Loving The Senator

Rate this book
On the outside, Alex Conrad has everything. He’s gorgeous, rich, and has just been elected to the United States Senate by the state of Virginia.

But for the past few years, something has plagued Alex. Something has been missing from his life of privilege and opportunity. Something he has never allowed himself to acknowledge, until the night of his election.

Prudence Romaine is seventeen years Alex’s junior. The daughter of a friend whose life had taken a wrong turn, Prudence came into Alex’s life when she was just sixteen. Despite the passage of time and evidence to the contrary, Alex still thinks of Prudence as the little girl he once tried to rescue.

On election night, the sexual tension between Prudence and the senator reaches a tipping point. Prudence has been in love with Alex for some time, and now that she is in a position to do something about it, she has her aim set on Senator Conrad with no plans of giving up.

But Alex is already committed and a scandal is the last thing the newly-elected politician needs. As Alex pushes Prudence away, convinced their relationship can only end badly for them both, Prudence becomes even more determined to have Alex Conrad in her bed as well as her heart.

And Alex? He can only hold out for so long. And once he gives in, the passion they've held back for years threatens to undo them. But loving the senator is not all it's cracked up to be.

Prudence must learn to handle the pressure that comes with being with a high-profile politician, Alex's jealous ex-girlfriend, and the demands of the people, if she wants to make this work.

Prudence Romaine falls in love at 16 with Alex Conrad. It just happens to be that he is seventeen years older. Loving the Senator is a fun light sexy read. Alex is older, more controlled and very skilled in the tongue department. We watch their love unfold. This story also has a few twists and surprises.

Alex Conrad

Prudence Romaine

One negative was several typos and poor editing. But other than that it was funny and light. If you want a quick read check it out.

This book was in serious need of a beta reader, or if it had a beta reader, it was in serious need of a better one. I could barely make it past the first chapter. I was so intrigued by the storyline, but coming up with a good idea for a story and actually writing that story are two very different things. The first two sentences made me cringe. There was no development, no build-up, no context. You have to create angst, not just expect readers to develop it themselves. Things were happening in this book that just had no foundation, so they just felt out of place and forced.
This book could have been so much better.

description
This book starts off in a way that other books usually build up towards. On the greatest night in Alex conrad's life- celebrating his election- Prudence makes it very clear she wants him. Things happen and he ask her out on a date.
At this point its too soon to judge the book. Clearly it is quite different than others (which is refreshing) that it doesn't follow the standard story progression. However it definitely takes away that vital angst and attraction build up which is incredibly unfortunate. Nevertheless one doesn't know how the story will go from there so it kept the predictability away.

Now alex comes across as a bit flaky in the early parts of this book, which has its reasons later on but I couldn't understand Prudences love and intensity over this man. Sure they shared some past with both families being friends n him helping her through difficult situations, but still I couldn't wrap my mind around this.
He seemed hot but not sexy. His steamy-ness was more...mild vapour at this stage.
She's incredibly vocal about wanting him and he is quite vocal about it too, which again is not bad but just takes away the intensity of the pull these two have. There was no wondering "would he want me? Does he know my attraction to him? Is he attracted to me" and that again makes the story a lil boring. They admit too early on the "great effect" the other has on them. Its too much too soon. It lacked intensity, nervous butterfly stuttering inducing moments.

Prudence claims to know that Alex is 'the one' but really his only presence in the story thus far is him walking away one when things got hot and heavy, and him walking away the second time at her graduation celebration. To which prudence obviously bawls over.
Its lacking in Belief here. She seems to have a crush not love for this man.

i think what's lacking here is the fact that the author has not made her love and their attraction for one another believable. I don't fancy insta-love but I can tolerate it if its written well and adore it when it is believable.

They're very sexual, which ofcourse is good but that's all they seem to have going...SEX. Every moment one or the other is trying to get laid, I got so bored honest.
Dialogue -mediocre, tolerable. No witty remarks or sarcastic, dirty jokes. Very...standard.
I expected so much from Mia Villano following her posts about Alex and the very sexy images she posted got my hopes up! lol. Sorely disappointing to find the steamy-ness was false.

I was provided a copy of the book by the Author for an honest review.

WOW I just finish reading this book, and let me just say that this is one Hot book, I love it, love the characters, and love how the book turn out to be, I have to say that there where parts where the book got me mad, but I love every single minute of it, now I cant wait to read the next book to see what will happen next, I am gone keep this short since I don't want to give anything away.

The story begging with Prudence, she was the one that manage his campaign, and now they are in the victory party, celebrating that he just became the Senator for the state of Virginia, that was also the night that Prudence will let Alex know how she feels, that night Alex ask her to dance with her, and that's when she told him how she was feeling, but what she was not expecting was for him to feel the same way, after that night, Alex started to push Prudence away, he kept telling her that he couldn't pass from seen the sixteen year old girl that he remember, by this Prudence felt hurt and started dating someone, the night that Alex saw Prudence with someone else that's when he knew that it was enough, that was the night that turn their world up side down.

I love the way how Alex and Prudence are with each other, love how protective he is of her, and their Sex Scene are just Hot, I love it how their is a big difference in their age, and love Alex attitude and the power that Prudence know that she have over him.

I really love and enjoy reading this book, Author Mia Villano THANK YOU for introducing me to this awesome characters and this amazing book love it and cant wait to read more.

So dumb! It just starts off with her wanting to jump the senator. It didn't even let the reader care about there relationship, to "feel" the development of there relationship. For how important supposedly he was to her you'd think she wanted more than just sex. Then the senator was about to fondle her & then all of sudden thought of her as 16? Then all of a sudden because of a sexy dress he can now have sex with her. Then the crude speech seems so unnecessary & to me doesn't fit the senators character. I just so HATED THIS STORY. I couldn't care less about any of these characters. I couldn't even finish this uninteresting love story.

Disappointed. And that's being polite. Read the reviews on Amazon that rave how this is better than Fifty Shades. I can't believe it! This is ONE SHADE and it's BORING. The dialogue is stilted, the sex is canned, and the whole premise is never delivered.I can't believe how ridiculous this tale turns out to be. I wanted to skim but then decided, since the reviews were glowing it would get better. IT DIDN'T! Waste of time. It's the first book I've read in years and felt the need to set the record straight. The characters became annoying and the story was total hype. By the end, I wanted the book to disappear from sight. Removed from Kindle and yes. Returned to Amazon! There, I've had my say.

I am stupid crazy for books about politicians. Everyone wants the billionaire or the MC guy these days but for me I am all about a man in political power. He is the chosen one…he is the most popular guy in the room…and there is a sex appeal and a subtle arrogance knowing that he is the one most revered with a big fat W in his column.

When my partner in crime, BSG, pointed out Loving the Senator, I knew I had to get it. Even if it wasn’t about a sexy politician, the cover itself would caught my attention…a man in a suit with a red tie just screams power! I must admit I read this in a day. The story was fresh, the plot of was captivating, and I really liked the main characters.

Prudence Romaine, our heroine, and Alex Conrad, our Senator, have history. A kind of seedy yet very tender history. When Prudence makes a play for Alex….twice….she is shot down. I mean she goes down in flames and it was painful to read. Mia Villano wrote Prudence’s affections for Alex so honest and real, you couldn’t help but feel her ache. As time goes by and Alex finally comes to terms with his feelings for Prudence, the story starts to really heat up. They are a great couple in and out of the bedroom and as they deal with things from their past and managing a relationship in the public eye, you cannot help but root for this couple.

Loving the Senator is an extremely sexy book. Alex has a filthy mouth but better yet, Prudence is about as sexually confident woman as one could write. I am really loving these new found, aggressive women in books who not only enjoy sex, but aren’t afraid to ask for it. There is very little doubt left in the reader’s mind that these two were made for each other with their equally sexual appetites.

I think Mia Villano did a great job with her debut book. Although this book did not end in a cliffy, there is another book coming out in this series and I am really excited to see what she does with it. The pace of the book and the time frame was well executed and the storytelling and the back story of Prudence’s past was very appealing. You don’t have to love the political arena to fall for this book, but if you like a guy in power, then most definitely snuggle up with Alex Conrad and his dear Prudence.

I hate, and I mean hate giving bad reviews. I usually don't put up a review. But for this books I felt I needed to.

Man I was so excited to read this book, I seen Mia on ever book page pimping this book out and she had amazing teasers. (video is awesome if you get a chance to watch it.) I felt this story was very weak, sex scenes were great, but there needed to be more in the plot, this is where is helps having a few different people to beta read. (there are a ton of people who will beta read for an author just to help our at no cost) I have also noticed a lot of authors working with eachother (sorry maybe not a lot but more the a few) but who better to throw ideas at than an author who can give advice. I have also noticed by just e mailing some authors they will give you tips maybe even rwad your book and post about it. (Helped a friend of mine with her book)

Mia I feel your next book will be stronger if you can find people to give you honest feedback, people who can point you in the right direction or help you find it. An author wrost friend is the 'Yes' Friend the one who agrees to everything, its okay to have someone who will point things out, you need that to see things in different perspective.

Please don't hate me for my bad review... I only did post in hopes you would read this and work on finding Betas or and editor who is willing to point things out. If you have any questions feel free to get ahold of me.

I will be completely honest, I one clicked this book on a total whim!!! And boy did i hit the Jackpot, my favorite program at the minute is the American series, Scandal, and this fit right in with my fan girl hysteria LOL,

Prudence is a character full of tenacity and sass, I love her, I could see alot of myself in her. She strives for what she wants, she takes other people into account but will always look after herself. She is a woman who started out with nothing, worked her way up, knowing what she wanted, had a goal. And kicked the ball in the bac of the net and won!!!!! She has spent the last year working with Alex Conrad who is running for Senator, wins and feels like he is winning Prudence over too. He has loved her for a long time, but has held back.... Until now.

Prudence is not shy in telling Senator Conrad she wants him, and this see's a shift in there relationship from friendship into something more, with a few hurdles they get through alot together and find the only semblance and comfort with each other. There conflicting emotions are put on the back burner and all they want and need is each other.

Prudence has a rough past and she does not want Alex's career tainted by who and what she was when she was younger. This book is young, vibrant, classy sexy as hell and one that you will love, I cannot wait for Book 2, so one thing to say, HURRY UP MIA VILLANO, we need more Alex Conrad.

Good chemistry between Alex and Prudence. Prudence had a crush on Alex since she was sixteen years old. Now a young woman of twenty five she is set to win Alex' s heart. But twice he turns her down and she is broken but moves ahead in life and decides to have a well established life as a lawyer . An unforgettable evening brings Alex crashing into her life. Alex is jealous and he wants her more than ever. He is possessive and loving as well, he supports Prudence in a difficult phase. A dark secret comes to light and Prudence love and trust is shattered . There is still hope for the couple when Alex explains the situation and wants to her love back. Prudence is set to become Mrs Prudence Alex Conrad and will their live survive media ? I hope the second book comes quickly. It was a great book to read and a passionate love story and torrid love making scenes.

Have you wondered how is to fall in love with a high profile politician? To deal with all that means to be a politician’s girlfriend. To feel all eyes on you. Wondering why does he fall in love with you. To listen the critics of the media. Surely it is a world full of craziness.

Prudence will have to learn how to deal with all the craziness that means to be a high profile politician’s girlfriend. She is intelligent and so in love with Alex Conrad (Mr. Senator). But the past they shared will make Alex to really think if he can handle a relationship with a young woman who he considers a girl. Definitely their love story will catch your attention. It’s really spicy and electric all the sexual tension between them. Sometimes you will want to kill Mr. Senator but at the same time you will fall in love with him. Their love could be considered as prohibited due to the difference of their ages but they will enjoy each other.

Some people will try to separate them. Will they succeed?

If you like love stories were the main character is a hot and sexy politician then you will love this book. Also if you love stories were the characters have a big difference in their ages, then you will like Loving the Senator. I’ve read any of Mia Villano’s books and I can say that her writing is amazing. Personally I enjoy relationships were politicians are involved. I studied International Relationships and I know perfectly how the politics world moves. I fall in love with Alex Conrad what are you waiting for, go and grab your copy of this book. Mr. Senator is waiting for you.

Thanks Mia Villano for gifting me an ARC copy of Loving the Senator. I love your books

3.5-4 stars. Overall good premise to the story. It's not just about Prudence, a woman 17 years younger than Alex Conrad, the newly elected Senator's love story. They have a history together and of course there's politics and reputations involved, too. The pace was good, the characters were well-portrayed and there's plenty of chemistry between Prudence and Alex. What didn't work for me was Prudence. On the one hand, I really liked her, she went after what she wanted, she made a success story of herself having grown up in a trailer park and a druggie for a mom, and she proved herself to be a top notch lawyer. She's also very likable as a person and has several close friends and family members who adore her. On the other hand, sometimes she came off a little too desperate and lovesick. I definitely understood that she loved no one besides Alex, but she was always quick to jump on the Alex bandwagon when it was clear that he wanted some distance from her. As for Alex, he was a good guy at heart, he put his life on the line to save Prudence's life a long time ago and when he has a girlfriend, he is committed to that one person only. He made some mistakes that I I couldn't understand the reasoning behind at times but once he was all in with Prudence, he really put his all into it. There's some great hot and steamy scenes and obviously some scandalous rumors, too, so overall, it was entertaining but at times I felt like some of it seemed like a bit of a stretch on Prudence's end and just couldn't fully connect with her.

Despite some early favorable reviews and tempting teasers, I found Prudence and Alex’s romance to be a contrived, awkward and deflated affair that failed to hold my attention.

Alex and Prudence are a hard couple to love. Prudence’s bland and odd personality is passable in comparison to Alex’s glaring shortcomings. The Senator, instead of exuding power, command and raw sexuality, as you might expect and hope for in a fantasized politician, reveals himself to be a weak, conflicted and cowardly man. His likability does moderately increase as the story progresses. However it still isn't enough to forgive or forget his previous missteps. Ultimately, neither Alex nor Prudence are genuinely sensual enough to entice nor appealing enough to fully invest in.

And the sex… The sex is tepid at best. Dogged by poor word choices and phrasing, the racier passages are littered with cringe-inducing and often dated dialog and descriptions that never failed to throw me from the scene.

Pass.

What a fantastic story! Loving the Senator had me hooked from page one and I couldn't wait to finish, speeding through the story, absorbing each and every page. I fell in love with Alex - who wouldn't right? He's powerful, and sexy as hell! The emotion between Alex and Prudence heats up the pages, and I admit, had me fanning myself at times. No spoilers, but I will say, I have a new found appreciation for pearl necklaces. Holy hotness!

The character development in this story is fantastic, and I was thoroughly intrigued with the backstory. There was just the right balance of romance and suspenseful intrigue. The end left me craving more and I anxiously await the continuation of this story. I need more Alex Conrad!

Bravo Mia! Very well done.

This is a 1 person POV love story that has really captured my heart for this journey!! The characters are all amazing in fact more then amazing they are great!!! I was left off on a major huge cliffhanger which royally sucks as now I'm left with a shit load of questions and no answers!! I'm now hoping that another story is on it's way as this one was wickedly awesome on every page. It's one of those stories that no matter what you just can't seem to stop and put down even for a few seconds; it just draws you in hook line and sinker.

Prudence has been in love with Alex since she was 16. Now 9 years later working as his campaign manager the election is over and Alex has made Senator Prudence decides it's the time to tell him how she feels. Alex 18 years her senior has a hard time not seeing her as the 16 year old little girl that he rescued. He does his best to stay away, but the chemistry between the two of them is to strong and finds it impossible to stay away.

It wasn't the Best book out there but it was good. there were some spelling errors and it went a bit fast, can't stand the name prudence too, but a Beatles fan. .. she forgave way to fast and for someone who wanted in his pants so bad she sure got mad when the obvious rumors started. and she forgave him quick too.

Good premise, light reading, but... (sighs) when a character is wet from the beginning you automatically lose me. I can understand that it's erotic and all, but please, why do they always have to think about sex? That makes the characters so one-dimensional.
Another thing, there are several gramatics errors and many sentences that do not make sense (at least to me). And many parts of this book read as if they had been taken from a watppad fanfic and had not been edited.
I'm sorry for the good premise of the book, because it really has a good story to tell, but the writing and development fails a lot.

Let me first start by stating that I personally was unable to form a connection with Prudence. I tried, but it just never happened. I think that my lack of feelings towards her is the main reason I just didn't care for this book. You of course may feel differently, so please keep that in mind while reading my review.

Prudence is around twenty-four/twenty-five years of age. She's in law school, makes good grades and has just helped Senator Alex Conrad win the Virginia Senate position as his campaign manager. Although Alex is seventeen years older than Prudence, she has been in love with him since she was sixteen years old. He was there for her when she needed someone, and she's wanted him ever since. On the night of Alex's Senate win, Prudence decides it's time. She's tired of hiding her feelings from Alex. She's no longer the sixteen year old innocent girl from the wrong side of town. It's doesn't bother Prudence that Alex already has a girlfriend, and since she's no longer working on his campaign, there is no reason to hold back.

After Prudence kisses Alex that night and tells him of her intentions, it's obvious he shares in her desire to be together. But Alex has more to lose. He can't afford a scandal now that he's a Senator. As Prudence pushes, Alex pulls away. And it gets so annoying. Prudence needs to make a trip to the sex store and take care of herself. Seriously! The girl wants to attack Alex at every moment of every day and we hear about it constantly. It was page filler. It was repetitive. It was annoying. I found myself skimming Prudence's inner dialogue and only reading the quoted conversations. And sadly, those were few and far between. We spend so much time in Prudence's head daydreaming about what she wants to do to Alex; have him do to her; and where she wants them to do it, that it's difficult to develop a connection with Alex or any of the other characters. I'm no prude. You can talk sex all day, and I'll listen. It was just overdone here. Their age difference glares at you, but not because it’s wrong. It’s because of how naive and childish Prudence acts. I mean girlfriend, have a little dignity. Alex stops them from going forward on more than one occasion, and Prudence begs. I mean she whines, cries and begs him to stay and give her what she needs. It’s pathetic and embarrassing. In her defense, Alex wanted her too. But how many times are you going to let a man jump start the situation and then leave you high and dry, just to take him back again when he shows up? Sad.

My feelings toward Alex were indifferent. I liked him better that Prudence, but he will not make my top fifty list of book boyfriends by a long shot. He was trying to do what he thought was best for both he and Prudence, and you'll understand his reasons more towards the end.

Thankfully, the tone of the books changes mid-way, and it does get better. There is drama with Prudence and her past. Then there’s drama with Alex’s ex-girlfriend. The press gets involved. Typical stuff you would expect considering the characters.

Overall, this book was just okay to me. I didn’t hate it, but I wont read it again. There are a number of grammatical errors. Neither character really acts their age and some of the chances they took were hard to believe considering his political position. But I guess some politicians don’t care about bad press. It’s told completely from Prudence’s POV and I believe it is a standalone story. Remember, these are my personal thoughts and may differ from yours.

Review originally posted at Ramblings From This Chick

I will admit that I was first drawn to Loving the Senator with its stunning cover. Then the blurb fascinated me and I knew I had to read this book. I have some mixed feelings about this one, but I can honestly say that I couldn't put it down. I think maybe part of it was the forbidden nature of the relationship, but it was also extremely hot. I am really intrigued with where Mia is headed with this series, and I can't wait to read more.

Prudence Romaine has wanted Alex Conrad since he helped her out when she was sixteen. Now seven years later, she has just helped him run a successful campaign to become the Senator of Virginia, all while working and attending law school. Prudence is determined to finally tell him how she feels and stop letting all the obstacles between them stand in the way. With seventeen years of age difference, Alex still has trouble seeing Prudence as the woman she now is and not the young girl he once rescued. But he can't help but feel attracted to her as the connection between them continues to grow. But with him newly elected, the last thing he needs is a scandal. With Alex constantly pushing Prudence away, she begins to wonder if things between them will ever change. However once Alex finally gives in, Prudence quickly realizes that being with the Senator is more complicated than she ever imagined.

I will say I struggled a bit with Alex. On the one hand he was super sexy and he didn't care what others seemed to think. He would go after what he wanted and didn't let others influence how he lived his life. But yet he was constantly questioning things between him and Prudence, and I hated how he pushed her away so many times. He would fight against his feelings even knowing that the connection they had was strong and unlike any he had ever had with anyone else. I also didn't like that he kept things from Prudence and that she had to find them out through others. Prudence was also hard to like at first for me. She was single minded in her determination to win Alex and didn't really give a single thought to her actions. She saw what she wanted and didn't care who or what she had to plow through to get there. It made it hard to like her at first, and it almost seemed as though her intentions were to win him over for the sole reason that she could. But then we get to see her connection to him and that her feelings for him were real and deep, and she really did love him. He was everything to her, and it was really painful for her to constantly be pushed away.

I did think that these two were a great couple once they finally got through all the crap, and I loved that they were so real. They didn't let all the scandals get to them and supported one another through it. Not to mention these two were smoking hot! They really brought the steam, and I loved seeing the tension continue to build until it finally exploded. I really did like this story even with the criticisms I had, and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. This book did not end with a cliffhanger, but it did leave the story open for the next step in Alex and Prudence's life. I am excited to see where Mia Villano goes from here, and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

At around 160 pages, I found Loving the Senator to be a lovely quick book to get through. Of course, there were many parts I wanted to read a few times over – just to make sure I got the full… thrust of the information being imparted by the author. And oh my, I did. Under aged? I would strongly suggest other reading material to start with. This book goes into rather (wonderful) intimate detail and is not for the faint of constitution.

My feelings on this book went up and down more than a yo-yo on speed while reading it. This was mainly due to the main female character Prudence. For being a normally level-headed lawyer, campaign leader Prudence seems to lose her head and become a complete maniac addicted to sex around Alex, not happy to do anything but get into his pants. Not that, I suppose, this is a bad thing – just a little off putting when you’re thrown into such drama straight from the beginning. When you meet Alex though, you start to understand! Prudence is a lot younger than the newly elected Senator, Alex Conrad who she grew up idolising, crushing on and falling in love with many years before. Alex however, who was around the same age as Prudence’s mother, finds it extremely hard to think or Prudence as anything but the girl he rescued and befriended all those years ago. For all his possessiveness for Prudence though, he doesn’t seem to know exactly what he wants. Prudence and Alex have some good friends though to aid them through the current and oncoming drama fortunately.

With as much drama as all good politic-surrounded dramas should have, Loving the Senator certainly doesn’t disappoint in that respect. The book is well written and the characters are crazy, hilariously uproarious, sexy and completely full of life. Between Prudence and Alex, the words ‘tumultuous relationship’ don’t begin to cover it. As much as I adore the West Wing, it doesn’t come quite into the same dramatic sphere as this book!

With old relationships, new relationships, secrets, lies and scandal, will Prudence and Alex’s relationship survive the media? You’ll just have to read it yourself to find out. Overall a great book and I’m very excited to read more in the series.

I enjoyed this book. It was smexy and sweet. We have pasts that help shape someone into a more determined and driven person and one that has them more guarded.

Alex is guarded and driven. He is a gentlemen and torn about his emotions. He doesn’t want to give in because of Prudence’s past and his role in saving her. He wants to keep her from feeling like he likes her because he saved her. He wants to make sure his age doesn’t have a effect and neither does his career. He doesn’t her to feel pressure or feel confused. but Prudence already knows what she wants—she wants him.

Problem with that for me is that she gets so singularly focused on wanting him she doesn’t really focus on life in and of itself. She does good with her career but not life. She gets more selfish in her dealings with others and with her conversations. She lets go of what life can bring to you-enjoyment and fulfillment.

When they get together it is amazeballs and the fit perfectly. He is supportive and kind. For example when her mom is dying he is there for her and supports her in everything she decides. When she goes to the prison to meet with her moms boyfriend he comes to be with her so that she has someone to be there. Gentle in his treatment of her. Along the way bumps occur and they are there for each other. That is until he does something she doesn’t agree with and she misinterprets things and runs. Doesn’t allow explanation just runs. Alex doesn’t allow this for long and he goes gungho after her.

The characters are fun and ones that you can get behind. The love story at times are frustrating with Alex and his waffling at first but once he gets onboard and lets go of his reservations it is smexy and fun and sweet. A love story that will have you smile and wonder what is next as they get ready to embark on a life together.
