Matthew “EMCY” Conant is one of the most caring, charismatic and passionate people I have ever met. We are about the same age and our paths were completely different. I built a career in law enforcement while he served hard time in the California prison systems. This book chronicles his tumultuous life behind bars as a “lifer.” There came a point in his life that he accepted Christ into his life and this started a new chapter. Alongside is extraordinary wife, Momo, they began a life of service. I had the privilege of meeting them both (I can’t pinpoint the exact date) but it was as if I had found someone so much like myself but different. I looked past his tattoos and his braided beard to see a man with a heart for serving others.
There was much I didn’t know about my friend, but that doesn’t change how much I respect him. In fact, it makes me even more thankful for our friendship. I won’t lie, it’s pretty cool I got a mention in the book too.
The old adage goes, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” EMCY is the epitome of that statement. I have never met a man more on fire for Jesus and more connected to everyone and everything around him. I highly recommend this book!
