Quick review for a quick read. You know, the problem with reading a novella that's supposed to be the middle of the series (not even clearly marked as part of an ongoing series) is that you potentially have a hard time connecting with the characters.

Believe me when I say that if a writer can convince me of the story of the characters within, even if I'm not familiar with the series, I don't usually have that problem. Unfortunately, this story was just far too shallow to work in novella form. That's a shame because given its heavy contexts and potential to go in a different direction for its purported love triangle - it had a chance to shine. Unfortunately, NA melodramatic and silly cliches rear their ugly head again. *sighs*

Sure, it starts off with a bang (no pun intended) as Ever confronts her abusive father for the last time, and two of the most important guys in her life (Hunter and Sam) help her in the aftermath. They're brothers, and she's torn between their affections.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was really excited to read this book, but unfortunately, I just did not like it. I thought that the cover was absolutely beautiful and the synopsis sounded really interesting, especially because I kind of like love triangles, but it was not executed great. Before I get into my review, I do need to state that this is the second book in a series and that I did not read the first book. It was not clearly stated that it was in a series, none-the-less being the second in the series. So I would probably not have requested this book if I would have knew that, but I do feel like this book is able to be read without reading the first book, but you will miss out on the character development of Sam (one of the brothers).

I thought that the writing was okay, but not the best. The pacing in the book was actually pretty good and I never found the book dragging until about 75% of the way through. I feel like the storyline of the book was not executed well. It is kind of a touchy subject having the main female protagonist fall in love with two brothers. The way the romance comes about made me really not like the romance in this book. To put it bluntly, I felt like the relationship with Ever and Hunter (other brother) was horribly wrong and both of them were douches for it.

The characters were not very well developed and they were all annoying. Ever was really needy and helpless the entire book. I felt like she fell into the stereotypical girl who cannot take care of herself and completely relies on a man to hold her up. I didn’t mind Hunter, but I did get tired of hearing his ramblings about how guilty he felt and then about how he was so attracted to Ever within the same sentence. The guilt never felt sincere….really on either Ever’s or Hunter’s part. I also had a huge problem with the end of this book because it felt like the Gardin wanted to have all loose ends tie up perfectly, which I think is impossible for this book. Not everyone can be happy at the end, I don’t care if all of the characters find love…there was major betrayal that would take longer than 3 months to heal from.

With that being said, I am not going to continue on with this series. I really wish that I would have enjoyed it more, but I could not get past the problems I had with this book. I just feel like there are other New Adult books that have better characters, as well as a good story plot.

Thank you for the ARC.

I truly enjoyed this novella. The simplicity of finding oneself amidst pain and anguish, finding comfort where you least expect it, that was Ever journey. She had a very bad home life and one decision she makes changes the course of her world.

This was a quick and relaxing read. I highly recommend it. Although there were other full length novels that expand this story, I liked this just the way it was.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Ever hasn’t lived a charmed life. Losing her mother at an early age she was left to be raised by her father. Unsure of how to deal with the grief of losing his wife, the love of his life, he becomes abusive towards Ever. In her small home town almost everyone is aware of the abuse she suffers but no one ever does anything to help; no one other than her two best friends brothers, Sam and Hunter Waters. Ever has never had anyone to depend on except Sam and Hunter. The three have grown up together and Sam and Hunter have always been there for her when she needed them. Sam has always been her shoulder to lean on, her protector. So when during one of her father’s drunken rages Ever defends herself leaving her father dead she immediately calls Sam.

Sam and Hunter have had their share of trouble with the local law so Sam decides if he runs this will lead the local authorities to assume that he killed Ever’s father taking the blame off of her. He promises Ever that once he lands in a safe place he will send for her. While Sam is gone the more time Ever spends with Hunter the more she feels conflicted. She has always had strong feelings for Sam she loved him forever; but she realizes that she feels something for Hunter too and these feelings are totally different than her feelings for Sam.

Hunter has always loved Ever but she chose his brother to love. Knowing that Ever sees him as more like a big brother and out of loyalty to Sam, Hunter keeps his feelings buried. But when Sam leaves Ever in his care and he and Ever spend more time together Hunter finds it hard to not let his true feelings for her show and he realizes that there is a possibility that Ever may have feelings for him as well. Hunter and Ever must decide if they should betray Sam and follow their hearts or continue to pretend that the only thing between them is friendship.

Although this story is told from Ever and Hunter’s POV it’s when Sam leaves that they all begin to realize they want different things from life. Aside from her abusive home Ever loves her hometown and has no desire to leave. Hunter is much like Ever, he sees himself as a small town boy and is content to stay where his heart is. Sam’s dreams are huge and they don’t include staying in their hometown forever. Sam ends up in South Carolina where he starts to build a new life with promises of sending for Ever. It quickly becomes clear to Hunter that his brother has no intention of returning home. At one point in the story Hunter actually comes out and asks Sam if he really ran to save Ever or if he used the situation to do what he’s always wanted to do, leave home. While Ever also suspects that Sam doesn’t plan to return home she feels that Sam’s love for her is strong enough that he will eventually come home to her; but at the same time she’s struggles with her feelings for Hunter.

This is my introduction to Diana Gardin. I liked the storyline but I kept feeling like I was missing something. Like there was another piece to the story that wasn’t being told; Especially with Sam who kind of plays a major character but is rarely visible in the story. Oddly enough I liked the idea of this other major character who isn’t actually in the story. I searched a bit and found that there is another book told from Sam’s POV “Wanting Forever” which seems to be the first book in this series. Good read but I suggest reading Sam’s story first.

*Warning* Unless you want to give away the ending and the plot, do NOT read the synopsis for "Wanting Forever" (Book 2).

First off, The cover has absolutely no connection with the story, at least from what gathered but you know what they say about judging books by the cover... ;)

I have never read anything by Diana Gardin, but I have a vague recollection of reading about a leading female by the name of "Ever" though I can't recall what. Maybe her books are normally very long, which would make this a novella for her, but I thought it was long for a novella. I am not complaining by any means though! I would have been disappointed if this story was any shorter and I don't really think anything could have been omitted.

"Ever Always" is about friendship between two brothers, Sam and Hunter, and their best friend Ever. Ever's life has been anything but easy, especially at home, and Sam and Hunter are fiercely protective. After tragedy strikes, the bonds of friendship are tested in ways none of them are prepared for.

I think Diana Gardin expressed the raw emotions of the characters, especially Ever and Hunter throughout the book in a way that made it realistic. You could feel the angst and passion as if you were there. Even though I found the end to be predictable (in a good way) and some things a little too good to be true, I enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down.

I highly recommend :)

Ever Always is book two in the Nelson Island series by Diana Gardin. This novella tells the story of Ever Allen and Hunter Waters after Sam has run off to Nelson Island. When I read the first book, Wanting Forever, I hated Hunter and Ever. A lot. Sam is a nice guy who gave everything up to protect the girl he loved. Even though I don’t understand his line of thought or how he believed the choices he’d made in any way benefited him or Ever, I got why he was written that way. He made decisions based on emotions rather than taking the time to think it through clearly, so it fell in line with his character.

“Sam was the fixer; he would rather make her(Ever’s) headaches go away than find out what caused them in the first place.”

Reading Ever Always didn’t really make me change my mind about Ever and Hunter, but something I hadn’t really been expecting happened. I found myself wanting Ever and Hunter to get together. Did I like either one of them? Nope—Ever I especially disliked—but I couldn’t deny their chemistry or the fact that they belonged together. I just didn’t love the way they chose to go about it.

Diana Gardin did a good job of developing the characters and explaining how things had played out. As children, Sam, Hunter and Ever had always been together. The three of them against the world. As they grew, feelings developed, and somewhere along the way Ever chose Sam. Being the dutiful brother, Hunter stepped back. Good for Hunter. Too bad he couldn’t be that loyal as an adult.

To be fair, I liked Hunter a lot more than I did Ever. I understood his emotions more, I felt they were more legitimate, and even the ones that weren’t, made sense when you saw them through the eyes of someone who had been denying his feelings for years. Doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s a douchebag, but I understood him at least. Especially when you take in the complication of a mother who had always favored Hunter.

“Maybe, on some level, he’d just allowed Sam to swoop in and scoop Ever up off her feet when they were teenagers because he knew Sam deserved her love so much more than he did. When Ever had chosen Sam, it had sliced him up inside, but he’d felt relieved. Because finally, Sam had been given the love he deserved.”

Of course, Hunter did a fair amount of blaming Sam for hurting Ever with his happiness. Like Sam should have locked himself inside and embraced misery just because Ever wasn’t next to him. If you love someone, their happiness should make you happy, and the fact that neither Ever nor Hunter cared whether or not Sam was happy pissed me off.

“Hunter tried not to feel bitter, but it wasn’t exactly working. It was going to hurt Ever, seeing what Sam had built down there without her.”

Hunter could only think about Ever and her feelings.

“Hunter could almost feel the tiny pinpricks of pain all of his (Sam’s) comments were inadvertently causing Ever’s heart. Sam would never hurt her on purpose, but Hunter couldn’t fathom why he couldn’t see how this was hurting her. Seeing him happy here was what was going to give her closure, but it still hurt her.”

Unfortunately, I didn’t like Ever at all. She is by far one of the most selfish characters I’ve ever come across, and as far as I’m concerned, Sam is better off without her. From the second Sam left Ever couldn’t think about him without feeling bitter. Like he’d seen her dead father, kissed her on the forehead and said, “Hope you get out of this. I’m on my way to Paris. Catch you later.” She acted like he was on a vacation, and even though she claimed to be happy in Duck Creek and not want to leave, every time she heard Sam talk about Nelson Island she was bitter and angry and jealous. And I don’t think it had anything to do with her loving Sam. I think she just wanted him to be at her beck and call like he always had been.

“He couldn’t see her, couldn’t touch her. Couldn’t comfort her. For the first time in their relationship, he couldn’t be there for her right now. At least not in the way she needed him to be.”

Basically, their relationship had to be on Ever’s terms or it wasn’t going to be. Which to me means she never really loved him. I’ve spent the last ten years following my husband all over the country. Leaving family behind, saying goodbye to friends who are practically family, leaving beautiful places I’ve loved for middle-of-nowhere bases. But it’s all been worth it because I love him. If Ever really loved Sam, she would have been happy to be with him anywhere.

The way Ever and Hunter betrayed Sam is unforgiveable. It’s one of those situations where even though it turned out good for all the parties involved—Sam was free to move on and find his own happiness—it just didn’t justify the actions. And to see Ever get jealous of Sam and Aston after what she’d already done…What a bitch! The clincher for me was after Ever and Hunter left Nelson Island and Ever ended things with Hunter. She couldn’t be happy with hurting just one brother. Oh no, she had to destroy them both in the same day. Nope not a fan of Ever.

Like I said, even though I didn’t like Ever and most of the time I thought Hunter was a jerk, I wanted them to get together. They deserved each other, and had they been a little nobler and gone about it the right way, there could have been a lot less tears and heartache for everyone involved.

The good news about this novella is that it made me love Sam that much more. Sam and Aston were very attracted to each other, but Sam stayed loyal to Ever. He still only thought about her, and he was genuinely happy to see her when she came to visit. Sam is the kind of good guy you want to have as a main character, and this novella only confirmed that.

Once again, Diana Gardin has created characters who are real and complex, and brought out a whole range of emotions. While I didn’t love them, I wasn’t bored reading about them. I even got teary-eyed when Ever finds out she’s going to have her dream job. It’s good when an author can create characters that you find yourself rooting for even though they aren’t exactly the kind of people you like. It means there’s depth to the story, which is what I look for when I read a book. People have layers, and so should characters.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers:
I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

The Characters: I really liked Hunter. He was well-written and I felt like the author did a good job at showcasing his voice.

Ever was a character that I liked, but one that I didn't feel like I really got to know as much as I would have liked to. I knew her past and the situation with her family, but I didn't really get to know what was going on in her head.

That's kind of how it was with Hunter too, but for some reason I felt more connected to him. Maybe, I didn't feel as connected to the characters because it was a novella and the author had less time to dive into their pasts.

Having said that, I did enjoy the characters. I thought some of them made idiotic decisions, but I still liked them.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I enjoyed this one. I thought the writing was great and enjoyed the plot line. It was an intriguing book and one that I read very quickly.

This book focuses primarily on romance, so romance readers should love this one. Fans of novels that focus more on characters, growth, and development probably won't like this one as much. For example, instead of focusing on Ever's grief over her father's death it focuses on the romance. I didn't mind, but for readers who like deep novels exploring grief and overcoming it, this novel isn't for you.

I really enjoyed the novel and am so glad I read it. I would be curious to read the rest in the series.

So why 3.5 stars? An enjoyable read and I really liked it, but not one that really stood out in a significant enough way to be a 4. Just a fun, light read, despite the dramatic beginning.

Warnings/Side-notes: New Adult, but as far as NA went this one was really clean. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one to teens. There are a few sexual comments but there weren't any detailed sexual scenes.

The Wrap-up:
An enjoyable fun read. One that focuses on a cute romance and is actually quite well-written.

Love,

Received via netgalley.

So I am not sure how to feel about Sam. I think in a way he was selfish but he also wasn't. He wanted out of the small town life and helping the woman he loves did that and he jumped on the chance and when his brother asks him straight out he doesn't correct him. This is where he is being selfish but he is protecting Ever which makes it not selfish. Also he is deliriously happy where he is and doesn't really give Ever's feelings or thoughts a thought. He begins to be attracted to someone else but doesn't act on it but I wonder if the girl he is attracted to wasn't also taken would he have. What was worse is when Ever and his brother did kiss he gets indignant..No not really something I think is right.

The story is good. A young woman is protected by two brothers from her dad. One outwardly shows his affection and the other is in love with her but doesn't want to ruin anything with her and his brother. He feels is brother is better for her. A tragedy happens and Sam takes this to get what he wants and protect Ever one more time. Not thinking that Ever wouldn't want to ever join him and for him he can now become more than he is. His brother is behind to help Ever move on and become whole again. The two realize they need each other and get along well. They are attracted to each other but don't want to act on it. One thing leads to another and they can't fight it anymore.

the characters show us the dymanics of the brother relationship and friendship. We also see what happens when a relationship that is easy drifts apart and the two in the relationship don't really know the other. Everyone is inherently good in the book. Sometimes selfish but good.

A good story on friendship, overcoming abuse to move on and become whole, and love. About accepting yourself and that you are what is needed for others. For me the hero in this book is Hunter. He is quiet and there for Ever no matter what. He keeps his love for her in his heart and sets aside his feelings to try to see her happy and when he can't anymore he lets her know.

Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Ever Always is a companion novella to Gardin’s novel, Wanting Forever. In order to get the most out of the two books, it is highly suggested that you read Wanting Forever first. Each book is told in a different point of view from both sides of the major storyline but it is best understood by reading Sam’s POV first.

Much like the first book, Ever Always begins the same night, the night when Sam & Ever’s lives changed forever following the death of her father. Sam has fled to North Carolina, taking the fall for Ever even though her father’s death was justifiable homicide due to domestic violence. When Sam leaves, his older brother Hunter steps in to make sure that Ever is safe and taken care of, just waiting for Hunter to summon her to join him in North Carolina. Of course as the days turn into weeks, and the weeks into months with no plans for Ever to join Sam, Ever and Hunter begin to grow closer together. Their relationship becomes one of mutual need, leading them to question if Ever really ever belonged with Sam after all.

At the end of Wanting Forever I very much disliked Sam and empathized with Ever. I wanted to hear her side of the story because I just didn’t like the way Sam went about finding his new life. While I did appreciate Ever’s story and her perspective, Ever Always didn’t feel like a cohesive story in itself. There was no real sense of timeline and it felt very much like it was written in a way that it would have provided filler for the first book. Perhaps if the two stories were told over the course of the same book, it might feel complete, but as a companion novella, it felt disjointed. While this series may not have been for me, I’ll definitely continue to check out Ms. Gardin’s work.

Ever Always by Diana Gardin

Ever Allen had suffered years of abuse at the hands of her drunken father but one night had her fearing for her life.

Two guys who were very different but yet brothers always came to her rescue.

Ever had managed to get to her room, lock the door and call her boyfriend Sam Waters who reminded her about the hidden gun. In the next instant, her father entered the room threatening her for the last time before she pulled the trigger.

Sam refused to let her take the fall for her father. So he wiped her fingerprints and replaced them with his own, giving him urgency to leave town.

Sam promised her when the time is right they would start over far away from Duck Creek and begin a new life together.

Until then, he asked his brother Hunter to continue to take care of her.

That one event changed everything, it had always been the three of them.

Time apart can make or break a person.

Will a silver lining be found for all involved or will someone get a raw deal in more ways than one?

I LOVED this book! I was rooting for both brothers! Even though, it is impossible for both brothers to have their girl!

I’m always cautious when I come across books with synopses that tell me there’s going to be a love triangle. Good Lord, I worry, where is this going? Am I going to invest in the wrong relationship and be disappointed? Will I even care about the outcome of the relationship? Is there enough substance in the plot for me to give a shit about finishing the book without the relationship element?

Ever Always was a great read—nothing mind-blowing or life changing, but it was an interesting and enthralling read. As much as I usually don’t like books written with alternating points of view, I found that, in the case of Ever Always, it didn’t detract in any way from my enjoyment. There are, of course, plot devices that are clichéd and developments in the characters that seem forced. Yet, despite it, the story of protagonist Ever and the Waters brothers kept me interested from start to finish.

A nice read. Recommended, though not with high enthusiasm.

I received this free eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book started off with a bang and just kept throwing out the punches and surprises throughout the novel! I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this novel and now I'm left wanting more.

Honestly, the way things were going between Ever and Sam, their relationship was rocky at best. Long distance does work, but only if the couple are eventually going to stay in the same state. If neither person wants to relocate it's kind of a moot point to be dating.

If I got my choice out of the brothers, I would totally choose Hunter. So I was definitely rooting for him during this novella.

Really liked this story and I wouldn't be surprised if I eventually get the next book in the series to see what happens to the other characters.

I haven't read previous books, so I I don't know the background of the main characters, but reading these novella I wanted to.

Ever has been through a lot in her lifetime, but she has always had two brothers right by her side. But when Sam leaves town, she has to get used to having Hunter being strong for her to let her know that too can be strong. Hunter has always wanted Ever but since she is his brother's girlfriend, he has locked those feelings up for years.

There was a lot of hurt, redemption and love in this novella.

Ever always is a very nice, charming novella. I read this book quite quickly and i did enjoy the story, however i did feel i was missing something throughout the whole book that stopped me enjoying the story as much as i wanted. After reading this story I did find another book called "Waiting Forever" told by Sam's POV. I read this story after and the things I didn't understand in the novella finally all feel in to place. I would really suggest reading "Waiting Forever" before this book and get to no Sam's POV before you read this story. It isn't made clear that you need to read the story after another book but a lot I found confusing until I read "Waiting Forever.
Ever Always was told in duel POV by Ever and Hunter. Hunter is Sam's brother. The three have them have grown up together, but Ever doesn't have a great childhood and her friendship with Sam and Hunter is the only way she is living through her nightmare. It was heartbreaking knowing that so many people in here home town knew about Ever being abused but never did anything to help her. Sam has always been Evers shoulder to lean on and the one to look after her. Hunter was always just more if the brotherly figure to her. I found knowing Ever had such a great people looking after her and helping her through everything made my heart not break as much for her. I Was glad she wasn't going through all that pain alone. You can tell Ever and Sam are much closer than she is with Hunter and that her feelings for Sam go beyond friendship. Sam sudden leaves because he is helping Ever. He promises that once he is safe he will send for her and they will be happy. However when Sam is gone Hunter is their for Ever and the more time they spend together the more Evers feeling become conflicted.
Hunter has had his run in's with the police, but he has always done the right thing for Ever and his brother. He is so in love with Ever but because Ever always chose Sam to go to and was so much closer to Sam he stood back and put his feelings aside. Now that Sam's gone and he and Ever are so much closer he decides to risk everything to see if she feels the same way about him that he does about her and has done for years?
I honestly wasn't sure who Ever would choose. She has loved one brother for years, but things change and she's not sure what she is meant to do. Knowing she was going to break one of the brothers hearts was heartbreaking as both brothers loved her so much. I wanted to know who she choose and how the other brother reacted to her choice?
The story was really sweet and heart breaking. The author really made all three characters extremely loveable and the story was exactly the kind of story I love to read. I just really wish we were told to read Sam's story first so things made more sense. Although I enjoyed the story I would of absolutely loved the story if I'd read "Waiting Forever" first.

This book has a great concept. This book is about what happens between Hunter and Ever once Sam leaves after he tells Ever to say that he killed her father and not her. Hunter has always had feeling for Ever. He saw her as someone special even before Sam did. Once Ever and Sam took their relationship to more than just friends he stepped back. Now that Sam is gone he is having trouble keeping those feelings at bay. At first Ever is getting over the fact that she killed her father and then lost Sam in the same night. He isn’t dead but she needs him while she is grieving and instead he left. While he did that because thought that was what was best at the time doesn’t change anything. Once Ever starts living again it becomes even harder for Hunter. Ever is finally able to do all the things she could never do before. She has a new friend Rilla and Rilla is helping Ever come out of her shell. Ever is starting to have feeling for Hunter and has guilt over this. She is seeing that Hunter has always been part of her life the same as Sam she just never realized it before. Now that she is spending more time with him she is realizing that she sees him and more than Sam’s brother and maybe they are meant to be and not Sam and her. Ever has all these new feeling and thoughts going through her heart and mind. She isn’t sure what to do about them at first. Once Sam starts writing her about what is going on with him since he left she sometimes feels and anger and annoyance with him. He is building this whole new life without her. Sam lets her know in one of her letters that he wants her to move to where he is and they can start over together. Ever loves duck creek and it isn’t until she goes to visit him that she truly realizes that Sam and her aren’t going to be together forever. But that doesn’t mean she will instantly fall into Hunter’s arms either. How can she say she ever truly loved Sam if she turns around and immediately goes to be with his brother? Will everyone come out okay or will three lives be forever changed with no happy ending in sight? I really like this book and love how it explained what happened between Ever and Hunter after Sam left. A lot of times you read a book where something like what happens in the first book happens and you are left wondering why what happened happens. I feel for Ever so has been through so much with her father. Then once he is gone her life almost gets worse instead of better. While no one is abusing her anymore she still has to deal with all this stuff. Plus learning what she really wants and feels. I can’t say enough about how much I love the concept of this book. I look forward to reading the last book in this trilogy as well as other books by Diana Gardin.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.

Ever Always is novella about abuse and the lengths that are taken to make the abuse stop. This a short novella that is about 100 pages. It was quick read but it was full of angst and sadness, and a romance thrown in the mix. I would give this story a 3.5 star and would recommend it to others. It is a standalone with no cliffy and is told in dual POV's of Ever and Hunter.

Ever has been abused by her father for years and when she finally takes matters in her own hands it becomes and even bigger nightmare when her boyfriend Sam will take the blame. She feels like she has nothing left in the world but she soon figures out that she was wrong because Hunter is still there for her. Hunter is Sam's brother and has loved Ever since they were kids but lost his chance when Sam made a move, but now that same is somewhat out of the picture and he is left to pick up the pieces of Ever's life his attraction will grow and he doesn't know if he can hold them in anymore. Sam has made a new life for himself far away because he is now working on a farm hiding out but what he doesn't realize is that this might be the best thing that has ever happened to him. Will Sam be able to let go of Ever and his past life and move forward? Will Ever be able to move on after everything and realize that maybe all along Hunter was the right man for her all along? Will Hunter finally get what he deserves and live a happily ever after with Ever?

There is another book in this series which is Sam's story and its called Wanting Forever and I look forward to reading it! This is the first book I have read from this author but I look forward to more in the future, go get it now!

I have to say, I found this book somewhat confusing. I think part of the problem is that it feels like we begin mid-story, and one third of the main characters immediately vacates the book. It is just difficult to believe in this all consuming love between Ever and Sam, when we never actually witness it.

We are told—repeatedly—that the three grew up together, and that the Sam and Hunter were Ever’s only friends, as well as her only refuge. The problem is, as the book goes along, it seems more and more obvious that none of the three actually know each other at all. It is almost like Hunter never existed before to Ever, and clear that neither Sam nor Ever had any inkling of what the other wanted out of life. I just cannot make sense of that, there are too many contradictions.

Unfortunately the writing is sort of simplistic, with not enough attention paid to the characters’ voices. Despite being presented in dual perspective, both parts of the narrative are so similar that it is often quite difficult to discern who is currently “speaking”. Additionally, there seems to be an ongoing problem knowing when to use names or other personal pronouns, resulting in quite a few paragraphs reading a bit like a Dick & Jane book.

In the end, though the concept was interesting, the execution needs quite a bit more polish.

2.5 rounded to 3 stars.

For the sake of full disclosure it must be stated that I received this book, free of charge, from Netgalley.

This novella started off on a BANG. Literally. From therein, though, I was not overly impressed by the characters. I found that Ever, who started off devotedly in love with Sam was almost too easily swayed in his absence. I get it, that was sort of the whole point but she came off as weak to begin with (let's be honest, she really let Sam just take off without much of a fight) and didn't get all that much better through this short story. Hunter wasn't too much better. Yes, he's loved Ever from the get-go and "let Sam have her" but I felt that he really jumped in at the most opportune time and made things happen in Sam's absence. Although the novella alludes to Sam's original intention to get out of Duck Creek was just was masked by his heroics to protect Ever, I can't help but feel a bit bad for him. Of course, there are three sides to this story...

As happy as I am for Ever and that things work out awesome for her in life, I felt like everything was resolved much too easily (really, I think there was a page or so that just resolved all the issues that the book started off with). I also have to mention that Ever's name does (as cool as it is) starts the story off on a confusing note!! As such, I wasn't particularly taken by this story as I didn't fall absolutely in love with the characters nor was a super-impressed by the plot but, hey, one can only expect so much development from a novella!

So this was my first Diana Gardin book, and I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since it's a novella and novella's usually are not my thing. But I'm happy to say that Ever Always blew me away with it's amazingness in the end.

I've yet to read the first book in the series and in a way, I'm really glad I didn't because I probably would have despised Ever for what happened. But this way? I got to know her, I felt her, I lived through the emotions with her, making me understand why she did what she did. The poor girl... She broke my heart with what she must have went through, but at the same time she pieced it back together in the end in a way that left me more than satisfied.

And then there was Hunter... Dear, sweet, sexy, hot, leave-me-breathless, Hunter. The brother of Ever's boyfriend, and the perfect man. He's alpha in some ways, but wants Ever to come into her own at the same time. You know a man is good when he upholds those qualities.

I'm not going to be spoilery, but I will say this is one to tug at your heart strings in a very short span of time. It's beautifully written, full of heart and emotions that make you want to swoon and get teary at the same time. And now, even more than I was before, I'm eager to crack open book one and read Sam's story. Fabulous job, Ms. Gardin. You've got some serious talent!

Brothers, Sam and Hunter. Ever Allen, the girl in the middle of it all.
Thy shalt not covet your brother's girlfriend.

After a tragic incident one night, Sam does a noble but stupid thing and goes on the run. Leaving his girl, Ever behind in the care of his brother until he can send for her. Things happened and pinned up feelings are reluctantly unleashed. Everything and everyone is changing and maybe moving on. Ever knows she must make a choice and Hunter hopes she chooses correctly this time.

Surprisingly, it doesn't end in a cliffhanger and there is a HEA.......but I felt cheated, let me tell you why.

First, Hunter and Ever, after all the build up and I get one "Fade to Black/Skipped" scene. REALLY?? You know how I feel about those. That cost you a 1/2 point.

Second, I didn't get to hear Sam's side of the story. I was thinking.....Sam is an asshat. Why did he not immediately go after HIS girl when he clearly saw that she was upset when she ran out the bar? Then I was thinking.....Sam is a punk-ass biatch. Why does he turn and sprint away when he sees HIS girl and Hunter, HIS brother kissing?

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.....I guess we will find out in book #2, Wanting Forever. 3 1/2 Stars

I knew going into this book there was going to be some hurt feelings. Of course, love is a tricky thing, and it's even harder when the person you love loves your brother or sister instead. That's why I was both eager and apprehensive; I wanted to know how it would be handled.

Diana Gardin does a fantastic job at setting up a new series and introducing new characters. I really liked Ever, Hunter, and Sam. They were just people caught up in their situations. I really felt horrible for Ever. Especially the circumstances that forced Sam to leave her. I also felt anger at those who knew about what was going on with Ever and didn't do anything to help her or stop what was going on.

I must admit I really swooned over Hunter. He's in a difficult spot, but he's honorable, and truly loves and cares for Ever. Knowing how much he hurt being around Ever and his brother when they were together only solidified what I felt for him. He never took the easy way out.

I read this novella in a very short period of time. I couldn't put it down. I'm also excited about the full length novels that will be coming in this series. I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens to everyone in the future.

Ever Always is the second book in the Nelson Island series. Ever has known Sam and Hunter most of her life. She is best friends with both brothers; the boys have always looked out for her. Hunter always thought he'd have his HEA with Ever but when Sam, his younger brother, expressed an interest he let him have her. Ever was abused by her father and one night she takes things into her own hands. Sam goes on the run to protect Ever...but I don't think his motives are completely selfless, he's always wanted to get out of Duck Creek. Hunter promises to take care of Ever but can he keep his feelings for her in check?

This was a good story about surviving abuse and friendships. The characters were all good people, who sometimes did selfish things. The author did a good job of making me feel the characters emotions and turmoil. This was a good book that I couldn't put down. I wanted to find out who Ever would find her always with.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a love story and doesn't object to love triangles.

In this Novella between Wanting Forever and Falling Deep, we see what happened in Wanting Forever from Ever and Hunter's point of view. We see all that happened back in Duck Creek while Sam is off living his live on Nelson Island. We really get a feel about the heartache that Ever goes through from the word choices that Diana Gardin has used. You start to wonder if Hunter and Ever will make it as you go through the book. We know what happened with the kiss on Nelson Island, but what happened after that? What happened with Hunter and Ever after Sam kicked them out? Did they make it? You really will wonder as you read through the book. I will not give away what happens at the end, good or bad. I cannot wait to start on Falling Deep. This has been a very interesting contemporary romance series so far. Hopefully there will be more!

This was always going to be a difficult read after the events of 'Waiting Forever'. Ever came across in that as sulky and selfish and her actions with Hunter didn't endear her to me. I get that you can't help who you fall in love with but there is a way of dealing with that minimises the hurt on all sides. I am completely empathetic to the life that she had with her father and the situation she found herself in. However, there was an immaturity about that was difficult to overlook and to find endearing. And whilst Diana Gardin has made a real effort to reedem Ever, she hasn't quite succeeded for me. Hunter is not on my likeable list either.

The conflict that they both felt as they battled their feelings for each other was brilliantly written but I couldn't find much sympathy for them as it came tumbling down around them.

I didn't know this was the second in a series when I read it.

I may have liked it better if I'd read the first one, but I didn't connect with the characters that well. The book started out great, and I thought I'd be in for a wild and amazing ride. Unfortunately, Ever was a disappointment, Sam was a disappointment and Hunter saved the book, but not until later on.

Ever is so helpless. Which was such a letdown after the strong start of the book. Sam wasn't a big part of this story, so I didn't get to know him and didn't really care about him. I thought Hunter was a solid character. He's the reason I finished the book.

This is Hunter's and Ever Allen's story (Sam's brother and his ex girlfriend) So I was iffy on whether or not I wanted to read this. This is a honest to Gosh pull at your heart, rip out your guts love story, told in a short amount of time. And that really shocked me, normally short stories don't go into enough detail and leaving you wanting more, this left you feeling filled.
There is some triggers in the story, there is a drunken father who is abusive and someone does shoot and kill him, there is a strong bond between 3 people and it just strengths.
At first I was alittle bit upset with how things ended up but then you realize everybody ends up with the right person in the end.

Excellent!!!!

Awesome read. Hard to read at times but told with empathy and Love. Ever and Hunter are both bound by what they think is true. But they are also drawn together by longing and unspoken love. Once they can see themselves free of the past, maybe they will find each other. These characters jump off the page and into our hearts. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
