen for a reason. Kenni and Dean have known each other since they were teenagers. Life sometimes happens, and opportunities pass us by, and in this case Kenni and Dean were too scared to act on their attraction to each other. Flash forward 18 years and Kenni is back in Thistlebrook and Dean is not about to let opportunity pass him by again. Although their family dynamics might seem odd to outsiders, the heart knows what the heart wants. And in the case of the hockey player, firefighting dad, he wants Kenni, I have to say the unsung heroes of this book were the cousins and the cousins’ text. The love and devotion Kenni’s sons have for her is top-notch and I hope we get their books. The appearances by the cousins added the perfect balance to the book. This book definitely has some spicy scenes, but there is a great balance of quality writing and storytelling. I feel like every book by Toni I read, I always end up saying, 'That's it - that character was my favorite.' But this time, I think Dean has crept to the top of the list. This book gives Dean and Kenni a second chance at getting it right. Although the paths they took brought them to their current situation- I loved reading their story unfold. If you are debating whether or not to read this book- do yourself a favor and go for it! You won’t be disappointed. Toni’s books are always an automatic purchase for me.
Toni gives us another heartstring pulling love story. Starting Over with You is book 2 in her Beer League series.
Kenni and Dean make the perfect couple. Childhood friends who never had thr right timing to see where the sparks could take them. Kenni is Dean's sisters best friends sister and friend. There's always been an attraction, Dean has been head over heals for Kenni but hasn't gotten the chance to make a move without the moment being interrupted.
20+ years and the fire still burns for Dean. Times has changed their lives but the feelings for Kenni never went away. Life threw them many obstacles and even though their lives are more complicated now they're still there for each other. Miscommunication and lack of expressing their feelings causes so rocky moments but their fate is to be together.
Kenni is taking back her life. After a 19 year loveless marriage, a marriage of obligations and not endless love. Her Boys are off to start their lives in college and she's headed home to reclaim herself and find her happiness again with her loved ones close she can never fail.
Dean and Kenni slowly dance around their feelings for each other, each of them not knowing how to maneuver around their feelings. Until they can't hold back anymore. Kenni is Dean's other half of his heart and he doesn't hold back once he has made it clear.
Toni gives us an amazing second chance romance that left me smiling and cheering for Dean and Kenni.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via BookSirens. This in no way impacted on my view.
After 19 years of marriage, Kenleigh Colburn is ready to find herself again. She's only held out with her cheating husband this long so that their sons can graduate and get set up at college, but she's not giving him anymore of her time. Returning home to Thistlebrook and reconnecting with the rest of the SI (Shenanigans Incorporated), Kenni is going to reclaim her future. There's just one small problem - Dean Moore. Kenni's been in love with Dean ever since she was a teenager, but he's her best friend's brother, and also her sister's baby daddy. So when he starts flirting with her, Kenni doesn't know if she should run for the hills, or into his arms.
I think I liked this one even more than book 1, and that's saying something. Kenni and Dean had undeniable chemistry, and I'm all about a second chance, best friend's brother kind of book. This did it all perfectly, and the way none of the characters - not just the MMC and MFC - shied away from the messiness of it all was wonderful. The cousins chat interludes were lovely, and the final chapters made the book outstanding. We also got to see a little bit of Fable and Jett (maybe not as much as I would've liked), and more of the townspeople. I hope there's another book, and that it's about Noelle and Sebastian, because their story looks like it could be epic!
Totally Hot Read! Kenni is married and just watched her twins graduate. Her son Finley and Ash are her biggest supporters. They want her to go back to Thistlebrook where her twins sister Missy and best friend Sadie are. Before she leaves she confronts her cheating and lying husband and demands he sign divorce papers. Dean is the Fire station captain and loves his hometown. when Dean finds that Kenni is coming home, he feels over joked. His one and only. Kenni is so happy to see Missy and Sadie and they. celebrate her return..The Shinanigan Sisters! Kenni is staying with Missy and her new husband and niece Skyee was is also Dean daughter. Skyee is the greatest niece and she finds her helpful with her move. When Dean finds KenniLeigh as he always calls her at the bar..he asks her to dance his favorite dance partner ever. when Kenni struggles with being at Missy's house he insists she move in with him...She knows the flirting will get worse but she feels this is right.. The chemistry is HOT and these two find what they have missed for 19 years. Kenni finds her ex husband is protesting the divorce but she is not taking no for an answer. When Kenni is in danger Missy's husband protects and saves her life. Dean is thankful she is ok and finally tells her how he has always felt, Kenni also let's Dean know how she also feels. Together Dean and Kenni along with Finley, Asher and Skyee become a true family of love.
Kenleigh (Kenni) Colburn is ready to live life on her own terms. After being married for 19 years, she files for divorce from her husband after making sure her twin boys are settled in college. She chooses to move back to her hometown of Thistlebrook to start over. She is able to reconnect with her besties, also known as Shenanigans Incorporated, her sister Missy and Sadie, who happens to be Missy's baby daddy's sister. She's excited about being back, but the prospect of seeing the man she's been in love with since she was a teen is the most daunting part.
Dean Moore is a firefighter in Thistlebrook and the best dad to his daughter. Dean has always had a thing for Kenni, but when he ended up getting her sister pregnant and Kenni had a young family of her own, he thought that ship had sailed. Now that she's back, he's got his sights set on getting the woman of his dreams.
There is no doubt that Dean and Kenni have chemistry in spades and everyone around them knows they belong together. While it takes some time for Kenni to start settling in to her new life, Dean is patient as she figures it out. I appreciated that they started out as friends (again) and things grew from there. The side chats between the cousins was such a fun addition to the story.
Okay, Dean… I see you and your slutty mustache. “Starting Over with You” is a swoony, romantic and steamy second chance/starting over romance that was a great addition to the series.
Dean and Kenni were so swoony and I loved them together. Kenni was great and I admired her strength starting over after her twin sons went to college and leaving her husband who had been cheating on her for years. Keeping it a secret was tough but she did it for her sons so they could get the trust fund they deserved. I loved how close she was with her best friends and how they were her rock when she moved back home. And Dean… the swoon was turned up to an eleven with him. That man was down bad for Kenni since they were teens and that hadn’t changed over the years they were apart. He’s a fire chief, plays hockey and always puts his teenage daughter first, what more could a person ask for. Kenni and Dean had a slow burn finding each other because Dean was so respectful in making his move especially since Kenni had just gotten out of a long marriage. Once they gave into their attraction, the steamy scenes were so good. Dean made her feel desirable and perfect the way she was. I loved the added drama of the ex-husband and didn’t see that plot twist coming. The cousins' group chat was cute and relatable. The ending for them was perfect and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
What can I say? I said it before and I will say it again. Toni Aleo writting of Dean and Kenni is bringing me back to how I felt when reading her first series of books. I am falling in love with these characters so much and just left wanting so much more. Reading the second book of the Beer League Belles is making me want to live in Thristlebrook to gossip and laugh with the Belles (though I was a bit sad we didn’t get to much of my favorite older gals banter in this one). The laughter, fun and commited friendship/sisterhood of Lenni, Sadie and Missy. Lenni coming back to where she can truly bloom and be her amazing self is key. And finding what she left behind just waiting for he is even better. Makes us believe in true love second chances. Lenni and our favorate sexi mustache hockey/fighterfire chemistry is FIRE!!!!! His dedication to his daughter and so much respect to all the women in his life just melts your heart. Love that man! Lenni though is strong woman who also fights for her sons and herself when the time came. Hope we can get another future peek at these two characters. Just can’t wait to see whats next!
Coming home This is book 2 in the Beer League Belles and I’m just loving this series. This novel follows Kenni and Dean’s story. Kenni is coming home to Thistlebrook Tennessee after getting pregnant young, then marrying and having her twin boys. Her husband has led a secret life that she found out about 6 years before. With time to plan and a new beginning to look forward to she bides her time until her boys are off to college, then sets her life and imminent divorce in order. It’s nearly two decades later and she’s returning home to her family, crazy sister and best friend who in their early days, this trio used to run wild. Dean now the fire chief, has always had feelings for Kenni and is excited for her return, hoping that maybe this time he will win the girl. The teenagers love of their parents and Dean’s actions towards Kenni is adorable and the shenanigans the three women get up to is quite entertaining. With lots of fun, crazy times, family antics, steaminess and even some danger this story really had me emotionally involved, loving every minute of it. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and can’t wait to read more in this series. I received a copy through Booksirens and this is my honest review.
You come home after 19 years of putting everyone else first only run into a man with a mustache, a cowboy hat, and a heart of gold. How can anyone resist that?
Starting Over with You is sweet, funny, and steamy. If you can get through this one without falling in love with KenniLeigh and Dean Moore, I need to know if we read the same book.
Aleo takes us back to the town of Thistlebrook where Beer League Hockey is as important as the NHL and anything can happen…. just ask the raccoons. Kenleigh Colburn is beginning to meet the woman she was meant to be, and it is so fun to read as she returns home and begins to revisit the wild girl she once was. Dean Moore is there waiting for her as he always has and is ready with a quick dad joke, absurd pickup lines, and a mustache that deserves attention.
I have read several of Aleo’s books, and while I love them all, Starting Over with You is my all time favorite. It’s a story of a woman becoming her true self, a man fighting for the woman and kids he loves, and family ready to handle all the wild that comes with it.
Starting Over with You is a story full of characters that will claim your heart and teach you to not settle for anything less than amazing.
Gosh, Kenni has been going through it in this book. She is leaving her husband of 19 years after finding out he has a side family. She moves back to her home town and comes face to face with Dean. Dean has loved Kenni forever but I’ll be honest and say that their situation was very complicated. Dean flirts a bit but he finally lets Kenni know that he’s interested. After getting over her hangups, she is all in. Things are progressing when Kenni’s ex causes issues. Kenni worries if being with her will be too much for Dean. Dean assures her that he’s her man.
This was an emotional book. It’s about an experienced couple with kids who are blending families. It’s also about a woman whose body isn’t the body that society deems sexy. It’s a book about parents finding love after loneliness and heartbreak and it’s about representation. Every woman deserves to have a man love her just the way she is. This was a real book about life and how it can be complicated. I loved it and I hope my review does this story justice.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
ARC Review We just finished Starting Over With You, and whew… what a ride. You know we live for a good second chance romance, and this one delivered big time. Add in the sister’s best friend angle? Say less, we were hooked. From the very first page, it had us giggling, swooning, and whispering, “Oh no they didn’t…” like we were watching our favourite romcom unfold in real life.
What we loved most was how it mixed laugh out loud humour with those heart squeezing, oh so relatable moments. Because let’s be real: don’t we all want someone who loves us, misses us, and actually means it? This story gave us that mix of sass, sweetness, and sincerity that had us rooting for the characters every step of the way.
The chemistry? Off the charts. The tension? Delicious. And the payoff? Totally worth it. It felt like catching up with old friends, but also being surprised at every turn. Honestly, it’s the kind of book you want to text your bestie about in all caps saying “OMG YOU NEED TO READ THIS NOW.”
We thought Jett and Fable's story couldn't be topped. But Dean and Kenni left us wanting more! Our only wish? That Dean was starting over with us!
Any time Toni releases a book it’s an instant one click for me. Her books have pulled me out of so many reading funks. This book is no exception. I have been in a slump for months and then came Dean and Kenni. I love that these characters have found each other again later in life. Dean and Kenni have been friends their whole lives. They crushed hard but life got in the way. They led separate but fully intertwined lives until kenni’s boys were off to college. Then Kenni, who has taken care of everyone else in her life gets to choose herself. She moves back home to be with her besties (relationships that make me envious) and rebuild her life after finding out about her husbands infidelity. She is one tough cookie. Dean is super dad, brother, and friend. He has been in love with Kenni since they were kids and finally gets his chance with her. His words and actions are what dream guys are made of. He’s loving, dirty, and perfect for Kenni. These two are perfect and I fully enjoyed this book! Thank you Toni for always writing characters that I connect with and continue to think about years later.
You want to be like Kenni Colburn, living where you are for your kids and making sure they are happy, healthy, and cared for, even when their father's secret threatens to destroy them. Kenni has known about her husband's secret, and when she finally decides it's time to leave, she realizes her boys know too, and they will protect her with their lives. Kenni decides that the best place to start over is where she felt at home—back in Thistlebrook, where her sister is also. Dean has been in love with Kenni most of his life, but gave up on that dream when she moved away. Now that she’s back, things become complicated, to say the least. One thing is sure, though: Dean is going to fight this time, and he's going to ensure that Kenni is safe and happy. Kenni's feelings for Dean were on the back burner, but now she can look to the future. The problem is, someone doesn't want her to have that future. As they all navigate this, who will be left standing? I loved Kenni for how strong she is and the bond she shares with her boys. I also loved the connection she has with Dean’s daughter, who is also her niece. It's all twisted and complicated, but in the most beautiful way possible.
Oh man! Dean Moore is smoking, irresistible and a fantastic dad. He has been in love with Kenni since they were teenagers and would do anything for her. He has always been the one she and her friends (one of them his sister) called to pick them up or to protect them. They shared one kiss and then she went to college and both of their lives changed. He has a daughter, with her sister: one night, they were never meant to be she has twins with her soon-to-be-ex-husband.
When she comes home after she leaves her husband, she doesn't expect to fall for Dean. He never stopped loving her and vows that he isn't going to let her get away again. The lead up to them agreeing to be together was fantastic and he is the most understanding, loving, fantastic man for her to move on with. The cousins and their conversations are fantastic, and I loved how protective the boys are of their mom. When her ex won't go away, things could be over before they truly get started.
I loved this book and can't wait for more in this series (although I think it might be impossible for anyone to overtake Dean). I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
Starting Over With You Author- Toni Aleo Series- Beer League Belles Book #2 (Standalone) Rating- 4.25 Stars out of 5 Genres- Contemporary Romance Tropes- Single Parents to Older Children, It’s Always Been Her, He Fell First, Chief of Fire Department, Connection to One Another is… Complicated, Sister’s Best Friend and Ex’s Sister, Forced Proximity Main Characters- Kenni and Dean Spice Level- 2/5 HEA
Starting Over With You is book two in Toni Aleo's Beer League Belles series and I quite enjoyed this story. From the start you know how much Dean has loved Kenni since they were kids and that hasn't changed despite Dean having a daughter with her sister and Kenni getting married, having twin boys and now getting divorced. And now that she's back in their hometown he's finally got the chance to admit how he feels towards her. For Kenni the entire situation of falling in love with Dean is made more complicated because she has never had the freedom to see who she is. She left for college met her now ex, got pregnant, married, and then stayed married just for her boys. So while she might want to be with Dean she also wants to see who she is as a single woman.
If I could rate it 6/5 I would. I loved it. Truthfully, I expected to because of how great the first book in the series was. But I loved it more than I even expected. The introduction of the Dean character in the first book truthfully was kind of uninspired; seemed like a good guy but there wasn't really much background for him. The second book though, THIS BOOK, about him and his intended, Kenni, brought him to life in Technicolor. They are such vibrant characters, full of beauty, life and complexity. There wasn't a flat character on page anywhere in sight. That gives so much hope to those of us who are older and haven't found love yet. Yes, both of these stories (Bk 1 & 2) are about childhood friends to lovers, the one who got away, but it nevertheless shows, through the brilliantly done band of secondary characters that love is possible after 30, 35, even 50 or 60.
Between Book 1 & 2, I think I might have to add Toni Aleo to my auto buy author list. I've already downloaded the ARC for "Tackled by Love".

This is the second book in the series. It isn't necessary to read the first book beforehand, I highly recommend it. Dean and Kenni have been friends since they were young. Kenni is best friends with Dean's sister, as well as her own sister Missy. This trio of crazy ladies bring mayhem to the town until Kenni goes off to college and everything changes. Dean has always known Kenni was meant for him. Right from the first kiss his sister and her best friend, Missy, he's been head over heels for Kenni. After Kenni moves back to town, Dean sets his sites in her and promised not to miss his second chance. Even with his sister and Missy, as well as their own children now involved. He will do anything he can to make her his. This is a super adorable second chance romance. Its got some super hilarious stunts the ladies pull off together. A crazy ex husband and some amazing kids and family. I really enjoyed this book. Book one was equally as incredible. I really hope for more in this series. 5 Stars.
Book two in this series is about newly single mom Kenni and Firefighter, beer league hockey playing single dad Dean. Kenni and Dean grew up together along with Dean’s sister Sadie and Kenni’s sister Missy, who also happens to be the mother of Dean’s teenage daughter. Dean and Kenni have always crushed on each other but life happens and they’re separated and lead different lives until Kenni has had enough of her marriage. On her twin son’s high school graduation day, she packs her car, gives divorce papers to her cheating husband and moves back to her hometown. She and Dean reconnect as friends and then as more. I thought this was a fun, sweet romance. I loved how Kenni was finding herself as a single mom and reclaimed her life. I loved how Dean was all in with Kenni. I even loved their intertwined, messy family connections that seemed, in their words very “Jerry Springer.” You don’t have to read the first book in this series, but I recommend it because it was just as fun and swoon worthy as this one. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Starting Over With You is Kenleigh ( Kenni) Colburn and firefighter Dean Moore’s second chance, small town love story. It’s book two in the Beer League Belles Series and I loved everything about this entertaining and engaging read. Kenni is ready to move on with her own life after 19 years of marriage. Her twin boys are settled in college and it’s time to divorce her cheating husband so a move back to her hometown of Thistlebrook is just what she needs for a fresh start. Reconnecting with her best friend and her sister is perfect but coming face to face with the man she has loved since her youth is not going to be easy…….. Dean has always looked on Kenni as the one that got away and when she left town, one night of passion with her sister resulted in him becoming a single dad. Dean knows Kenni is going to need time and he decides he will just wait it out because from the moment they meet again sarks fly. What follows is a well written, entertaining read with wonderful characters and a story I quickly became invested in.
So this is a second chance romance and we're back in Thistlebrook for it. We get to meet Kenni, who is a married mum of 2 and the "perfect" wife. Only her husband has a new family he never told her about, so now that her boys are away to college, she's away home to her best friends and family! Enter Dean Moore, best friends little brother, Kennis new love interest and oh yeah, Daddy to Kennis niece! Oops! 🤷🏻♀️
I was hooked with this book, I may even have messaged Toni a few times while reading to gush over him, exclaim over how sweet the cousins are and how much I want to be Kenni and her friends! 🤣 Although my husband may agree that I am her already, and her friends sound like mine so 🤷🏻♀️🤣
The friendships and the family feel in this book are just perfect feel good feels, the girls are brilliant and so much fun, the cousins have a group chat which is hilarious and they're obviously close. Also, look out for the cowboy hat scene. 🙈🫣
This book will be a reread when I need a bit of comfort and laughter. Definitely a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read for me! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Second book in the series and wowzers! This was a wonderful read! Full of humour, emotion, passion, friends and turmoil. Kenni and Dean almost has a teenage romance, but it never really took off, due to misunderstandings and life getting in the way. Now they are all grown up with teenagers of their own. What could get in their way? Well, their kids are cousins, so no complications there at all.
But what WILL their kids think? Will their sisters help or hinder? Particularly as Kenni's manipulative almost ex is throwing even more barriers in the way.
With some truly glorious side characters and some minor machinations to get them together from Kennis twin boys and Deans teen daughter (who, BTW are cousins). This was a book that I loved! So many feels and WOW! Kenni and Dean were hot!
I particularly loved the text message exchanges between the teens! I hope we see more of them in the future! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’ve read most, if not all, of Toni Aleo’s books, she is one of my favorite authors overall, and definitely my Hockey Queen. Reading one of her books means knowing you’ll find an obsessed man falling for a woman of all different types, shapes, and forms. She writes badass women who don’t need a man (because, as said before, they’re badass bit***s), but who want someone to love them exactly as they are.
And it’s no different with Starting Over With You. (Warning: this is not a sports centered series. Yes, sports are present, but they’re not the main focus.) What I love most about this series is seeing characters who are more mature, who’ve already lived, experienced, finding love in each other and building a life together.
Dean is funny, lovable, responsible, and unapologetically obsessed men. Kenni is sexy, joyful, troublemaker, and an amazing woman Maybe it’s Dean’s mustache, or maybe it’s Kenni’s mischievous tendencies, but either way, they just fit together.
A 5⭐️ read, 100% recommend. And bonus points for the Taylor Swift references. ☄️💞
Book 2 of the Beer League Belles did not disappoint! Dean and Kenni have been friends since childhood, and Dean has loved her that long, who came this close to finally acting on their crush when life and their shenanigans get in the way and we watch them both go their separate ways. Fast forward 20 years or so and we find Kenni coming back home, a momma of 2 twin boys/men and healing from a betrayal no one deserves. Dean for his part a single father of a teenage girl, living in the town they grew up in, and still holding his flame for our Kenni Leigh. This book was so good! I love cheesy Dean! His pick up lines and dad jokes had me giddy and rolling my eyes at the same time. The kids shipping them in text messages remind me of conversations I have with my own siblings. The cast of characters only this town can provide kept me laughing. Chemistry was off the charts! I felt like it took FOREVER for that first kiss and then my girl Toni did not hold back!! Way to build on that anticipation!! Bring me back to this world Toni!! I’m loving this little town of Thistlebrook!
