The final in this serial is a solid four stars. ☺

The sexy times started very early on in this last novella of the Moray Druids, similar to books 1 and 2. It worked a bit better in this one for me since we'd seen snapshots of Malcolm in both previous installments and were able to get to know him more so than the characters in Insolent and Indecent.

Vian, I felt for her. Ms. Byrne has written a couple of female characters who I've really enjoyed, my fave being Rhona in Unwanted. But this book's heroine is pretty damn interesting as well.

Had the book been longer, specifically if more words had been devoted to the time the MC's spent in the forest together, getting to know each other and realizing they would be willing put their lives on the line for each other, this would have been a five star read. I still enjoyed it of course, and it was my favorite out of this trilogy.

Incarnate brings the conclusion to Kerrigan Byrne’s paranormal series, The Moray Druids. This series was another signature Kerrigan delivery as a whole, short and sweet with some hotness and paranormal actions sprinkled in it. Incarnate is the story of Druid King Malcolm, whom we find making some serious decisions to save the world from a coming apocalypse.

The de Moray family is one of the most ancient families of Druids and Witches in the Highlands. Right now, there are only 3 surviving members who are fighting an insane battle to save the world from said apocalypse. Malcolm’s power lies in the element of earth. His sister, Morgana, the h of book 1, Insolent, wields the power of water. Kenna, their cousin and the h of book 2, Indecent, can manipulate fire. An ancient tome called the Grimoire is what they’re trying to hide from an evil trio, the Wyrd Sisters. These three were once a part of the De Moray family but have gone astray when they surrendered to the dark and evil magic to enhance their powers. Now they seek the Grimoire, which holds the secrets of the universe; everything that you can think of, to use it to bring about that apocalypse and ultimately, to rule the world.

Morganna and Kenna, both sisters are mated to the berserkers Bael and Niall. Morganna met Bael when she was returning (rather escaping back) to Scotland from England where she was in an exile of sort. Bael, on the other hand, was fighting in what was supposed to be his last clash with the enemies to end a long, miserable and unwanted existence as a berserker. He had no interest in living to drench himself in the bloodbath anymore. Their meeting was swift and rather unexpected, as if fate brought them together. Morganna, seeking protection to reach her homeland safely, had to ‘convince’ Bael to escort her. Bael had no interest since he was angry that Morganna used her healing power on him and now he’s decidedly not as dead as he wished to be. But his beast has decided it wanted Morganna, so on the way to Scotland, they end up sleeping together, which means Bael becomes mated to Morganna. She tells him of the trouble that’s brewing when the Wyrd sisters pay a visit even before she could reach her home. At that time, the Grimoire was with Kenna, who was supposed to be somewhere hiding and protecting the ancient tome.

Kenna was hiding in an ancient abbey where the nuns had no idea who or what she was. And she was being punished by the sadistic Abbess more often than not for her supposed impudence. Then they decided she was a witch, so more punishment... and that’s how Niall, who came to raid the abbey with his men, found her. He’s... er, attracted to her on spot (you gotta read that scene :p), while Kenna finds a way out of the abbey with this distraction he and his men were providing. She also takes the matter into hand, and er, ends up mating with Niall’s beast. Et voilà, now Niall is bound to her forever!

Niall is not happy to be ‘tricked’ into mating, much like Bael but he can’t stand back and relax when he also learns of the upcoming trouble and the reason behind Kenna’s presence in this abbey. So they, including Niall’s men, travel to Dun Moray to face what’s coming for them next. Morganna was already there with Bael and waiting for Kenna’s arrival.

When the evil sisters finally strike at their keep, they manage to steal the Grimoire, opening up the possibilities of a whole new array of chaos in their wake.

Have to mention that Malcolm was NOT happy to find his sister mated with a berserker, a group of people that the Picts generally despise. Sadly, he didn’t know that Kenna was also going to bring in another berserker as her mate. Poor Malcolm! I had too much fun reading his monologues in book 2. The only reason he welcomed them to the family (sort of) was the fact that both men were devoted to their mates and would die for them if needs be. Niall’s army was also a thorn at his side since Malcolm uses his magical power to guard his land and its people. Since Niall is now an inhabitant of his castle, his men, too are here to annoy him to death. Too many Vikings going around for Malcolm’s peace of mind that’s for sure! LOL But then, he has something bigger to worry about because the Wyrd sisters still have the Grimoire and he needs to save before everything is lost.

One day, on his way to investigate something, Malcolm comes across a beautiful woman in tattered, dirty clothing, hurt and asking for help. It was in the middle of the woodlands and seeing no one else around, he stops his horse to help her. Malcolm isn’t happy to see that she’s living in this hovel that is barely standing. I don’t know why he didn’t have any suspicion about her, for being a druid he must’ve had some sense of darkness or danger around her. Then, while helping her settling in, Malcolm ends up sleeping with her. That was quite unexpected, at least for me, because he always came off as a cautious, reasonable man, if not always in a pleasant mood.

The reason why I’m saying this is because Vían was anything but what she appeared to be; a damsel in distress. Once, long ago, she was a human being but that was before she’d given her soul to the evil. Though the story behind it was sad, she’d been caught in the darkness created by Badb, the most evil of the Wyrd sisters. Vían lived centuries as a shade, until Badb summons her to do her bidding; seduce the Druid king, then utter this spell to wreck havoc on his magical power. Apparently, she has been used by Badb before to play the seductress and harm other individuals. But the truth was, Vían was basically no villain. She had a conscience; barely tickling at this point but it was there. She hated what she had to do for her ‘mistress’ but after spending so many years into a dark nothingness that almost rendered her insane, Vían would do anything to gain a little bit of freedom. This time, the task seems to be much more important as Badb promises complete freedom— ONLY if she can capture the Druid King for her.

But Vían could never do anything on time. After a beautiful night making love to this man, who has already shown her kindness, telling her who he was, she was beginning to crave what she shouldn’t have— love. She was craving a little affection, and Malcolm’s touch gave her the sustenance, a faint hope, though she knew there’s no way this can lead to anything good. She’s not made for those things anymore, and no matter what her heart wants, she’s here to do her mistress’s bidding. And she’d failed to deliver the blow when she should’ve, which means she’d be thrown back to her ‘old’ existence. Either way, Malcolm would hate her with all his being once he knows the truth. For Vían, the misery brought by this hatred wouldn’t measure up to anything else.

In the morning light, Malcolm shocks Vían by asking for her hand. It was apparent that one night of sex and talk somewhat relieved the enormous burden he’s been carrying on since his puberty. Malcolm has never had a moment to really relax and enjoy his life since he had too many responsibilities befitting his status. But in this hovel, in the wood where he’s in his element, with this beautiful woman who can make love like no other, Malcolm finally felt at east. And that mattered to him immensely. He wanted Vían in his life so that he can turn to her after a long day of shouldering his responsibilities, that is, if they can recover the Grimoire and avert that apocalypse.

But things don’t go smooth as trouble finds them even before Malcolm could take his would-be bride to his keep... And to find out the serious decisions he had to make to save the world for future generations, read this book. The ‘big showdown’ was pretty thrilling IMO.

Apparently, de Moray family stories don’t end with Incarnate. In the end, we’re given hints as to how Malcolm’s decision would affect the future generations of de Morays. There’s an anthology called Which Witch is Which? where their legacy continues in a contemporary setting. I hope to grab it and read in future. But for now, I can only say that I’m in love with the medieval setting that Kerrigan uses for her hot Druids and Berserkers, where the magic is still very much alive. I’d love to see more books set in that era! 4 stars.

Yep - did not like the heroines in the series. This one - I just don't know what to say. I know I should be more understanding of her situation, but she was going to seduce him so they could kill him. I know the author tried to show her to be selfless later, but she had already admitted to seducing men before because she was told to. I just can't get beyond that. Hero deserved a better heroine. He seemed like a great guy.

I've waited with baited breath for the last book in the Moray Druids and Malcolm's book didn't disappoint. So much in this short story that you don't really realize that it is a novella. It satisfies all the needs of a full book and continues the story in such a way that I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Such passion, such love, and sacrifice. Beautifully written in true Kerrigan Byrne style. Just loved this story. Highly recommended.

We've come to the end of this series! Some mixed feelings from me about Duncan and Vían. First of all, what a beautiful name Vían is. She also had beautiful amethyst eyes. But it was a case of instalove, I am afraid. I wasn't the biggest fan of the seduction tactics, though if I were Vían, I'd be pretty dang desperate to escape the clutches of those evil witches too. Both Vìan and Duncan suffered heavily at the hands of these evil witches, but I felt it was more told than shown.

In terms of Duncan, his connection to the forest and his power, it didn't feel fleshed out or explained properly. I ended up thinking he wasn't all that. I've been imagining disheveled ginger scruff and wild hair on a grumpy man. Sorry, but berserkers are more my cup of tea.

And the love scenes, yes. They strike again. The dungeon scene? It's not that romantic... No surprises that I have been skipping these scenes. But everyone is well endowed, guaranteed.

This novella also felt shorter (even more so) than the preceding ones, and the battle scene was a little short. The ending was also felt slightly rushed and the reunion between Vían and Duncan a little sappy. Despite this, I did like the theme of how love is more powerful than hatred. So that was a good way to end this series.

4 Stars (jess michaels (fire), Jayne Castel, Ashe Barker, Cecelia Mecca)

....sexy good short story with a little ‘Scottish magic and historical tales’ (king druid and lost soul).

I really did like the H/H’s for all the books; well paired as a couple in its writing.

writing style is easy to follow. Strong women, humour and overall enjoyable read.

romantic/sexual content is written well throughout the book (kissing, oral, love making) I’d rate it 4/5 steam and fire.

I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series).

I’m not a huge fan of ‘internal dialogue’ in books. I can only take so much before I start skimming through pages and I found myself doing that with this book/series. But nothing that was too annoying for me.

would absolutely recommend the book and the series. you don’t have to read the series in order but i would suggest you do read them in order because the history of characters would bring better enjoyment of the stories in general.

Considering this was the last book in the series and it was only 8 chapters there was no way I was going to be satisfied enough with the ending. The shortness of this one severely impacted the story. Honestly I enjoyed it, but there were issues caused by how short the story is. In her other books she is able to make the quickness of the story work well, but with this one it just needed more. In a normal book the ending itself could have been 8 chapters. Overall, I liked it but it could have been so much better if the length was doubled.

my heart doesn't let me give this the 2 stars it truly deserves. i mean, a story like this one had soooo much potential & i loved malcom something fierce. but meh?
the entire storyline of this last trilogy was mediocre & all the love stories felt rushed and underdeveloped. i know, i know, i know, it's novellas and i am biased, because i am obsessed with the second trilogy.

kerrigan byrne had some bad days while writing these novellas and that is fine. in the words of hannah montana, "everybody has those days, everybody makes mistakes"

Tense, Dark, Extremely Good End Of An Amazing Series:
WOW! What a fantastic read and series. Books are short and filled with emotions, magic, Berserkers, witches, descriptive heated intimacy that is fan worthy, and so much more.
The end of this amazing series. Each can be a stand alone but best to read the entire series in order. Each one gets hotter and more intense.
Mature Reader.

Malcom de Moray is the King of the Druids and is determined to stop the pending apocalypse. The forces of evil have failed to bring Malcom to their side at every turn. They send someone to steal his magic. Vian has spent a hundred years as a prisoner of the evil druids. She will do anything to be free.
Malcom and Vian's love story is one for the ages.

3.5 stars - final novella in the Moray trilogy, and final in the collection of all nine Highland Magic novellas. Great tension leading up to the final explosive conflict. Overall, the entire series is a creative blend of history, mythology and fantasy. Not my normal preference, but really nice for a change of pace. I enjoy this author and will continue to read on in her other series.

4 stars.

I AM SO SAD. I did not want to finish this series. These novellas have been perfect ways to spend an evening when I want to get lost in a Medieval hot romance.
That being said while this wasn't my favorite, I still really liked it and Malcolm was a good guy. If this was a full length novel, I would have loved getting into his dichotomy of king/ earth druid.

I didn't enjoy the other two books in this series at all but this one was definitely worth getting through the others to get to this book. Much better and brought back what I loved in this authors' novellas. In these interconnecting series, she started off strong in Unspoken and ended strong with incarnate. This entire series was satisfying and surpassed my expectations. Six out of nine books will be reread and I personally think those are pretty good numbers for short stories. Kerrigan has a knack for novellas you can believe in but she can also do amazing wonders when she writes a full length book as seen in "A Righteous Kill" her romantic suspense novel. From what I've seen so far, her writing isn't limited to one style or one genre and that itself is what you call talent. I'll be checking out her Victorian series soon as well. So anyway, back to the book...

Malcolm's story was a lot more simple than I expected it to be. The last book it was hinted that something happened when he was kept captive by the Wyrd sisters that still shook him to the core. I expected it to be something big but it was kinda just glossed over and addressed once but left at that. The only thing I would have changed about this story is explaining how he escaped his captivity considering he just appears out of nowhere in the first book no explanation and going into a little more detail of what exactly was done to him that left him so traumatized. it didn't take away from the book for me at all but it would have made it more legit on an emotional level as I was expecting to see some gritty stuff.

Vian was a perfect match for Malcolm and I loved her. I don't blame her for taking advantage of her initial intentions even though they were bad. She was desperate and I think anyone in her place would have done anything to get out of that dark, lonely prison. She is immediately taken with Malcolm understandably but even more when she sees he's unlike any other man she's come across, dead and alive. He's respectful, kind hearted, and honorable. Even with the hell she's been subjected too, she can see that he doesn't deserve to be betrayed. With Vian, he is simply a man. He doesn't carry any of that extra weight on his shoulders, she takes it away and he's at peace for once. The emotion and appreciation she shows at his affection although very simple is endearing and real. He can see that she doesn't care about him being the king, she only sees him as a person, a man she feels connected to and longs to be loved, the same way he does. Vian herself points out how he can feel something for her when they barely know each other but they just work. It feels like they're half of the same soul and I believe in their love. They wanted the same thing to love and be loved, to feel wanted and needed by someone, to feel protected, so it's natural that they would have such strong feeling in such a short time.

I love that he didn't just throw her away in anger. He went and got the truth before making any hasty decisions he might regret. His behavior and actions were understandable considering she lied to him so I don't hold that against him because he didn't know the full story. The fate of the crazy witches was awesome and overall a great conclusion to the story. Along with Malcolm's negotiation though, it did set off a chain reaction for the future De Moray line in the future which leads up to the "Which Witch Is..." series co authored with 3 other writers which I've also enjoyed. I'm excited to see how the rest of that's series plays out. I commend the author for all of her Celtic series books as I've enjoyed reading them and seeing the creative twists she can put on each one. Amazing job, Kerrigan!!! Looking forward to more from you!!!

Ohhhhh I so sad to give only 3 star to a book in this series... :(

I usually love these novellas even if they're short, but this one was was soo short that everything ended almost before starting!!!

There was no emotion involved but a peculiar lighting fast insta-lust transforming into everlasting love during 3 pages!!! WOW!!!

A look leads to a hot night of sex and Malcom is ready to sacrifice everything for Vian!

My head was spinning and, just like dthat, the story ended and they had their HEA... Mah...

I wanted so much from Malcom's story but I was left wanting... :(

This was my first book by Ms. Byrne, and I was intrigued from the beginning. I admit, I felt a bit lost since I didn’t know the characters, but I still easily followed the storyline. I will definitely go back and read the others! I was definitely in the mood for a fantasy tale, and this story didn’t disappoint.
It’s a novella, but that didn’t stop me from watching the story fly by. The writing was superb and it was a sexy tale, I definitely need more from this author!

From the first word to the last, I was entranced!! This novella has it all~~ Druids, Vikings, Witches, the Four Horsemen, a bloody battle, and of course- steamy sex. King Malcolm meets a woman in the woods. Who is she, where did she come from?? She is so beautiful-the King really wants her. Will she be the end of him and his Kingdom??
Fast paced and breathtaking!! Loved it!!

I still love her books, but this was not my favorite. Maybe it's not fair because I think I don't like it as much because the hero is not a berserker and that is why I love her books to begin with. Also, I think Malcolm had a lot more potential, they need to give her more pages for her books!
