Re-issue of the bestselling cyberpunk novella by A.J. Waters
A fast paced, futuristic, science-fiction action romp. Jack Tatton is a hitman whose world begins to crash around him after a job goes terribly wrong. Now he must go to the gang ridden city of Olympus to find both answers and revenge.
Badass hitman Jack Tatton lands himself in a steaming pile when he takes out the lead singer of a psytrance-punk band.
This was the first book I read by A. J. Waters and I believe it was the author's first sci-fi publication also. In short, and without giving too much away, this is a "blood, guts and guns-oriented" revenge story based in a grotty futuristic world crafted by Waters.
The first thing that hit me about this book was the fact that the author wastes absolutely no time in his story telling. At first I wasn't sure, thinking that perhaps the author had been too hasty with the progression of the story, but I soon realised that this style of story telling -- without extraneous pages of imagery and scene setting -- although perhaps unconventional, is actually very effective. I read the whole book in a matter of a few days, which is very fast by my standards. It kept me coming back for more, and as far as I am concerned, that is a good read.
The only negative thing I can say is that I did spot a few typographical errors, however, these do not ruin the story.
Overall, a very solid start to the Protox series with this fast-paced, futuristic, whisky fueled, gorefest. I will certainly be on the lookout for future titles by A. J. Waters (I have already finished the sequel).
