War waits for no half-elf.

After falling from the sky, Fieran is sent home to heal. But healing his body is only a minor battle compared to healing his friendship with Merrik and pursuing his relationship with Pip.

Pip travels to Aldon to work at the AMPC and solve a tricky mechanical problem. But inventing mechanics is nothing compared to meeting more of Fieran’s family. Can she embrace this new step?

Whether at home or at the front, the war threatens those Fieran and Pip love. With his squadron at his back and Pip at his side, Fieran fights as he has never fought before to protect the Alliance. When Mongavaria attacks, will he and Pip find the courage to stand and fight?

Winds of Death is book 4 in the War of the Alliance series, a humorous steampunk fantasy series filled with magical gadgets, elven warriors, and a hint of no-spice romance.

Born and raised in Michigan, I enjoy traveling to new adventures that inspire my writing.

Growing up, I read just about every book I could get my hands on, especially fantasy. I currently write YA fantasy and romantic fantasy filled with lots of humor, spunky and tough leading ladies, and broken heroes.

When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with my chocolate lab, Miss Kisses.

The emotional rollercoaster that each book in this series takes me on is well worth reading. I like how the author shows how war can affect others, from the rise to heroism to the fall of the innocent. I also loved how this one examined Frieren's identity and Pip's strength. I've come to love our two main protagonists and can't wait until a certain someone gets their own book. I want to read the epic conclusion soon.

Oh my heart! How it has been repaired from the last book, yet still the old ache returns from the ending of this one!

So, can I just say, that each book in this series just gets better and better? Seriously, one of the best series I’ve ever read. The character development, fantasy elements, relationships, side characters, world building, realities of war, and political intrigue are all so well done. It feels like I know these characters and they are just brought to life by Tara Grayce’s vivid writing style.

Our spunky FMC, Pip, is still my favorite mechanic with a heart of gold. I love how she faces her fears with courage and grit, even when it requires a lot of her to do so. Fieran, our stubborn and golden retriever-type FMC, is such an awesome balance for Pip. He helps her see her worth and his confidence in her is beautiful. They both balance each other and say what both need to hear. I love their deepening romance so much!

The cameos of Fieran’s family members were so cool to witness and were incorporated seamlessly into the story! All the hints of their relationships with each other make me super excited for future books with them as main characters!

Overall, I would highly recommend this series and I can’t wait for the next book!

Tara Grayce didn’t pull her punches, but I am glad that she brought Merrick back because the story wouldn’t have been the same without him. I know I read a few reviews where people felt that the reconciliation between Merrick and Fieran was too fast, but I didn’t feel that way. They’d been best friends for almost 70 years and were so close they were willing to give their lives in protection for one another so, once the initial shock, grief, and anger wore off (helped immensely I’m sure by being able to still walk with the help of the prosthetic, fly, and kissing Fieran’s sister), there was no way they wouldn’t be okay. I think it would have felt more out of character for Merrick to continue to hold a grudge than to work it out with Fieran, especially after seeing Fieran’s deep regret and heart felt apologies for the ways he had messed up in their friendship.

I also liked a little deeper look into Lt. Rothillion, but wish that there was a bit more on the two halves of the squadron coming together as one, because they still seem pretty separate outside Aylia.

Aside from that, I pretty much knew as soon as Myles popped up in the story he was going to be the sacrificial offering of needing someone close to one of the main characters to kill off, but I definitely didn’t expect Pretty Face to get shot down behind enemy lines. I’m going to be very upset if he doesn’t turn up alive in book 5.

Additionally, I expected to see a little of Fieran’s Uncle Edmund, who is Escarland’s spy master, in these books. The story seemed to have the Alliance’s only intel be what they find from the airborne scouting missions, and I would have expected the spy master to be more involved in the war and mentioned occasionally, just as the rest of the family is.

And lastly, I absolutely love how much Weylind loves his brother. Throughout The Elven Alliance series and books 3 and 4 of this series, that love holds strong when he had so many reasons to hate or at the very least want to hide him away, but instead his fierce devotion to and defense of Farrendel just gets me every time. The scene where Fieran takes up his father’s swords to protect his father and his countries was written so well that I could envision it perfectly….and I may have shed a few tears along the way as well. But, oh, Weylind. As the oldest of three siblings myself, there is just something about his character and how much he loves his siblings that gets me every time.

Throughout this entire series Grayce has written some wonderfully heart-wrenching and moving scenes that even surpass The Elven Alliance series - which I absolutely love.

That cliffhanger at the end of Book 3 was excruciating. I desperately needed this book and I loved it so much! It lived up to all my explanations, resolved the tension between Merrik and Fieran, and Fieran and Pip officially become a couple! As for Merrik's love story...? I knew it! And I can't wait for their book in the next series.

Winds of Death is an excellent addition to the War of the Alliance series. I love how the beginning half takes more time focusing on Fieran and Pip's relationship, as well as meeting his mother and youngest siblings. Definitely loved seeing more of Tryndar and Ellie. Things were definitely a lot more slower-paced at the beginning of the book before jumping right back into the war. It was intense, the stakes were so much higher, the strange magic surrounding the Mongavarians' crafts...

We get to meet Pip's family / clan, see more of Rhohen (and, wow, I would never have guessed that who he would fall in love with...), and the inventions and innovations of more aeroplanes and artillery.

And then the ending...

While this doesn't end on as much of a cliffhanger as Book 3, it definitely makes me eager and impatient to read the last and final book. What's going to happen now that the Mongavarian's have managed to breach Escarland? What is that strange magic? What happened to Pretty Face? (Trying not to give too much away 😅!)

Can't wait for the release of the last and final book in the series and future installments!

The Price of War

This much-anticipated installment starts a bit slowly with Fieran recovering in the capital. These early chapters solidify the direction of Pip and Fieran’s relationship. Yes! They finally have one.

But, soon enough, Fieran recovers and is sent back to the front. Elf healers are amazing, but I was still shocked at how quickly Merrick made his reappearance. No spoilers except to say I was sad at how “easily” their reconciliation happened.

Mongavaria attacks. They have a new device and it destroys the protection the Alliance has been hiding behind while they built up their arsenal. They have a new ally, and it was fun to see them in action.

It’s clear that magic will not win this war for the Alliance. What’s next? How will this new generation of Laesornysh earn their names?

I’m glad the next book will be out in a month. And I really need some side stories about the off-screen relationships that are happening with the siblings and cousins.

This is the third book in a sequel series (so if you haven’t read the elven alliance series then you absolutely need too its amazing as well and all of those were five stars for me). The timeline has moved on now, from a Victorianesc human kingdom and an ancient elven one to a more world war type fantasy world with fighter planes.
The son of our main male romantic lead in the original series is called Fiernan and now he is flying the planes in a war that has been brewing his entire life. The military and politics of the original series are now creating a future, but it’s not one that’s decided yet.
Absolutely obsessed with this series.
Romantic Rating: soft - a few kisses with little to no detail.
Violence Rating: level 3 - this is set in a war after all, you can check what the level 3 means anywhere i post my reviews!
Content Warnings: the aftermath of losing a limb in war is discussed through a secondary character, death.

This book series is a little more like a historical fiction because the feel of war as well as the inspiration from past war being so well researched. As such, people wanting more of the romance have probably been on edge waiting for more. This is their book! Love takes a step forward for about half the book as Pip gets to know some of Fieran's family while she and Fieran finally talk things out. Then it's back to the front lines and the stakes are higher than ever.

I am glad I was right about a little theory I had and was hoping for in regards to Merrick. I suspect that's a book we'll get later. I enjoyed spending more time with Fieran's family and getting to know them. That was fun.

I’m assuming that this was an intentional nod to Death Wind from Elven Alliance.

Whew! That had me holding my breath a LOT! A much better ending than book three that’s for sure :)

While I wouldn’t have chosen the method, I was glad to get some time with Essie and Fieran’s family! Tryndar is sooooo adorable!

I totally saw one development coming, only I wasn’t sure exactly who would be involved. In real life this doesn’t happen as much but it almost has to in books.

I really felt for Fieran in his uncomfortable situation as I have lived and am living through something similar. He handles it better though :)

I’m so proud of and happy for Fieran. He’s really growing up and it’s hard but it’s helping him be settled in himself. And I’m ridiculously proud of Farrendel for the conversations he’s having with Fieran.

Oooooh the Mongavarians are driving me crazy! They shouldn’t be able to do these kinds of things! I hope the Alliance gets some of this figured out quickly!

I just got this today and I read through the whole novel in one sitting. All I can say about this one is that the cost of war as seen in Book 3 is amplified and grimmer. While Fieran and Pip and their families are more deeply and painfully involved in this war, small personal victories and surprises along the way leaven the darkness with sparks of joy. I can't help but think that the personal side of things shown in this novel are likely much like joys of the Homefront Sleuths in the WWII series by Elliot and Veley. Moving, painful and very hopeful - this exemplies the coming-of-age genre.

Moving story of loving people during cruel war

Truly an excellent, moving story. It’s starts with Fieran’s recovery and Pip settling in. Lots of heartwarming moments, my favorites. Author makes you feel like the characters truly care. Then the story moves back to war. It gets gritty and surprising. I’m not much of a war reader, but it keeps moving and focusing on how the characters are considering each other while battling in this dangerous time. I’m waiting for a certain character to return. I thought more could have been made of what Fieran did on the field. That’s minor and it’s a great book. Will start the final book shortly!

The real test has arrived

So much happens in this book, but I’m so glad the romantic tension between Fieran and Pip is finally clear, as well as the relationship between Fieran and Merrick. I find it’s nice to have glimpses of love, hope, and friendship amid the bleak realities of war. This war is really picking up the pace, and I am very much looking forward to the finale in the next book! Also, I’m starting to feel bad for King Weylind with how often he’s stuck doing paperwork while watching over injured family members in this and the last series!

Another excellent installment. Clean in language and content. Highly recommend!!!

Finally some freaking romance

I am so grateful they are FINALLY together. There is still FAR too much detail on war, but at least it was balanced now. And while it sucked that Pip had to fight, I'm so proud of her for stepping up and proving herself to be Fieran's equal. I don't appreciate the reminder that Farrendell isn't immortal though. That was heart rendering. And Merrick is back and reunited and I just knew Tara Grayce couldn't be cruel enough to leave them fighting for long. And it was sad about Miles, but we'd just met him, and it would have been unrealistic for NO ONE named to die. So I kinda saw it coming. I'm still hoping for Pretty Face to be rescued though.

Having just finished my second read of Winds of Death, I can say that it is a fantastic set up to the last book of the series, and has such a perfect name. I absolutely love this book, and the series as a whole—though I may have had some mental trauma at times to work through.

Winds of Death is everything I could have hoped it would be, and more. Unlike book 3, Fly to Fury, we don’t end on a cliffhanger of sorts. It was actually very satisfying. I was content to wait the first time I finished it, but now I am anxious for book 5. I am more than ready for this war to be over, and am so glad that Tara always delivers a HEA.

Another excellent book in this series! This helped me recover from the last book...and then delivered a couple more blows, but it didn't hit me as hard as the last book.
I loved seeing Fieran with his mother and siblings at the beginning and also Pip getting to know them.
As always, the father and son moments are the best!
Now Merrik....I knew it! Thank you for giving Merrik the story arc that I had forming in my head after finishing, and recovering from, Fly to Fury!
Let the count down begin for the final book!

Magic vs technology

Wow. This story kept me glued to the pages and on the edge of my seat.
With both Fieran and Merrick injured at the last book I wasn’t sure how we would recover. Love conquers all! We still have Essie and Farrendel not to mention Pip and Fieran and a few others that can’t be mentioned. There is war, love, family as well as found family and you cheering in your seat for the good guys to win.

Another five star read from Tara Grayce! This one is filled with heart-wrenching moments, fierce battle scenes in the sky and the air, unexpected turns, and the great banter and realistic relationships that is a hallmark of Grayce’s books. The characters feel so realistic, like friends you are meeting once again as you pick up series. I loved seeing new couples develop (and I hope we get to see their love stories too in future) and Pip and Fieran’s relationship deepen.

Oh my word! I think this is my favorite out of the War Of the Alliance series so far! There were so many quotes that had me gasping and laughing out loud, which was much needed after the tears I shed in Fly to Fury🥲 I loved Fieran’s time at home, which allowed us to get to know Ellie and Tryndar better. That adorable mini-Farrendel needs more page time! I shall be eagerly awaiting book 5!

Too good to put down

I had to finish this this weekend so I didn’t make myself late to work again. This series just keeps getting better and better. Heart wrenching at times - it is a book about war - but also filled with love, warmth, banter, and hope. I cannot wait for book 5 to drop next month. Also joining the Merrick Fan Club. As soon as I know how.

Another good book in the series! I loved the character growth and loved the dwarfs and Pip's brother has quickly became another one of my favorite characters in the story. I felt truly engrossed when reading the battle scenes! The companion novel had some great additional content to enjoy as well. I can't believe that the last book is next!
