He was no longer in exile after Shaul’s death on Mt. Gilboa, but time would not slake his grief for Jonathan. Yet the Hassar’s death bought him time to fulfill his friend’s dream of defeating the Philistines, uniting the tribes, and controlling the trading crossroads of the world. Yahweh did not leave him to struggle toward these goals alone, though, and sent a host of unlikely characters to aid him.
There was an arrogant adon, a thieving scoundrel, a murderous nephew, a child prophet, a power-hungry priest, a shrewd Philistine seren, a selfless king, a merchant slave, and a network of lowly women, scribes, and Habiru. The evil one had his own allies and sought to thwart Yahweh’s plans at every turn, but the Lion of Judah was determined to follow Yahweh at any cost.
His loyalty was rewarded—first Judah and then Israel gave their hearts to him along with their thrones. Yahweh delivered the Philistines and the Moabites into his hands, and Jebus, the impregnable city every king in Canaan craved but dared not attack, was yielded to him by a man who had long known that Yahweh’s chosen one would someday rule an empire from within its gates.
I have never lived more than 30 miles from Lake Michigan. I was born on the east side, grew up on the west side, and now live on the east side again. However, I rarely have time to go there! I attended Andrews University, graduating with a Master's Degree in History in 1986. I am a member of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honors society for History; and a charter member of the Andrews University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, the national interdisciplinary honors society. I began writing for publication in 2000 after seeing the need for books about biblical characters which were not only biblically accurate, but historically and culturally accurate as well. My husband and I have been married for over 30 years and have two children. We have always lived in the same house!
I have slogged through all of this series, more or less enjoyably. The plots are super-duper thick, reminiscent somehow of the multiple characters in the "Dragons in our Midst" series. Now that I have invested this much time, I am disappointed to find the series hasn't concluded with the final, 6th book! I wonder if it ever well. An excellent choice for those really wanting to dig into the historical details of Old Testament life.
I loved the continual growth of David’s character and acknowledgment of his own shortcomings when it comes to listening to God. The final story was a little long and felt like it didn’t add too much to the overall story. Other than that fantastic book with great characters. Hope Book 6 is coming soon.
I've been to visit the City of David in Jerusalem and love all the Terri Fivash books in the Dahveed series. She knows how to bring this historical character to life!
I like the story line but the mistakes in the book are a little distracting for OCD people like me. There are a lot in this book. Also the cover art is getting much worse. But the storyline is still very intricate and amazing!
This latest chapter in Dahveed's story is the most captivating one yet. Dahveed has grown fully unto the man Yahweh intended him to be. Though he is not without faults and doubts. I love Fivash's writing and this is yet another jewel in her crown of accomplishments.
I will always love this series. This book is the 5th in the series and dives deep into politics, war, and much more. So much happens to further David's walk with God and following his lead. Wonderful read, but make sure to read the books in order otherwise, nothing will make sense!
this book was very well written. i saw quite a few Spelling errors. I enjoyed the side story at the end. very helpful. i wish Michael was involved more.
