I'm a writer by day, college instructor by night and a late sleeper on weekends. I grew up reading Greek mythology, bringing home stray cats and making up stories about bodies in the basement. From an early age, my family knew I would either end up as a writer or the old lady with a hundred cats. As luck would have it, I married a man with allergies so writing it was.

I started out writing romantic comedy for Harlequin and Kensington, and made the leap to mainstream in 2009 with Getting Rid of Rosie, a paranormal comedy.

When I'm not writing or teaching, I like to canoe, cross-country ski and watch movies. I usually have three books on the go as well -- one by the bed, one in the bathroom, and one in the family room. At least two of those are usually research books for whatever I'm working on at the time. I think that half the appeal of writing is the research!

Love, Albert is a lighthearted romantic comedy that follows the story about a couple who are heading towards a divorce, until a deceased uncle's final request in his will brings them together on a journey that might bring them back together.

Vicky and Reid Ferguson have been together for eight years, but six months ago the realization that they want two very different lifestyles derails their marriage, and even though they love each other, the differences in their lifestyle choices has them on the road to getting a divorce. That is until Reid's Uncle Albert unexpectedly passes away and leaves his estate to Vicky and Reid. Albert requests that Vicky and Reid take his ashes to Seaport, Oregon, and scatter them at Jackson's Point. Can a deceased uncle's final request and a road trip from California to Oregon be the unexpected and perfect way to bring Vicky and Reid back together for a fresh start?

Author Lynda Simmons weaves an entertaining tale that easily draws the reader into Vicky and Reid's journey. With a nice mixture of drama, humor, and romance, Uncle Albert's last wishes unknowingly brings this couple back together as their journey up the west coast gives them a last chance to patch their marriage up before heading for divorce court.

The author does a wonderful job of giving the reader a picture of how funny Uncle Albert was in life, and how this lovable prankster's divine intervention unexpectedly draws his two favorite people together, a broken couple who are still very much in love with each other, only to be at odds when it comes to agreeing upon a marriage based on a common lifestyle. You can't help but cheer on Vicky and Reid as the road trip gives them an unexpected and much needed chance to air out the differences in their marriage, along with the hope that Uncle Albert's last wishes will be enough to bring them back together. I loved the mixture of humor and romance that was interwoven throughout the story, it made the story both entertaining and endearing, and it easily kept me turning the pages and wondering if the road trip would save Vicky and Reid's marriage.

Love, Albert is an enjoyable story about a couple's undeniable love that is given a second chance through a departed loved one's divine intervention. It is a sweet story that will leave a smile on your face.

Vicky Ferguson is trying desperately to get her sweet talking, bad boy husband, Reid Ferguson to sign divorce papers, but a challenge is thrown their way when Reid's beloved Uncle Albert passes away suddenly leaving them a will that involves taking a road trip to deliver the ashes and an mysterious key. Their respect for Uncle Albert leads them to agreeing to the road trip, one that they must do together, leaving their two young children behind. The road trip gets heated when Reid's fancy sports car gets stolen and Vicky is left saying "I told you so." Like an act of fate, the two of them are stuck together alone-and Vicky is faced with the tough decision of staying with Reid, her true love, or leaving him behind to pursue a more practical life .

Love, Albert had me at hello. From the moment that I started reading, I was captivated by Simmons' well written prose and character descriptions. I felt like she had the perfect amount of plot and portrayal without being too wordy and drawn out. Early on, I found myself rooting for Reid. Simmons' did an incredible job at sprinkling mystery throughout the book while holding true to her character development. Oftentimes when I read a novel, I find myself being either more attached to the character or more attached to the plot, but in Love, Albert, I felt an equal attraction to both parts of the story. Simmons' had a lot of relevant quotes peppered throughout the story as well, and one that stood out is
"What if the things that brought you together are the very things that are driving you apart?" I think most people have been in relationships where they can ask themselves this question, whether it be an old friendship or a romantic link.
I couldn't put the book down because I was so eager to find out it Reid and Vicky would rekindle their marriage. At times it felt like a tug-of-war, as I was so torn about whether she would go back to Reid or not. This book has the power to get anyone to believe in love.

I will certainly be looking for more of Lynda Simmons' novels.

I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Vicky and Reid, who most people would think of as being the ideal couple, are suffering a widening and irrepairable rift in their eight year long marriage. While Reid is the adventurous and boisterous pilot, who loves being above the ground and hates being tied down to the boring monotony of every day life, Vicky needs some stability and firm ground under her feet. Still very much in love with each other, they sadly come to terms with the fact that they are wired up entirely differently and resort to a divorce. They are forced to swallow their bitterness when unexpectedly, Vicky's uncle, Albert passes away. Before breathing his last, he had requested for his ashes to be taken to Oregon and scattered in Jackson's port by Vicky and Reid. Not wanting to scoff at a dying man's wish, the two set off, although reluctantly on a life-changing journey. Does the journey serve to heal their past and help them come back together, is what the story is about.

The story was a brilliant take on diverse themes all at once - wry humour, fading romance, pursuits in life, emotional dependencies and realisation of what one truly wants. The author has a terrific way with words, all filled with enjoyable wit and Albert's character has been used as the tool to bring this element out. The struggle and change of hearts for both Vicky and Reid have been brought out well. The mid-life crisis and how the two overcome it, is heartening to read.

Overall, this was a superb book and I loved it. I definitelu recommend this book for everyone!

Love, Albert is the story of Reid and Vicky. Reid is a live in the moment kind of a guy and Vicky wants to settle down and grow roots for her children. Reid refuses to buy a house and Vicky kicks him to the curb. When the beloved Uncle Albert dies, he sends them on a trip to scatter his ashes. Reid sees the trip as an opportunity to win Vicky back, but Vicky just wants to resist the temptation that is Reid and get the darn trip over all ready.

The idea of this novel caught my attention right away. As a pilot’s wife, I was interested to see why exactly Vicky kicked Reid to the curb. I could imagine quite a few reasons. The story could have done with a bit more back story. The blanks that were filled in during the story were a bit sketchy and boiled down to one issue: the house. There was more to the separation, obviously, but the reader only gets hints along the way. I also liked the idea that the story was not about two young people, but two adults with very adult (read – often mundane and boring) problems.

I enjoyed the story, but I was a bit disappointed with the lack of character development. There are hints and suggestions of development throughout the novel, but, in the end, the solution is simplistic. It was almost as if the author was rushed to finish the novel. Some aspects of the story were very annoying because they were so darn realistic. The couple refused to talk out their problems and Reid was so inept at wooing Vicky I could have yelled at him.

Overall an enjoyable read.

Love Albert by Lynda Simmons

Independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.
I was lucky to get this book for an honest review, so here we go.
It's a sweet story but could have been much so more for my liking.
Vicky is in love with her husband and they both want something different from life. She wants a house and roots he wants freedom with her to go where they want when they want. She files for a divorce even though she still loves him and he still loves her but can he change his life? Then his uncle Albert dies and send them on a last quest together will it make a difference???
This book a little to calm for me but still a nice enough story for a young adult. It didn't grip me as much as some of the other books I have read and because of that I will give it a 3.5 but round it up to a 4 star.

Vicky and Reid are heading right to divorce court if something doesn't change in their marriage. What will it take when you have two people wanting two different things but still in love with each other. What does Uncle Albert have to do with it? Can his interference change it all or will it be the final straw for divorce? Loved how the book hit on the realistic of life in so many marriages. Well written and easy to follow. Add this book to your list of books to read!
